401  Economy / Trading Discussion / Exchange help for selling BTC in UK on: October 12, 2012, 09:38:45 PM
Hi,
Since the exchange I use can no longer let me buy/sell BTC in UK,are there any places in the UK that I can sell my BTC for GBP (I don't want SEPA as my bank charges about £10 GBP for this to recieve it in Euros and a lot more for USD to UK bank accounts).

I used to use intersango but since Metro bank decided to stop working with Intersango,I've lost the ability to sell off my BTC.

Do you guys know of any solutions that can work for me in the UK to sell off my Bitcoins for GBP?

I want a solution that is:
a.Relatively trouble free (no issues with ID checks or if there are checks that they are quick and not excessive)
b.Must be reliable/trustworthy to avoid being a victim of a scam artist.

Any help would be appreciated. Smiley
402  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Intersango Exchange on: October 09, 2012, 06:08:48 PM
How is Intersango doing with sorting out their GBP transfers (in and out of exchange)? I currently see no ETA yet as I presume that a new bank hasn't been found yet but still at least update us once in a while. Speaking of exchanges (i know this may seem a little off topic) does anyone know of an exchange that still does GBP and BTC trads (buying/selling)? As I've been unable to trade for a long time (over 2 months now).

I'd like to sign myself up for this service so I can replace the rest of my sigs (not in use by coinabul)Will this be a one of payment or one every month, that I'm active on here? I mostly read once in a while due to other work I have to do(as a professional filmmaker these days, mostly editing though)

HE scammed me out of 17btc as well who do I message to get him labeled as a scammer
Try PM'ing a moderator or an admin. That worked for me.Sometimes they'll notice a thread and PM you, like the admin did for me.

Another issue I noticed that I'm concerned about is the fact that a withdrawal I made over 2 weeks ago has yet to be processed. For the amount of £72.65.Support has responded but I've yet to recieve my money.Does anyone know how to contact trading standards and FSA (financial services authority-covers mostly banks but does cover other stuff) in UK?Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Smiley

I figured that since I only visit this forum occasionally,I should add to the discussion (even if people don't fully agree with me) as to what made me an occasional visitor instead of frequently checking this forum every hour of every day (except when I need to sleep-don't skimp on sleep,it's not good for you) like I used to.One of the reasons I noticed was the fact that like OP of this thread said here,I would witness many otherwise fine threads being turned into flame wars for seemingly no reason, plus the lack of moderation makes it difficult for me to say that I can confidently do business trouble free without the fear of being trolled myself. Civility will only come when the environment here favours/is adapted for this goal, rather than a free for all like it is now.At the end of the day I still have a choice to go to another site (although none are as popular as this forum though) but we should also aim to improve things here so that the environment will let Bitcoin thrive like it ought to really.

I made my own forum in a response to the fact that some people from elsewhere (not just here) were telling me that they were trolled excessively on the internet. My forum covers other topics apart from Bitcoin so there should be something for everyone,I hope.I could use new members/visitors as I wish to see if I can help create a more friendly atmosphere for innovation and exchange of ideas (which itself is the experiment).www.dreamislands.forumup.com is the link for those of you who are interested.I mention this as I wish to show what I'm doing to at least help address some of the concerns raised by OP and that I can aim to make online comunities a better place to be.The ethos is the user experience is key to the users on my forum.

Is anyone going insane due to this wild roller coaster ride? I just cannot take my off of the chart.

I can honestly say I've been driven to the edge as I'm now checking on my trades constantly 24/7 at 2 exchanges. What drove me nuts was the fact that I tried to sell ~9.47BTC (when BTC was £10.20 each) at intersango yesterday,it never got carried out so I lost out big even though others were successful when they old BTC each at around $15.Thanks a lot intersango Sad I thought BTC trades were more responsive to market conditions like NYSE and other stock exchanges.Any of you guys know of a good exchange that does BTC to GBP? As I'm fed up with Intersango.

Just Intersango or Mt.gox I think, and there's not much between them, they are both ok IMO, on the odd occasion I've had issues they've been sorted *reasonably* promptly. I don't use Intersango these days much because I use cash mainly and I can't get it into their exchange since they switched to MetroBank.
Is Mt Gox a good exchange? If so I'll move to them. Are trades quicker on Mt Gox than Intersango? As I can't afford to wait a lifetime to profit.

So because you can buy drugs with FIAT and Launder money with FIAT.... Do they have the same opinion of it?

Seems silly..... Doesn't make a difference what kind of currency you're using... They can all buy drugs and boobies:)
Money is just a tool of trade like GBP,BTC,etc.Problem is certain types of people (Govt, politicians, special interest groups possibly) have tried hard to stick an image in the minds of most people that the main uses for BTC are illicit (or shady) rather than just another method of trade (like GBP,USD,etc is today) and I think that such press isn't helping things for the average man who know very little about BTC/haven't really heard of it in the first place.
409  Other / Off-topic / Re: How does your significant other feel about your bitcoin obsession? on: August 18, 2012, 03:22:38 PM
Since I don't have a significant other,I may as well add to the fact that some people who know me,think I'm nuts but very few are supportive of me making money with Bitcoin mining. It's not helpful when people you know think you're just plain nuts like in my case.

Maybe the ones calling you nuts are crazy themselves Tongue

Perhaps(they're just as nuts).I don't think Bitcoin's reputation in mainstream circles is helping things though (to be fair most people have a poor impression of BTC in mainstream circles, money laundering this, drug buying that.I mean these publicised uses aren't helping BTC gain a good rep for the average man)

412  Other / Meta / Re: Mandatory forum donation on: August 18, 2012, 02:36:08 PM
My idea is to make use of the forum donation tool to collect funds to support all kind of community tasks by enforcing a donation of 1BTC from members and maybe 10BTC for businesses after a member reach i.e 50 postings.

