@Lucius. I reckon not only in America, in China, Russia, Israel, Singapore and many other countries can label your address as bad and would threat exchanges to have their licenses removed if they do not deny bad wallets.

@Betwrong. Agreed, ethically the government should not label any address as bad without proof, however, we cannot trust them to act ethically all of the time. They can assume or imply that your coins are dirty, declare it in public and tell exchanges to deny you.
In transparent blockchains, we can be considered guilty until we can prove our innocence by ourselves.

Bitcoin doesn’t need an ETF to succeed further & to be honest I’ve given up hope of one being approved any time soon. Governments are afraid of bitcoin so they’re not going to do anything that’ll help it gain further adoption & credibility. I got my hopes up a lot over the years about various ETF applications & every single one has been put in the bin.

I guess it depends on which tiers emerge if this ever become a thing. There may be 'investment grade' which never leaves its custodians, then there'll be active mode which moves through exchanges and payment processors but will be easy to fall out of favour with, and then there'll be fuckhead mode which is for druggists and nonces and everyone else. If none of them can interact with each other the whole thing is going to become a crippled mess, but I expect someone to get a brutal schooling before it gains a foothold. However, when a large amount of bitcoins never leave the control of its custodians, it would open an argument that it might be failing. That is why I would also argue that grin's monetary policy might be a fix for this. |
