461  Other / Meta / Re: [Request] 1 Merit to become junior member and access to bounties sub on: August 17, 2018, 07:15:32 PM
What do the people who operate these bounties think of the newbie invasion? Also, people should not be required to post in order to get paid; that's already against the rules.

An idea I had in this vein was that upon registration you'd have to pick one of two paths:
 - "I want to discuss things"
= Banned from all money-making/spam-hotbed sections until Jr Member
 - "I want to make money"
= Banned from the more serious sections until Jr Member
= You have to pass a quiz before posting which tries to inform you about basic forum rules, how not to get banned, maybe some basic English knowledge, etc. (Quizzes are pointless to stop dedicated spammers, since an answer key will quickly be compiled, but it may help in cases where clueless people are ending up here.)
I like this idea, it's nice and easy.

Just cut the forum (virtually) in two:
1) Bitcoin and Altcoin discussion (serious) (gaining activity and merit) and
2) ANN on Off-topic (no additional activity and no merit)

Make the users choose where they want to start to post. A user can only post in only one part, but can change this setting in every 30 days (or 60 days even better). (It's useless for bots and account farmers, they won't wait, they will register accounts for both sections).

So if newbies want, they can participate in any bounty and after if they have read a lot here and are interested in Bitcoin and serious things too, they can change their mind (and their settings too), but I'm afraid classic bounty hunters won't change at all...

This would cause that the serious section won't be spammed with bounty posts/signatures. I don't know if this would be OK for the companies running the bounties for their ICOs, because they will lose the serious part of the forum, their marketing won't reach the serious members of the crypto world (if they care about it at all, maybe they just need to present at the ICO rating websites that they have an active ANN thread in BTT and they have enough posts there daily...)

The serious section would still have the classic signature campaigns with reliable campaign managers, who will take care about the quality.

462  Other / Meta / Re: you are banned from posting or sending personal messages on this forum. on: August 17, 2018, 05:13:40 PM
Yes, I agree. But, Plagiarism, separate tsytats.
but, for that and a forum to read, discuss.

In fact, the forum percent 60 plagiarism.

Is it possible to restore access?
It is good that you admitted that you plagiarized it and that really amounts to the well deserved banning of your account. Sorry to hear that, You still have access to the account but you cannot post just like the past

How did you arrive at 60% plagiarism? So More than half of the posts are plagiarism? I don’t think so.
Maybe it was only a kind of defense, because if more than half of the forum is a copypaste, then his copypaste is just the same what most of the people do here. So, if half of the forum copypastes, maybe mods won't ban the half of the forum, and he could escape this ban...
Text spinning is the next challenge for the forum now, it seems...
463  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fast and key "last-minute" information on: August 17, 2018, 04:53:13 PM
Judging by the information of the Central Bank of Russia, they are not going to introduce free use of crypto currency by citizens if it is concluded that it can not be used as a means of payment, exchange and even storage as a means of accumulating value. That is, if none of the crypto currency functions can be used, this actually means a complete ban on crypto currency in this country. Of course, let's see what law will be adopted about the crypto currency, but I have always been a pessimist in this regard, as long as Putin is in power in Russia.
I don't know the exact context of crypto there but as long as internet is not regulated, you can still manage your cryptos, you only have to travel abroad to use it or to cash out. This won't help the mass adoption of course, but let's hope that this is not the final decision of that country. Countries won't be able to manage a true decentralized crypto, so the can only digitalize their fiat, so the need for a truely decentralized currency would still establish the rule of cryptocurrencies like bitcoin and the other major cryptocurrencies.
464  Other / Meta / Re: Disable delete option from merited post. on: August 15, 2018, 07:16:06 PM
Another option would be the removal of merit which will go back to the sender. But it's much harder to implement I guess. I agree that merit abuse went too far on this forum.

This would be better, but the merit should just be burned and not sent back.

I agree with hillariousandco's suggestion, but there must be some slightest adjustment to make it better because the post deletion can be done by the user or moderator. I suggest the only thing that makes the merits disappear is from the post deletion by the moderators or administrators, because sometimes even a good thread that is filled with merits can be deleted for some legit reasons.
This could be true. But, deleting a good thread which is filled with merits would be one out of the thousand cases, and all the remaining 999 case would mean deleting merits transferred because of abuse.
You can also experience post count decrease and sometimes activity decrease because of the thread/post deletions. Only spammers care about the post count and the activity point, others don't really count their posts on a daily basis... Some time will pass and this will be the case with merits as well, only merit abusers will care about their merit count, other will just look at it once per week/month/year etc...
465  Other / Meta / Re: [Survey] Who has who on its Ignore List? (Second try) on: August 15, 2018, 06:57:49 PM
I'll wait for JetCash's ignore list, but I'm not sure he will release it to the public Smiley
But I know that other legendaries has also huge ignore lists, so after a while we could try to combine these ignore lists into a big one (or everybody can put together his very own ignore lists based on these lists here)

How to spot Rule-Breakers Guide.
Intro : I think it's time for such guide. "Report to moderator" is an option which everyone should use on a daily basis so we can all together reduce the spam and the bot activity in the forum. It will be useful for the newbies too to know what they have to avoid doing in order to stay out of trouble.

