Apparently, you've missed it - there was an anti-Maidan movement in Mariupol, but it was brutally suffocated by Ukrainian forces in June. Batallion 'Azov' played key role - for those less informed, 'Azov' is notorious Ukrainian paramilitary gang whose mentors are ultra-nationalists

Thanks for the info. Researched, and looks like confirmed. So now the picture is a bit clearer: Putin, who's country is ultra-nationalist and has a whole lot of its own neo-Nazis, tried to destabilize Ukraine with fearmongering propaganda and military support (whom he claimed were "volunteers," but finally admitted were Russian military), but probably didn't count on Ukraine having its own set of ultra-nationalist volunteers to contend with. I guess this war isn't ending any time soon. Probably fine for Putin, as long as no one starts mining that gas in Eastern Ukraine, or let's Ukraine join NATO.

I am not saying that rebels are angels, there are nutjobs within their ranks too but... HRW? Please. It's just a tool in the hands of American administration. They will tell whatever is needed to be told in any given situation. Amnesty International can be pretty biased, but these guys are professional liars.

News source has a story I like? They might be biased, but I believe them!
News source has a story I don't like? Please! They're obviously lying!

Two weeks ago United Nations’ refugee agency stated that the fighting in Ukraine had displaced more than a million people, vast majority of them seeking for shelter in Russia: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/03/world/europe/more-than-a-million-ukrainians-have-been-displaced-un-says.html?_r=0.

I was searching for refugee numbers that moved further into Ukraine, and stumbled onto this:
"At the beginning of August, the United Nations Human Rights Commissioner (UNHRC), estimated that the number of individuals displaced by fighting in the eastern Ukraine Donetsk and Lugansk regions was around 102,600." (http://mobile.businessweek.com/articles/2014-08-28/refugees-from-the-fighting-in-eastern-ukraine-flood-kiev)

This probably refers to just the ones in Kiev, not the total amount, since there are a few articles claiming "almost a million to Russia," but I wonder if that could also just be newspapers reprinting a story they heard from other newspapers. There are news reports of Ukrainian refugees in Lviv and other parts of Ukraine as well (including first hand witness by my Kiev friend who said the schools are overcrowded with refugee kids), but I can't seem to find any numbers on them. Probably for the same reason: they are living with friends or family, and are hard to track, especially when they don't have to cross borders into foreign countries.

You guys need to get your stories straight. You say the only ones left are Aidar Nazis, others are saying Mariupol has lots of Ukrainian army and separatists can't invade, another said NAF was pushed out by Ukrainian army... Please get your lies in order so you don't make up conflicting stories.

The Ukrainian troops currently stationed in Mariupol number somewhere between 4,000 and 6,000. Of them, only a small minority are regular Ukrainian soldiers. The remaining is drawn from various neo-Nazi units such as Dnepr, Donbass, Azov, Krym, Aidar.etc, in addition to the Nazi-majority National Guard.

You obviously don't have any sources on that (except maybe something only from Russia), so I'm just going to call bullshit on that.

Pocket Ninjas.. That's some weird stuff

Seconded for Pocket Ninjas. In college we had a club that would meet once a week to watch really bad movies to make fun of them. We have seen some REALLY bad movies through the years. Pocken Ninjas was by far the worst, and was so horribly bad, that we actually had to stay two hours later in the night and watch a really good movie to cleanse ourselves (we watched "How to Steal a Million" for that)

There was really never a lot of oil going through Iraq

WTF?

Before the Kuwait invasion, Iraq was producing close to 3,000,000 barrels of crude per day, making it the fifth largest oil producer at that time (behind the USSR, KSA, USA and Iran). And almost 90% of this amount was exported, accounting for almost one-tenth of the global crude exports. Do you still stick to your stand that there was never a lot of oil going through Iraq?

You forgot to quote the second sentence

Quote
all the oil that passed through Iraq was produced in the country

Maybe your English isn't as good, but going through is not the same as producing. Russian gas is going through Ukraine. Ukraine is not producing a lot of gas.

First of all, it's probably closer to 1,000 or more, considering the Russian soldier death toll so far. Plus all the trucks, tanks, howitzers, and other military hardware.

