361  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers to be banned on: December 01, 2023, 08:24:04 PM
Keep in mind that this is not just about services that are called "xyzmixer" but also sites that are "not primarily a mixer but has a mixer function". This puts a lot of burden on the user having to know if some site they link to or mention might have a mixer function.

I am no lawyer, but I think that message is just to show compliance and to free theymos/the forum from any liabilities related to mentioning mixers here, but he clearly stated

Quote
It will continue to be OK to discuss mixers in a general sort of way. Just don't direct people to mixers: don't link to a mixer, don't link to a directory with links to mixers, don't tell people to "Google ASDFmixer", don't link to a mixer's telegram, etc.

Reading the "Google ASDFmixer" in contexts gives a clear comprehension of the intent, there is a huge difference between replying to someone who is asking "What mixer should I use" and then you reply with "Google ASDFmixer" and another post where people discuss, the risks of using mixers and you say something like " Bad things could happen, be careful, Google ASDFmixer", the former is an obvious violation, the latter is probably not.

362  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Eligius pool is back under the new name Ocean on: December 01, 2023, 08:00:16 PM
Surely plenty of miners would probably be on board in creating block templates that would not include Ordinal transactions.

Ya, good luck finding miners who would leave money on the table.

So, still custodial if you don't have 0.2% of the pool hashrate, so ~350TH/s right now.

It is still custodial no matter what, the custodianship only ends when you receive your payouts to your wallet, and it starts again right after the first hash you submit, so the pool will always be custodial of something, be it your hashrate or the actually sats.

Currently, the pool would find a single block every 12 days, so in terms of custodianship, it's worse than all PPS pools, and it doesn't matter how much hashrate it gets, any PPS pool could outpace it in that regard, a PPS pool could start paying out every time they find a block or even every hour for that matter. so what gives?

You would expect that these devs would have created a truly decentralized mining pool, but no, just make another ordinary pool as if more pools will solve the problem, what happens when Luke gets a warning from the authorities and is forced to censor certain transactions, is he going to fight the government over it? creating a single point of failure is not going to solve censorship.

363  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers to be banned on: December 01, 2023, 07:08:19 PM
Well, it is what it is. What strikes me as very odd is the severity of the ban. It sounds like we can't mention any mixer names even in casual/news/discussion context. Like if next year I wanted to say that some xyzmixer is sketchy AF and should be avoided, looks like I can be banned under the new rules.

I doubt it will be this much; warning about using x mixer isn't exactly the same as "pointing someone" to use it.

But I agree, this feels like it has gone too far, but at the same time, I understand that theymos wants the forum to be legally protected, and how is he going to show compliance without imposing such rules? This way he could just tell law enforcement, "See, I have done everything I can to ban the illegal services," anything short of that could be viewed by law enforcement as "lack of compliance," an excuse to attack the forum.

I think that the crypto community is near the start of a multi-year squeezing campaign against mixers

Well, I think we are already in such a campaign against everything "freedom": banning mixers on this forum, large pools imposing KYC, and some of them started practicing transaction censorship.

I can't blame theymos just as much as I can't blame some of those pools and exchanges who have no option but to comply with the governments. I think we as a community failed big time.

14 years have passed, and we have not built anything truly decentralized

- No decentralized forum/community platform
- No truly decentralized exchange
- No truly decentralized mining pool
- No truly decentralized mixer

Too much power/responsibility is put in the hands of a few, creating terrible single points of failure. It's only a matter of time before they start banning everything that contributes to users' privacy/anonymity on the blockchain. We need to start looking for alternatives to everything we use today, something truly decentralized by ownership.

شكرا للاخ هيوج على المنشن فقد فاتني الموضوع.

على العموم ولكي لا اطيل, حاليا يوجد حوضي تعدين تبث عليهم فلترة التحويلات لاغراض سياسية وهم
Mara

365  Economy / Services / Re: Amazon Orders required on: November 30, 2023, 08:56:51 PM
In what wonderful world would someone give you a "discount" to do you a favour? What are we earning to help you? 10% commission?  Grin

Well, actually, Bitcoin is worth a lot more than amazon gift cards, plus, buying Bitcoin is hardly 1:1, in most countries it costs some fee to convert your fiat to btc, and then you get the privacy aspect of transferring your fiat to btc without using an exchange.

So websites like Purse.io or Bitoff are real and legit, you place an amazon order, chose your desired discount and someone else picks it up, it is very common to get 5-10% discount orders accepted on the same day, 10-20% discount might take a while.

It is safer for OP and those who want to trade their amazon for BTC to use the websites mentioned above.

Ya like for real, is it even possible for a minimum of 500MW worth of gears to go online in a few days? I just can't buy into this theory, there must be something else that we do not know, we will probably never get to understand what "was actually happening".

I think, however, it is almost certain that we can't sustain this for too long, whatever game there is, will have to come to an end.

