361  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Forum moderation policy on: December 31, 2023, 09:45:33 PM
~

You make some fair points about netiquette that people should try to follow on forums.  But we also wanna let folks speak freely here as much as we can.  This place aims to give members room to share views openly and debate stuff.  Sure we got some basics in place - cant have anyone harassing others.

We need to strike the right balance between keeping things respectful but not feeling too strict neither.  People should feel welcome to say their piece, even forcefully, so long as they dont get personal or nasty.  Some arguments gonna happen but we trust members to police themselves mostly.  If things go over the line, mods can step in.
362  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC unconfirmed transactions exceed 500k on mempool on: December 31, 2023, 09:00:59 PM
I think this post is a perfect fit for the "Mempool Observer Topic".

We have talked about congested transactions and high Bitcoin fees a lot lately, so no need for another thread and to rehash everything all over again.
363  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Cheers: Celebrating the Start of 2024 with Crypto Hopes on: December 31, 2023, 08:34:41 PM
Happy New Year, Bitcointalk community!

Im feeling hopeful about crypto this year.  I know the markets been rocky and all, but I just got this feeling that this is gonna be our year. Like maybe Bitcoin will finally hit that 100k mark.  Or maybe those altcoins we have been hodling will moon.  Cheesy Heck, maybe 2024 will take crypto fully mainstream.  Who knows! But Im excited to take the ride with you all and see what happens.

Thats what its all about! So cheers my friends - heres to a year filled with crazy gains, innovative new projects and a whole lot more green candles lighting up them charts! 🥂📈🚀
364  Economy / Reputation / Re: What is the Different Between 1XBet and 1XBit? on: December 30, 2023, 10:58:28 PM
We don't have an ANN thread for 1xbet, do we ?
I had tried to find out the announcement thread of 1bet but I failed to find out the announcement thread of 1xbet. I have seen a lot of people think both 1xbit and 1xbet are the same site. Though 1xbit has an announcement thread they have never told that they are on the same site.

It seems like the only announcement on the forum was this one: 1XBet - Best odds, free streaming, livebetting ..., and I do not know if it was from an official representative or someone who was just trying to get referrals.

However, there have been many scam accusations against this company since 2017.

I believe that a 1xbit representative has confirmed on several occasions that they are related and that they use the same support department and staff.
365  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Am I Too Broke To Own Bitcoin? on: December 30, 2023, 10:36:44 PM
In practice, I barely earn more than $3000 from my job, my wife's mortgage, and other demands waiting to snap up the money. Sometimes I sell in a bull market, and other times I sell in a bear market. Would you say that holding BTC isn't for everyone? Am I not too broke to depend on Bitcoin for financial freedom? Yeah, I'm working for my financial independence, but Bitcoin has remained a peripheral component of that plan. Only if I can HODL for a few years.

Do you comfortably HODL? 300% is quite a lot. 1000% for me is a dream.

I hear you, bud.  Making ends meet on $3k a month aint easy.  Grin But hey, no shame if you cannot spare more than a few hundred bucks here and there for Bitcoin.

However, I still think Bitcoin could pay off big time down the road.  So even tossing a tiny bit at it whenever you can might work out.  They call it dollar cost averaging (DCSing).  Instead of trying to time the dips and peaks and all that noise, you just put in the same small amount on the regular.  Over time it averages out your buy-in price.  Reduces the risk too.

But to answer your question, yes I do HODL comfortably. Mainly because I only invest the amount I can live without. If you think you will need that money for some basic needs in a few months or sooner, then dont invest. No one claims that investing is for everyone.
366  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Online or offline gambling which is more safer? on: December 30, 2023, 09:23:36 PM
Online and offline gambling both come with risks of overspending.

With online gambling, having your bank account or crypto wallet at your fingertips makes it tempting to deposit more funds after losses pile up and  it can spiral quickly into recklessly chasing winnings that never seem to come.  Financial strain creeps up before you know it.

But offline gambling has its own traps too.  Even without technology enabling your bad habits, a flashy casino atmosphere clouds judgment.  Carrying spare cash or cards on you leads to brash bets, regardless of best intentions walking through the doors.

The bottom line - neither format will necessarily protect you from yourself in the heat of the moment.  It is wise to set firm limits beforehand online and off.  And stick to them, no matter how enticing the what if appears at the time.
367  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers to be banned on: December 30, 2023, 08:35:42 PM
would love to see a response to this, reading the OP, wassabiwallet.io feels like it would be considered a mixer based on what was written on the "definition of a mixer", I would like to read a clarification on this.