By definition, if it is mandatory, it no longer becomes a donation.  You might instead call it a tax.

Personally, I'm against "mandatory donations".
+1 A 'forum tax' = me leaving to visit another Bitcoin forum.
413  Economy / Lending / Re: A list of defaulted loans (list of scammers inside here) on: August 18, 2012, 02:06:47 PM
Add TheLastDovah. He scammed me out of 4 BTC and owed me 5BTC (due to 1BTC of interest) in bad loans. It'a likely he could be using alt accounts.
Interest doesn't count. Or those 2k loan should worth 10K by now
I simply mentioned all that for the sake of transparency. In either case I was scammed out of 4BTC in bad loans to TheLastDovah so he should be added as well so others know not to trust him.He also stopped using his account altogether a day before payback. He's probably moved on to another account by now.
414  Economy / Trading Discussion / Looking for a new exchange for BTC to GBP trades on: August 18, 2012, 12:05:37 PM
Ever since I got news that Intersango,a main exchange I used to use for every trade,is having issues and is constantly delaying my trades so that by the time they finally trade,I get short changed (sort of).I was forced to cancel my order when I saw that something wasn't right. If you want to address my issues, please come and help Intersango as my patience is running out.

Example-Yesterday,I placed an order of ~9.49BTC for a price of £10.20 for each BTC.The price jumped and then plummeted down to ~£8 even though I saw people buying at that rate on other exchanges as I heard one guy successfully sold for $15.20 per BTC during the boom on a different exchange (I presume) at about a similar time frame I made my order (I guess as it seemed quick).

I'm looking for a new exchange that is:
a.Reputable/reliable
b.Trades are carried out more quickly than Intersango.
c.Have some form of recourse in case I have issues
d.Let me trade from BTC to GBP.
e.Good customer service is a must as I can't afford any more screw ups like I highlighted above.

I know about Mt Gox and Bitmarket.eu but what are they like?

BTC-E has demonstrated itself to be reliable but don't offer BTC/GBP trades in my experience.

Any suggestions would help thanks.

416  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: *RED FLAG* Intersango on: August 18, 2012, 12:26:22 AM
I figured I'd contribute to this thread to get Intersango to resolve an issue for me.I sold off all my BT at £10.20.The issue is,it was left in limbo as the price rose and then suddenly dropped without me noticing.I really don't understand what can be causing this or whether this is another red flag or not. It's worried me a lot as I could have made nearly £100 from the trade as well. Please sort this out Intersango. Also what's the connection with Bitcoinica and Intersango so I can get up to date with the news (haven't been on here in a while)? Thanks.
417  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Have an open signature? Use this forum too much? Let's talk. on: August 05, 2012, 07:33:27 PM
Still looking!

I'm still wanting to replace my sigs with something else for BTC.I PM'd you but I didn't hear from you. I want to take part in this if possible.

Updates:Recieved a PM shortly after posting this. Thanks Coinabul
Now reached an agreement with Coinabul that we're both happy about.
Pleasure doing business with you Smiley
418  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: The difficulty is now at a new all time high on: August 04, 2012, 03:34:27 PM
Looks like it's time for me to look into FPGAs for present demands (as it looks like BFL won't be able to meet my needs due to really long pre-order list for the ASICs/plus their famous delays too) as well as look into suppliers of mining equipment (GPUs/FPGAs/ASICs) who are reputable (I'm sticking to UK suppliers for tax reasons plus legal protections if something goes wrong, like non delivery/faulty product).

I think I've reached the limit for my current equipment (as they can't be pushed any further on the MBP and PC with HD6950 under current conditions) so I'll have to think carefully where I thread from now on (either consider further expansion of mining capability or plan for a phased withdrawal if suppliers in UK are unable to meet my needs for equipment plus I can't trust overseas suppliers due to tax/buyer protection issues. In UK buying abroad means paying tax at customs to 'release' the shipment at customs and this can take time).

I'm also diversifying my portfolio for which crypto currencies to mine with (currently consists of BTC and LTC since SC is no longer meeting my needs-big delays in Microcash transition is putting me off further investment until things are on a more solid footing with SC/MK) so for now this'll help me in the short term.

Anyway thats, that for the strategy part. I do think that when more people get annoyed at very high difficulty, they'll simply drop out of mining (as it's unprofitable for them) and the difficulty will drop and cycle will repeat itself thus business as usual.
419  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin client and Mountain Lion OSX 10.8 on: July 29, 2012, 08:02:09 PM
I just upgraded to mountain lion and everything works fine for me perfect

Well, thats interesting gweedo because after a while, the problems are finally starting to subside (Crashes no longer happen) but the fact I still have to wait for several minutes when I can actually see the client after it's opened, tells me that perhaps things aren't fully ready for Mountain Lion.
420  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin client and Mountain Lion OSX 10.8 on: July 29, 2012, 09:44:43 AM
After some initial tests, the OS does appear to be more responsive that snow Leopard on a mid 2010 MBP (which used to be sluggish).I'm not sure whether this is simply early days of using Mountain Lion or whether the OS is more optimised.

GateKeeper is something you'll have to get used to as a user and a dev (get into the habit of signing your apps so it doesn't appear to be iffy/harmful in the eyes of the OS/Apple)

I tend to experience better performance after Spotlight finishes indexing on the OS,same with Lion (which I skipped but heard about).I do occasionally get bitcoin crashing though.Maybe this can be fixed.

I can also see that most non official clients or clients of other currencies (official Litecoin client) crash far too often so it's really up to those devs to fix this soon.I'll keep that short to avoid going off-topic.

I hope this helps you with what you need to know about Mountain lion so far.
