Bitcoin is an inferior means of exchanging sums of capital, in its current form. Nobody wealthy really cares about it.
Okay, I'll bite. Personal opinion + unverifiable claim. 2 for 2. Looking like a good blowhard comment so far. Small transactions: cash is faster and 100% secure (money goes from person X to person Y and is verified by counting in 10 seconds or less, vs. bitcoin's 20 minute block confirmation wait).
Completely ignored Paypal's raging success that also requires a period of waiting and is even less secure. Fail. Large transactions: bank transfers are much, MUCH safer (FDIC insurance at my free savings account covers up to $100,000, there's no 100% secure equivalent in the bitcoin world, and wallet security is a joke right now).
Anything is safer when it's guarded and backed by police, governments, armies, etc. Price volatility: developed nation currency is 100 times more stable.
Bitcoin is not a currency. Also, Zimbabwe? Helloooo? Usability: developed nation currency is 100,000 times more commonly accepted as monetary standard.
You must be new here. Almost as new as Bitcoin. TL;DR.

Bitpay sent me a invoice alright, should we all PM it to you Matt or what do you suggest?  If you have an invoice, that is your proof of purchase and your confirmation. I don't know what it is you're asking for. Are you talking about a confirmation of your magazine having been shipped to you? Since you pre-ordered the magazine, we can only provide that one the issue is actually published. It's not a matter of individual decisions. As a means of exchange it depends on group dynamics, and the truth of the matter is that MtGox has a stronghold powerful enough to steer practices and usage. And they're doing it. This is a joke at best. MtGox is about as important for bitcoin from this perspective as James Bowman Lindsay was for the electric industry. Ever even heard of him? Didn't think so. MtGox has the simple choice to obey right now or disappear in a few years at a maximum. The impact of either choice to bitcoin itself is comparable to the impact of the Wright character on Global Warming. He gets agitated often and flails arms a lot but how much heat is that going to generate? I generate quite a lot of heat but it's usual local warming that leads to localized wetness. |

A lot of people just have preference to read physical magazines. I SOMETIMES don't mind reading stuff online, but I always prefer reading a printed copy. Something about reading on a backlit screen just doesn't feel right and is kind of annoying.

You make me laugh. There are people lined up down the street, pre-paying for something that will take forever to arrive (as of now), and have ordered so many that they are already on rev3, and you think your non-order will affect something? Not to mention those that have already plunked down 25, 60, 100+k for rig boxes. Meh. Money is money. I said before that there is a need/demand for a print mag about bitcoin. How much I do not know. But your question about the PC gamer thing was a bit of a silly response.
His example of PC Gamer is showing that it has a huge print-copy reader base, even though it caters to those on a computer all day. Those of us on a computer all day do appreciate a physical mag to hold in our hands. Yay, common sense. EDIT: (I'm going to start putting "EDIT" in front of my edits to make things clearer) It's kind of like how we can always download porn and read slashdot but we still get Maxim magazine "for the articles". |

How is it supposed to reach laymen if it's only digital? How many non-computer users will be interested in using bitcoin? I do think there is a market for printed mags but I do wonder how big it is. How many computer users are not aware of Bitcoin but aware of PC Gamer? Do not know, but don't see how you can make a point with this with out either making a logical fallacy or advertise in PC Gamer. (Based on context I assume that is an in print mag?) You've never heard of PC Gamer? I guess it's more of an American central magazine than I thought. Anyway, I really don't understand what logical fallacy you're talking about. People who have computers and care about economics, nerd culture, hacking, programming, online payment methods, etc don't necessary already know about Bitcoin, just like girls with a computer who like makeup don't necessarily automatically know about "Bubz" makeup channel on Youtube, and I bet having a flyer in their high school would bring more traffic than an online spam link any day of the week. There's also a certain amount of prestige when dealing with a printed, professionally designed product. The difference is this-- when someone sees the Coineer e-zine/childrens school activity printout PDF, they will run away from Bitcoin laughing. When someone sees the Bitcoin Magazine, they're going to think "Wow, what is this interesting new culture I haven't heard about before?". Oh and you're welcome. |
