He's limited to 120v I believe, which limits him to high end ATX if he wants over ~1000w or so.

Thanks Prelude...

Yeah, I saw that after reading it again and edited my post.

The advice is still good, those 2kW PSUs are probably the best way to go considering you can control the noise by choosing appropriate fans. Just need to be able to tap in to 200+ volts.

Has anyone received B8 and measured the power consumption at the wall yet? 1300w + 10% seem a bit on the high side, completely capping a 15a120v breaker and leaving no headroom for OC or anything.

My B8 pulled 1362w from the wall with a platinum PSU running on 240v at 700MHz. Would be closer to 1400w if running on 120v instead due to PSU efficiency loss on 120v.

Yeah, the 240v do get 2%~ more efficiency. Thanks for the number, but i'm not sure i want to buy a 400$ ATX PSU to get 94% on 120v.

Maybe i could find some quiet 1600w sever PSU that is quiet?

The two 1100w PSU i have would not work very well here.

DAAAAAAAMN...  That's more than I anticipated.  What was your RPM's on the fans and temps please?

The fans would have been approximately 3k RPM with ~60-65c temps at the time.

You won't find a 1600w server PSU that runs on 120v, much less a quiet one. I'd consider trading you my platinum unit (Antec HCP 1300w, see review on jonnyguru) for your 2 server PSUs.

Do I need a DOGE wallet + address, or can I simply use an exchange's DOGE deposit address for my found blocks? Don't really want to install the DOGE wallet.

I just had a blade die randomly on a batch 8 S7. It now shows all dashes where the chips should be and 0c temp.

I'll be documenting the RMA process from start to finish and posting it here every time there is an update

12/28/15 Called bitmain US support and spoke with "Z", who directed me to zendesk and had me open a support ticket.
12/28/15 Created detailed support ticket containing all relevant information and a screen shot of the miner's dashboard showing the dead hash board.
Current status: Waiting for a response from bitmain.

You should have emailed directly to info@bitmaintech.com, they replaced 2 of my fried boards and a fan.

How was the service dealing with China directly? I imagine it isn't too late for me to email them instead of the US team.

See my earlier post regarding my RMA experience with Bitmain China.

I am impressed the way Bitmain handled my warranty claim. I sent an email to info@bitmaintech describing the issues I was having, only 1 out of 3 boards worked out of the box. Wrote order number and problem on the subject line. Also added type of power supply I was using, in this case a Bitmain 1600 watter, sent a picture of input voltage with a  voltmeter just in case.  Got a reply from Sherry Liu, she asked if I opened the miner yet, if not open and inspect. I found loose heatsinks and burn marks on the boards after opening up the miner. I sent pictures to Sherry. She approved the RMA and sent me prepaid shipping labels. Note because of time difference it is not fair to expect a reply within an hour or two, wait at least 24 hours or longer depending when you sent your email. After shipping out the boards, replacement boards were at my doorstep in 7 days. I ordered more than 10 S7s from Bitmain and this is the only S7 that gave me trouble, they are all hashing at their advertised speed or faster. Also it is good to be polite, I am sure Bitmain didn't mail a defective miner, things get rough during shipping.

Great, happy to see you were well taken care of. Here's hoping my experience is similar.

It does not seem right to me sincerely lose $ 600 in 4 days Huh Huh

LOL. Forget it. We're talking about bitmain here.

Your only hope is to have the bank cancel the transfer if you want your $600 back.
590  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: F2Pool is directly threatening Bitcoin's future on: December 26, 2015, 05:52:25 PM
I just picked up an S7, and have about another 1TH is random miners (I know, small fish) and I am definitely going to be sticking with smaller pools. Maybe not as consistent for hitting that magical ROI.

Why try and make a quick buck and threaten bitcoin's future when you could foster it and let it grow, much greater profit long term than short term.

You'll make more by mining on Kano than you will here, which makes ROI quicker and overall BTC earned higher on Kano across the miner's lifespan. I think you mean daily payouts are less consistent, but that doesn't matter to the overall picture.
591  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [5 PH] Kano CKPool (kano.is) from the cgminer devs [0.9% PPLNS] on: December 24, 2015, 05:41:05 AM
One minor problem with bitcoind is that you can't tell it to change that limit without shutting it down and restarting it.
Since I now run 3 bitcoind on the main server it's not that much of an issue to switch settings I guess.
Just interested why 3 bitcoind on the same server?  I understand they are specified as backups to ckpool and maybe connected to different nodes but will you share detals?

Think it's as simple as keeping the pool running if one instance of bitcoind were to crash. Redundancy.

Thanks for the explanation. Can't argue against increasing it, more fees collected for us. Smiley
593  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon 6 Vs Antminer S7, which one you will choose? on: December 24, 2015, 05:20:12 AM
There is something about Innosilicon that doesn't quite make sense. Why go public and push the A4 chip when LTC mining is a much smaller market. Really what is the future of LTC?

I agree that the A4 makes no sense at all. They probably decided to make it when litecoin had a little pump a while back to 6$ or so. Bet they regret that, now.

They're making the A3 also, though, right? That's their new SHA256 chip. I really hope they and their partners come out swinging at bitmain.

Thanks guys. Ended up using the PSU with built in 5v, didn't want to risk frying anything.
595  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S7 Failed Firmware Update on: December 24, 2015, 05:14:07 AM
Why did you update? We don't even know what the updates do thanks to bitmain's incompetence....
596  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Bitmaintech firmware upgrades did they work for you., on: December 24, 2015, 05:10:11 AM
Never had a unit bricked, but have been screwed by bitmain twice as they silently removed functionality that was in previous firmware.

1st: They disabled voltage adjustments on S4, but left the field there. Took a while before I realized that voltage was not actually changing to what I set. Can be rectified by flashing older, flawed firmware.

2nd: Removed frequency selection above 200MHz, so no more overclocking. Bitmain refuses to make the overclock enabled firmware available, though they promised me multiple times they'd email me a copy of the firmware that shipped with the S4+ at launch. Liars. Can still be overclocked by editing cgminer.conf via SSH.

I no longer update bitmain firmware unless crucial.

Heh that was also a 48minute network block so we packed in the mining fees very well ... 2.5% Cheesy

Nice! Kano, I've been meaning to ask. Why are our blocks never over 888KB? Why keep them from being as close to 1MB as possible?
The block size setting (as it says in the first post) is 888,888 Smiley

Sorry, didn't phrase my question properly. I know they're set to 888,888 max. I was wondering what made you pick that number, is it as simple as 8 being your favourite number or something? Also, why limit it at all? Block propagation speed? Sorry if you've explained this already, I haven't read the whole thread.
