@Viscore. Save your bets for the good games tomorrow hehehe. Playoff teams, Rockets versus the Clippers and the Nuggets versus the Celtics.
5942  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The Essential NFL Thread 🏈🏈 - new poll every week on: November 22, 2019, 12:50:39 AM
@vella85. I will take the same bet on the Colts, +2.5 1st half hehe. I read an article that the Houston Texans have not won versus the Colts in 5 years. If they might win today, they might not cover the spread on the 1st half.
5943  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-11-18] Russian Intelligence FSB Linked to $450 Million in Missing Bitcoin on: November 21, 2019, 02:30:01 AM
I will not go into any conspiracy theories (at least not too much), but it seems to me that there is much more to this story than can be read publicly. If the FSB got involved in everything, then there was a good reason. Did they just decide to be good guys and stop some illegal activity, or they didn't give FSB their share of the cake? I only wonder how the BBC got the audio recordings on which they base this story, again the clumsy job of Russian secret agents?

The FSB might also be the exchange's main liquidity provider by sending their dirty money to the exchange for laundering.

I speculate that when WEX have begun having problems on their cashflow or maybe the FSB knew that WEX will be shutdown by regulators, the FSB ordered their money out including everyone's money.
5944  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: November 21, 2019, 01:57:27 AM
Rumble Johnson is in the news. We might have a new heavyweight champion on December 2020 if he wins his opening fight for his return in the UFC hehe.

I speculate that his return fight might be versus Francis Ngannou.

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson has a plan for his return to the Octagon, and it’s short and sweet.

Johnson has expressed interest in returning to the UFC. Back in 2017, Johnson announced his retirement following a second loss to then-UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier. “Rumble” is now shooting for a spring return in the heavyweight division, although now it could be pushed back to summer.

Having a plan of action is rarely viewed as a negative thing but when it’s as terrifying as Johnson’s, many of his potential opponents may choose to take a powder. Speaking to The Mac Life, “Rumble” made it clear that he’s looking to rearrange some faces (via MMAFighting.com).

“We have to meet with the UFC some more,” Rumble said. “We have to go over things and just figure some stuff out but it’s all looking good so far. Nothing bad. I don’t want to put my foot in my mouth and say too much but everything’s looking good right now. I’m not worried.

“I was trying to shoot for April/May but maybe June/July. We’ll see. But whenever I come back I’m going to make sure it’s known. I want to come back and showcase everything and fight and just hurt people.”

@wheelz1200. I like the 49'ers -3. I am gambling, this is versus Greenbay hehehe.

I also like Seattle +2.5, because Russ Wilson, everyone's MVP, is playing good and also the Ravens -3.5, but because Lamar Jackson, my MVP, is playing better hehe.
5946  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2019-2020 betting on: November 21, 2019, 01:00:42 AM
Kawhi and Paul George will be available for the Clippers. Can they beat the spread -7 versus Boston, however? I reckon it might be a very close fight between the 2.

My confirmed bets are the Nets -2 1st half, Rockets 1st half moneyline and Raptors -4 full game.
5947  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Grin Observer - GRN/BTC - Price Movement and Discussion on: November 20, 2019, 04:06:45 AM
@suchmoon. Also, Zcash and Monero were mentioned and compared as better for privacy. Which is true, however, this exposes his bias and what he might be holding hehehe. No one from the Grin development team claimed better privacy.

Also, writing it after a 2011 miner donated 50 bitcoins from a coinbase transaction hehe.
5948  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [NEWS] Gatehub was hacked again on: November 20, 2019, 03:31:40 AM
This is a warning for XRP holders. You should stop using Gatehub. They were already hacked months before with almost $10 million stolen. The people behind this are clearly very incompetent.

However, the skeptical me would think that there was more that occured behind this hack hehehe.

Password data and other personal information belonging to as many as 2.2 million users of two websites—one a cryptocurrency wallet service and the other a gaming bot provider—have been posted online, according to Troy Hunt, the security researcher behind the Have I Been Pwned breach notification service.

One haul includes personal information for as many as 1.4 million accounts from the GateHub cryptocurrency wallet service. The other contains data for about 800,000 accounts on RuneScape bot provider EpicBot. The databases include registered email addresses and passwords that were cryptographically hashed with bcrypt, a function that's among the hardest to crack.

The person posting the 3.72GB Gatehub database said it also includes two-factor authentication keys, mnemonic phrases, and wallet hashes, although GateHub officials said an investigation suggested wallet hashes were not accessed.

5949  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] AEON [2019-09-27: Upgrade to version 0.13.0.0 ASAP HF@1146200 Oct 25] on: November 20, 2019, 02:55:21 AM
@bigslimvdub. Where is the new negative sentiment coming from? Aeon has always been a small project and will always be a small project. What were you expecting?

I don't recall mentioning "new" negative sentiment. It's pretty much been the same deal for a long time now (pre rebase debacle).