Read the OP again:

Examples of things that are not banned mixers include exchangers (unless they have a mixing function), CoinJoin-supporting non-custodial wallets, and Monero.

As I see it, Wasabi Wallet fits the description of "CoinJoin-supporting non-custodial wallet" perfectly.

Wasabi is an open-source, non-custodial, privacy-focused Bitcoin wallet for desktop, that implements trustless coinjoin over the Tor anonymity network.
368  Other / Meta / Re: We are going to miss the Mixer Campaign in Bitcointalk forum on: December 30, 2023, 08:27:30 PM
I am not sure what the purpose of this new thread is, OP.
There are already two other threads on this board discussing mixer promotion: 'Mixers to be banned' and 'Bitcointalk mixer ban, Altcointalk is active in that scope'. I did not see your posts in either of those threads. Why create a new one?
369  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Not everyone deserves to hear of your winning in gambling. on: December 29, 2023, 10:02:14 PM
We all need to take responsibility for the choices we make.  And yeah, hearing stories of folks winning big at the casino or whatever can be inspirational for some people, but it can also be rough for others battling addiction issues.  However, I do not think it is on us to police what motivates people. Like how is that our responsibility?
370  Economy / Economics / Re: If Banks make money out of loans then they should reward those who borrow on: December 29, 2023, 09:51:47 PM
Yes If money doesn't existing without someone borrowing this then each person who i use credit or debt Will be rewarded by Banks.
My friend is full debt with mortgage but i told Him to not worry you are just victim of bank and financial system you are not only one.
I Understood allready that we Are all just victims of scam and that's ITS not If but when people will just say banks we don't need you If we don't get rewards.
~

Stop bullshitting.  We get that banks profit by lending money, but that dont automatically make everyone using loans or credit some kinda victim.  Borrowing can be pretty smart if you need to buy something big or invest in stuff, as long as you are responsible and make the payments on time.

your buddy's got a mortgage to pay for his house.  Thats super common - mortgages tend to be long-term with interest lower than other loans.  Makes them relatively affordable for major purchases like a house.  If your friend keeps making those mortgage payments on schedule, eventually he will own the place.  And that can be a solid investment - he gets a roof over his head now, and later on he can sell the house for a chunk of change if he wants.

Instead of criticizing the financial system, why dont you offer some constructive solutions? How else do you suggest that young people who are starting in life build wealth and achieve their financial goals?
371  Other / Meta / Re: Why is this forum on SMF? on: December 29, 2023, 08:55:08 PM
~
Are there some special benefits of SMF over other popular forum softwares like xenforo or vbulletin?

According to Wikipedia, the first public beta release of XenForo was released in October 2010, with a stable version released in March 2011. As far as I know, this forum is older than that. And as for vBulletin, it is proprietary software, not open-source.
372  Other / Meta / Re: What new changes would you like to see on Bitcointalk in 2024 ? on: December 29, 2023, 08:06:05 PM
I got some ideas for changes I wanna see happen on Bitcointalk.  First off, theres way too much spam and scams all over the place there and  it is super annoying trying to find real info or talk to people when theres all these fake bots and whatnot interfering.  We gotta get some better filters to block that junk.

Also, searching for stuff here pretty much sucks.  The search engine we got now barely works half the time.  Upgrade to something more powerful thatll index everything people post.  That wouldd help big time when trying to find old threads about stuff.

Oh and it should be easier to use on phones and tablets! The site looks janky on mobile.  I end up pinchin and zooming like crazy trying to click buttons and links.  Optimize it to work good on smaller screens.

They could also step up the community features.  Let us like or share good posts we find.  Get people more engaged.  Maybe even add some blockchain voting and identity checks.  Thatll secure things and give more control to real users.

Anyway those changes would really improve Bitcointalk in my opinion.  Make it less shady and annoying to use.
373  Other / Meta / Re: Second chances on: December 29, 2023, 07:51:14 PM
Could it be because they did not want their current accounts to be associated with the banned account or is there something else behind it?

Perhaps they do not have alt accounts but read the forum as guests?  Smiley

But to be serious, it is logical that they do not want to expose their current account, given that they are most likely ban evading all this time.
374  Economy / Speculation / Re: HODLers, When Will You Sell? on: December 28, 2023, 09:43:01 PM
All Bitcoin HODLers seem to have a price target in mind for when they will cash out and take profits.  Cant blame them - we all like making money.  But the data shows that long-term holding is the winning Bitcoin strategy over time. and  Whys that? Well, Bitcoin keeps chugging along, gaining more adoption and going up in value the longer it is around.

