621  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Venezuela on: January 25, 2019, 12:11:24 AM
The government is very big in Venezuela. It is the largest employer directly and indirectly. The Chavez government knew how to use Petroleo's resources, they have created in the population an extreme need of government as responsible for everything in the life of a citizen.

For this reason, the protests are so significant. It is not a dispute between leaders as some belief. It is not the same as it is in Middle East and Africa.

People got tired of the government. They find no hope other than complete change.

Guaidó emerged in this situation. He gained support by fighting the government, especially in his home state. But there are other leaders who are much better known than he is, but they are in prison or have left the country. What will actually happen when Maduro falls, will be the division of the opposition and also of the situation. Many new candidates will emerge. Today it seems like they are few because either you are totally against the government or totally in favor.

And that is why no major armed conflict will occur. The rats will quickly leave the ship, each one will try to maintain some power with the fall of this government. Diosdado and Néstor will probably try to support/create another leader, and thus keep the businesses they own.
622  Bitcoin / Press / [2019-1-24]Robinhood, LibertyX Receive Licenses from New York Regulators on: January 24, 2019, 10:18:00 PM
coindesk

Stock trading startup Robinhood and bitcoin ATM provider LibertyX have become the latest companies to be granted New York’s BitLicense.

The New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) announced Thursday that it was granting Robinhood Crypto, a subsidiary of the main firm, and Moon Inc., which does business under the LibertyX moniker, virtual currency licenses, as well as a money transmission license for Robinhood.

NYDFS superintendent Maria Vullo contended in a statement that New York has a “flourishing financial technology sector” thanks in part to its regulatory regime.

In a statement, Robinhood co-founder and co-CEO Vlad Tenev said the new licenses “will complement the larger suite of investment services that New Yorkers already have access to on the Robinhood platform.”

“The NYDFS has been very helpful throughout this process, and we look forward to their ongoing guidance as we prepare to launch Robinhood Crypto in New York,” he added.

Robinhood has provided crypto trading services since February 2018, when it first launched bitcoin and ether products to residents of a select few states. At press time, it also offers trading options for bitcoin cash, litecoin, dogecoin and ethereum classic.

While New York residents did not previously have access to Robinhood’s services, the company said it would be rolling out across the state “in the coming months.”

Similarly, LibertyX co-founder and CEO Chris Yim said his company was “delighted” to receive the BitLicense, “and offer the first debit card bitcoin purchasing options to New York State residents.”

The company will be the first licensed firm to allow residents to buy bitcoin using debit cards through traditional ATMs, according to the release.

That being said, bitcoin teller machine operator Coinsource, which makes specialized bitcoin ATMs, received a BitLicense late last year.

About 16 different companies now possess the controversial virtual currency license, which NYDFS first launched in 2015.

This option of being able to buy Bitcoins using ATM Debit Card is very interesting. New York is one of the 3 cities that receive the most tourists in the world. I believe one of the biggest use cases for Bitcoin will be among tourists, so having thousands of ATMs around the town will be very interesting.
623  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Samsung S10 crypto wallet leaks on: January 24, 2019, 07:04:31 PM
If you think about a business's point of view, investing in a cryptocurrency wallet would be very disruptive and would put Samsung ahead of your main competitors who are Google Wallet and Apple Pay.

Smartphones are already being commonly used as a means of payment. In China, wechat is already one of the most used means to pay for anything. a few people are using fiat daily.

Having a cryptocurrency wallet though looks like something really risky, it's actually great. It is an engineering responsibility, but not a financial one. Apple Pay needs to work with several other financial companies to function. This means lobbying governments, trade agreements, and a lot of marketing spending. But in the case of Samsung, they need to have only one app working well and the coin enthusiasts will do the rest.
624  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steemit appoint new boss on: January 24, 2019, 06:42:47 PM
Steemit still offers many possibilities. And it is very interesting that this organizational change occurs. I think the great quality of Steemit compared to other platforms is the great possibility of being paid for writing without having a consolidated career. Micropayments is something useful and revolutionary that has not yet been fully explored.