Russian soldier death toll? So far not a single Russian soldier on active duty has died in Ukraine. There were some volunteer deaths, but they were mostly from the Ossetians and the Don Cossacks.

If you believe that, then you have to believe that they are all there illegally, and without telling their friends and family, because you have to ask permission from military office to go do that during vacation and the person running that office said she never received any such requests, and I'm sure you have heard about all the Russian mothers complaining about not knowing where their sons were, and only finding out they were in Ukraine after they died. Plus you would have to believe that Russian soldiers who go on vacation can take tanks, trucks, buks, and howitzers with them.

If there were 1,000 Russian soldiers fighting in Ukraine, then the Kiev forces would have lost the entire Donbass region in a matter of days.

If they were fighting against 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers, sure, but they may be fighting against thousands more. And also, taking Donbass may not even be their goal. Just keeping the fighting going is enough to keep Ukraine destabilized and not able to join NATO. Plus you can also win the war by draining Ukrainian army of its resources by slowly harassing them. Just like Iraq insurgency did to the much bigger USA army. Just need enough troops to keep everyone safe and from getting overrun.

Pure curiosity , is there somebody that can post the prices for fresh (not refrigerated) salmon in their countries ?
I'm sure Nemo can give some hint to Norway or Russia prices but the rest?

Picking some at the market yesterday I have a feeling we pay the most.
I paid around 15 euros per kilo at Auchan yesterday.

Fresh as in swimming in an aquarium at the store? Or fresh as in refrigerated, but never frozen?

It is true that Russia is home to tens of thousands of neo-Nazis. But this problem is prevailing there since the breakup of the USSR, which occurred in 1991. But the government is doing all that it can, to reduce these numbers.

If only the Russian government did as much to reduce their numbers as it does to reduce the numbers of gay people

lol... after Ruling Russia for more than a decade, all Putin could get from his countrymen is a measly $150?

There is no doubt that Russia is corrupt. But the fact is Ukraine is even worse.

$150 billion. Yanukovich, who is Putin's friend and puppet, stole $70 billion. When Ukraine's government becomes too corrupt, they rise up and kick then out, as they did with the Orange Revolution and the recent one. So whether it's more or less corrupt (and its corruption was from the Russian influenced side), at least they do something about it. What are Russians doing about their corruption, besides adoring the people robbing them blind?
492  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Could someone provide evidence that the majority of Russians aren't insane? on: September 15, 2014, 01:38:27 AM
That's why I said "culture." Is very comparable to the culture of Atila the Hun mongols, wanting to continuously expand its borders

OK... take a close look.. a very close look at this map.

Now tell me who is stationing troops all over the world and continuously expanding the borders. Or should I give a lecture for you, about the countries which are currently under American occupation (Germany, Japan.etc) ?

Do you have a bigger version of that map with clearly visible country names? I can't tell if the countries with the dots in them are named USA. Just having a military base in a country doesn't mean the country is expanding its borders, since to set up a base you can buy the land and get permission from the government, you can pay the government to lease the land and use it for a base, or, like in some countries, you can even have the country pay you to have your base there and use your army for defense. In none of those cases are you actually required to charge your name to the name of the country with the base, learn their language, or vote for and submit to their presidents or rulers. Note that isn't the case if a country sends an army into your territory without your permission, kicks out your government, annexes you, and starts calling you by their own name. Like what USSR did, and like Russia is trying to with its old republics, most recently with Crimea.

Or is Crimea still part of Ukraine, but just has a Russian military base on it, like America has in Germany?
493  Other / Politics & Society / Re: This is bad: Russia 'abducts' Estonian officer after Obama says US will defend.. on: September 14, 2014, 06:49:48 PM
Pretty sure EVERYONE is talking about the Russian army that Putin admitted were there a few weeks ago.

A dozen or so Russian soldiers, who were stationed near the Russo-Ukrainian border lost their way and ended up in Ukraine.

No, I mean the ones he admitted were fighting alongside the separatists around the end of August.

So tell me, if Russia is going to invade Ukraine, they will do that with just a dozen servicemen? For sure, the Ukrainian army is incapable of fighting against the Russian army. But that doesn't mean that Putin will invade Ukraine with just 10 soldiers.

