Could you give an example of this conspiracy talk?

That's fair, let me see what examples I can dig up and post here. I just hope it doesn't bring more attention to the bullshit!

Here are some examples. I'm providing the titles of the threads, not the links themselves because I don't want to contribute to the traffic to these threads:

  • Why do Islam hates people?
  • BREAKING NEWS: American Patriots Militia Groups taking down the Federal Reserve
  • Why the Illuminati killed Robin Williams Conspiracy EXPOSED
  • [Vote] Who did 911?
  • Elders of 13 inbred European Bloodlines house training their inbred children

And pretty much anything from Actor_Tom_Truong or toddtervy.
Just the fact that it took you so long to find these threads and that the threads are not in the first page proves how hollow your argument ,about the threads being popular and "blocking" the "good" threads from coming to public view, is. I do agree with the spam argument though, they take up a lot of unwanted space.

First, it took me all of 2 minutes to find these threads, I only had to scan 5 pages in.

Second, as I was scanning 5 pages in I realized that these conspiracy threads aren't really clogging up the board or hiding the better threads

Third, they'll always be a waste of space and they do tend to come in spam like frequency. I.d., when Actor_Tom posts his BS about the illuminati, it's usually three threads in a row!

Maybe the solution is to just jump on these people when they post their BS. If we shut them down quickly they may go back to Reddit...

I think this section is for people posting their opinions on hot-button issues, and it is inevitable that some of them get to you if you look hard enough.

I agree. I think i'll close this, it's run its course. Thanks for chatting it out with me!
423  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Too much conspiracy theory talk on this Board - how do we stop it? on: October 05, 2015, 06:41:45 AM
why don't you try live and let live. if there are people that want to speak about anything within the forum rules who are you to spit your dummy out about it? question how many threads are in the section and how many did you hunt down. there is not to much and the so called really good talk you talk of is still there isnt it. no i am not with you i think your a little bit of a plonker.

Good point, but hey - who are YOU to tell people you don't like their threads?! Why don't you stop "spitting your dummy out about it!"

Relax man, I never said these members should be banned or something. I only said that I've had enough of the conspiracy theory threads and wanted to know if anyone agreed with me. You don't, you didn't need to respond. Thanks!

P.S. What the hell is a "plonker"?

Is there some way to earn Bitcoins quickly?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Work for them! It's the easiest way i'm aware of and I've been looking for a long time.

Whatever you do, do it for bitcoin and you'll see your earnings rise and rise and rise. Good luck!
426  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hello newbie question here, on: October 05, 2015, 06:34:00 AM
Are you good at poker or dice?  Playtodos.com (see my link below) is a great gaming site that can help you earn some bitcoin, if you're willing to wager some.

The odds are as good as anyone else's and the play and payout is really easy! They've had bonuses for new accounts in the past, you should see if those bonuses still exist!

Good luck.

Conspiracy theories get stopped the second they're proven irrefutably incorrect. That is how you stop "conspiracy" talk, while encouraging open-information simultaneously.

It's the traffic that results that annoys me, not the fact that people believe in conspiracies.
429  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What is going wrong in the world? on: October 05, 2015, 06:06:47 AM
For example, Black lives matter has been breaking laws left and right, shutting down highways, events, and they are being praised by the media.  This is absolutely sick, They should be arrested when they break the law not praised for it.

Not to mention the irony of their purpose. They're an organization that purports to fight racism by preaching that one race of people's lives are more important than others. I realize they don't say "Black Lives Matter MORE" but saying that "BLACK lives matter" any excluding all other races is inherently racist. If they really cared about all races and ending racism they wouldn't limit their love to just one race.

I think the point they are trying to make is that blacks are disproportionately targetted.

Someone else on reddit said it best, I'll just quote it here.
https://www.reddit.com/r/explainlikeimfive/comments/3du1qm/eli5_why_is_it_so_controversial_when_someone_says/

Quote
Imagine that you’re sitting down to dinner with your family, and while everyone else gets a serving of the meal, you don’t get any. So you say “I should get my fair share.” And as a direct response to this, your dad corrects you, saying, “everyone should get their fair share.” Now, that’s a wonderful sentiment — indeed, everyone should, and that was kinda your point in the first place: that you should be a part of everyone, and you should get your fair share also. However, dad’s smart-ass comment just dismissed you and didn’t solve the problem that you still haven’t gotten any!

The problem is that the statement “I should get my fair share” had an implicit “too” at the end: “I should get my fair share, too, just like everyone else.” But your dad’s response treated your statement as though you meant “only I should get my fair share”, which clearly was not your intention. As a result, his statement that “everyone should get their fair share,” while true, only served to ignore the problem you were trying to point out.