Small project yes, but how can this project "be a replacement for bitcoin" while being a small project this late in the game? Nobody has explained how it could even be possible that such a small project that has been around 5 years, a market rank of #300+, 80%+ emissions, and about 10 active social community contributors overtake the top cap cryptocurrency in the world?
You can't do this by just being easy to run a node for the next 20 years. Not saying it is not possible but its literally like climbing Mt. Everest with shorts and flip flops.

I'm also a little surprised the net hash for Monero has been pretty stable since the last hardfork, about 300Mh or so. Interesting that they are moving to randomX pow with this stable network hash rate. Either Asic devs held off and went all-in on RandomX design or they just gave up on Monero for now.

I did not receive this mission statement for Aeon to be a replacement for bitcoin. Who gave it to you?

In any case, I am here because I like Aeon as my hobby and because I reckon it is a neat project without corrupted individuals.

Just a heads up guys, it is not a good Idea to be Holding right now.

Grin still affords a stronger privacy model than Bitcoin or other non-privacy coins, since amounts are safely encrypted. But Mimblewimble provides a strictly weaker privacy model than Zcash or Monero. This makes it insufficient for many real-world privacy use cases.

This is not FUD, just a heads up. I'm sure the Devs will address the issue if its possible.

I havn't spent any time in looking into this but wanted to give you guys a heads up asap.
Thanks to cAPSlOcK for pointing this out.

Just so you all know and don't get blind sided.

@stadus. Yes the win from the Bucks is already on the Clippers full game -7.5 versus OKC hehehe. Kahwi will again not play, but Pat Beverly is back and Paul George destroyed the Falcons with 37 points. I reckon good chance the Clippers will beat -7.5.
5952  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The Essential NFL Thread 🏈🏈 - new poll every week on: November 19, 2019, 02:08:40 AM
@rdbase. I do not know how loved Philip Rivers is, however, the Chargers are sentimental on his retirement and they might be inspired by this.

Those articles on the Chargers and Rivers might also be clickbait hehehehe.
5953  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2019-2020 betting on: November 19, 2019, 01:52:29 AM
@cryptoaddictchie. However, the Celtics will have a harder game to play 2 days after versus the Clippers and they already lost versus Sacramento. Will they rest some players under load management for this game hehehe? Celtics is +3.5.

I bet on the Bucks -3.5 1st half. Another mistake. I hope my Rockets bet will beat the -6 spread.
5954  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The Essential NFL Thread 🏈🏈 - new poll every week on: November 19, 2019, 01:35:19 AM
who do you guys like for today's matchup?
Chiefs, they need the win since they're on a bye next week and this is a division game as well it might get close but I think Chiefs won't let this one go through easily. They already had a few losses recently and if they lose this one the Raiders have a good chance to take their first spot in the division.

I also have the Chiefs. But -3 on the 1st half, however. This is beginning to appear like a mistake hehehe. I should have taken the full game -4 for almost the same odds.
5955  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Grin Observer - GRN/BTC - Price Movement and Discussion on: November 18, 2019, 03:55:47 AM
I'm not sure I like the narrative that Satoshi supports or is behind Grin's development donations.

Although this makes sense:
Transaction security depends on how much is received by miners in a block. When issuance has reached the limit, I reckon paying high fees for secure transactions will only encourage users to use an altcoin. This will also cause miners to leave because the people that pay them have gone and the issuance in the block as payment for them are gone.

This doesn't:
However, it is a bitcoin replacement. It is a replacement for all cryptocoins that will become insecure when their coin issuances have reached their limit.

You are speculating that in a few years, when 95% of BTC has been mined, somehow Grin will replace it, and all alt coins including BTC will be pegged to Grin?
Or that Grin will be adjusted somehow to act as a 2nd layer solution to BTC?
What happens to BTC/BTC price then is my real question - since you mentioned the word, replacement.

Those quotes' arguments are similar.

It might take longer after all the bitcoins have been mined, however, yes I speculate that Grin will be seen as a replacement for bitcoin for cryptocoin storage and transactions. Grin's monetary policy assures that its security is sustainable.
5956  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-11-12] Bitcoin Mining IPO Could be the New Gold Rush on: November 18, 2019, 03:18:03 AM
At least GPU manufacturers can treat it as a side show though I wonder what their feelings are about being encroached on so violently by a market they had no plans to cater for.

encroached on? increased demand seems like a good problem to have, even if market demand is more volatile. the 2016-17 bull market was a massive boon for companies like NVIDIA and AMD.

Also do not forget that everything does not depend on bitcoin. The risk of owning a stock would also depend on how well the Asic manufacturer's performance is as a company.

The health of the company is solely based on Bitcoin. If Bitcoin isn't going up, there is no real demand for additional mining gear. If there is no demand for additional mining gear, the company stock is worthless. Bitcoin is the center of this whole space. If it's going down, it takes the whole space with it.

that's true---if bitcoin price is consistently trending down. in that case, they are screwed no matter what. but bbc.reporter is right that a bullish bitcoin isn't enough to save a mismanaged company, especially as the manufacturing space gets increasingly competitive.

bitmain's IPO plans always felt like a cash grab to me. they are cashing out ASAP while they're still at the top.

