21e6 announcing they've raised $116M (!): http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2015/03/10/secretive-bitcoin-startup-21-reveals-record-funds-hints-at-mass-consumer-play/

*still* not saying exactly what they're up to...

Wow, that's incredible, not just for a BTC related company, but for any silicon valley tech company in stealth mode to raise that amount, has to have a very significant product and team.

I was helping my brother and my girlfriend to go through the whole process, using my computer. They're now on the list.

Your girlfriend?  This is ridiculous.  Since when could you claim stakes for friends and family?  Why not just give everyone two stakes if you are allowing 1 family member claim?
383  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends[Updates&Discussion] on: March 10, 2015, 03:13:32 PM
I'm helping them to claim it. They are non techies.

I'm glad I used their PC's so I can probably prove that they are not puppets.
IF they are on the list ofcourse. Very curious.  Cheesy

Just seems silly to claim stakes for the non-techies, people that can't simply claim a stake on BTT certainly won't be able to use the client.
384  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends[Updates&Discussion] on: March 10, 2015, 02:55:29 PM
People were allowed to have 2 stakes and if someone have 20stakes he should be kicked out, its simple as that.

That restriction was lifted, I checked before buying multiple stakes on Nxt AE.
i am not talking about AE, it was before that when NEM first launched. No one was allowed to claim NEM stake from more than 2 BTT accounts.
Incorrect.
When I registered it was allowed to claim stakes for family and friends.
so it was allowed to claim stake for mother, brother, sister, grandma, dogs, cats etc ? as far i know it was allowed to have just two stakes, can someone from Devs confirm this?

no.. one stake for yourself. and one for a family member. total 2 stakes max. that was always the rules.

Oh got it, if someone is "claiming" multiple stakes for a friend, that's BS.

PoI is not susceptible to Sybil-style attacks. It's the first thing we considered when designing the algorithm, before programming even started.

Pretty awesome that you guys built from the ground up like that, POI has real potential.  Looking forward to launch, gotta make sure I can find where I stored my private key.  Smiley

Will you plan some kind of marketing campaign?

I am not sure the best way to approach marketing. Making a post on HN and the various altcoin subreddits seems like a good place to start. I'm somewhat worried about getting too much attention too fast, though at this point I think we're ready for 100+ machines on the network. If we get more attention than that, we're in a good place anyway. I do plan on PMing and emailing everyone who has expressed interest over the past 9 months. It'd also be interesting to let the storj community know that we've appeared as a ready-to-go competitor, but I wouldn't want to be rude about it.

I'm not sure what else we would want to be doing.

Information on Sia team/company, Use-Case for Sia, Instructions, etc.. on Website is a good start and easily distributed.  A new thread here with more info on launch.  Giveaways is always a good way to get people using.  Have a press release written up that can be distributed to Coindesk, Cointelegraph, etc.. shortly after launch.

Will you plan some kind of marketing campaign?  Obviously it's pretty dead on this thread, so would be good to get the word out prior to launch.

A quite good summary, but I loled at "would cause a disruptive ripple effect in society".
My brain is like "Ripple, nooooo!" Grin

Ha, yeah, I cringe every time someone mentions the word "Ripple"

Doesn't look like it's the DOS bug but here is gmaxwell crediting Evil with finding a bug https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/5770

This is a completely different topic, but thanks to Gmaxwell for the credits. I really appreciate that.

I would assume their silence means they are actively working on a solution.  Great to see these bugs addressed and credited in the proper way.  Smiley

People don't seem to care about features, only speculation
Maybe.
What if said features, are just clever but useless fluff that have no real benefits? What if the people producing these features are missing the point, that you need adoption that your parents would understand, and/or that meaningful businesses can/will use, for all this to have broad value?

Back to basics and new-blood needed, me thinks.

Agreed. Crypto in general is very low price wise, once the rocket ship takes off, Nxt will be in a very good position for adoption with more advanced features than any other crypto.

So much work done on NXT over the last few months in the shape of updates, new features etc........and price says 'so what'. Tedious, at best.  Sad

Ho-Hum. As you were.

Yeah, very similar to BTC.

What features have been added to BTC core in the last year?

None, but look at what's been added to the BTC economy as a whole and the price has done nothing but decline.  People don't seem to care about features, only speculation

Wow!  Shocked

Are there other decentralized cryptocurrencies who are at this level of development?

Evil-K has found hard bugs before, he's proven he's capable. I think he should have been taken very seriously from the beginning.

On another note, I'm really shocked that there isn't a strong bounty system in place for catching bugs in the bitcoin code-base.  shocked!  If bitcoiner's wanted serious hard looks at the code, then IMO they'd consider looking into implementing a rewards/bounty program.

If you feel strongly about this, then you should start one.  The only reason that a strong bounty system doesn't exist is because nobody has bothered creating one.  It's an open system, feel free to be the guy that is responsible for creating and maintaining a reliable and trustworthy bounty program.

That's BS.  Why wouldn't the "Foundation" have one?

"The Foundation" is simply a private club of bitcoin enthusiasts. There is nothing official about them.  You are welcome to start your own club and call it "The Bitcoin Association" if you want.  Unless you are a member of their club, they are not beholden to any of your personal interests.  If you want them to have a bounty program, then join their club and campaign for it.

You expect random users to start an important security related program for BTC?

Yes.  The bitcoin system is decentralized and open.  There is no "Bitcoin Company".  If anything ever gets done in the bitcoin community, it is only because a random user decided that it needed to be done, so they did it.

Perhaps we wouldn't have issues like malleability if the Foundation was more proactive about this kind of stuff.

Malleability was known about from very early on.  It wasn't addressed because there weren't any "random users" that felt it was important enough to address.

I guess they can discuss it at their Caribbean retreat Roll Eyes meanwhile hacks continue.

It's their retreat. They can discuss whatever they want.  Meanwhile, you are welcome to sit on your whining butt and continue to complain to the universe about how it doesn't operate the way you want it to.

Thank you for the lessons wise one, until now I thought Bitcoin was a company run by the Foundation who was orchestrating Malleability hacks on exchanges.  I guess I should get off my whinny butt, after all, I've been here longer than you and haven't had the severely limited time to reach Legendary status.

Yeah, but it's a "maybe"?  He could sell the exploit to a mining pool in China for a lot more than 10 BTC, but he didn't.  I don't think there is anything wrong with someone asking to get paid for a major exploit found.  It's more productive then short selling market manipulators who are destroying the price of BTC.

If the bug exist, but now we should only wait a confirm from gmaxwell. I'm sure Evil-Knievel will receive a bounty (if he has right).

I'll throw him a BTC if it's legit.  Also, idiot members shouldn't leave him negative trust without explanation here.  It's the wrong way to deal with exploits.
400  Other / Archival / Re: delete on: February 03, 2015, 04:44:53 PM
EDIT:

Why are you asking for 10 btc ? I think it would be better report that "bug" to bitcoin core devs   and after maybe someone will send you a donation.

Why not?  Some people like to get paid for finding exploits.  If it's a major flaw, then he deserves more than 10BTC.

Yes , but first report the bug and after "maybe" the bitcoin core devs will send you a bounty. Not  in the other way , if he is serious.