Sure, traders try timing the volatile crypto market's ups and downs to turn quick profits.  Nothing wrong with taking some gains here and there.  But those who have stubbornly held their Bitcoin for years keep winning out big time.
375  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: about GPG signature on: December 28, 2023, 09:12:04 PM
you mean that we can verify the electrum.exe file i thought what we can verify is the signature file .gz.asc since in this case the hacker can keep the original

Even the smallest change to the exe file will invalidate the signature, and the archive (tar.gz) will also be affected. This is because the signature is specific to the entire file you download from the server, including the archive. If the exe file (or archive) has been modified, the signature verification will fail.

GPG signatures are a proof that distributed files have been signed by the owner of the signing key. For example, if this website was compromised and the original Electrum files had been replaced, signature verification would fail, because the attacker would not be able to create valid signatures. (Note that an attacker would be able to create valid hashes, this is why we do not publish hashes of our binaries here, it does not bring any security).

376  Economy / Economics / Re: Why must you used such money to purchased a car? on: December 28, 2023, 07:51:10 PM
The boy parents are very rich and the boy parents want the boy to become a good person in the future that made them to asked the  boy what did him want for them to buy as a gift, but the boy mentioned Rolls Royce that worth $28 millions despite the advice I gave to him to collect the money and use it to establish a business but he ignore my advice.

Now you're just bullshitting. Seconds ago you said that you don't know if your friend's parents or older brothers bought the car, and now you claim that his father asked him what he wanted to buy him because they wanted him to be a good person. None of what you say makes any sense and you just want to increase your post count. You need to stop doing that...

If you have such mind to your friend show that you are a bad friend because, a time will come when that your wealthy friend will know that you are after his money not a genuine friendship with him or her.

Apparently you're not such a good friend either. You ended your friendship because you didn't accept his decisions, and because he acted against your suggestions. Those are not the characteristics of a good friend.
377  Economy / Economics / Re: Why must you used such money to purchased a car? on: December 27, 2023, 10:25:53 PM

What I did is it good or bad so that I will know how to apologize to him to continue the friendship with him.

What you did is really stupid.  While trying to help your friend make a good financial decision, you went overboard by ending your friendship when he did not follow your suggestion.  He is an adult who can make his own choices, even if you disagree.  You should apologize for overreacting and  your friendship matters more than being right.  You should explain you were wrong to cut ties, say you cherish having him in your life and ask if he can put this behind you two.

That would be my advice if this were a true story, but since this is a complete fabrication, it doesnt really matter what you do. Maybe try to cut back on the drugs you use or something.  Wink
378  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ELI5 - Transaction Fees on: December 27, 2023, 09:42:04 PM
Can someone give me a BRIEF, SIMPLE explanation of how fees work?  How are they calculated?

Good question.  Its kinda complicated, with a few things that matter:

First up is how big the transaction is and, if it requires more space in the block, so miners want a bigger tip.

Theres also how fast you wanna move your coins.  You in a hurry? You can pay extra so the miners push your payment to the front of the line.  Gets it in the next block coming up.

And heres the tricky one - how congested the whole network is.  More folks moving coins at once fees climb up.  Miners get flooded and can take the highest bidders.

So no crystal ball for future fees.  Too many moving pieces.  Network traffic jams are hard to predict.  But those are the basics - size, speed, congestion.  Thats the recipe behind transaction fees.
379  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin POW to POS the key? on: December 27, 2023, 08:52:27 PM
I agree. The actual miners running the proof-of-work hardware dont get to pick which transactions get processed.  They just do the number crunching assigned by the network. Switching over to proof-of-stake wont inherently fix the problem of junk transactions overloaded the system.  The real solution has little to do with how we handle the mining.  Its more about closing the exploits, limiting who can publish transactions and potentially rearchitecting how transactions get prioritized and processed.
380  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I don’t think bitcoin is now decentralized on: December 23, 2023, 08:13:03 PM
Yes it is my post, but it was deleted and no notification  at all .

I cost 20 mins to post ,but be deleted, so what kind of the forum , it is ?

Your post was not individually deleted, but the entire thread was trashed.  You wont get a notice when stuff like that happens.

When you see suspicious posts like that, and  that one was clearly spam, it is best not to engage and instead report them to let the mods handle it and  we try to keep things positive here, so next time maybe take a second look before jumping in or just move on to more constructive discussions.

Also, if you continue with spreading misinformation and spamming, sooner or later you will be banned from further participation in this forum.
