361  Other / Serious discussion / Is the human race getting more knowledgeable but losing wisdom ? on: July 19, 2019, 01:39:12 AM
Is the sheer amount of information that we are bombarded with actually dumbing us down or making us less decisive?

Everyone has heard the popular sayings:

A wise man never knows all. A fool knows everything.
Don't argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

It is really just a phrase relating to the the Dunning-Kruger effect

The Dunning-Kruger effect is the inability for someone to understand their own incompetence.

As the world is getting more complex in the industrial revolution I wonder whether knowledge is increasing but wisdom is decreasing.

While we understand more of what is happening around us - medical knowledge, technology and science knowledge has all improved.

But it is the application of that knowledge that has me worried.

We are polluting the planet more than ever and our population is ever increasing.

While medical knowledge and skill has increased people are increasingly falling for pseudo scientific quackery and outright scams.

Blockchain technology and crypto have the ability to improve everyones lives.

But the majority of the "noise" on the forum appears to be hype, scams and poor quality ICOs with a lot of users that know very little about the technology they are using and are vulnerable to re-invented old scams.

While "official" crime statistics show no dramatic increase - it is only because people are no longer reporting certain crimes. If I look at my email inboxes I receive numerous daily attempts to scam and weekly scam calls on my phone.

People got away from slavery and serfdom. Yet now the gap between the rich and the poor is increasing again.

People fought for privacy and personal freedom and are now giving it away for free on social media.

Are we as a population becoming less wise while simultaneously being bombarded with more information. ?

You're thinkin' 'bout that other guy ...

Is that CSW between two trucks ?

According to Wizzsec Chuck Norris has a competitor.

You cannot delete it but you can withdraw it.

Flags can also expire:

There is some evidence of multiple DPRs

https://freeross.org/proof-of-multiple-dprs/
https://reason.com/2016/12/01/a-dread-pirate-roberts-was-using-a-silk/

The DPR account was used after Ulbricht was arrested.
Someone logged into the DPR account on Silk Road's forum on November 18, 2013.
Ulbricht had been in jail since Oct 1.

There were also some theories who the other DPR was.

365  Other / Off-topic / Re: Silk road and Bitcointalk. How it played a role in its rise and fall. on: July 18, 2019, 05:48:21 AM
Craig Wright accused Martti Malmi and Theymos in open court to be the masterminds behind Silk Road.
Accusations made in a courtroom are covered by absolute privilege and cannot be used for defamation proceedings.

Martti replied:

Quote
Apparently CSW has claimed in court that I cofounded Silk Road and worked "to allow assassination markets". For the record: that is obviously a made up accusation.

Some had their own theories:

Others offered to help:

Source: https://twitter.com/marttimalmi/status/1147835230096674816

Theymos replied:

Again, it would be great to know if Wright's statements had truth behind them or not:

Of course not, do you really need to ask?

 - I was made a forum admin in 2011, after Satoshi left. (Silk Road also appeared after Satoshi left.) I didn't have any special access to bitcoin.org until around 2013, and in fact I didn't even have any access to the bitcointalk.org DNS until 2013.
 - I've never bought or sold anything on Silk Road, Hydra or similar sites; nor did I have anything whatsoever to do with their operation; nor AFAIK did I even have interactions with anyone involved in running these sites. While I am opposed to drug laws, I have never used illicit drugs, and in fact I also abstain from alcohol & nicotine. Furthermore, since the beginning I have warned over and over again that Tor is not secure against active government attacks: I wouldn't be found dead running one of these sites.
 - I never had any interaction with CSW. I don't have any keys related to CSW's (probably fictitious) SSS thing.

CSW's whole shtick is to just lie constantly. He's so brazen about it that some people think, "there must be some truth there," but really it's 100% nonsense.

I admit I was a little tempted to troll the world by roleplaying CSW's allegations as totally true...

I'm surprised no one posted this one yet:

World's First Bitcoin Tattoo [NSFW]: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=27958.msg352174#msg352174

Most links have expired except for the four imgur ones BadBear posted.

I've seen that one before I think someone alerted me to it via a PM and I thought I had included it - but I hadn't.

I've added it to timeline.
368  Other / Meta / Re: The most iconic bitcointalk threads. History on Bitcointalk. on: July 17, 2019, 12:32:37 PM
Today, I got the reply from theymos that he took over the forum since 2012.
Here is a detailed clarification from theymos, and I thought that @xtraelv should add it into the OP, because it is one of important things of the forum.
There was a period where both Sirius and I were active administrators. For convenience, I reckon Jan 1, 2012 as when I became head administrator, though it was actually a gradual transition starting before and ending after that.