Having ads can also be interesting. But they should not be invasive and users should also be rewarded.
625  Other / Meta / Re: Happy birthday, the merit system! on: January 24, 2019, 05:32:11 PM
Honestly, I'm not exactly sure if the introduction of the merit system was essential in reducing spam. I believe that it has had a much greater influence by encouraging a more elaborate production of good topics and good responses. Many users began to care more about what they were writing in the expectation of receiving merits as a reward.

The reduction in spam may only have actually occurred with the introduction of 1 merit to turn Jr. And perhaps, as suggested, increase the number of merits required to climb the ranks at the lowest levels could be great for the forum.

Price may have been a much more influential factor in reducing spam. With the constant drop in prices, the incentive to produce spam has decreased.

Only two members, in this topic, do not attempt to receive any BTC with their signatures: suchmoon and fillippone. Theymos and Quickseller have a tip address.

I technically don't have any obligation (nor am I paid) to wear the ChipMixer signature. You also missed OgNasty, Jeremycoin, cryptohunter and alanst

I did not notice that Jeremycoin did not promote any business in his signature.OgNasty promotes his business, alanst is a newbie, cryptohunter should also be included, but with the neg trust, I do not know if he does not promote by choice or lack of.

Technically, I do not have a signature either, but it's just for lack of choice. Tongue

EDIT: @theymos: only 4 (including myself) dont earn something with their post in this topic. thats all you have to know
Cheesy
Do you want to have a link in my sig?
I will make at least 10 post a week.

You can choose:
1. the color of the rectangle
2. behind which rectangle the link is.

Price: 15$ a week (7 days) in BTC for 1 rectangle.

I don't accept links that are NSFW.

If I find out that you try to scam people with whatever you advertise in my sig, I will remove the link and you don't get the money back.

You would like to use an escrow? No problem. Just recommend one.

631  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Venezuela - communists are falling, so might btc on: January 24, 2019, 01:47:02 AM
Venezuela is very small economically. And the use of Bitcoin over there was a lot more marketing than something concrete, unfortunately. It will not have big impacts if there is a big sale of BTC over there. Even because the economy will still be destroyed for a long time. And there is still a possibility of some internal strife and perhaps even civil war.

btw, Trump has recognizes opposition leader as president

I would also think that accept newbie is not a great idea. It is too easy to create an alt account. If they are from Twitter, you could ask for their nick there.

633  Bitcoin / Press / [2019-01-23]Tax breaks, land deals and cheap energy. Mining in Georgia on: January 23, 2019, 03:07:48 PM
nytimes
Despite Bitcoin’s Dive, a Former Soviet Republic Is Still Betting Big on It
Tax breaks, land deals and cheap energy have spurred cryptocurrency mining in Georgia, which wants to be a digital data leader.

Georgia — For three years, a windowless warehouse on the edge of town has been whirring with enough energy to power nearly 50,000 homes. Day and night, the warehouse, and dozens of cargo containers in a windswept valley, are generating Bitcoin, the cryptocurrency that has created a virtual gold rush in the former Soviet republic of Georgia.

Bitfury, an American technology company, is churning out millions of dollars’ worth of the digital money using ultracheap hydropower harvested from waters rushing down the volcanic peaks of the Caucasus. Even as the currency has tumbled in value, thousands of Georgians have jumped into the game and sold cars — even cows — to buy high-powered computers to mine Bitcoin and join what has become a state-supported dash toward data supremacy.

A former prime minister encouraged Bitfury with a $10 million loan in 2015. The governing Georgian Dream party sold 45 acres for $1 for Bitfury to set up shop. The government has been selling energy at half the rates charged in the United States or Europe, and it has created tax-free zones to draw in tech-savvy entrepreneurs.

Mr. Urumashvili brushed off such concerns. “Bitfury has given our country many things, including a path to the future,” he said. “When you have a ticket to get onto the world map,” he added, “you should use it.”

Great New York Times article. Clearly, there is a lucrative relationship between politicians and Bitfury. And for that reason, it receives so many incentives. But it is also interesting to note how Bitcoin can be useful to the economy of regions that are away from the great centers.
634  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it possible to contact bitcoin support ? on: January 23, 2019, 01:50:57 PM
You probably need the support contact of a specific company. Maybe from an exchange or from an online wallet. Many people confuse blockchain.info with Bitcoin. blockchain.info is a company.