That’s the situation of the “black lives matter” movement. Culture, laws, the arts, religion, and everyone else repeatedly suggest that all lives should matter. Clearly, that message already abounds in our society.

The problem is that, in practice, the world doesn’t work that way. You see the film Nightcrawler? You know the part where Renee Russo tells Jake Gyllenhal that she doesn’t want footage of a black or latino person dying, she wants news stories about affluent white people being killed? That’s not made up out of whole cloth — there is a news bias toward stories that the majority of the audience (who are white) can identify with. So when a young black man gets killed (prior to the recent police shootings), it’s generally not considered “news”, while a middle-aged white woman being killed is treated as news. And to a large degree, that is accurate — young black men are killed in significantly disproportionate numbers, which is why we don’t treat it as anything new. But the result is that, societally, we don’t pay as much attention to certain people’s deaths as we do to others. So, currently, we don’t treat all lives as though they matter equally.

Just like asking dad for your fair share, the phrase “black lives matter” also has an implicit “too” at the end: it’s saying that black lives should also matter. But responding to this by saying “all lives matter” is willfully going back to ignoring the problem. It’s a way of dismissing the statement by falsely suggesting that it means “only black lives matter,” when that is obviously not the case. And so saying “all lives matter” as a direct response to “black lives matter” is essentially saying that we should just go back to ignoring the problem.

Great explanation from Reddit, thank you for sharing!

The fact that the "too" may be implicit at the end of "black lives matter" is an interesting one, many of us may think that it is implicit. But that organization doesn't use that word, maybe it isn't implicit. Maybe they are trying to get more attention to just black people, in the context of every race needs to fight for itself.

If the statement was "Black lives matter too!" there would be no room for confusion, no misunderstanding, no implicit feeling that they only care about their race.

While there have been some awful, public crimes against black people. There have also been awful, public crimes against white/asian/hispanic/indian/inuit/arabic/[insert race here] people.

A lot of the "victims" this organization believes are examples of the system not demonstrating that black lives matter were criminals - not innocent people, but people who stole, hurt others, cheated, disobeyed the norms of society (norms that are created by everyone in society, every race, every culture.)

It's hard for me to understand an organization that limits its charity to one class of people, let alone one that uses examples where the victims were criminals as their prime examples of the "injustice".

It's unfortunate that this organization doesn't add the "too" at the end of their slogan, because that would remove all doubt AND include everyone (implicitly). It would clearly explain that black people believe they're not getting their fair share...

431  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Peeple: The App From Hell? on: October 05, 2015, 05:41:33 AM
People get so torn up when the stuff they do on the internet, behind the safety of a computer screen, is suddenly in the public spotlight. If the internet is public, why shouldn't people be subject to the consequences of the public viewing of their pictures or statements?

This app could have a very good effect,

1. It could result in a cleansing of the crap that people post on the internet.

2. It could result in people being NICER to each other on the internet, for fear that if they're an asshole they'll be called out for it.

There's a consequence to everything, at a minimum this app helps people understand that point. And at a minimum I think that's a good thing.

How do we stop the growing conspiracy theory talk on this board?

Is anyone else annoyed with the wild claims and stories that have little fact or support that a few people have been posting on this board?

It takes away from the really good political conversations that exist here. It's such a waste of space and time. And a lot of times it's like spam there are so many threads.

Anyone with me?
433  Other / Politics & Society / Re: GAY MEN WANT KIM DAVIS BACK IN JAIL on: October 05, 2015, 05:31:29 AM
The gay couple should divorce then re marry. To prove to the world how much they love each other...

Gay "couples" marry only to gain welfare payments. Unlike the heterosexual couples, there is no loyalty to the spouse. "Married" homosexuals will continue to indulge in sex with perfect strangers, and it is very much accepted in the gay community. Already tax payers are bearing the burden of subsidizing HIV medications to these people ($10 billion every year, in the US). Why the taxpayers have to pay even more money out of their pocket?

This is the most ridiculous thing I've read on this Forum. Any facts to back up your bullshit? Seriously, if you have facts I'll delete this post.

Bryant, why don't you just save us time and admit you hate gay people?

Kim Davis is a not a great Christian, she's a hypocrite...

