381  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: BTC or Love on Valentine's day. What's your pick? on: February 10, 2024, 08:21:35 AM
I have seen a couple of friends received amazing gifts from loved ones during Valentine's period but I haven't given one neither have I received because I don't really celebrate Valentine perhaps because I haven't been in love before🙄.
Well, people have their different timing for things. That you haven't fallen in love yet isn't a bad thing as much as forcing what isn't there to be there. Love is just a feeling; an emotional attachment, nothing special. I believe love is programmed by those who are involved and it's not something anyone was born with. We choose who we want to fall in love with. That's all there is to it. Those who feel they can't do or survive without someone, in my books, are sissies.

Quote
My friends came up with an idea to take some time off this year and travel  to carrebean inland to catch fun and perhaps, I might find Mrs right in the course of the holiday but with BTC on a bullish move, I feel taking a whole week out of trading is a crazy idea even though the rest is needed.
Why not be circumspect this year and put your holiday on hold till next year so you can save up what you will lavishing on the vacation and invest it in Bitcoin since we're in the bull run. If I were you, that's what I would do.

Quote
Is there any trading event I can leverage on while on holiday so I can catch fun and earn at the same time.
Don't mix business with pleasure. It's even worse when it comes to trading.
382  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is technology really important for investment decisions? on: February 09, 2024, 12:28:22 PM
On Tuesday, February 6, the Solana network shut down again after nearly a year of stable operation. This is the 11th outage in the past 2 years. Perhaps users and investors are too familiar with this "incident", after 5 hours everything has returned to stability[1].
It better stays up and running. I don't want stories that touch the heart as I've a bit of Sol. My expectations are that it does well during the bull run and then also continue to print profit for those staking it.

For the purpose of the question you asked OP, whether technology is really important for investment decisions or not? The answer is a yes for me. Let me share something important with us here and that's away from the Solana token. Let's use Bitcoin for an instance and the type of investments it has engineered. This day, it's not advisable to keep cash in banks. If you aren't spending it within months, swap to tether and leave in your wallet. Again, the phenomenal called Bitcoin is here and it's indirectly guarding many people to cryptocurrency investments. Its technology is literarily making everyone wait upon Bitcoin halving and it's approaching benefits. That's a lot of influence, if you asked me.
383  Economy / Services / Re: [CFNP] BestChange Signature Campaign | Sr Member+ on: February 07, 2024, 10:21:17 AM
This week seems to be a good week, payment was received earlier.
...and I sincerely hope that BestChange didn't pay through its nose to get it across that early. I hate paying exorbitant fees for transactions. It hinders the essence of Bitcoin as a payment option.

Edited: 21 sats/vbyte. Not a bad one then. Fees have dropped.
384  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you have a hard time bringing new people to the forum? on: February 06, 2024, 09:22:20 PM
Back in 2017, when I search about Bitcoin, Bitcointalk is on the first page of google search, but nowadays there are a lot of internet site that talked about crypto and Bitcoin, and maybe those site are appears first, on the top google search, not Bitcointalk anymore.
Oh, you noticed it too? I thought this site not popping up on search like before was from my side and how I was searching. Now I know better. It may even get worse with time and dwindle further out of high visibility especially now that members of our community are porting to a sister forum. Soon, the sister forum will begin to get more views and that will increase its search presence and score (or whatever it's called). I came across this forum (BTT) with ease in 2017 through a search engine.
385  Other / Meta / Re: Use of AI on Bitcoin talk on: February 06, 2024, 07:11:45 PM
We come to the forum to communicate with people, don't we? Do we want to devolve into communicating with AI?
It gets creepy with that as some of us argued and struggled with discussions we thought were genuine contributions; not knowing otherwise. That has been going on for a while. Those who utilized Ai on the forum before some CMs frowned at it and drew up modalities against its use, can best be described as cheats. They presented what they never were and took credit for it as if they wrote them from the top of their heads. It's deceit.
386  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies how do you feel when your post is criticised. on: February 06, 2024, 06:07:45 PM
I don't feel bad...i learn and correct myself. Infact most time i laugh remembering that almost every other thing am better at now i once suck at them. The critics is necessary.
That's the attitude! The easy way to go up is to stoop so you can conquer. Those days that I was job hunting, I actually met an employer who told me to my face that I was a greenhorn for a position I was interviewing for. It was a mind game he was playing with me so as to emotionally degrade my negotiating power once the interview was over. I knew that psychology. I replied him immediately that he should remember that, – Every experienced person was once inexperienced. That got to him as he stiffened a smile. I got that job.