I'm not the most skilled and efficient "reporter" that's why I need your help here so I can improve too and everyone can benefit out of it. Hope we can get some Mods on board too.
No more bull#, lets start the serious work.

How to detect rule breakers.

Note > All your conclusions have to be based on the RULES, except for the last point. What to write in your reports you can find in the  [Guide] Reporting effectively written by Welsh, its a MUST READ FOR EVERYONE.

Detecting one-line spammers

  • Simple Techniques :

    • Using Patrol link - this is one of the best tools you can find, gives you view of the last newbie posts from the whole forum. Here is a link to it > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=recent;patrol It is easy to have it listed above your "Watchlist". Just go to your profile page, click on the "Forum Profile Information" and put a tick on "Show patrol link:", btw there you will find another useful option not enabled by default "Show post count by posts:" which I recommend to enable.  Searching through the patrol every now and then is easy to spot one line spammers, most of the time it leads you to our next point.
    • Browsing trough Ann threads - this is really easy, you go to the ANN SECTION you open one ANN page and you check for spam comments. How you determine if a comment is spam I will list in examples sometime soon, for now you can see the next point as reference. When you report you get an accuracy rating.
  • Advanced Techniques :

    • Using the search engine for specific phrases like "good project", "good projekt", "nice project", etc. when you spend some time browsing through the ANN threads you will see a pattern in the spam posts, using all the time the same words and phrases. Those phrases you can use as a keywords in the search engine.
Detecting posts in other languages outside of the Local section

  • This is usually done when you search for homograph cheaters, in the search results often comes multiple messages in Russian or other languages. It is important to exclude the Local sections from the search.

Detecting copy/pasting, plagiarism

  • This is a bit more difficult, if you have the feeling that the guy has copied part of or all in his post then you can easily check the text in google, sometimes you get a 100% copy/paster sometimes, some words a changed but it's still a plagiarism. There should be a source mentioned in the post or the text should be quoted.

Detecting homograph attacks

  • Replacing some letters with the corresponding Cyrillic (or other alphabet) as they are lookalike, know also as homographs is not so difficult to detect as the forum search engine has the feature to search based on a single character. Great, what you do is to enter for example this >
Here is the result with one simple word "the", where "e" is Cyrillic, but you can see it. Try searching for it in the whole forum I you are lucky you may get a result like this

Resources > Cyrillic alphabet, just copy the letters not the codes. http://sites.psu.edu/symbolcodes/languages/europe/cyrillic/cyrillicchart/
Checking for homographs, copy the suspicious text here : https://www.textmagic.com/free-tools/unicode-detector

Detecting ICO pumping/bumping services
  • Those services are trying to keep specific ANN thread on the first page by posting in different forms every single day. I have reported quite some of those rule-breakers but most of the time those a bot accounts. There are different patterns to look for, most of the time are some "conversations" between different users quoting each other but posting only once per day. Usually those are accounts with 30-40 posts and it's really easy to be spotted by checking the post history. They have posts in the same thread every day, sometimes they are pumping more then 2-3 ICO simultaneously.
*See an video example 1

Detecting activity which is not against the rules but is punishable by DT tagging.
  • Reporting account selling Since it's not handled by the mod's and selling accounts it is not against the rules, no need to user "Report to mods" button for it. Buying an account has high risk of getting yourself scammed, also a lot of scammers trying to hide their identity behind an established account with positive trust score. So such (potential) trades are handled by the DTs. Reporting is done here... link
  • Reporting Merit abuse As merit system came, almost everyone is hunting for it. So came the abusers too. If you do not understand the system yet check this link It is not moderated by the forum staff, and again the TD's are taking care of shady merit behavior, like exchange of merit between accounts, meriting low quality posts, trading merit. etc. Reporting is done here Suspected users that are abusing merit 3.0 using a special format
*Report form see in Examples 2
  • Reporting Alt accounts Having an Alt accounts is not against the rules as well, but you have to make it public, like leave a comment in your trust page that you own the accounts, and they are all related. There are specific rules in the most bounty/sig campaigns that you cannot joint with multiple accounts, only one account allowed so if those rules are broken you can report or there is a connection between accounts and its not officially announced you can report it here. Known Alts of any-one - A User Generated List Mk III (2018 Q3)
*Report form see in Examples 3

Additional Resources and tips
Many examples for the above mentioned descriptions can be found in my List of Rule-Breakers. You can use it as a reference until I finish the guide.
  • ModLog. Moderation Activity log
  • SecLog Users change passwords activity log
  • Report History. History of your reports. Note> not everyone has access only those with 300 or more good reports.