  • Greed - she continues to collect her paycheck even though her job now compromises her religious beliefs
  • Sloth - she fails to resign from her post as keeping her post forces her to disobey her beliefs and compromises the religious conviction she is now "campaigning" on
  • Wrath - she hates gay people who want to formalize their love for each other with the State by getting married
  • Pride - she is so prideful of her "steadfast conviction" to Christian tenets that she will directly disobey the law and people that elected her to office

This woman needs to spend a lot of time reflecting on herself, who she is, what her beliefs really are. Then she needs to try to live her life to that model - if she believes gay marriage is a sin, she needs to resign and not take money for a job that she believes is the devil's work. She needs stop breaking the law. She needs to stop imposing her beliefs on her neighbors (which is what the earliest opponents to Jesus did to Christians with his crucification.)

The only difference is now we have mass media and we don't try to hide it like we did in the fifties. Humans almost thrive on knowing what is wrong now.

The media is a big part of why it feels worse now than in years past. The media not only lets us know it's happening but they also get to put a spin or point of view on the story. Too often that spin becomes more and more sensational or one sided because ordinary news doesn't attract people to the TV station or eyeballs to the website.

When we all start showing universal respect for each other, as neighbors, less judgement, more listening, more effort understanding - we will see the world improve.

What does the USA have to do with this?

The terrorists are from the Syria (maybe not Syrian, but you know...where they operate). The video is from Israel.

Why are you trying to link this to the USA? Don't place blame unless you can provide some facts or logic or critical thought...
436  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The 10 Commandments of Internet Security & Online Privacy on: October 05, 2015, 05:08:48 AM
What would be more helpful is explanations for newbies on how they can succeed at following all of these commandments.

For example:
  • How do I mask my IP using a proxy service?
  • How do be "extra" cautious on social media?
  • What communication tools for email, messaging,  and  VOIP are safest?

Knowing the commandments is a great first step, but not unless one learns how to follow them.

Share what you know!

yes, you are right, that's what the "Privacy Tools" on avoid-getting-caught.com page is for.
It's listing the most useful, free & user-friendly privacy enhancements I have personal experience with.

Hmmm, this looks like a random link from a random person. Someone told me not to click on things like this!

Its easier if you have 2 PC's. One for work where you excercise maximum caution and discipline, because your money depends on it.

The other is for fun, here you can play video games and surf random shit, because this pc is not important.

This seems like really good advice, if you can afford two PCs and if you can have the discipline to not use both for internet access. Of course the size of ones balance will influence how much they need to adhere to these commandments.

Just ask questions mate. There are no stupid questions. And forget about the rank and everything else. Even legendary members sometimes ask stupid questions or write stupid comments. No embarrassment. We are here to help each other, and to help Bitcoin reach its potential!

This is exactly right and should be the moral that we all live by!

Seniority doesn't matter. Rank is an equation of time and posts, not the expertise of bitcoin. People could be posting about politics, economics, or gambling...none of that provides expertise about bitcoin. The only bad question is one asked out of laziness. There are a lot of answers that are readily available on this Forum (from all the smart people) but some of us choose not to read for those answers, but yet ask them in a new thread. That's simply lazy. Everything else is a great question.

439  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do I need a wallet on my computer if I have a Trezor or Keep Key ? on: October 05, 2015, 04:59:00 AM
I'm trying to understand how these work.  From what I understand so far the Trezor or KeepKey contain a "private key" that's used to sign a transaction.

I watched a couple of videos but most just show how the devices operate and don't give a high level view of what each actually does.

Can someone explain to me how this works in a few more words.  Does the Trezor or KeepKey generate a wallet address for example.  Also I understand if I lose either then I can restore if I know a set of words.  But how does that actually work?

Here is a link to the Trezor User Manual. You should read it carefully.

It sounds like the OP has done this already, thanks for turning him away.

Those hardware wallets still require a wallet on a connected computer in order to function. They can interface with certain wallets, you will need to check their websites to find out which ones. Those wallets create the transaction and then sends it to the hardware wallet for you to authorize it to sign the transaction. Then the transaction is sent back to your computer and broadcast through your computer.

The hardware wallets generate the addresses. The addresses are generated deterministically from a seed, meaning that the same algorithm is always used and when using the same seed, the same set of addresses are produced. The recovery words are just a representation of that seed.

This sounds like sound advice.

To the OP - once you've got it sorted a lot of us would love to hear your experiences with both, write a review or something.

Some of my bitcoin got double-spent today. No loss from my side, but it certainly freaked me out.
Might have been you.  Roll Eyes

Oh great. All we need is a this shit to spread and bitcoin will be finished. No one is going to use a payment system that has the real threat of inadvertently defrauding users.

What's being done to fix this?

Here's one article about a potential fix: http://bitcoinvista.com/2014/01/18/fixing-double-spending-why-bitcoin-is-revolutionary/