Criticism shouldn't always be seen as something rancorous. We should find positive from it and relate appropriately.
387  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: As a trader never settle for less on: February 06, 2024, 03:34:40 PM
As a bitcoin  trader and holder one should never settle for less
Well, "never settle for less" if you know how to get more. Unfortunately, the principle of getting more isn't open to everyone. If it were possible to get what one desires every time, no one would be settling for less.

In life I have watched many rich people who want to make more and more money why is this so??
That's the nature of man. He's insatiable. Basic economics tells us that. Man is built in a way that makes him keep exploring and in constant pursuit of acquisition. Man never takes a rest in the true sense of it until his demise. The "Rest In Peace" we see on obituaries amplifiers that. Man never rests.
388  Economy / Economics / Re: A course worth studying ? on: February 06, 2024, 02:08:58 PM
Watching the video to the end, I asked myself, "If I had the opportunity to go back in time would I pick another course to study? " And the answer was ..." No". And if I have the opportunity to advise any high school student about courses to choose... I'd say "Economics". The more people learn about even basic economics, the better the economy of countries.
Are you being honest there? I'm not sure. From the other paragraphs of your post, you expressed a bit of fear and uncertainty studying that course. Why the sudden twist there then? Anyway, it's your choice to make. Ordinary, I would think that Economics isn't such an excluded course to study. It's a day to day thing involving man, his needs and finances. Even those who didn't study it can still take care of their stuff if they're prudent and shrewd. I'm not trying to talk down on that course of study but it's just what it's.

Quote
So, if you had the opportunity to advise people about courses to choose In University, what would it be and why?
That would be Medicine for me. The reason being that it's about the only course of study where there's no unemployment. Doctors and nurses are in high demand across the globe. Just a first degree (MBSS) is enough to guarantee a job unlike in other disciplines.
389  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies be aware, don't fall into the trap of getting high ROI in Bull Market on: February 05, 2024, 09:39:49 PM
Just yesterday I was going to trade a small amount of coins to my local currency. So I searched for reputable traders on binance. After I had found one who seemed to be worth my sell I placed my order. Unfortunately I opened the chat and found some rubbish he had written stating that he will not send funds until I had sent my mobile no. Like why do you want my mobile no for trading. I decided to wait a little but he stood by his words and didn't send. When I saw what was happening, I then write out a fake no for him and immediately he transferred my funds in a sec.
What an interesting encounter you had with that buyer. I often get to see that phone number thing too from a few merchants I've transacted with but I always ignored their requests and wait for them to respond. Of course, they always did before the time window ran out. It's needless asking for anyone's number when the stuff needed for the whole transaction exercise has been on the platform. I think there's a warning on Binance against exchanging phone numbers and chatting outside the platform or so. Those with fraudulent minds will keep luring traders to chat them up.

Let me even share this. On my second attempt at P2P,  the buyer marked the order as paid and asked me to release coins. What saved me was the warning on the site which I had assimilated that on no account should anyone release coins without verifying it with bank logins and that we shouldn't rely on sms alone. We should log into our bank app and confirm it there first. So, the buyer insisted that he had made payment but I told him he had to wait until I confirmed it. The buyer never sent any cash until the transaction timed out. I could've reported him to Binance if I knew how then.
390  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you spent $500-$1000 on bitcoin in 2009-2010 on: February 05, 2024, 06:28:18 PM
Then when Laszlo did the pizza deal, you would've bought him a lot of pizzas, then when SmokeTooMuch tried to sell 10,000 for $50 and another guy tried to sell 22,000 bitcoins for like $70-$80 you would've bought that... basically every time it came available. You'd probably have about $500-$1000 into bitcoin by now... and you'd own like 5 million bitcoins...
We're only wiser on hindsight. You painted that picture because we know what Bitcoin has become today in value. Turn the table the other way round, we would be saying that those who sold then were the wise ones and those who held until it became worthless weren't smart. Truth is that there aren't many who bought Bitcoin then who are still hodling till date. It's the same way many of us are throwing away our generational wealth today over a few dollars in profit by selling strong fundamental and utility altcoins now. I hope many won't regret it when the time comes.
391  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin, when to buy on: February 05, 2024, 05:50:59 PM
The choice to buy Bitcoin depends on many factors and objectives. I would advise you to keep an eye on the whales, if they are draining bitcoins, then you can’t enter the market...
Those factors shouldn't be any hindrance at this moment, knowing full well that we're approaching an event that will usher in a new ATH. Bitcoin is still below its present ATH, and we know that it had always overtaken its previous ones to create a new one. If you were looking at any factor that could hold anyone back from buying, that should be during the bear season, not now. ATM, the market is excited.

