The small fee is the "0.5% Local Trader Commission" in the My Info section?

Correct, though we have not settled on a fee yet.
962  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Atheism does not exist on: March 07, 2014, 06:16:23 AM
Atheism isn't a believe in the non-existence of god, it is saying "I don't believe you when you claim that god exists, because you don't have any evidence."

That's all.

Simply untrue.

Check with any dictionary, and you'll discover that "Atheism" does indeed mean that you don't believe God exists... as Webster's puts it:

a :  a disbelief in the existence of deity
b :  the doctrine that there is no deity

I disagree, however, that there's anything wrong with believing in the non-existence of something. (Not that I'm an Atheist, mind you!)

What's the difference between "I don't believe that god exists" and "a disbelief in the existence of a deity?"
963  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Meanwhile in Ukraine... Revolution. on: March 07, 2014, 04:53:42 AM
Yanukovich was elected legitimately. Do you have any proof of any sort of voter fraud?

Even the EU / US observers certified that the elections were devoid of fraud.

Yanukovish won in 2004, but the legitimacy of the election was questioned by many Ukrainians, international organizations, and foreign governments following allegations of electoral fraud.

However, you are right, his 2010 election was apparently fair, so I'm wrong and withdraw my claim.
964  Economy / Economics / Re: A Resource Based Economy on: March 06, 2014, 04:43:12 AM
We need at least some rules that we can't commit to using just technology. We have to hire some kind of guardian just to enforce the rule about most people being uncoerced most of the time.  And the hell of that is the job can only be done BY coercion of those who would otherwise freely choose to point guns at someone and demand sexual favors on pain of death for refusing. T

We can distribute/decentralize uncoersion through assassination markets, or private bounties on screwing someone else's property, and distribute defence by normalizing gun ownership and auto defense systems. It would add very real costs to being more coersive than someone else.
965  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How 'Anonymous' is Bitcoin? on: March 06, 2014, 04:38:33 AM
I wonder. To track bitcoin, especially if things like Tor and CoinJoin are used, you need quite a few resources, on the level of the NSA. On the other hand, if AnonyMint's prophesized economic devastation happens, maybe by bitcoin itself starving governments of tax revenue, that would mean that economy collapsed, along with governments, and there is no money to extract from citizens to pay for such a program. So wouldn't Bitcoin's anonymity be asured by bitcoin itself as it cuts off the flow of funds to the very thing that has any chance of breaking its anonymity?
966  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Meanwhile in Ukraine... Revolution. on: March 06, 2014, 04:24:22 AM
Note that during this whole process Russia was not involved - it were only EU/US politicians shuttling to and from Maidan, giving speeches there, escalating the situation.

I would ask for some sources on this, since this is the first time I hear of that, but after reading the rest of your crap, it's not worth it. I'd rather take my news from the person who was actually there on Maidan through most of it (my childhood friend), than some regurgitated Russian propaganda.

And that you think Yanukovich was elected legitimately, or was a democratic president, pretty much seals the fact that you have no clue about what's really going on there.
967  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [ANN] Mycelium Local Trader will let anyone be an ATM on: March 06, 2014, 04:16:51 AM
Hi, just got the update for Mycelium Testnet, and it looks awesome.

Do you have any technical details how the fund release is handled? Is it just straightforward within the client, or is there any escrow involved?

No escrow. Just directly wallet to wallet, with a small fee to Mycelium for the service.
968  Other / Off-topic / Re: Since my last post, we were almost killed due to some NIGGER! on: March 06, 2014, 04:15:19 AM
Second, I'll let you give me three hits, then I get one. Are you ok with this old man?

I know for a fact that Phinneas is not racist, or a bigot of any kind. On the other hand, otrkid70 and Bobsurplus seem to be a bit racist in their own way, and we now know for a fact that Bobsurplus is ageist.

what a day 1  Shocked Grin

I cannot believe that BFL was there.... and so was Josh. Undecided

Too bad we can't tell who's who in person. Look for me tomorrow DM, I'll be sitting on the merchant's panel and I've been hanging out with one of the Bees Brothers and their dad.