Bitcoin is a decentralized project. This means that there is no central authority legally responsible for the project.

But the various services related to Bitcoin are companies and institutions with legal entities. If you explain exactly why you need help, we could direct you to where you should send in your question or complaint.
635  Other / Meta / Re: Merit Backscratchers: who scratched who's back the most? on: January 23, 2019, 01:35:18 PM
Many WO club members just seem to "trade" merits with each other, but "It's all fun and games". Some other accounts, such as wnj4, have already been identified as connected and have received red trust. Overall I think it is small the number of accounts that have exchanged a lot of merits. I thought it would be something more common. Perhaps merit farms are very extensive and the number of merits exchanged is too small so they can stay off this radar and do not receive red trust.

I believe that most of the comments are about increasing moderation or restricting the actions of users in order to reduce spam. I do not think the intention of the topic is to increase the attributions of the moderators and administrators of the forum. I believe the intention is to improve the quality of the campaigns and provide better tools so that more companies can use this marketing service.

Signature campaigns is a great "use case" of Bitcoin. It simply demonstrates how Bitcoin and other currencies can be used for payments, invoices and are easily verified.

So the two suggestions I liked the most were these:

  • DdmrDdmr: CMS dashboard for managers. This could even be an outsourced and paid service. With more accurate statistics, campaign managers and funders would probably avoid spammers and users who post only on MEGA topics.
  • MadZ: separate campaigns that pay in coins that are already traded in well-known exchanges from projects that pay a% of an ICO, which does not yet exist. And my suggestion, separate the signature campaigns from the service area in the Bitcoin section. This would allow a greater organization of the campaigns and eventually accept other means of payments that are also accepted by the forum as Grin and maybe others.
  • I would also suggest giving a discount on the forum's ad auction for the project that had a good signature campaign among users. This suggestion is likely to be widely rejected, but... If a certain campaign had a good number of users and they received a good number of merits without users with negative trust, they would have an advantage in the Auction. If they won, they would receive a discount of 5% or 10%.

638  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin address lost !!!! on: January 23, 2019, 02:53:24 AM
I think you're lying. You're probably lying because you know nothing at all about Bitcoins, or having too much free time. Either way, if you had any chance of finding the private keys of a given and random address, Bitcoin's value would be close to zero.
639  Other / Meta / Re: yla1974 bun. on: January 23, 2019, 12:01:50 AM
In this case, the forum acts as a fraud, as well as the previous owner of the account. If trade in accounts is allowed, then there must be order. Rules create for their execution, for all right? As I understand it.
If you buy a car from a stranger, and you are shot for it on the street, taking for the previous owner. It is right?
No, that analogy is not right. A better analogy is if the previous owner threw sand in the crankcase causing the engine to blow up some time later after you bought it, then blaming the car's manufacturer for allowing used car sales. The moral of the story is, when buying a used car from a stranger, check the oil first, if only to make sure it is in fact oil and not sand.
It is convenient to interpret the rules to those who write them, but the fact remains. Failure to regulate trade accounts, and there is aiding fraud. It’s not for me to judge you, time will judge. I would reconsider the question of trading accounts. People do not like when they are deceived, and it does not honor our forum.

You are asking for help that would work almost like a state justice. The fact that it is not totally forbidden does not mean that the buying and selling of accounts are encouraged. Regulating this trade would bring responsibilities that the forum does not want to have.

Whoever buys an account knows the risks it runs. Do not try to hold the forum responsible for your risky, and stupid, decisions.

Hello everyone.

For those who joined the campaign in the last months, I'm the original campaign manager who was responsible for the first year of the campaign. I had to leave because of health problems.

Now Ethan has given me the task to take back this campaign to the highest possible standard and I'm not one to disappoint a client. I'll be your new campaign manager from now on.

So please let us all work together to make the YoloDice campaign the best and longest campaign of the forum!

This week will be the first under my management hence expect a communication by next week after my assessment of the current state of the campaign. You'll get a weekly communication from me so keep an eye on the thread.

And don't hesitate to PM me if you have any question!

Cheers!

Does this mean that new spots will open?