This guide is under construction. I just posted in the raw format so I can edit it from everywhere I login Smiley
Hope it will be helpful.

467  Other / Meta / Re: Are these type of troll/spam post in accordance with posting rules? on: August 13, 2018, 12:00:43 AM
As long as such service is allowed1, I don't see how trolling will be stopped even though is number 3 in the list with the rules. It's also pretty subjective matter.

1 - Troll/Shill for Hire. [MY SERVICES]

Must be a troll message/service itself this, i mean who would pay to sabotage a project? Then there is the fact you will be spotted immediately and maybe be able to influence a very small % of it if you are luky. Doesn't make any sense   Huh
Who would pay to sabotage a project?
Maybe who is not interested in the success of the project, e.g. who has a similar project and wants to liquidate the concurrency... or at least, try to make it harder for the competitor to reach the goal...
Just the same situation, like in real life Smiley
468  Other / Meta / Re: New type of off-topic Off Topic bots on: August 12, 2018, 09:40:41 PM
Why do we need an Off-topic section at the first place?
It is not related to the cryptocurrency so there should be the same rules as the Ivory Tower.
Why would you gain activity if you do not discuss anything related to the idea of the forum?

So if we keep the off-topic section there should be new rules like this:

- No designated moderator /OK/
- No post count gain
- No Activity gain
- Posts do not engage the two weeks Activity period.

But keep in mind that all the sh!t happening there will try to find a new place. So next sections are Economics, Bitcoin/Altcoins Discussion boards and the not so popular Local sections with a help of Google translate...

This looks fine, and I think it doesn't need so much coding, so why not to implement these changes immediately?
I know that those shitposts will pop up somewhere in the forum, but this needs time for those spammers to realize that their activity is not increasing, so it won't happen at the same time for every spammer.
Mods will have a little time to adapt to the new situation, and if reporting starts to grow because of that reporting badge, it's possible that mods will be able to handle the new shitposts everywhere...
469  Other / Meta / Re: Sorting System on: August 11, 2018, 02:52:14 PM

Just learn how to efficiently use the search function
or ask for Jet Cash's Ignore List and apply it to your own profile Tongue That could minimize the spam.

This (or similar) was mentioned already:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3628036.0
but nothing happened after, so maybe somehow we could put those ignore lists somewhere, where it's accessible for everyone (maybe on the FitToTalk forum, because it also help newbies to learn how to use bitcointalk...)
There's no solution for the problem of the users who are on the original ignore lists but have improved their posting skills since... so I know it's not a 100% reliable solution, but around 99,9% at least Smiley
470  Other / Meta / Re: Seeking reporter badge images on: August 11, 2018, 05:06:12 AM
It's not a big deal for the bots to create 300-500 spam posts and to report those posts immediately with another bot to get that merit...
It surely will be abused as soon as possible, if it gets implemented....
So not a good idea at all
~

I was talking about small airdrop merit with a snapshot of datas before the start of those badges.
Spammers would expect another round of airdrop sometime in the future, so they will flood the system with fake posts and reports...
They will also expect that the report badge will be useful in the future in connection with merit, so they will prepare their main account to have the necessary amount of reports...
But we'll see
471  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestions to lessen spam accounts on: August 10, 2018, 09:01:54 PM
the current "proxyban" system has done pretty much good job, though it becomes 2 sided bladed
at one side it blocks spammer (evil ip) and on the other side it increases number of unused accounts
you can't really reduce spam accounts by limiting registration time slot and daily cap number
it would just create a new demand and market for non-proxyban newbie account
Wow, I didn't thought that the time will come when even a newbie account will have value if it's clean and if it has successfully passed the registration process...
I've heared that there's a market for high level account, but for newbies...
Restricting lower level accounts from wearing a signature will lower the traffic of the forum as well, so it's not the best idea also...
There's no win-win solution unfortunately...
472  Other / Meta / Re: Seeking reporter badge images on: August 10, 2018, 08:34:06 PM
A good idea can be to reward with airdop merit the start of this thing, to reward users who reported.

No. This would then lead to abuse. People would just report loads of things for the merit and easily rank up their alts this way.

This can be done once when the system of reporters ' icons is introduced (as it was done when merit was introduced).

