641  Economy / Marketplace / Re: List of honest traders. on: April 10, 2012, 01:28:08 PM
Successfull transaction with gbr (Gfx designer). He helped me make a film poster for one of my upcoming films that was very well liked by everyone who it was shown to. Good to work with and is courteous (well mannered).

Pricing is generally ok.Even agreed to discount me a little even though it generally isn't the best thing to do after the work is done.Very accommodating of clients requirements.

5/5 for gbr. Smiley

Update:gorgo1 I've had a successful time lending to him and he paid me back early. It's rare for me to see new people paying loans back several days earlier (except those so called 'confidence' loans) I'm adding this as a preliminary good experience as he's relatively new to the forums. If you want to lend to this guy,do lend but be sure to ask for clarification as it's hard to understand him sometimes and feel free to do your own checks before lending to him.

Hope this helps people who might want to have dealings with gorgo1 in the future.

Oh and a successful trade with Moredropbox for his account expanding service (he'll boost the amount of space you have in your dropbox account for a fee)

So to sum up successful trades so far:
1.gbr (Gfx designer)
2.gorgo1 lent 2BTC to him,he paid me back early Smiley
3.MoreDropbox (Dropbox expanding service)

Hope this helps anyone looking to trade with the people I've mentioned.

As to your other feedback about it being monthly,I've organised it into rounds (this is currently round 1) so that if I'm unable to run the lottery for a month due to circumstances that everyone will have a fair chance of entering and winning.

Running it every month would be ideal though if only I had the time or could find someone suitable to help cover the games if I'm not here to help (no-one found yet). The round usually finishes when the jackpot is full (although I suppose I could speed up future rounds by giving the winner whatever the available jackpot was at the end of that round rather than the present approach of waiting for it to be full)

Word of advice to all-It's generally best to wait until theres a one confirm in your clients before sending me a PM saying you've entered and asking for a ticket number as it'll make life easier for you by making sure you've made a successful entry into the lottery. If in doubt,PM me and I'll try my best to help you.

I just got your transaction. Will send you a ticket no soon Smiley

Edit:Sent PM containing your ticket numbers.
644  Economy / Gambling / Re: Dream Islands lottery on: April 10, 2012, 10:25:02 AM
Your still missing how you are picking the winner and how you will make sure it's fair. How will people know you are picking a random person?
You also say to send BTC to one address. How do you keep track of who paid and where to pay the winnings to? For example say someone pays 0.05 to the address. You then get two people saying they bought tickets. It will be hard to know who is honest. You could have people saying they bought a ticket but didn't.
Ok,I hope this will address the remaining points so far:
1.I thought I addressed this but oh well.Anyway since the ticket numbers start from 000 to 500 in this round, I plan to try out a random number generator that will pick any number between 000 and 500.This will help me address the issue without having to worry about coding anything as there are plenty of premade random number generators available to choose from.Set the range and off you go.

2.How will people know I'm picking a random person? Well thats a good question. I will post an entry on the site (and on here) when the current (first) round has finished so that people will know not to make any further entries after the deadline. What will then happen is some sort of feedback system shall be put in place telling people that a random winner is being selected. Then the winner will be announced on here and recieve a PM from me so that they can claim the money.

3.I do say to send BTC to one address.I say that so it's easier for me to manage. The way for me to know is for people to PM me after entering so they can recieve a ticket number. It's all pretty clear I feel. You are encouraged to PM me anyway to get a ticket number plus to confirm your entry into the lottery. When a winner is picked and announced, they will recieve a PM from me asking them where to send the winnings. This is all manual I know but it will work.

4.In the case of doubt if 2 people claiming to have bought tickets on here. Here's how I'll have to handle it.If the 1st person PMs me with all necessary info and I see the transaction in the client, then he gets a ticket number (but in most cases they'll get a ticket number before a 1 confirm because most people are fairly honest but not fully). If the 2nd person then says they enter but I see no transaction of any kind and doesn't PM me with the info, then that entry would have to be ignored. If the situation is unusual in anyway,I'll take a closer look at it first before accepting or declining the entry in question.

I think it's time to concede that I do need a volunteer programmer (I can't pay them at this point though) to code a site (a single page will do) that can accept payments without me having to handle things manually and give auto feedback to the entrant like their ticket number. This is my first time in running any sort of lottery before so I'll be trying my best to make this work.
645  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Queries about reputation on: April 10, 2012, 09:55:52 AM
There's also a thread on here that if you've had a successful transaction, you post about it. Of course this is not a very organized way to do it, but it's an alternative method to this OTC you're talking about.

