Damn it ! I almost crapped my pants when I read the announcement. No more mining for me after block reward halves. Sorry folks. Now for some FUNZ : The smartest move would be to buy shares in BFL Same idea I had. Why not start a mining bond and pwn all the noobs like GIGAMINING ? LOVE seeing butthurt FPGA developers crying. I always said it : FPGA is a joke for mining. Even if you pay it off it is worth $0 afterwards so you barely even break even. As I am something of veteran of press releases I will make a few observations that are odd for press releases.
The first is there is no expected date for products. It's usual to give customers some expectational of when it might be available.
The next observation is it doesn't even give the full name of who released it and even quoted in it. Again something that is normal to do.
Thirdly when VCs are involved it is usual to release who they are and how much they put in.
Now you might also say that I am being self centred on our business interests or even paranoid but the pricing they claim is probably unsustainable even in full ASIC. I could also be wrong about the market size and it might be sustainable. Now you might read think they are doing this to destroy competition and they probably will if their claimed prices and performance are achieved in a reasonable timescale. After the competition is destroyed well prices might then go up an awful lot. That's on the few reasons I can see that they would price this way. Even if they could make them cheap why sell them cheap. They could sell at the same price as us and still win big time and achieve the same.
A more paranoid reason might be a backdoor way to destroy the Bitcoin. I am sure that there are many governmental organisations that might what to achieve this. So being a VC with a relatively cheap investment of maybe a few million dollars would achieve this. It would reveal incomes of tax value much higher than investment andthere are plenty of other reasons as well for them to do that. Of course if it went wrong it's just a private company that did this.

Same thing. Love seeing them getting shafted and coming here whining like a child. FPGA manufacturers crying their useless junk is dying out. Go sell some for financial analysis and Monte Carlo  well.. its only an announcment of how likely its going to cost and how much gh's its gonna give...

For the record if this happens ( and it will, simply because people are stupid ) I will never buy a FPGA or ASIC simply because it is not profitable in any way if you take the time to think about it properly. I will quit mining. GPU or nothing for me. FPGA / ASIC is too much risk. Better buy BTC outright if you have faith but I don't. Most will lose money on this like P4man rightly said. Love seeing fools get robbed. I bet gigavps will be rushing to BFL : "take my $$$ now !!!" I just can not believe this. GPUs are useless, FPGAs are useless before they give me positive ROI.
All the money invested in mining HW will go to BFL. This is a dangerous situation.

Anyways, anything over a .25 increase a month on the major exchanges make me nervous. We, as the bitcoin community, are still suffering social punishment over the $30 peak last year. Now, we deserve all the criticism we got for it, but if it happens again then it would really do some damage to BTC future.
Not really. I can't wait to go to $10 and I bet others who bought last year at like $15 too. For the record, I only bought at $0.58 back in May 2011 and sold at highs. I can only feel sorry for the fools buying at $17 or $15 last year. Can we have another bubble, PLEASE !?  |

Did they wait for you to go to sleep? Seems the pool and frontends are down. More threats coming in, nothing hitting yet. Obviously not very involved in Bitcoin. They seem to think pools make 10x more profit than they actually do. Still stressing that any miners on BTC Guild should have multiple backup pools setup just in case.
haha yea, that was the first thought that came to mind. They do realize you make a whopping 2.5BTC per mined block right? So it is really the users they should be trying to ransom.. I would not be that certain. Say 2 hours for a block then 12 blocks a day then 10 950 BTC a year so at current rates of $6 this dude pockets a NEAT $ 65 700 yearly for doing absolutely nothing except a few maintenace tasks - hosting costs and sitting on his bum all day. Screw the DDOS government idiots but I would not be worried about eleuthria making a killing off miners ... Should check your math against historical data. My income depends on luck. Last month was a LOSS of 672 BTC. Meaning after server costs I lost a total of over 4,500 USD at current rates. Prior months keep it from being too bad, but this pool doesn't make anywhere near what you would think since I eat all luck. Orphans, software glitches, and plain old luck stop the pool from being able to replace a day job. The income is random and not nearly enough to keep me from working. Surprised you say this since Deepbit announced last year they mined like 1 000 000 BTC so with a 3% cut that is 30 000 BTC just on the low fee proportional miners so not bad at all IMHO. |

Anyone taking legal action yet? lets close everyone position when the hack happen and lets mitigate bitcoinica losses and say that we had to close out your position. and we will only release 50% of your claim because we don't even have a backup.
The only people that should be considering this are the people that held USD. Anyone trying to get back one Satoshi will sadly be laughed at. IMPORTANT : did anyone here have BIG USD deposits and did they get them back ? That is the real question before we can determine if legal action is to be carried out here. |
