421  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Coinhive cryptojacking service to shut down in March 2019 on: February 28, 2019, 04:17:46 AM
zdnet

"The drop in hash rate (over 50%) after the last Monero hard fork hit us hard," the company said. "So did the 'crash' of the crypto currency market with the value of XMR depreciating over 85% within a year."

"This and the announced hard fork and algorithm update of the Monero network on March 9 has lead us to the conclusion that we need to discontinue Coinhive," the company said

It is sad to see a curious experiment like this one be shut down. But unfortunately, most people that have put this on their website didn´t warn about. I hope that someone could think in a better version in the future.
422  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Using a BTC Mixing Service and Power Went Out on: February 28, 2019, 04:06:52 AM
People will try to help you, BUT, people could try to scam you too. The only thing you should do right now is contacting the service that you have used. IF they can´t help you, open a new topic explaining the situation and the community will try to suggest something to do.

Mostly of Mixers have active help topics here on Bitcointalk. But you should contact using the official channels they provide on their website.

423  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cardano will destroy Ethereum! on: February 28, 2019, 03:58:29 AM
I am hearing about cardano since long but still yet to hear about any dApps being made over it. 'operating on a first-of-its-kind proof-of-stake (PoS) algorithm' — first of its kind? Peercoin started POS and its nothing new.

It is not possible to build any dApps right now. Their road map is one of the most transparent and their goal is to be a decentralize project before the dApps.

Peercoin was the first to try to use PoS. But they still need PoW to secure their network. So Ouroboros is the first provably secure proof of stake protocol.
424  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Do you recommend a mobile wallet alternative for Coinomi wallet? on: February 28, 2019, 03:46:02 AM
I like using edge. But only for small values, they support some altcoins. myCelium is great too, but I only use their desktop version. And for Bitcoin, there is electrum mobile. But I think if you like coinomi you should stay with them. They are probably the mobile wallet that supports the greater amount of assets.

Coinomi post all the interaction they have with Watih. And called him a blackmail.

If you use Android or iOS app, you do not need to do anything.

426  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Where to buy Gold Bullion with Bitcoin in the UK? on: February 28, 2019, 12:40:36 AM
Apmex minimal purchase using BTC is $250, maximum is $250,000. Shipping costs $49.95 USD + $0.25 USD per ounce weight. They use FedEx
427  Other / Meta / Re: @theymos, proposals and rules. on: February 27, 2019, 09:29:58 PM
There are several people who create an account to post a single fact or discuss a single subject. Often they do this because they are in an environment not so secure to access their main account or do not wish to link their main account with some specific project. Or sometimes do not even have an account, just read the forum and decided to discuss a subject that he dominates.

A newbie account does not mean that it is a newbie person in the Bitcoin world.

BTW, Why these military ranking?

Qual foi o primeiro caso de roubo de BTC?

Teve esse:
"I just got hacked - any help is welcome! (25,000 BTC stolen)"

"Animated images are not allowed".

OK, APNGs are now detected. Old ones are grandfathered for now, in part because people have ongoing campaigns, but in the future I might (or might not) go through and remove them.
430  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Coinomi wallet sends your plain text seed phrase to Google on: February 27, 2019, 07:36:46 AM
https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/av987o/security_vulnerability_coinomi_wallet_sends_your/?utm_source=reddit-android

more info and for those that don't want to click through to twitter:

Demo video: https://streamable.com/keq40

When you enter your seed phrase to recover a new wallet, the Coinomi app makes a request to Google's spellcheck api to spellcheck the seed phrase. Yup, I know. The plain text seed phrase is accessible to Google (although transport uses SSL so it's encrypted over the wire). However this does mean that if you're using Coinomi your seed phrase is likely sitting in plain text logfiles at Google, accessible to a large number of employees.

I'd recommend if you use Coinomi wallet to immediately move all of your funds to a different wallet. I'd suggest something open source and well known or ideally a hardware wallet.

Full credit goes to https://twitter.com/warith2020 for finding the vuln. He's also claimed he's lost about $70k of funds from his wallet and Coinomi are avoiding the question of whether they'll reimburse him. This is why he's now decided to go public.

Read more from him here: https://www.avoid-coinomi.com/

O didn't check, and I do not use coinomi. But it appears to be something serious and stupid.
431  Other / Meta / Re: The profile page should be changed. No one uses ICQ, AIM, MSN or YIM. on: February 27, 2019, 03:28:25 AM
@OgNasty you are right. But the discussion is more about the way to contact someone. On signal you need to have the number of the person that you want to talk. On telegram you just need the nick, and you could talk with that person without exchange your phone number. Discord, slack you only need a nickname/email too.

And I do not think it is off-topic because it is a topic about the part on the profiles page that we use to put personal contact. It is important to discuss anonymous and safe issues about those messagers  =)

About the tip button, even if it was not widely used, could work as an experiment for other websites and forums. I found the twitter bot tip a very interesting experiment. On Reddit, this was widely used in the past.