Thanks for that helpful suggestion. Can you link me to this thread so I can add my successful transaction with gbr (gfx designer)
646  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 1 BTC bounty --- What is the best FPGA unit to buy? on: April 09, 2012, 10:51:09 PM
Maybe look at the Bitforce FPGA (the $599 model as it's cheap, gives more than 820+Mhash/s and only uses 80W power) if you have the budget for it (like I hope to)
647  Economy / Gambling / Re: Complete List of Bitcoin Gambling Websites on: April 09, 2012, 03:59:30 PM
Nice job with organising the list OP,can you look into adding my gambling game onto there (check out my Dream Islands lottery sig for more info). I'm curious to see if that counts as a game or if this needs to the actual site as well (as its just a lottery)
648  Economy / Gambling / Re: http://btcflip.com = SCAM (nonpayment, no response from admin) on: April 09, 2012, 03:57:21 PM

651  Other / Off-topic / Re: What we've learnt today. on: April 09, 2012, 03:24:15 PM
What I learned today is this: Coming up with ideas to use in the BTC world is much harder than normal (like the paid-for content delivery system). The idea of running multiple online business ventures (Dream Islands lottery, Dream Islands Publishing-upcoming and others) that work with BTC is much harder than I realise. I hope that they can lift off in the BTC world,If not, I'll have to go back to dealing with GBP and the taxman.
652  Other / Off-topic / Re: The prices police pays for wiretapping you phone on: April 09, 2012, 03:15:02 PM
Thanks for the interesting article. This is certainly an eye opener for me to understand why my taxes are being squandered (on surveillance). The UK will have a much higher surveillance bill (It's the home of Big Brother-the TV show and the surveillance state) than the US lol Cheesy
653  Other / Off-topic / Re: You might be a Scammer If... on: April 09, 2012, 03:11:43 PM
Your first post in "Newbies" consist of a request to the admins that you need to get out of "newbie jail' ASAP, for you have a product/service that will bring Bitcoin to the mainstream. Once released, either by serving your time or blowing somebody, you head immediately to the current hottest thread to spew vile comments, the intended goal all along, never again mentioning the panacea for Bitcoin outlined in your first post of which, for some unknown reason, Gremlins hacked into this forum and performed only one malicious act--deleting said post.

~Cackling Bear~

I find this hilarious Gage lol Cheesy

I'll try one. If you jump straight into the loans section asking for a loan after getting out of newbie status (or jail maybe?) to get your fix Cheesy
654  Other / Beginners & Help / Now Open-Dream Islands games (for newbies section) on: April 09, 2012, 10:32:15 AM
I'm making a thread of a lottery I'm running on these forums. Read this:https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=90059.0 for more info.
I'm posting this here so that the newbies can enter without having to wait before being allowed to post in the other sections of this forum.please read and if interested (and a newbie),please enter here.

Update on the Dream Islands games (formerly the lottery and same info here as in the main thread):
Welcome to the new and improved games which is now open.
Expect to hear more about the new and improved games soon.
The old thread was locked as that was no longer relevant to these games now.
More info is available on the updated website:http://film2240.webs.com/dreamislandsgames.htm

Benefits (quote from the website):
1.Better and fairer winner selection system (now based partly on the blockchain although this is under development.)
2.New game types such as The Redeemer (gamble for good causes.1/3 of winnings go to good causes while you get to keep 2/3 of total jackpot) as well as other games to play.
2b.The winner gets to choose which good causes the 1/3 of the jackpot goes to. If no choice is made, this'll go straight to the Dream Islands Foundation (a non-profit that decides which good causes the money goes to).
3.More anonymous (i.e no need to tell me you've entered anymore as I've managed to find a solution to this now.Use the website to enter.)
4.More frequent games. (once a fortnight rather than once a month although this is improving)
5.Higher stakes = bigger jackpots.
6.Hopefully more interesting. Smiley
7.Each game type will be unique in some way so that no game feels the same or gets boring.(E.g The Redeemer game type has a different method of winner selection to the lottery.)
8.The games will be more inclusive for everyone (i.e newbies will no longer be left out like before where the newbie friendly games was released later than they should have).
9.The games will continue the tradition of democratic feedback which equals a higher quality experience while giving the freedom to change what each round/game should be like depending on user preference.

