haha gl to the shorters, you're gonna need it  Grin

Tons of shorts opened ~350-375, and ~450.

Lots closed the last few days but you gotta feel for the poor souls who shorted at $275

I have suggested watching the hash rate to find the bottom.  Why?  Well, if miners start taking machines offline, it affects supply by reducing the coins mined to the normal 3600 daily or less.  But more importantly, it indicates the lowest price that miners must sell at to make a profit (of course every miner will have a slightly different level).  Any lower and miners must hold and hope for a price increase.  To sell would guarantee that they couldn't pay the monthly bills.  That behavior could dramatically affect supply.
Won't there on average be 3600 coins mined daily regardless of hashing power? Not sure I understand this argument...

i think he meant that at certain level, miner will hoard instead of selling

Well, if I'm not mistaken, we are generating >3600BTC a day right now (Er, were) because hash rate was so far over the difficulty. Probably not too much, like 3800..

BFX swaps are turning around again

OCT   7: $18m USD || 10k BTC
OCT 10: $21m USD || 15k BTC
OCT 14: $22m USD || 11k BTC

It looks like we are at the point:

https://blockchain.info/charts/difficulty

This isn't a statistical artifact due to a bad luck streak?

Not gonna calculate it, but I'm going to guess its somewhere around 99% certainty that this isnt just random chance.

Huobi order book has dramatically changed. It is still bearish, but barely so. There may be some life left in this rally after all.

There were like 20k asks on the whole book a few days ago. Now, just 11k. Out of those, 5k are on 2600

0.05 bot is back on

Let me know if it becomes significant Tongue

0.05BTC every 10 seconds = 0.3BTC/min = 18BTC/hr

Would have no effect at all on market (Especially because this bot seems to run very sporadically)

its goal must be to peg the price on one side of the spread.

+$40 in about 40 hours.

Most impressive! But, time for a cooldown most likely.

Today we learned a great lesson. If you want to manipulate the market down... Put the ask wall on Huobi.

Doesn't work so well in USD markets. ( the bulls eat you alive! )
673  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 13, 2014, 05:01:34 PM
another fakeout.

but hey, fonzie, we can still profit.

Profit like a MF. Today is a good day. I don´t think that it is a fakeout, people told me the same yesterday @370$, but we will see.
I went long 10x @360$ with 35 BTC collateral Cool
I think we will grind up slowly to 390-400$, after that we will probably see a nice candle to 420+$
Happy trading to you. May the money flow( into our pockets)  Cheesy

1) Posters aren't really disclosing their actual leveraged positions, are they?

2) seems less than smart to leverage either direction unless you have insider information

Why not? Is a whale really gonna dump just to fuck fonzie over?

What a bull would say: Look at all those huge bids on Huobi , it looks like the wall guy wants em getting filled:

What a bear would say: Told ya, another bull trap, Game Over

Good luck with your longs man! Huobi seems to be preparing for Rd.2. US markets didnt much like Rd.1

I have some room left until i´m out of profit zone. Won´t close em before 360-365$.
It really looks to me like the old "put up a ask wall and get your bids filled"" game.
But of course i´m looking through the (delusional) eyes of a bull.

derpinheimer is one of the most pathetic trolls, better to just put him on ignore.

I call $300 months ago despite opposition; proven correct: Troll
Gatekeeper calls up for months; proven wrong: Huh

Btc-e down?

Da fuq is going on?

OKCoin acting funny, BTC-E intermittent dropping out, ask wall on Huobi, dumps on Bitstamp and Bitfinex?

RUN FOR THE HILLS!

THE BEARWHALE BULLWHALE

Here's a thought - what if the bearwhale was actually a bullwhale?

1) dump some coins and put a massive 30k sell order wall at $300
2) purchase some long position calls on bitfinex or elsewhere.
3) eat it away using at least one other account, including an 11k purchase. Includes buying any coins being sold below $300.
4) remove the sell order for the last ~10k coins
5) watch the markets increase by 50% in a week, while still holding most of the original number of coins, plus extremely high-profit calls.

seems like by sacrificing ~10k coins to others at $300, the bullwhale effectively reversed the price decline, increasing the value of the remaining coins and probably selling the call positions for a tremendous profit.

is this feasible, or is the bearwhale just a bearwhale?

Occam's Razor. Most likely just a bearwhale. He lost over $1.7 million in market value and there hasn't been enough volume since then to make it likely he bought back in on margin. He couldn't have known $275 was the final bottom. It still might not be. How could he have known the market could absorb that many coins and not even slow down the rebound? Sure, we could be the toys of billionaires, but even billionaires have to compete with each other.

Yeah also #3 and #4 never happened. THere was no 11k buy and all 38,000 coins were sold.

Code:
Ask wall on huobi splitting and moving down! She's real!
The 500 wall put up first was pulled as soon as it was touched, put back up as soon as there was some room but I doubt it will stay that big if its touched again. Who'd have thunk 300 euro would have so much resistance Wink

The sudden 1k bidwall appearing with the 5k ask wall also leaves me suspicious. Seems like it could be manipulation. [And I've held firm the megabearwhale on bitstamp was not a manipulator]

Wall moved to 2,300