First of all, it's probably closer to 1,000 or more, considering the Russian soldier death toll so far. Plus all the trucks, tanks, howitzers, and other military hardware.
And second, it depends on what Putin wants. He may want all of Ukraine, which would require him to invade with a much bigger force. Or he might just want the Ukrainian gas fields in Eastern Ukraine, fearing that if Ukraine starts mining them and selling that gas to Europe, Russia will become insignificant and its economy would crumble. He doesn't need many troops for that, just enough to help the separatists control that small amount of territory. Or he may just want to destabilize Ukraine to prevent it from being able to join EU and NATO, and to punish it for kicking out his own corrupt puppet, or to spread enough fear about Ukraine among his own people so that Russians don't kick out their own extremely corrupt rullers just like Ukraine did. That requires even less troops - just enough to sabotage things and kill a few people here and there to keep the anger and fighting up.

In case if you have no idea, mobilization or any usage of armed forces to deal with internal affairs is directly prohibited by ukrainian constitution.

What constitution? You said the Ukrainian government is illegitimate. So no government and no constitution. And if you want to keep governments to a legal standard, start with the Russian government these guys are defending against.

The difference between him and Poroshenko is that Putin wants his country to become stronger, while Poroshenko wants his countrymen to become slaves of the EU.

Actually, the only difference is Ukraine wants to become slaves of EU and russians want to stay slaves of Putin junta. Putin's gang has already stolen $150 billion from Russians, and they still bend over and ask for more. At least being slaves of EU doesn't result in your freedoms being revoked, and your wealth and resources being pillaged by fascust governments.

Note that the only obvious neo-Nazi on this forum, 247crypto, is Russian.

Oh, still, no idea, who are this guys with ethnic hate slogans?

You definitely know your neo-Nazis trivia! Must have spent years learning all about Nazism.
497  Other / Politics & Society / Re: This is bad: Russia 'abducts' Estonian officer after Obama says US will defend.. on: September 13, 2014, 02:51:31 AM
Definitely, Ukrainians would love to see all the Russians on its soil leaving.

If you are referring to ethnic Russians, then more than one-third of the population of Donbass is consisted of ethnic Russians and they have a right to stay there. Whether the Kiev junta wants them out or not, they are going to stay there. And if you are referring to Russian citizens, then no more than one-tenth of the NAF soldiers are Russian citizens.

Pretty sure EVERYONE is talking about the Russian army that Putin admitted were therea few weeks ago.

499  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Could someone provide evidence that the majority of Russians aren't insane? on: September 13, 2014, 02:41:31 AM
You mean them mostly being of Mongolian descent or culture

The amount of Mongolian blood present among the ethnic Russian population is minuscule, especially when compared to the Crimean Tatar - Nogay blood which is prevalent among the Ukrainians as a result of the slave raids and subsequent enslavement. That said, we were not talking about the racial origins of Russians and Ukrainians. If you want to do that, then go to Stormfront.

That's why I said "culture." Is very comparable to the culture of Atila the Hun mongols, wanting to continuously expand its borders, pilage other countries and even their own people (Putin's gang stole $150 billion from Russians), the crazy dangerous amounts of nationalism (Putin's 87% approval rating and Russia having more neo-Nazis than any other county), general lack of empathy for those they take over and opress, and apathy for the ones doing atrocities in their name, and the seemingly constant search for enemies to hate and be against (did you know the rest of the world, and even America, didn't think much of Russia for the last few decades, and even considered them an ally, even while Russia considered "the west" as its imperialistic enemy?)
500  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Donetsk, Kharkov, Lugansk - way to Russia. on: September 13, 2014, 02:30:01 AM
I'm sure Kiev would like to capture and prosecute those criminals, but it's a bit busy right now fighting the Russians.

blah..blah....blah....

Poroshenko would surely love to prosecute the Aidar battalion, which is his most important fighting unit in the Donbass. Most of the regular army units have either deserted or taken out.

You guys need to get your stories straight. You say the only ones left are Aidar Nazis, others are saying Mariupol has lots of Ukrainian army and separatists can't invade, another said NAF was pushed out by Ukrainian army... Please get your lies in order so you don't make up conflicting stories.