I've added the whole quote to the introduction rather than adding it to the timeline.

I wrote an article a while ago about the Cypherpunks in a slightly different context.

The Cypherpunks and Bitcoin. The years before bitcointalk.

I'm sorry but I have to mention the elephant in the room.

Another notable notorious cypherpunk.

It appears that some of the other trolls in P&S enjoy chatting with him like they are having some kind of rational debate and discussion about reality, so fuck it let the trolls circle jerk each other all they want IMO!
Can't they circle jerk each other somewhere else? If a single issue is taking up more than 50% of the first page of a board, isn't that the criteria for creating a new board for it? We really need a new board for paedophilia. I wouldn't normally suggest that, but it seems to be a popular subject for discussion. Free speech and all that. Tongue

Perhaps start a pedology board instead. See whether the children know the difference.
372  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: AML/KYC Explained on: July 16, 2019, 07:26:47 AM
https://www.pwc.com/gx/en/financial-services/publications/assets/pwc-anti-money-laundering-2016.pdf

This is an extensive document by PwC that lists every country individually, KYC laws and limits.

Exchanging over certain values can trigger mandatory AML reporting. It is worthwhile understanding and knowing the KYC and AML laws.

It prevents unnecessary issue over locked account. It appears to be something that is happening a lot now.

It is a little bit dated being from 2016 but it is a good start.
373  Economy / Reputation / Re: Game-protect flag on: July 16, 2019, 05:17:33 AM
I always thought GP is sane and a mature person. Not anymore after the feedback he left on my profile. Like was I hoping for such a retard all this while to hire a lawyer and defeat casinos who ought to scam the players? I was so wrong.

@GP: There are a number of members who support this flag and aren't related to casino operators or your competition in any way. That shows your service isn't helping anyone.

I am one of such people. I have never gambled in a real casino and have never gambled crypto in an online casino. * (with the exception of free faucets and lotteries run on exchanges. )

Sorry I've lived a sheltered life. I don't gamble in casinos or at the races, don't smoke, don't do drugs and rarely drink alcohol.

375  Economy / Services / Re: Get 5 BTC for proof who Game Protect scammed and for how much? on: July 15, 2019, 03:03:25 PM
Here is my proof :

This is a bit like the John McAfee Bitfi unhackable challenge. It was hacked a number of times - just not in the way that they worded it.

Hi - anyone else using Game Protect to enforce their claim regarding the Curacao license scam? I instructed them over 3 months ago and paid 5% of my claim to them up front but am struggling to get any specific information about the progress. I have to chase them every 3-4 weeks for an update but always get a response which sounds like they're annoyed i'm even chasing... Anyone else having the same issue? I know this isn't something that can be sorted overnight but a courtesy e-mail every couple of weeks to let me know how they're getting on and what the expected timeline is would be appreciated - they have been paid after all.

Game Protect - my ticket number is 171.

For everyone else, the reason i resorted to Game Protect is because the Casino in question never replied to any of my e-mails/complaints for months and months. I then went to their "License Provider" who also just fobbed me off with lies. My Claim total is nearly £13k albeit GP have said they can get me 50-60% of this back. Which is more than the big fat 0 i have managed over the last few months.

However if the comments already appearing on my thread are anything to go by then it could still be a big fat 0! I will keep my thread update if/when anything actually happens but i'm over 3 months in now...

The "mentally ill" and "child abuser" feedback you posted is "scamming" every user that reads it. Do I get my 5 BTC now ? 35LixBd3DEkqVjPtbai5hgeGX3ZUzqPnq3

Here in your own words:

I personally do not care about this feedback system, as everyone can state what ever nonsense he like. I could only consider provable feedback based on facts.

One thing is clear, the one who make false and misleading statements in the feedback section of someone, is the one who is untrustworthy and not the one who receive it. Logic?

How did you scam ? Deliberately uttering false statements is scamming.
How much ? The cost is the potential damage to the reputation of the person you slandered.
376  Economy / Reputation / Re: Game-protect flag on: July 15, 2019, 02:16:28 PM

Yea, I completely agree. It's absolutely annoying. I mean, I've received 9 negative reps from the guy when I had otherwise perfect trust before. It definitely wasn't a fun a time seeing the 9 negative reps.

You still have perfect trust. Untrusted feedback doesn't display by default.