368  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Eligius pool is back under the new name Ocean on: November 29, 2023, 09:48:19 PM
One question I'm interested in asking, given Mr Luke's thoughts on Ordinals, will this pool mine BRC-20 and Ordinal NFT transactions in its blocks?

Any rational pool would mine any thing marked as valid by the code that most other nodes operate, it does not matter what there inside, as long as it is valid and pays more -- should be in.

Any pool that does not do that will lose many miners, either for paying less than average or for censorship.
369  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Rate the safety of this mining setup on: November 29, 2023, 07:28:06 PM
miners are too close to each

This is not an issue, in fact, if you check many miners have a rail on the sides so you can attach them to each other, the only miner that is designed to dissipate some heat from the body/chassis  is whatsminer, those need a bit of spacing, the rest can be placed next to one another with zero spacing.
370  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Rate the safety of this mining setup on: November 29, 2023, 12:53:07 PM
the wooden shelving is not good

Well, this is only a precaution post-catastrophe , the materials around will only dictate how large the fire is going to be, but using wood shelves in it self is not a reason for starting fire.

I have build, managed various sizes of mining farms, from 2 small D3s running in the next room all the way to over 10ph of S9s and MicroBT, and I can tell you for sure that the main cause for 99% is electric based.

1- Bad sizing of anything electric (easy to check and fix)
2- loose contact (the most common and is very tricky to spot)

Those 6pin connectors or the C13/C19 or anything that "clicks tight" cause most of the fireworks I saw, people keep plugging and unpluging those cords/pins not realizing that everytime you do so you affect the ability of the connections to click tight into one another, and whenever there is a loose connection -- fire is invited to the house.

I always advice people to either use an MCB to directly shut the power or use a PDU that comes with breakers so you do not have to unplug the power cords, if you can't lift the whole PSU by just lifting the cable then it is not tight, i see power cords that would fall if you touch them by accident, those are a recipe for disaster.
371  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Eligius pool is back under the new name Ocean on: November 28, 2023, 09:38:31 PM
I had a look at the pool, I found some interesting claims, such as

Quote
Today, pools operate like custodial bank accounts and have the ability to decide who can and who can't use Bitcoin

Isn't this how mining pools have always been from the get-go? what has changed? why does Luke think it's a recent development of some kind? in fact, before the Chinese government banned mining, 2-3 Chinese entities or perhaps people had well over 50% of the hashrate, furthermore, at that point, not only were mining pools centralized  -- the physical location of the hashrate origin was pretty damn centralized (which is still the case now, except it moved from China to the U.S).

Quote
As for censorship, it is no longer a matter of actual resistance but merely if and when the pools choose to do it there are 11 entities who decide what transactions go in (or stay out) of almost every block, and simply the 2 largest can impose censorship on everyone else with 100% success.

The first part is correct, although I doubt that at any point in the past, we had anything more than 11 large pools, however, the second part, 2 largest can't have 100% success in censorship, the two largest pools today own 55% of the hashrate, to make it easier to understand, let's just say the mine half the blocks out there, and thus their censorship success rate would be 0%, on average, every other block is found by someone else (not antpool and foundry), so there is always a 50% that you may need to wait for the 2 blocks to get 1 confirmation.

Obviously, it gets worse the more these two grow, even worse if they take in the 3rd largest pool with them, so ya, more pools will always help, however, I just dislike the sales pitch.

Now back to the pool itself, I see that this pool is not PPS, and thus, I don't see it going anywhere far, I sure can't be teaching someone Luke about Bitcoin mining history, but history shows that anything non-PPS is very likely to fail.

five percent is over 23eh even if all s21s it is 115,000 units  math check needed as I am a bit tired.

Yup, more like 24eh actually, but ya, let's say 23eh, that is 24000000th / 200th (S21 hashrate), then your math checks out, if we are talking power consumption, those are over 400MW, not counting cooling and whatnot, I find it hard to believe that 400MW came online in 2 weeks out of nowhere,  the numbers don't seem to add up. Undecided

1- please use code tag to insert any sort of logs

Code:
start Example of logs

End

2- what you posted shows nothing wrong, you need to export logs from Whatsminer tools, it has all the details needed to troubleshoot the miner.

Furthermore, at the button of the status page, any errors will be displayed you just get the error number and then google it to find out what it says.

And most importantly, some of them take up to 45 mins to tune, so give them at least an hour, if you reboot them mid way they will start over.

Peace only happens if all parties stay civil.

Essentially; peace is the end of the war.

Quote
We make war that we may live in peace
Aristotle: an Ancient Greek philosopher and polymath

In fact, many philosophers believe that war is the road to peace and that peace can't exist without a war, and that makes a lot of sense because without war -- peace means nothing, just like death means nothing without life.

Of course, war doesn't have to be  "a state of armed conflict", it could be "an active hostility or contention".

