4941  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are you currently holding stablecoins(USDT, TUSD, etc)? Think again. on: November 24, 2019, 07:20:51 AM
The possibility of your assets getting frozen is quite unsettling for holders of any currency and shows how centralized such coins really are. They primarily function as fiat currencies which are run in the blockchain and adhere strictly to all regulatory laws.
An article I found also claimed that some addresses have actually been frozen holding assets of about $41 million

The blog also said that while blacklist functionality exists for most stablecoins, “we can only find it having been used on USDT for 16 different addresses.” The study noted 7 frozen addresses for USDT–Bitcoin which accounted for $39,404,629 and 8 of the frozen addresses for USDT-Ethereum worth $1,959,156.10.

The exact reason as to why these funds were frozen was unclear
And the exact reason for the freeze was not made public. In my opinion the demerits of stable coins outweigh the merits.
4942  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2019/20 on: November 24, 2019, 05:47:57 AM
I also think that hosting the Supercup of a nation in the middle of the season and in another country doesn’t make a whole lot of sense but that is just Spanish Soccer Association decided it.I don’t think it will have the interest that we are used to see when the Supercup is host locally and played in Spain.
Globally I think it would have the same interest as when it is hosted by a Spanish team. The local fans will be aggrieved about having to travel to another continent to watch the Spanish cup but fans in Asia won't be complaining. The entire process seems financially motivated as the Saudi Arabian government looks to make more inroads in sports and possibly make it a major source if revenue as it is in Europe.

An El classico final is possible but not certain, both teams have been far from convincing this season and would have to dig deep over two legs to reach the last stage.
4943  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Important Warning Blockchain Email Hacker "BIoϲkϲhain Reϲeived" on: November 24, 2019, 05:31:02 AM
I made a thread recently with suggestions on how to protect your email privacy and to prevent yourself from failing a victim to email targeted scams: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5202634.msg53116803#msg53116803
It's almost impossible to maintain total privacy but you can manage your accounts to easily identify scam attempts.
4944  Other / Meta / Re: Stats of artists who received at least 1 merit from the 10th art contest on: November 23, 2019, 04:40:34 PM
Maybe the intended rank will receive more BTC than the other lower ranks.
I have no idea what you mean by, the intended rank, but the contest is purely based on the creativity and execution of the presented art not the rank of the users involved. Hence the contest was opened to every member of the forum.
4945  Other / Meta / Re: BTC forum account hacked on: November 23, 2019, 08:19:12 AM
This is probably the second account hacked claim that I've read but there were no pw changes. Here's the other one https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4932173.0
This case looks more like a troll who may be trying to get someone's account locked.
This is one of the reasons account sales are highly discouraged, asides the fact that it gives a false impression of the account t owner and the trust ratings/merit score do not reflect the new owner of the account and anyone dealing with the account is at risk, the original account owner can come back months or years later to reclaim their account using a signed message or the original email used to register it.
4946  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [GUIDE] Overview of the trust flags on: November 23, 2019, 06:01:47 AM
I think you can clarify a bit better which flags can be used and when. For instance that certain flags can only be used for contract violations and that incorrect use of flags is considered abuse.  Even accidental misuse or support of inaccurate flags can result in consequences.

I included that in the OP,  the images between must have made it a little bit obscure, I'll increase the size of the text slightly.

4947  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: November 23, 2019, 05:33:50 AM
...
The could both drop two points if the match ends in a draw, and I think that would favour Liverpool more as they would move further away from both teams should they win their next fixture. Liverpool would need to focus on their trip to Selhurst park to face Crystal Palace who are the second lowest scorers in the league.
Would be interesting to see how many points would be between the top teams at the end of today.
4948  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you have control or not? on: November 22, 2019, 09:20:14 PM
therapy can also help, of course.
Therapy is an important aspect of curing an addiction, and gambling addiction is similar to any other kind, and should be handled as such. Anyone addicted to gambling should seek professional advise to cope with it. Gamble responsibly and only with cash you can afford to lose.

I do not think there's space for such sentiments when managing a team as large as Manchester United with one of the biggest fan bases in the world all demanding the absolute best out of the club. If Ole is left at the wheel it is because the clubs management believes be still has something to offer or the desired replacement is not yet available. After series of hits and misses with managers, they have to get it right with Ole or their next manager otherwise the fan base would lose more faith in the board to pull the team back to the top.

...
As much as possible, avoid logging in your email on an external device, when on your own device, even with a public WiFi, you shouldn't need to log in as your details are already saved.
I also support changing of passwords every few months, maybe biannually to ensure the safety of their accounts.
4952  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Focus game: EPL, matchweek 13, Man City VS Chelsea on: November 21, 2019, 10:31:09 AM
City is in Manchester, while Chelsea is in London, so it's hardly a derby match, it's still a very tough fixture notwithstanding, both teams are the most successful English teams of the past decade and both have shown good form this season.
The creativity of Bernado Silva would be missed by City, both they would be hopeful their squad and fans could get them all three points. They are also boosted by the return of Brazilian keeper Erderson to training.
It would all come down to who wants it more as the battle for top four begins to take shape and also the order of the teams.
4953  Other / Ivory Tower / Discussion on the origin of the Ivory Tower on: November 21, 2019, 05:17:13 AM
This thread is for discussion, and also to correct or validate some historical facts. If it's not fit for this section, I'll have it locked.