I'll be wearing a Mycelium t-shjirt. Only got to my hotel Wednesday at 7pm. Wondering if anything interesting is going on tonight, or if I should just work and prepare for tomorrow.... :p
970  Other / Politics & Society / Re: “White Men, Everyone Else”: Women’s Media Center’s Sexist Report on: March 05, 2014, 06:46:35 AM
I don't hear anyone bitching about men being under represented in the ranks of sales clerks in women's bikini sales sections of department stores.

Can I bitch about men being severely underrepresented in the Swimsuit edition of Sports Illustrated?
971  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Think Progress believes Bitcoin is racist.. on: March 05, 2014, 06:19:12 AM
Yeah...no. Bitcoin is used by computer nerds. Computer nerds are mostly while males. Here, they just happen to be libertarian computer nerds, or computer nerds whom Bitcoin converted to libertarianism (like me). I think it's computer nerds who are racist  Grin

"Peaceful fighters for freedom" (Right sector) invades to local parliament and threaten people.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fKIq8fE1CE

This is what democracy US supports.

Oh no! They're... They're... TALKING! I'm sure that's against the Geneva Conventions somewhere...

Seriously, dude, stop it with the stupid propaganda. Ukrainians protested because their government was becoming a dictatorship, not because they wanted to start up a fascist state. That's what Russia is working on.
973  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Project Bitcoin Update: Selling Paul Revere Owned Statue for Transaction #7 on: March 05, 2014, 06:04:37 AM
Does the statue have any information about the name or a sculptor? It looks familiar, though a smaller reproduction maybe.

where is everyone staying as far as in lodging?

Way the hell down in San Marcos, because Austin is stupid expensive. Saved about $200 flying into San Antonio instead of Austin, too.

Also! HOLY CRAP! Am I going to finally meet Emperor Goat in person?
975  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Meanwhile in Ukraine... Revolution. on: March 04, 2014, 04:56:19 AM
If I had been in Obama's place, this is what I would have proposed. Opinions?

If Putin really is only interested in peace, how about US making it a joint effort and sending their own troops to stand and protect alongside the Russian troops. Not in a different area, where there will be tensions between areas protected by Russia and areas protected by US, but right in the exact same areas? Where the troops can mingle, talk, get to know each other, etc. If there is an actual threat of muslim uprising or Ukrainians attacking Russians, there will be more troops on the ground to keep the peace. Putin will get to feel vindicated about being right with regards to the claims about threat to his people, while being in a position of not being able to escalate to a war, with opposing troops being right there. And the actual troops will get to know each other and maybe build some comraderrie, which will hopefully keep them from wanting to shoot each other. At worst, US will have to admit that they just didn't see the possible threat to peace that Putin did.

Hi Dmitry,

My organization has been fundraising to conduct the first-ever national study on street harassment and we are set to work with the top surveying firm GfK to see this happen in a few days! They will survey 2000 nationally representative people across the country.

I have also self-financed focus groups across the country to hear stories from various demographics, including queer women of color in NY, Native Americans in SD, Latinas in FL, men in the LGBQT community in D.C., women harassed in cars in CA, women harassed on bikes in PA.

The data from the survey are sorely needed and can add more legitimacy to our work to address it and better understanding about what it entails.

All of the information will go into a research report that our volunteers nationwide will take to educators, policy makers, and law enforcement, to raise their awareness about the issue. I've given nearly 200 media interviews on this topic and, using my media contacts, I know the study will make big waves in the media and can bring a lot more attention to the issue.

We are in a final fundraising push to be able to have funds to pay for things like infographics and printing of the report and a donation of $1000 could help us get there!

I am happy to provide more information via email or by phone -- and also want to know if SSH could be helpful to BitCoin100 in return.

Thanks!

Hi Rassah,

I’m currently working with 3 organizations but I’ll need some guidance from you to know if they qualify. Only one has their 501(3)(c) status.

http://www.createfixate.com  501(3)(c) EIN: 26-2431218
Helps emerging artists and at risk youth in L.A.

http://www.juliabutterfly.com
Julia spent 2 years in a redwood tree to bring awareness to the effects of deforestation in the American Northwest.

http://sarisak.com
Sarisak seeks to bring awareness to the damage caused by overused plastics. Sarisak recycles used Sari’s from rural india and channels proceeds back to the communities themselves.

I’d be happy answer more questions if needed. Please note, these organizations do not currently accept BTC on their websites yet.