Hopefully, the end result of this war would be long-term peace. We, the Bitcoin community have a more important war to fight against monetary hegemony, the more peace we have among us -- the better we can fight it.
375  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Seeking Advice on Best Firmware for Whatsminer Models on: November 27, 2023, 01:14:27 AM
Firmware Versions: Which firmware versions have you found most effective for models like M3x, M5x, or the M30 series?

Stock firmware works great, it's free and probably does everything else you expect to find in custom firmware.

Quote
Overclocking: For those who have tried overclocking with custom firmware, what has been your experience in terms of benefits and risks?

You could perform overclocking using the stock firmware.

Unlike Bitmain's stock firmware, Whatminer's firmware is features-rich, you can do plenty of things with it, besides your normal low, normal, and high modes, and you could actually set a certain power limit for the miner to use, this feature is available on M30 and higher (M20 and below only has the average 3 mining modes).

Even if you want to go with immersion cooling, you could use the dedicated firmware for that reason, which they will provide for free.
376  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Where to fix your Asic miners. on: November 27, 2023, 12:58:14 AM
Alpha Asic is still here DBA as Dalton Asic Repair.

Is it Alpha Asic or Dalton Asic Repair, I take it that Alpha Miner sued you for using their name? or was it a friendly change you decided to take to avoid trouble?

Quote
Remember back in 2021 when you said I was a scam.

hmm, any quotes for me saying you were a scam?

All that I remember is that back in 2011 your website had a claim that says

Quote
We offer dedicated repair technicians with over 10 years of mining and repair experience.

So you claim to have been fixing mining gears before 2011 (long before anybody made a public ASIC miner IIRC) and nobody was there to vouch for you, and I simply stated

Quote
These are serious claims that need serious proof, I can't possibly add your service to the list with little to no information that I know about you, can anyone vouch for you? if not from this forum, have you done any deals with known people on major telegram mining groups? as it stands right now, you don't seem to be trustworthy, given the number of scams you should understand why everyone here would be skeptical.

At that point, you failed to provide any evidence of trustworthiness, and thus adding you to the list would have been a great risk, furthermore, there was and (still is) another company called Alpha Miner, I contacted them and that company said they don't know you, and have nothing to do with you so that added more reasons not to trust you, I try to maintain a "safe list" and I do my best to judge repair centers at the time they request an addition, sadly, I have no crystal ball, so back in 2021 I couldn't see what would you become 2 years in the future.

So do you really think I was wrong/unfair for not trusting you 2 years ago? I would hope for an honest answer.

Quote
Wink Since then my team has slayed in repairs and even got a site up to 99.47 up time for a local 10mw site.

Thats great news.

378  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is 1miau fit for DT? on: November 26, 2023, 07:47:58 PM
I'm willing to find a constructive solution for our German section
The solution is simple, stop acting like the German board police, because you are not, learn to accept that people have the right to disagree with you, agree to disagree and do not use the trust system against your fellow German members.

Also, it is not within your roles or rights to enforce forum rules, only the mods can decide what "shit posts" are to be deleted, all you can do is report them , and if they are still there, just live with the fact that the mods simply do not agree with your judgment, why is that so difficult?
379  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is 1miau fit for DT? on: November 25, 2023, 02:44:01 AM
To find a suitable solution, I’m also willing to review all of my trust feedbacks in question.

That is a great start 1miau, see, sometimes winning against yourself is worth more than winning against many, it takes courage to admit that somethings we do are just, simply put "mistakes" that need to corrected.

I know for a fact that you will be very mad if someone from DT left you a feedback that says "Pro NATO, shitposter, low value" , i want you to imagine 3-4 similar feedbacks on your great 1miau profile, they don't look pretty, do they? So if you can't accept them for yourself -- don't impose them on others.

Quote
These are my voluntary, private giveaways

Technically, you violated a contract with the participants, you pledged to give prizes to the winners, and thus, people participated for that reason, any participant on one of the 4 contests you canceled can technically issue a flag type 3 against you for violating a contract, myself being one of them won't do it because you nicely invited me back then when we were "good friends" long before you read my comments in P&S -- although now that I think about it, I think I was never your friend, I was just another "well established" member that you used to increase your power on forum, your lobbying skills are indeed top-notch to say the least.
380  Economy / Reputation / Re: Should Ratimov be in DT1? on: November 24, 2023, 09:22:31 PM
I can see why participants wouldn't want to raise the flag here

You could even argue that a flag type 3 is warranted but only if raised by a participant, I mean, if I was told that if I participate and do a,b,c I could win some x prize, and after that you decide that you no longer want to give me my potential prize,  you have certainly violated a contract.

Such actions should be frowned upon, or else, someone can start a thread saying they will give away 10 btc for the winner, gets a ton of merit for being generous to the community, and then a few weeks before payment time, they pull the plug.