By the way, anyone can buy at any time they want. Actions of whales can't stop anyone from trading or investing.
392  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Making informed decisions is our responsibility on: February 05, 2024, 04:28:55 PM
Just one wrong move, like clicking on a malicious link or ignoring critical news, can have very negative consequences.
I like the way you saliently identified that clicking on links erroneously could jeopardize our wallet safety. Consequently, scammers will continue to get people through that means because of greed. How do we justify someone clicking on a link where they've been promised to claim something they never applied for or bought? Even if it's an airdrop, at least the claimer applied for it in the first place or used a service affiliated to the project distributing the airdrop. Greed is a killer. If anyone can steer clear of it in this space it would be difficult for them to get hacked or scammed.

Also, the right information can lead to significant gains or safeguard your holdings.
...it can also lead to losses. We shouldn't forget that. Everything about right information isn't right all the time, paradoxically writing. At one time, I was an early investor with a project whose developer meant well for the project and the community he had. Sadly, things didn't go the way he had planned. The token later flopped after several months of the dev trying to steady it. That was the end of it. Many people accused the dev of abandoning the project but that was never his intention. The same thing goes with many other projects. Those who got information (good one at that) of how good and great that project was going to be must've lost out too on their investment.
393  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: There is nothing like it since the past 12 years on: February 05, 2024, 02:10:54 PM
...my battle took me three years, if I have never know Bitcoin and I decided to take the path that everyone in my country was into it would have been harder for me, judging from the present conditions of those who almost stopped my Bitcoin journey, I am not shaming anyone, I am just saying that Bitcoin is worth every shot.
Soon these same people will accuse you of not coercing them enough when they showed reluctance to follow you or learn about Bitcoin. Just wait, they will soon come. That's if they haven't already started saying it behind you. Humans are like that. We find way to blame someone else for our woes, even when it's clear we inflicted such on ourselves. Those who do that  don't deserve anyone's empathy, frankly. Anyway, we applaud you now, reading your journey through the valley of hunger pangs to your point of fulfilment. The thing now is that such tremendous achievement isn't likely anymore within a short period of time with Bitcoin investment alone as Bitcoin doesn't give those jaw dropping ROI it gave a few years ago. Gone are those days. Altcoins can do that now but it depends of finding those gems that can do it.
394  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What does BTC mean to you? on: February 05, 2024, 11:19:31 AM
What does BTC mean to you?
BTC has dual relevance in my books and those are – as money and as real estate (or any property that doesn't depreciate). So, you see how strong I feel it's impact. I believe its the same for many a user here.

Some may say freedom others  say hope in a world of restriction, love to hear your responses.[/center]
The hope and freedom angle is from excited fans. I don't see it from their prism. When we hype Bitcoin to high heavens we should also remember the hiccups it experiences. It's really frustrating when that congestion thing happens. For the first time I had a transaction unconfirmed for over two months. Yes, it was that bad because the app I used didn't have a RBF option on it and there wasn't anything I could do as I never wanted to import it to an app with such a feature. At a point, while waiting, I forgot about the pending transaction. The day it finally confirmed, it was like I was hallucinating. I had to stare at my phone for minutes before it dawned on me I wasn't day dreaming.
395  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Make reading a habit on: February 04, 2024, 04:53:51 PM
A forum senior member told me he could not do without login to the forum for just a week, he say that he is going to hear a little guilty voice that speaks to him and he  said he is already use to it he also told me without reading it  just feels like the end of the world for him…
I guess the member you alluded to there was in a signature campaign. Wait till they're out of campaign and you watch how their online presence here will drop. It's not as if it's a bad thing anyway, considering the fact that we burn data to fuel access to the internet. Again, when you factor in the reality of "where a man's treasure is, that's where his heart will be" truism, then it will be clearly understood why most users put up outstanding presence online.

