I read his suggestion, and it makes sense because some of the info he is suggesting to use for claims cannot be faked. Very good suggestions, too.
Nonsense, I would easily have gotten >100 points filing my fake claim. The only thing that stopped me was my conscience.

Where is the money going to come from the other depositors will be missing? This is why I say I see no way around insolvency without the database.
You have deposit and withdrawal amounts that correspond exactly with the emails that they have on hand?
2482  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Emergency ANN] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 25, 2012, 12:42:08 PM
Haha, I knew I would be accused of that.

Have you read through zhoutong’s suggestion? I could have easily done the claim and raked in a few k BTC. I didn’t because it would be theft, but I guarantee you there are enough people here who would get enough "points" to get refunded immediately, lack any morals, and had the foresight to file a fake claim before the db loss was admitted.

I simply see no other way around insolvency.

Intersango/(My)Bitcoin(ica) Consultancy, you guys better offer a nice fat 18.5k BTC bounty for the database or you will likely be sued into insolvency!

There were already plenty of people who suspected a database loss. I was tempted to file a false claim a few days ago myself. Do you really think there is a way for you not to overpay some, and therefore underpay others without the database?

It is an absolute bargain since there is no other way to allocate funds without risking losing MORE funds than deposited. I hope the hacker will accept an initial offer and not abuse his position. I also hope he will not tamper with the database (maybe you can offer him another bounty since people will try to bribe their way in). Is there perhaps a checksum to prove it is the original?

Do it or die.
Are you the hacker looking to double your money? A bargain indeed. Right.

Only person I ignore is that gem dude.
It's easier to just ignore the entire auctions board, but I guess you can't really be doing that since you are a global mod lol.
2485  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Emergency ANN] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 25, 2012, 12:19:38 PM
Per standard practice, Bitcoin Consultancy entered into a non-disclosure agreement which extends to Bitcoinica's proprietary systems and processes. They are free to discuss their role and history with the company.
Thank you for this. We are incredibly happy. We will need to clear up some distinctions and make sure the account is in fact Tihan's account. He can do so via confirmation in email or on skype. We also need clarification as to what "role and history mean".
Heh, it would be kind of ironic if someone was actually running a sock donator account under his name. At least you are covering that angle to be sure it is him.
2486  Other / Off-topic / Re: Anyone else get this malware email? on: May 25, 2012, 03:54:22 AM
Truth be told, I ran it on my offline virtual machine, and I have no freaking Idea what it does.
Run it in a VM with Sandboxie, with logging enabled. The Sandboxie logs will tell you all the files and registry objects that the programs touches, whether in a read or a write operation.
2487  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Emergency ANN] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 25, 2012, 03:41:06 AM
the plot thickens.  Shocked

Will somebody just admit whether there is a backup of the user database or not?

Man up zhou.

There is NO BACKUP. Think about this: PASSWORDS WERE SALTED. There was NO NEED for a claim form. They could have let the users simply login into their account to authenticate.

Not to mention those users using google authenticator.

The form is there because there is jack shit in terms of data.

If this is the case, I blame zhou for that. A 17-year old boy with zero contingency plans, twice demonstrated (shame on me). (and furthermore, I will never use his new domain manager service or any other).

How does he suppose to process claims without a user database backup is my only lingering question?

genjix and zhou: get a room. you belong together.

MagicalTux handled his shit last year, because he was a twenty-five year old man. Long-live MtGox.
I think you are a little bit confused.

Your passports are in my private repository (AES-256 encrypted), and the previous API access key was revoked. I'm the only person with access to such information now. Patrick et al. can request for the repository once they need it, but currently they don't.

Zhou Tong's hands are tied, because he no longer has access to the systems - as far as I can tell from what he has posted. He has also offered to take over the claims process and make everything right, but that was also rejected. Attacking him and his reputation isn't the way to proceed here.

Why isn't Matthew trying to stop me or, at the very least, cheer me on?
When does he wake up?

Is that a song you just wrote?

File ends in .xls.scr.xls. .scr is the same as .exe, used in screensavers but can do anything that a standard executable can do.

A screensaver miner maybe?

LOL well you are welcome to risk your wallet to find out. Grin Don't say you weren't warned. Kiss

I dunno about redundant, but they are Mean Well PSUs, which are some of the best in the industry. You can see the MW logo in the pics.

Those kind of modules (lots of manufs make them) are typically used in either redundant PSU housings hold 2 to 4 modules, or people use them with custom wiring harnesses if they have specific wiring requirements.
I was totally going to use them in my rig, but they are damn expensive. http://www.meanwell.com/search/rsp-3000/rsp-3000-spec.pdf
Nice lugs for attaching bus bars to.

Look at yohan's solution from a reputable UK company. Not a scam but 100% professional and not BS like BFL with all the delays ... they are a joke.

You mean the thread on this forum where they're selling cards a month and a half back-ordered for MORE than a BFL with no performance numbers as of yet? Yep, that sounds promising...
You forgot the part where they are using proven parts that are already in use in other designs, and the part where they are a reputable company that actually has been around for 10 years or more, unlike BFL.

randoms from #c++ IRC, people from this forum, beginners I was teaching .etc
Well that kind of does narrow it down, at least a tiny bit, no? Have you any guesses as to the identity of this pasty little twerp that was unoriginal enough to commit this crime?

I dunno, I'm guessing the Achilles heel?

Re. having shares on GLBSE, I find their "captcha" intolerable. Can sometimes go 50 attempts without success in logging on. And customer service is nil - there was no response to my e-mails about the captcha
I haven't had issues with it, but some have mentioned that you may need to wait a few seconds after entering it before clicking the button to continue. No idea why.

2498  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What to call 0.001 BTC? (5 BTC Bounty) on: May 25, 2012, 12:57:38 AM
What modifications would work and keep the "common" numerical prefixes? How about a different suffix? Perhaps a -bits suffix would sound less "baby talk".
Sure - kibits, mibits, mubits, etc. I like that.

Also, the greek "μ" isn't pronounced "myu", it's more like "mu".

I have a backup from before you locked me out.

I don't have any recent backups, since I no longer have access to the database server.

User balances have changed since my last backup.

Who currently has control of the site?  If you put me in touch with them, I can tell them how to get me the information I need to pay people back.

Hi Chris

Please use the data base you have as i have been advised the current database has been erased this happened last week.

Andre
This stuff doesn't "just happen". I would recommend you be a bit more up front and honest about what the fuck is going on. Were you hacked? Is someone forcing you to withhold information? You have stated that you can no longer retain lawyers because they are costing too much, so I assume now that you may speak freely. If not, I think it would be a good idea to out the puppetmaster that is screwing you over as well as everyone else.