Thanks,
Gary

Cool Joliet (cooljoliet.org) is an environmental organization in Joliet. I will be talking with them today about taking bitcoin donations on their website.
The advantage of the cool joliet website is access to colleges and universities in the area. We'll be starting cool joliet back up in the Spring. It was way too cold this winter to do anything else.
Anyway I will let you know what the powers that be of CJ say about allowing me to set up a btc donation portal on the website.
Another thing we're talking about today is Cool Joliet setting up a tool lending library in collaboration with a food bank.

...

This is an adaption of the Chinese proverb; "Give the woman a fish and she eats for a day. Teach her how to fish and she eats for a lifetime - and she teaches her children how to fish."

We will develop a prototype garden, enroll at least 5 carefully chosen families and measure the result.

If there could be one family in each organization that does this then it could change the face of food banks around the u.s. It won't work for every family but for some it is the just the information that they needed. It gives the family suffering from today's joblessness the ability of "doing it for themselves."
People don't know how to grow their own food. We show them.
People don't have the tools to garden with? They don't need them.
The needs are container, dirt, seeds, fertilizer, water.

http://cooljoliet.org/

Whether we get the donation from your organization or not we will be moving on this project. It will definitely make our progress faster with the donation.

I've already made an application with BitPay and I'll be putting a btc donation button on our website tonight.

Hope all is well with you through the Gox shakedown.

Gini

I personally don't see any problems with this one, and it's from someone we have already worked with before. But as a formality, I would still like others to check it before I just send the money.

Hi Dmitry,

I just wanted to take a moment to introduce you to Heather Jewell, who works at Meal Exchange here in Toronto, a charity that is doing great work around eradicating hunger in Canada via creative and innovative student engagement on campuses across the country. They reached out with an interest in Bitcoin and of course, since you manage the Bitcoin100.org initiative, thought that I would make an introduction.

Heather, Dmitry oversees the Bitcoin100 and we had a chance to meet in person recently in Toronto and he graciously volunteers his time to administer the project. From here, just let Dmitry know that you're interested, along with a link to the Meal Exchange site and let him know that you are looking to implement it within your organization. As I mentioned, if you need any help around the implementation, just let me know!

All the best

Hi Dmitry,

It's nice to virtually meet you.

As Jason explained, my organization, Meal Exchange, is a registered Canadian charity that is interested in accepting Bitcoin donations. Jason has been kind enough to show us the way. We think it's something that will resonate with our younger donors. We currently only accept credit card donations online (http://mealexchange.com/take-action/donate.html).

We will soon be implementing donations via Bitcoin and would greatly appreciate being considered for a donation from Bitcoin100. It's my understanding that to be considered you verify that we currently do not accept Bitcoin, we get set up to do so, and then confirm with you that we are now accepting donations. Is this correct?

If there's any other information I need to provide you, I'd be happy to do so, just let me know.

Thanks,
Heather

Hey,

I have a local non-profit that I volunteer for that I have almost convinced to add a bitpay button on their donation page. If I can make this happen what if any funds can they expect from this initiative?

The organization: "We are a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the sheltered homeless and others whose incomes are below the poverty level find and keep satisfying work."

I have been volunteering for 6+ months and they do a fantastic job.

Thank you for your help,
Andrew

The nonprofit has to be secular, nonpolitical, a charity (or organization that helps people or animals), is well established (been around for a while), was not accepting bitcoin until very recently, and is not being run by someone who is already into bitcoin.
If they qualify, and add bitcoin as a donation option to their website, we'll send them $1,000.

Isn't Bill Cosby racist too then? Also who was that black comedian or celebrity who made the exact same point, that there are some black people who are dragging down their entire culture by being freeloading morons, calling them niggers too? Anyone remember?
980  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet on: March 02, 2014, 06:27:02 AM
why does the bitcoin wallet page saying using mycellium relies on the trust of a third party?

aren't the private keys controlled locally on the app? i.e. no trust in a third party involved

Yes, the keys are controlled by the wallet locally on the app. The third party here is the Mycelium servers that store the blockchain these wallets rely on. The only thing our "third party" does is fetch your wallet's balances, broadcasts your wallet's transactions, and some other minor administrative stuff. It doesn't control your keys in any way, and at worst can break and make your wallet stop working, in which case you would just move your keys to a different wallet.