That aside, reading is mandatory for anyone who's willing to grow out of their mindset and embrace or assimilate diverse cultures and learning. Reading exposes us to the experiences of others and alerts us of what's going on around us. While reading an author we feel what that same author may what to convey to us. It's the same thing reading posts here. There are users here you can tell their mindset and level of education with what they write and the way they write them. Reading and comprehension are necessary for intellectual growth. Those who are often hasty while reading should find a way to read slowly and not to scan or skip write-ups.
396  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why it's wrong to save vital information on your phone. on: February 04, 2024, 03:34:14 PM
It is important not to store any sensitive information about you or your family on your phone because of several reasons.
If somehow your phone got stolen, your entire data might be compromised and get leaked. You might be blackmailed because of the sensitive data.
Your phone can get hacked and your bank information or password gets stolen and you end up losing your money.
This is why everyone should not just stop at putting a password on their phones but also on the SIM cards. That's how I keep mine. So, it's double work for anyone who steals my phone. If the thief is able to assess my phone without flashing it, they won't be able to assess data saved on my SIM as text messages or drafts. The worse that can happen is that my SIM gets destroyed on the ninth wrong try to break my SIM code. It's a win for me.

...to save information like credentials for phone is not bad, especially in your email,  you might need an urgent call and you can print out the credentials they needed in your phone...
But of course, having one's data in one's email isn't saving it on one's phone. It's on the internet. One can assess it through any other means that's not even phone. The PC and desktop computers are their, besides phones, to harvest such from.
397  Economy / Economics / Re: Why does a country borrow money from the world bank even when they can afford it on: February 03, 2024, 07:32:21 PM
I guess, countries that aren't in financial distress may want to borrow from international organizations to increase their interactions in the global space. Yep, that's right and don't think that's a stupid way of getting cosy with others. Being on the borrowers' list puts out the name of such country in the face of others and easily paints them as needing aids. One way of being relevant is being on the lips of others, whether for positive reason or not and these countries achieve that through this. Again, look at what happens here in this forum with members taking out loans. Not every member who's asking for loan here is in dire need of it. Some do it to up their trust score while others may be doing it to get cosy with the creditors and gain their trust.

At every point in time, everyone has their motif for doing whatever they're doing.
398  Economy / Economics / Re: richdad poordad has no more guide after achieving freedom on: February 03, 2024, 04:42:26 PM
This is odd since the story was told as if it was a true life story of the author and I believe that was the reason why people were interested in the ideas of the book.
Well, for me it wasn't odd. I read that book in hard copy. While at it, it occured to me that it was a fictitious book whose writing style was symbolism. There were expressions in it that gave it away as such. The only issue is that most people didn't (don't) read as a literature text that it's. They read as a manual for classical economics or finance. It isn't.

Again, come to think of it, if theory were to equal practical reality the richest people on earth would've been those who have books on finance or economics or professors who teach those courses. Regrettably, that isn't so. For me, I never expected that the Japanese–American businessman, Robert Kiyosaki, would have the same investment prowess as  Warren Buffett. These are two different divides.
399  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be careful and don’t promote a scam campaign on: February 03, 2024, 03:57:13 PM
Yes, wearing a Signature of a scamsite will result in negative DT trust entry for certain members promoting it, rightfully so. Because endorsing such a scamsite can lead to people falling victim to such a scamsite.
It indeed got many accounts neg–tagged, and rightfully so in judgment too. The major culprit, 1xbit, was all over the forum last year. I never knew that bad taste of a campaign would eventually leave this forum one day. It was really annoying. The project opened several campaigns and kept them running. It wasn't just this forum alone it promoted itself. I saw its campaigns on several other fora. For those who joined in that obnoxious campaigns here and got their accounts burnt, I'm cocksure they regret their actions now. My grouse with that site was its nonchalance in resolving those pending issues and accusations against it to clear the dust. For those who promoted it, they never cared what victims felt and that was insensitivity at its height.
400  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be the Person [poster] You Should Be on: February 03, 2024, 02:02:14 PM
There is no need to write or express something that is beyond our ability to make it appear to others that we are great while what is conveyed is misleading or substantially wrong.
You do have a valid observation there and that's true. I've come across many like that. They post what is obviously not what they do outside here. They come here to promote and loud Bitcoin as the only coin they can buy and hodl but in reality they also invest in alts. In fact, most of them don't even have any bit of Bitcoin they're hodling. If you asked me I would say it's hypocrisy of a sort. Some give investment and trading advice whereas they don't even know what trading platforms look or feel like.

It's good you brought that to the fore once again. Sadly, many members don't think that's necessary to do before asking questions that have been repeatedly asked and answered. The search feature should do that magic and prevent needless repetitions of topics.