There are are many historical paths to the origin of the Ivory Tower and it's being a representation of an elite coterie. One of them can be traced to the origin of malaria:
The word malaria is gotten from two Italian words, 'mal' and 'aria' and it literally translates to bad air. In the early days, it was associated with the air which was thought to be the vector and wet grounds the source of the epidemic. To escape the disease, the elite group built ivory towers to escape the wet grounds and be at a height where they can breathe clear air. They were not entirely wrong and the towers provided a sort of protection from the outbreak. Until science disproved the bad air theory and identified mosquitoes as the source.

Could this be likened to what the Ivory Tower here on BT represents, an elite group created to escape the spam and bad air nearer to the ground?
There are many theories to the origin of the phrase Ivory Tower and it's representation, which do you accept?
Where would you rather be, at the top of the tower or the lower grounds?
4954  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: November 21, 2019, 04:42:50 AM
New poll up.  Please vote or vote 'other' and post which club itt if you don't think it's either United or Real.  Poch is like the hottest managerial prospect in Europe right now.
At the point Mourinho was sacked, him managing Spurs was not predictable. They reached the final of the champions league and secured a top-four spot although they had a shaky finish to the EPL. In the vein, the club Pochetino manages next would be totally unexpected. Teams like PSG, Barcelona and Bayern could be available at some points this season or during the next summer break. I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Arsenal being his next destination.
4955  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Profile Trust +0 / =0 / -0 on: November 21, 2019, 04:23:40 AM
I did a thread about trust flags sometime ago and discussed little on the original trust system, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5156835.msg51544945#msg51544945
Trust ratings are used to reflect the overall reputation and trustworthiness of a user, it previously also covered scams but trust flags replaced that. Only trust ratings from DT members and those in your custom trust list is reflected on the profile you're viewing, check out this thread on how to do that: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5096348.0

Just to note, after the modification, trust score systwas dropped and now we have distinct numbers for every feedback.
4956  Other / Meta / Re: sardasa account hacked yesterday on: November 20, 2019, 04:27:49 PM
...
Did you change your email and password after the first hack to log out any existing access to the account? And did you sign a message to an address linked to the account? That would speed up the process of recovering the account.
I'll advise you avoid phishing links and clone websites of bitcointalk, also do not log in on many devices.
*Edit: just checked at bpip and it shows you did reset the password after the last recovery.
4957  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What are the Bigdogs doing with Crypto or are they still in old school markets? on: November 20, 2019, 04:14:04 PM
Considering Bitcoin, the big dogs are probably looking for better ways to control and manipulate the price, and those that have confidence in the underlying technology are increasing their stash of coins in preparation for a price spike.
Events over time has shown that manipulating the price of Bitcoin is unpredictable and could easily backfire and lead to huge losses, so as a whale I would capitalize on any price drop and increase the number of bitcoins I hold, there is a limited number and I will want to hold as much as possible.
4958  Other / Meta / Re: The inclusion of large, unnecessary images in threads. Opinions? on: November 20, 2019, 03:41:34 PM
Just checked the poll and majority of people do not give a shit and want people to post the way they want.
In my opinion it is subjective to the topic at hand, infographics with useful information are acceptable. Decorative photos can be okay if it does not clog the post and make it difficult to pick out the actual words. Large embedded images should only be used sparingly and the resolution should not frustrate the loading of a page.
Quoting images of even a large block of text is always unnecessary and makes any thread untidy.
4959  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: November 20, 2019, 11:06:48 AM
Now that Mourinho has been appointed manager of Tottenham will they really be contesting for a top 5 finish?
If they boost their squad as I expect they would, yes. The season is far from over, and there  are a couple of teams in the  current top six who can have  a change of form at anytime in the season. Mourinho would offer a lot in terms of transfer management and he is known to introduce his type of players into his team.
He is the special one and would not want to get sacked again, so I'm sure he'll have secured a couple of deals behind closed doors before signing the deal.
Do you think Mou would last longer than three years at Tottenham?
4960  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as a World Reserve Currency Could Help Bolster the US Dollar on: November 20, 2019, 08:40:14 AM
Does it benefit the United States to have the dollar as the world’s reserve currency?
The United States would definitely want the USD to remain as the reserve currency of the world and wouldn't want to trade that for any other fiat or cryptocurrency. We saw that in how the US fought against Libya making gold their reserve currency. The power nations would engage in a tussle for control of Bitcoin should it ever become the generally accepted currency.