No abuse of this will arise, and the forum will receive some additional Merit from reporters

Make a single Merit's airdrop for every 300 or 500 good reports
It's not a big deal for the bots to create 300-500 spam posts and to report those posts immediately with another bot to get that merit...
It surely will be abused as soon as possible, if it gets implemented....
So not a good idea at all

474  Other / Meta / Re: New type of off-topic Off Topic bots on: August 09, 2018, 04:53:43 PM
...
We need a mod for off-topic. That should be considered majorly right now.

Poor guy who will get this job...
Being a mod in the off-topic section... kinda mission impossible...

What if we nuke all the topics and posts in the off-topic section, and start with tabula rasa... (because it's off topic, noone really needs those posts...)
If you don't have millions of shit topics, the new mod will at least have a chance to control the new posts...

EDIT:
Also, spammers would scream and shout if they lose the majority of their activity, by losing the posts in off-topic...

475  Other / Meta / Re: New type of off-topic Off Topic bots on: August 09, 2018, 11:42:15 AM
Ha. Doesn't really make sense to me for them to do this. It's far too easy to spot. You'd be better off just copying a post from the same thread, though they usually get caught for doing that as well.

I have previously suggested that all brand new users are essentially shadowbanned until their first post has been approved by a mod. Manually having to approve a user's first post or two will likely stop these bots before they even start and become something we have to deal with any way. We can also just nuke the 'great project' and haiku bots before they become an eyesore.

--------

Off topic but I have 1000 merit now. Wonder if I'll become Legendary now?

#meritruinslives

Shadowban seems fine for the job, there also should be a priority list of threads, where mods check the first 1-2 post of the newbies, and the off topic and ANN should be at the end of that priority list...
This would really stop new spammer account, also it will raise the price of the existing ones...

-------------
Off: Your situation is much better, you have to wait only for the activity lottery Smiley Other hero members could have already reached their magic activity requirement, but because of the merit, they just long for becoming legendary one day...
So you have to wait only max. 7 or 8 activity period, which is only 2 months, that's peanuts Smiley

Had a reply posted on this:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4795993.new;topicseen#new

Now that I try to view it, the thread has disappeared. Can anybody see it or do I just assume it's been randomly deleted? Why though I don't know...

Thanks.
Usually topics are not randomly deleted. If it was a spam megathread, someone has reported it and it has been deleted by the mods.
If you had a post in that thread and you haven't got any notification in your 'My messages' inbox, than a moderator has deleted the whole topic.

I just want to modify a bit:

As for thread that obviously useless or let's just say duplicated by other person then the thread should be lock away...

There is nothing wrong with reporting , since in your line of standards that thread is useless and nonsense then feel free to report , now it's up to the moderator.and other staff to double check and evaluate if the thread is subjected for locking...
Just use the word: 'delete' instead of 'lock' and spammers would care about reporting.
If you just lock a spam megathread, spammers would just lay back and enjoy their work (the spam posts, safely locked in a thread), because they won't lose activity...
If you delete a post (or delete a full spam megathread) spammers lose meaningful amount of posts, so they will care about reporting...

You can check these threads, it's about the same thing:

Auto-lock of topics after a week or 100 posts to solve spammer problem?

please, Please, PLEASE, can the mods start locking old threads.

Mods please lock a thread from 2014

About auto-locking old topics / spam megathreads (again)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4467305.0

It was mentioned several times ago, but nothing happened so far...

My proposal is really simple, auto lock threads after a week despite of the number of the posts and if it's really needed, mods can unlock them...

Also, I would propose not to lock the reported spam megathreads but delete it, that would cause a real pain in the neck for spammers if they lose their posts... (as iasenko has mentioned also)

I doubt we need additional motivation for people who otherwise don't care about the forum enough to report spam. Just like the sig-bounty "motivation" to create shitposts this would just cause new headaches.
People only need another push =] to join the signature campaign you need to have :
      - at least 25 merit
      - a tier 2 reporter badge
Another option is : you will get extra bucks for the previous two!
...
Be cautious with something that can make some extra bucks for the people...
If the second reporter badge will be required for something (joining to campaign, etc.. where they talk about money in the end), people who really want to join, will do everything (legal or illegal) to achieve that 2nd badge...
The easiest way for our much-loved spammers is to create some fake accounts, create around 500 (or 1000, depends on the final decision of the limit) spam posts and report them on the spot... This will give them the second badge and will give the forum another 500 (or 1000) spam posts in various topics.... (and another 500 or 1000 post to check for the mods, who could check other 500 or 1000 real spam post instead...)

This idea has been hashed to death.

Making a "Banned" group would increase the work for the administration team.

We used to have it and moved away when we had members in five digits - now we have seven digits.  :/

How so? It would be automatic and come along with the permabanning.
I don't know how much coding is required for this feautre, but it would worth the effort, that's for sure...
If I know well, people report copypasters, but you cannot decide if a post has already been reported or not. It could save some time and some report for the members who report these kind of stuff.
