Georgem sold all his SPR so he doesnt care.

Well I'm not a pump'n'dumper like you.
I'm in it for the long haul.

I've been actively mining SPR for quite a while now.
I'll continue doing so forever, now that I have a constantly growing mining operation going.
I also need this deeper mining experience since I'm working on my own advanced spreadminer.

All this feels like a wet dream.
As long as SPR price stays high I'll just afford more and more 1080's.
Should the price come down, I'll be able to mine more blocks.

If altcoin sphere has taught me anything it's that in the end patience will be rewarded.
So you guys go ahead, do your swaps and HLMs and what not, while I just stay here with SPR forever.
We will see how this will play out.

BTW I also do all kinds of dev work (Qt and C++) where you can pay me in SPR if anyone is interested.  Grin

That's the humble way of earning some SPR, the opposite of what you pump'n'dumpers are doing. Grin

Yes, if you own Spreadcoin when the snapshot happens (currently August 1st) you will be able to receive HLM & keep both coins. The ratio is 1:1.

I haven't heard a good explanation yet why HLM doesn't simply start a new blockchain once development is ready.

Shouldn't this lead to the fairest distribution of coins, especially if the goal is to host masternodes?
(and centralization of masternodes is a bad thing, right? Right? Do we agree about that? Roll Eyes )

To me, the current approach (snapshot) looks like an "instamine on steroids" when you consider how centralized the coin distribution of Spreadcoin obviously is.
(Just look at the ease with which a handful of big SPR holders gets to pump the price of SPR right now, especially during this altcoin bubble)

I mean, anybody with two brain cells can see that.
So, do you guys even care anymore?

So I've accidentally sent Spreadcoin to a Stratis address.

Yes, embarrassing.

I've tried importing the Stratis privkey for that address into the Spreadcoin wallet but I get the error message "Invalid private key (code -5)"

Any suggestions as to how I might go about recovering my lost Spreadcoin?

Spreadcoin and Stratis addresses look exactly the same.
Both use Networkbyte (address prefix) of 63.
Except that Spreadcoin uses compressed public addresses.

So in a way that's a similar situation we had earlier with the guy who burned his paperwallet SPR because of a mistake.

You are in the same situation.
There is no way you can recover the SPR you sent to that Stratis-Address, because your transaction was indeed valid (there is a SPR address that looks exactly like your Stratis address).
This transaction has now long been confirmed by the blockchain,
but you don't own the actual private key of that SPR address (that looks like your Stratis address), since it would need to resolve to a compressed public address not an uncompressed.

Well.... nobody will ever own that private key to be more exact.  Cool

When HLM splits, I hope I have a node so I can vote for his coins to go to me Cheesy

lol, is that what HLM will be about?
You can "vote" what happens with other people's money?

oh jeeezus..!
Did that  piet noob just burn 10,000 Spreadcoin?

It sure looks that way... although all this could be a misunderstanding I hope.
I asked him to send me copies of his paperwallets so that I can take a final look and determine if the case is terminal or not.

Sad

But yeah, I think it's a pretty clear case.
66  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: July 19, 2017, 12:52:52 AM
George, don't you think it would be a good idea to ask the paper wallet provider to either remove Spreadcoin from their site or modify the generator to work properly?

Well, the generators DO work properly, it's just that they don't care to inform the user about further specifications/limitations of a coin.
You can create wonderful paperwallets with them, just be sure to send your SPR to the right (compressed) address!

So, what's the issue with those generator sites?
It's very easy to create a generator for hundreds of coins by just switching the network byte and assign it to a coin name and logo.
But it would be extra work to properly test the results and warn people about specific issues. (with sometimes fatal consequences)
Those sites try to skip this extra work by just indiscriminately showing both compressed and uncompressed addresses, although NO coin (as far as I know) allows for simultaneous usage of both address types.
They know that some coins use this format and some the other, and they assume that the user will be informed enough to know what to choose.

So, I'd rather people wise up and know about the dangers instead of me having to police all third party sites. That would turn into a never ending job.

For what its worth, I wouldn't really call this a rookie error. Its more of a case of a usually reliable service that is mis configured for your project.

Rookie as in "learning the hard way in what state most altcoin sites and services are".
We've all been there. I'm not being condescending.