I have numerous muppets that have placed untrusted feedback in my untrusted feedback repository.  Untrusted feedback can also be described as the rogues gallery.

I believe The Pharmacist has received some of the most colorful untrusted feedback.  Funny to read. Gives an insight into the mindset of some people

Creating a proper and well documented flag support thread against a stupid scammer is a waste of time.
Correct! It is unlike more lucrative to put the proof on the table who I scammed and for how much and get 5 BTC:

Get 5 BTC for proof who Game Protect scammed and for how much?

So why does marlboroza waste his time with this thread or flag or whatever it is instead of getting 5 BTC?

Is he extremely mentally ill or does he intentionally commit the criminal offense of defamation with claiming that after 3,5 years without any scam using this service is a high-risk?

Get 5 BTC for proof who Game Protect scammed and for how much? First come first serve!

This is a bit like the John McAfee Bitfi unhackable challenge. It (Bitfi) was hacked a number of times - just not in the way that they worded it.

marlboroza alleges: Due largely to the factors mentioned in this topic, I believe that anyone dealing with game-protect is at a high risk of losing money, and guests would be well-advised to avoid doing so

I see numerous warning signs :

Deceptive commercial conduct.

No contact details - i.e. real name and address that a legitimate business would display.

An Ed Magedson style business model.

Your hastily placed feedback on 40 forum members proves that you are dishonest.

To place such a flag does not require proof of a successful scam.  It only requires warning signs that indicate someone dealing with you has a high risk of losing their $.
It doesn't stop anyone from dealing with you. It just alerts them to be cautious.

Seems like the owner has changed hands. Compare the recent posts with the older ones. From concrete posts with proper substance to one-liners of vague irrelevancy.

Looks like rather than have a pioneer account he preferred a legendary.

378  Economy / Exchanges / Re: How is your Cryptopia's low-cap coin dealing with the Cryptopia's liquidators? on: July 15, 2019, 12:03:07 PM
Under NZ law crypto is considered "property".

Quote
.Is cryptocurrency treated as a foreign currency for tax purposes?

No. For tax purposes, cryptocurrency is property, not currency. This means foreign currency gain or loss provisions do not apply.

https://www.classic.ird.govt.nz/income-tax-individual/cryptocurrency-qa.html

The liquidator has indicated that they are still seeking further legal guidance.

Currently account holders are classed separately from creditors. This is because it is quite possible that they will class it as "identifiable property held in trust".

It is my view that it is likely that they will attempt to return (or allow the withdrawal) of the Crypto assets to the account owners.

379  Economy / Reputation / Re: game-protect gone mad on: July 15, 2019, 11:31:41 AM
Well it appears many of his posts have been deleted today. I know that I reported most that I saw. I'm not certain it was enough to do a temp ban. At least I am not the only one he claimed was abusing children. I thought that he was supposed to be some kind of legal advocate for casino victims, among other things. That's a great way to deal with people that are critical of you, to slander them by stating they abuse children and are either brain dead or insane.  Roll Eyes

Quote
Is extremely mentally ill alleging that it is a high-risk to use Game Protect, even though we are since 3,5 years active and never scammed anyone!

If you are an online casino victim and this allegation misleaded you to not enforce your claim, please report and we will initiate a class action against responsible participants of bitcointalk.org?

The last bit actually shows he has no idea about the requirements for a class action lawsuit.

It is impossible to prove that someone didn't pursue their claim due to the flag because there are plenty of lawyers in the world that could help do so. They would have to prove that Game Protect is the only service capable of such action.

It is also an absurd statement that has a logical fallacy. If the flag stops someone from getting game protect to pursue a claim against a casino then why would they trust him to pursue a class action against bitcointalk participants ?

While it would be amusing coming from the average BCT troll - Game protect claims to be an expert on these type of matters.
380  Economy / Reputation / Re: Can somebody tag this idiot? on: July 15, 2019, 11:04:19 AM

Maybe I misunderstood but I believe coolcryptovator is saying that leaving feedback isn't necessary and allow admins to take action for breaking forum rules.

theymos has stated when you see someone breaking "guidelines" that you should report them and let the Admins take action.

You understood it perfectly correct. Theymos stated it quite clearly.

Some people were talking about neg-trusting spammers for spamming. This is not appropriate; report the posts, and if that doesn't seem to be working well, come to Meta with specific examples and suggestions.

Breaking of the rules are not a trust issue. It should be reported to the moderator for them to action. (Right bottom corner of each post - report to moderator link)