"create a new topic. (82 posts by 26 users with 23 merit deleted.)"

First time I see this warning about the amount of deleted Merits. It would be interesting to see that on a topic that was not self-moderate. It seems to me to be something very rare, yet, it would be important information that could go unnoticed if it were not a self-moderate topic.

Motivation
My software priorities are, in no specific order:

Programs should run on my local system so that I’m in control of them, this excludes cloud solutions.
Programs should run in the terminal, so that they can be used consistently from anywhere, including weak computers or a phone.
Keyboard focused is nearly automatic by using terminal software. I prefer to use the mouse where it makes sense only, reaching for the mouse all the time during typing feels like a waste of time. Occasionally it took me an hour to notice that the mouse wasn’t even plugged in.
Ideally use fast and efficient software, I don’t like hearing the fan and feeling the room heat up. I can also keep running older hardware for much longer, my 10 year old Thinkpad x200s is still fine for all the software I use.
Be composable. I don’t want to do every step manually, instead automate more when it makes sense. This naturally favors the shell.

The mistaken made by US government does not make the decisions of Maduro right. The two leaders may be wrong in many decisions. But it is difficult to debate or defend a regime that is doing everything they can to expel from the country who thinks differently.

It is not just American sanctions that are isolating Venezuela.

It is important to emphasize once again that since January, Brazil has a government that is radically against Maduro's government.

This war for information passed by the press is the last resource of the government. There is no other possibility for this government to stand. It is a dispute over narratives. But how to believe in a version that prohibits videos that are not positive?

Can't you access other people's number from telegram? I thought you could (since it's required).

No. You can´t know the phone number from a user on telegram. You could search for him using only their nick.
436  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ★ A Complete Guideline to use forum search button properly ★ on: February 26, 2019, 05:40:49 PM
You could use duckduckgo.com too.

You can use duckduckgo.com as well. By not tracking your searches and not tracking you anywhere you visit on the internet, I would recommend using it instead of google.
They use the same codes as google. Just enter the terms you want to search followed by:

Code:
site:https://bitcointalk.org

So if you want to search for satoshi, it would look like this:
Code:
satoshi site:https://bitcointalk.org
satoshi

You can search in specific sections too. You just need to put the right number of the section.

Altcoin discussion is number 67.
Code:
site:https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=67
Ethereum

Bounties is number 238
Code:
site:https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=238
pay me to

Development & Technical Discussion is number 6
Code:
site:https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=6
To find discussions about fee on Technical Discussion fee site:https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=6

437  Other / Meta / Re: Epochtalk is ready, theymos wants us to test it. C'mon... on: February 26, 2019, 05:31:00 PM
Wouldn’t it be better if Bitcointalk provided a common test environment that was open for anybody to use, without people having to download the software and setting up their own environments? Depending on how the software has been developed, it could be on "debug mode" and trap software errors into a log in it’s own. Functional errors would logically need to be reported by the people who test the software.

Testing the software has multiple perspectives (installation, functional usage under different profiles such as admin, mod, regular user, db admin, etc.). Surely here the main target would be that of regular users (functionality and stress tests), being the other profiles more delicate and subject to perhaps a delimited cherry-picked set of volunteers. But a common forum created test platform would seem the way to go.

There was a test forum that was disabled
http://beta.bitcointalk.org/

I think that theymos proposal is not just that we test, is that people try to build another forum using the same software. And try to correct and modify what each one finds interesting. It seems a more practical idea than centralizing the modifications and tests in a single version. He does not have so much time to test everything that was proposed. So he could just modify what was already working well and the transition would be faster.
438  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Help - Crazy high transaction fees from Exodus wallet during withdrawal!!! on: February 26, 2019, 04:41:17 PM

It is a totally different case from yours. OP has posted this during the fee peak from 2017. The fee WAS really hight. Your case was just a confusion about how the charge works on Bitcoin. OP has pay high fees.
439  Other / Meta / Re: Analysis – sMerit awarding habits – overall and individual on: February 26, 2019, 04:20:45 PM
QuestionAuthority would probably be the first on the top 20 sMerit senders too because of his old topic. It would be interesting to see how many of the users that have send or received 50 Merits was banned from the forum. @dbshck is on top 5 of senders in 3 of the 5 categories, and if you put top 4 sMerits senders he would probably be there too with @suchmoon.

theymos is on all top five lists of Merits receivers. And it is not in any of the Top sMerit Senders.
440  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who's filling up the mempool at the moment? on: February 26, 2019, 05:30:30 AM
Currently ~20% of transactions are coming from VeriBlock, Jeff Garzik's new altcoin, which uses proof of proof to reach consensus.

Some people say that could be more than 30%.

https://opreturn.org/
https://testnet.explore.veriblock.org/network-stats

“Source of the now-highest volume of OP_RETURN outputs has been identified as Veriblock “proof of proof” miners,” explained Lopp. “They are creating around 20% of all BTC transactions now."