Walletgenerator sites are lazy, but I don't really blame them.
Though I wouldn't call that "reliable service", just look for example at this glaring mistake in the universalwalletgenerator.net

67  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: July 19, 2017, 12:23:06 AM
I adjusted the OP, now it says...

WARNING!

Be careful when creating paper wallets or addresses with third party sites, like walletgenerator.net or universalwalletgenerator.net.
There have been cases where people sent SPR to the non-compressed public address.
This has fatal consequences since SPR uses compressed public addresses ONLY.

Always send SPR to the compressed public address, or else your SPR are lost forever.

...

...

...

If you want to recover the SPR in your address SQtakqnKGKUZLK5UhRqETkWAZp6P4nZ7UG,
you would need to find a new private key where SQtakqnKGKUZLK5UhRqETkWAZp6P4nZ7UG is the compressed public address , not the uncompressed address.
That's the only way to recover your SPR, but also impossible.  Sad
68  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: July 18, 2017, 05:10:54 PM

Thanks in advance to help us out...

I suggest you do the following:

since your intent was to purchase HLM with those SPR,
and since HLM will (as far as I know) bring its coins into existence through some sort of swap,
you could ask the HLM team to consider your SPR amount that you sent to a non standard address.

If I'm not mistaken HLM will use a centrally controlled escrow mechanism to swap those SPR for HLM.
It will be infinitely easier for HLM to consider your non-standard SPR, instead of Spreadcoin changing it's protocol to solve a rookie mistake.
69  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: July 18, 2017, 05:07:13 PM
Hi georgem,

I have search for the necessity of using only compressed Public adresses and compressed private keys on the spreadcoin website and in the white paper but I can't find it!

Mr. Spread (the original creator of Spreadcoin) implemented this as part of his "compact transactions" scheme.

If you would to that you would help people from your community a lot.

Oh I think the community is fine.

No miner, no exchange, no user of official spreadcoin software ever complained about the compressed key format.
Sadly it's always the zero-post accounts that pop up now and then who used some third party service (that we don't recommend for a reason) and then they complain.

All I can do is make the warnings bigger I guess.

My spreadcoins are on the Spreadcoin blockchain. I have the private key belonging to that adress (which is the non compressed one).

Well, de facto, since Spreadcoin doesn't use non compressed keys your spreadcoins are NOT part of the Spreadcoin blockchain.
And yes, I understand that the amount you sent is clearly visible on that SPR address, but you DON'T own the compressed private key that corresponds to that address.
Basically, you sent your SPR to the wrong address.  Embarrassed
I know it sucks but those are the internal rules.

Is there a possibility for you or your team to create the possibility to import private keys for non compressed spreadcoin adresses?

No, we can't have both compressed and uncompressed keys, since that would amount to 1 privatekey controlling two kinds of spreadcoin addresses, and all SPR amounts would be double, that's not how this works.
70  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: July 18, 2017, 02:56:49 PM
I think that's important so I'll post it here:

!!! WARNING: This user is a newbie. If you are expecting a message from a more veteran member, then this is an imposter !!!

Hi georgem,

I have bought spreadcoins a few months ago because of the helium project and putted them on a paperwallet. Now I tried to import them in to the spreadcoin wallet on my laptop but I can't get it done.

By looking on the internet i found out that spreadcoin is working with a compressed public key and private key, something i did not know.

What i don't understand is that if i look at the SpreadCoin Blockchain Explorer
my address has spreadcoins on it:

Address   SQtakqnKGKUZLK5UhRqETkWAZp6P4nZ7UG
Balance   5,000.6 SPR
Rich List   Rank 133   at block 1536916 with 5,000.6 SPR
Guesstimated Wallet   none
Received   5,000.6 SPR   in 2 transactions
Sent   0.0 SPR   in 0 transactions

But I'm not able to import them with importprivkey into the spreadcoin wallet due to its not compressed.
Is there a possibility to get my coins back?

Hope you can help me

Kind regards Piet

Hey Piet van Looij,

It depends on where you created your paperwallet and whether that site properly uses compressed keys and shows you the right privatekey.