Available games (Now live):
1.Round 2 of the lottery.Entry is 0.1 BTC now.
2.The Redeemer (gamble for good causes) 0.2 BTC entry fee.
3.BTC Bingo (Entry 0.05BTC)-Enter by posting 6 random numbers of your choice. Each number can be from 0-50.The draw will begin after the 2 week round ends.
4.More will come over time depending on feedback of users.
5.[New entry] Litecoin gambler-Enter by sending LTC to LbTrAtf67th7DR9jeYgmLnSGAe89SrEEHj and by simply posting your LTC address.Winner will be chosen randomly via same system that goes for all games now.

Just a taste of things to come. Trolling is not welcome.I'm now welcome to feedback and suggestions on what you think of the new and upcoming developments. Smiley
Tip:For Litecoin (LTC) users, please read this thread:https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=93439.0 If you are a newbie and wish to use LTC,please enter with the addresses in the link and reply to this thread with only their LTC address to make life easier for newbies. Enjoy Smiley

If anyone here or the OP wants a small loan (less than 5BTC) in the future, consider me as an option. Smiley

Wow talk about gravedigging. You coulda at least posted in this one: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=75898.0

Ok. So many loan threads show up that it's hard to keep up you know.Try managing a large (ish) film crew at my job at the same time as keeping my online business ventures working. Anyway thanks for the tip hongus.I hope to get into the lending business.Got a client at the moment for the loans business. I find the BTC lending business an interesting one so far.

657  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: I wish to trial a content subscription system with BTC for media content on: April 09, 2012, 08:54:43 AM
I have no love for the Times, but this is unfair.

The downside of a lifetime subscription is that existing users can't exert any financial pressure on the provider. Normally if quality suffers some existing users will buy less, and just the threat of that keeps quality up. There is a reason we don't see many "All you can eat forever" diners. Granted content consumption is very different.

Another downside is that no one knows how long 'lifetime' really is. How long do most brands last? And this is a downside for both parties. You can't charge nearly what 100 years of good content would be worth because no one believes you'll really produce good content for 100 years. But people will rightly be reluctant to pay even the value of 1 year upfront.

Hmm interesting feedback.I guess I'll have to look at more Pay Per view style methods as it looks like lifetime subscriptions may not meet the needs of consumers. The way I see though is that offering a good, consistent user experience is important. That's why I thought the one off fee for access to all content would be better as once the person pays the fee, that person would have a lifetime of access to all content (existing and upcoming). I'm rather interested in knowing more about the 'all you can eat' type models as well as Per per view.

I do think that people are moving away from subscriptions so I'll need to make sure my offerings can keep up. I think the best thing to do is offer both subscription (tiered) as well as pay per view style options so that (nearly) everyone can be happy.

Thanks for the useful info on how long a 1 confirm transaction can take DeathAndTaxes.
658  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Anarchist blog pays BTC for content on: April 09, 2012, 08:19:54 AM
P.S. Sorry for being a little off-topic. Smiley

That's not off topic, that's called hijacking a thread and violates a pretty fundamental rule of netiquette.
Oh,didn't realise.Well anyway I was simply looking for content producers to trial out a service I was making.I guess this really deserves it's own thread. I simply want to reach them in the quickest way I know. Anyways thanks for pointing that out edd. It's true we learn something new everyday.
659  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: I wish to trial a content subscription system with BTC for media content on: April 08, 2012, 05:22:39 PM
A D&T PSA:

film2240 0-confirm is possible but be sure you understand the potential risks, losses, and countermeasures.   It is possible to be double spent but there are mechanisms to detect that double spend attempt.  Accepting 0-confirm isn't something to just do on a whim.  I was just pointing that properly implemented allowing micro tx based on 0-confirms is viable.  No need to have user pay 2 cents for an article and then have to wait 60 minutes to make sure they aren't a thief.

I think 1 confirm is the effective solution as there's security as well as speed.I wonder how long a 1 confirm would take over the BTC network for a transaction compared with 0 confirm (insecure)? Thanks for the extra info DeathAndTaxes
660  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: FAO people who solicit bitcoin donations: please post your Twitter username on: April 08, 2012, 03:37:40 PM
@film2240

I'd like to be able to recieve BTC via tweets from donors. I'm actually looking for donors to finance a few projects (an upcoming film-can't say much yet on this, upcoming services for Dream Islands Publishing, etc)

For more info about Dream Islands Publishing and the content subscription service I hope to lift off,see this thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=74958.0

Edit:I signed up to the service. Can someone send me a really small amount to test if this works so i can then do the same if possible? Thanks