Also, if Bitmain's success depended only on bitcoin, we should go to the source of success. Bitmain's stock would appear like another speculative investment that is betting on the company, that is betting on the success of bitcoin hehehehehe.
5957  Bitcoin / Press / [2019-11-18] Russian Intelligence FSB Linked to $450 Million in Missing Bitcoin on: November 18, 2019, 02:51:29 AM
There might be more behind this story. Why would Russian intelligence claim and collect Wex funds randomly?

I have said before that some exchanges might be created for money laundering with the help of criminal organizations. I did not think of intelligence agencies however hehehe.

In late 2018, Russian-based crypto exchange WEX collapsed amidst accusations of money-laundering the disappearance of hundreds of millions of dollars in bitcoin and other cryptoassets. According to a BBC report published Nov. 15, the Russian FSB intelligence agency may have played a role in misappropriating the lost funds.

WEX was previously known as BTC-e before being shut down in 2017 by international authorities for its alleged involvement in money-laundering activities. Alexander Vinnik, the exchange’s alleged operator, was arrested at the time and accused of laundering more than $4 billion in cryptocurrency since the exchange’s launch in 2011.

According to the BBC report, WEX/BTC-e co-founder Alexey Bilyuchenko says he was forced to hand over information about customer’s digital wallets to members of the FSB in 2018, which the intelligence agency allegedly used to obtain more than $450 million in user funds.

Bilyuchenko reportedly received multiple calls threatening to close the WEX exchange if he did not comply. According to the report, the WEX co-founder was taken to FSB offices in Moscow over the course of three days in April 2018, where he handed over flash drives containing details on accessing exchange user funds.

Bilyuchenko says he was told that WEX client money would be transferred to the “FSB Russia Fund.” Several months after handing over the data, WEX froze customer funds and withdrawals, before completely shutting down in late 2018.

5958  Economy / Speculation / Re: Speculating with Tom Lee on: November 18, 2019, 02:02:07 AM
Is $150,000 Tom Lee's longterm price speculation for bitcoin hehehe? I reckon that a 1,670% increase might not be possible anymore. This would require substantial risk and pumping. How much fiat did it take for bitcoin to be on $20,000 and how much more would it take to be on $150,000?

Bitcoin would need to surge past $150,000 per coin to make an exchange-traded fund for the cryptocurrency work, Fundstrat Global Advisors co-founder Tom Lee said, according to Bloomberg. Such an advance would mark a roughly 1,670% increase from current levels.

Several firms look to ride the hype behind crypto-coins through related ETFs, but the Securities and Exchange Commission has mostly stifled attempts to form such alternative assets. The $200 billion crypto sector enjoyed a moderate recovery from an early-fall trough, but it still has a way to go to meet demand necessary for an ETF, Lee said.

"The SEC needs to punt the ETF until crypto becomes bigger," Lee reportedly said at conference in Singapore on Friday, adding that "demand for an ETF is monstrous."

Large fund releases can bring in around $13 billion in first-year demand, and the buzz around cryptocurrencies remains healthy, according to Lee. His $150,000 estimate requires a 1,670% gain from bitcoin's current price.

5959  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Grin | PoW Mining | Electronic transactions for all. Community driven. on: November 17, 2019, 04:09:50 AM
Today the Dev fund received 50BTC from an unspent mined block in december 2010 !

How amazing is it to see that a whale, early adopter of BTC is that fond of GRIN.

TX ID :
Quote

I did some research and back in December 2010 there was only 2400 members registered on the forum.

But realistically between registering and mining a full block I believe the learn curve (at that time) would be 2 months.

So members registered before October.... Which mean when the forum only had 1700 or less members.

And if it the same donator than the previous 50 BTC  ( https://www.blockchain.com/btc/address/18FufdutXggR2EgBuu6xRvL15kmpaPzfTQ)

It means that a serious whale (why would someone give more than 10% of his total holding) with maybe north of 1000 btc is supporting Grin.

Wow that’s a pretty nice and hefty donation I’m with you something must be brewing. Grin is a great project so not really surprised hope to see a updated roadmap

You stop hyping, nothing is brewing. It was only a donation. However, something will begin brewing when bitcoin's rewards for miners will be very small and when they also begin relying on the fees for financial support.
5960  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Grin Observer - GRN/BTC - Price Movement and Discussion on: November 17, 2019, 03:35:01 AM
The donation is almost half a million dollars in today's Bitcoin price. That is a large sum of money for a donation. Only a large holder of Bitcoin can easily give away anonymously. This tells me that the donor is a very early Bitcoin holder whom is hedging on Grin to be a possible Bitcoin replacement - not really sure though.

That's an extremely small sum for such an extended development timeline not to mention the goal. There will need to be more such infusions over the years.

Agreed. However, they also say that Satoshi's wallets hold millions of bitcoins. There will certainly be more 50 bitcoin donations going to Grin's development team hehehehe.