If that isn't the case then your coins are lost and can't be recovered.
(meaning the privatekey they gave you is for another address)

Read about it here in this thread, another user had a similar experience like yours:

http://spreadcointalk.org/index.php?topic=774.0

I am creating a new wallet that will implement a paperwallet function exactly because of this reason, so you don't have to hope and guess whether some third party service knows how to follow spreadcoin's protocol.

That is a problem that keeps coming up.
In the last ca 3 years I heard maybe 5 people report similar problems, so it's worrying that this keeps coming up.

 Sad

I'll put a warning in the first post of the thread.

71  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: May 15, 2017, 11:18:31 PM
So one assumes the Spreadcoin developer (georgem) will continue on as before. At least we haven't heard any differently that I'm aware of.

Exactly, you assume correctly.

I am currently invested in the creation of the spreadwallet, a new spreadminer and building a "testnet in a box" raspberry cluster.
This altcoin bubble we are in right now finally allows me to build my "crypto lab" the way I always wanted it, lol,
and believe me I do that with spreadcoin in mind (and maybe bitcoin itself) but not for any other coin.

I am creating the tools right now that I will need for further research.

So, no, I am in no way affiliated with helium, which has completely different goals than I have.

Smiley

Stay tuned!

It's been going very well for Spreadcoin this past month.
I thank my patreons for their ongoing support, which has helped me to decouple from my dayjob a little bit.
Big things are coming in April.
I was also able to completely fund all GPUs and the Raspberry Pi-Cluster through this recent rise in the SPR price.

Stay tuned for massive news in April! :-)

Any slack invite link guys? If no slack one should
Be made for quick communications. I know
About riot but more people use slack frankly.

No time to slack around, too much work.  Wink

please use this thread here or the one on the spreadcointalk forum and ask anything you want.
And I (and others) will answer as fast as possible.

in 60 days I'll start an interesting association with SPR (adoption phase as a merchant). The requirement will be the certified possession of SPR coins.

Hey Nikolaj,

you got me curious now.
What is this association you are talking about, and what do you mean with "certified possession" of SPR coins?

You asked me to have a chat about this through skype/slack but I would rather have such discussions in public, it's my policy in such cases, since I now consider myself "employed by the spreadcoin community".

Thank you.

@georgem - Yes - unfortunately my weekend fell apart.  I will give it another attempt over this week/weekend and report back.  Ty. - pokeytex

I'm sorry that you had time once but unfortunately I wasn't around to help you then. Dammit!

It will work out better next time, just write a post, preferably in the spreadcointalk forum.
I check it pretty frequently. More than this thread here.
Thanks.

@Georgem - I have tried and failed to get the daemon running.   Huh  Unfortunately, I don't know enough linux to make it work.  I was able to import the tar file and can't get farther then that.  LOL  - I am such a noob.  I will wait for your tutorial.

Thanks - pokeytex

Hey pokeytex, I pasted a small tutorial in the spreadcointalk forum, did you see it?
Would love to get your feedback.

Any updates?

I will have something major before the end of the month.
Next to the continuous work on the spreadwallet, I also started work on a new (long overdue) spreadcoin-daemon based on the newest bitcoin core 0.14 version which I will release soon.

But I wouldn't call it spreadcoin CORE, because I am only adapting spreadcoin to most of the newest bitcoin core features, but NOT all of them.
Just enough to get the benefits, but not too much so that it might cause a fork. (in any case the protocol will remain 100% unchanged)

More info about that very soon.

And yes, it will only be a daemon, since the plan is that from now on the spreadwallet will be the separated GUI for the spreadcoin daemon (and other coin's daemons).
You will run them both together in tandem.

Stay tuned, crazy amount of work.  Shocked

DASH is nearly $400m and has benefited considerably from stuff that looks like it came from ideas that could have happened here first. but no instead spreadcoin is a rounding error on DASH prices. Let us see if HELIUM can catch DASH, and even if it only gets to 10% at least it is going to give it a try.

Come on man, think for yourself.
Don't just parrot what other people put in your head.

Remember that PM you sent to me about 6 months ago:

The same people that told you to invest in crowncoin back then, are telling you now that HELIUM will be the next big thing.

You have your own brain and are entitled to your own opinion.
But you have to...

USE IT!

... or else others will ...

USE YOU!
