661  Other / Meta / Re: Poor translation, random word generator or something else? Mod, please review. on: May 10, 2018, 08:09:48 PM
............
They are all the same spam as the ones in my original post. I'll confront DIW manager with this fact and report all of max6575's spam posts to moderator to prevent him being paid for spamming the forum.

I've checked his old posts again and he's random word spamming from September 30, 2017, when he registered. How was he not noticed all of this time?

I believe he deserves a ban. Any suggestions?

According to my understanding, now you can do nothing but reporting the posts one by one to the moderator, to delete them.
As long as bounty managers are not forced to enroll quality posters, we can do nothing else...
I haven't checked if there's a reason for ban if someone posts mixed words without any meaning...
I'm afraid what you have spotted is only the top of the iceberg ...

Thanks for the quick answer, I'll check your topic and try to fix it Smiley
And also I'm locking the topic to prevent it from shitposters Smiley
663  Other / Meta / Post count missing or I'm just infected with a virus or I don't know? on: May 10, 2018, 07:44:49 PM
I don't know if my PC is infected or what has happened, but I just can't see the post count when I open a topic. Instead, I can see a word: 'leet' and that's all.
image loading...

If I check my profile, everything is fine, but in the topics I can't see the posts like before.
Should I restart my PC first? Smiley
664  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: There will be a global cryptocurrency, but not bitcoin says EX Goldman Sachs on: May 10, 2018, 07:36:16 PM
I think that much like fiat currencies, there will be multiple global cryptocurrencies that will enjoy mass adoption.

The difference is that these currencies will not be bound by imaginary borders within specific countries like fiat currencies.
We are on the same page in connection with this, I also think that a lot of country will start to develop a national crypto. Just have a look at Sweeden, they have already announced this. It will be easier for them, because they are already a real cashless country, so this will be a minor change for them.
What I cannot really understand yet is that what will will be the difference between the digital fiat and the national crypto, if the central bank will be the one who can issue them, but time will tell... maybe only the system behind the two different digital money, or they will just replace the digital fiat system with the national crypto...
665  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Facebook appointed David Marcus to explore Blockchain on: May 10, 2018, 07:16:38 PM
i still don't understand what they are trying to create though! anything they make will be a centralized way of using the blockhcain technology and because of that it will have a low quality and value. it will be basically the same database that Facebook is already using..... correct me if i am wrong.

Even I have the same thought here. Facebook won't be creating something radically different server architecture from what they are using now. Also they won't be doing anything decentralized. Probably they will be implementing the blockchain technology to safeguard their data integrity and reduce data theft risks.

But it is too early to say anything. Since the announcement just cane yesterday that they will start exploring the blockchain. So we don't know what their thinking process is and what they are trying to implement. I am just happy that finally big corporates are realizing the power of blockchain.
FB has everything to develop a peer-to-peer payment system. They have the database, they have the connections between the parties, they know a lot about people, I can see no reason why they won't try to integrate a digital fiat based payment system into their system. Blockchain is needed to automatize and secure the system, so that can be the reason why they are thinking about it. But if I'm right, if they announce that they are thinking about something, in the background, most of the decisions are already been done and the development has been already started, but this is only my point of view.
Just have a look at China, their chat app has already taken away the interpersonal small money transactions from the banks and people are sending small amount via the app....
666  Other / Meta / Re: 3 liner press releases in Bitcoin Discussion, why we have the Press section? on: May 08, 2018, 09:36:25 PM
Seems like the press section itself has kind of grown out of fashion due to how bitcoin has been adapted more and more over time as well.

I guess it was meant to discuss how the press/mainstream media covered/talked about bitcoin, but now that bitcoin itself has gone so mainstream the board has become a bit redundant.

OK, I'll try to ask the same from a different point of view:

Should we let the members (spammers in this case) to grow their activity with posting a few sentences from articles into a new topic in the Bitcoin Discussion thread? Without additional comment? (and not like: What is your opinion about this, etc...) or without any effort to add something to the discussion?
I can accept that they don't want to use the Press section because it's old fashioned or something like that but in that case they should somehow try to write a few sentences about the article itself and not just copy and paste a few lines...
667  Other / Meta / 3 liner press releases in Bitcoin Discussion, why we have the Press section? on: May 08, 2018, 09:09:36 PM
I can see every day a bunch of new topics like this:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3650159.0
First post:
The parent company of New York Stock Exchange, ICE is reportedly working on a bitcoin exchange for big investors that will allow them to trade and hold bitcoin. After Goldman Sachs’ bitcoin future trading desk and Nasdaq’s collaboration with Gemini, Wall Street is slowly but surely warming up to the Bitcoin market.

here is more : https://coingape.com/nyse-developing-a-bitcoin-exchange/

What happens if I report it to the moderator, to move the topic to the Press section? Am I doing right or wrong? I'm asking this because in the Press section, usually people copy the whole article and after a link, but what to do with threeliners like this followed by a link?
I can understand that people want to let other people know that things happen in the world but this is a special type of copypaste and not a real discussion topic for me.
668  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Warning for Ledger Nano S users / buyers on: May 08, 2018, 08:55:24 PM
Buying the ledger from 3rd parties is fine... you just have to make sure you create a NEW seed upon receiving it. The ebay guy used a seed given to him meaning his private keys were already shared with someone else

No thats not the issue, the problem is that one of the chips in the Nano Ledger S is not secure, and can be modified by third parties.

If you're not confident to use hardware wallet then the best way to save all your long-term coin is a paper wallet and keep your private keys safely so that you can use them when you want in future. But for the regular usage, some of the desktop wallets like Electrum will do the best job.

Long back I planned to buy hardware wallet and after considering all the risks involved I dropped my idea of using hardware wallet and stick to my desktop wallet, paper wallet and for immediate access, I also use online wallets like XAPO and blockchain.
Hardware wallets are not as bad, as long as you have a backup of your private key (or preferably the seed). It's the easiest solution for people who are not tech savvy and don't want to play around with airgapped PC to store the desktop wallet, or to spend from the paper wallet when the time comes...
Hardware wallets are easy to use, but as everything else in life, it needs a basic understanding about the usage of it. I won't advice to someone (who is not confident enough to use a hardware wallet) to use a paper wallet because it makes the whole situation even riskier, e.g. the user keys in the private key on an infected PC online, not on a fresh OS installation on an airgapped PC...
I would suggest to use mobile wallets (Android or IOS, but without root or jailbrake) and hardware wallets for the beginners, if they want to secure their precious coins...
669  Other / Meta / Re: Another idea to get rid of the shitposts, but a different way... on: May 08, 2018, 07:34:06 PM
Different people have different opinions and criteria regarding a shit post. So, I am not sure if I would be comfortable applying someone else ignore list on my profile.
There are several members who have ignore list, this was the important part of the idea, that people can select which ignore 'filter' they want to apply. There can be filter groups like 'light', 'medium', ..., 'no mercy'
Mentioning JetCash was just an example, I was not referring to that specific list, I just needed an example. There are several other members with ignore list, like the above mentioned Danny Hamilton's list and AGD has a very long ignore list too Smiley

Do some work on your man, it is not that hard especially considering the benefits it comes with.

Well I already have an ignore list, and I know who's the next to include...

Applying for a review, thanks for your time:
1.
I have an idea (again Smiley )
Maybe this would be just a kind of symptomatic treatment like the painkillers, but anyway painkillers also help, at least for a while...
Somewhere I have read to let users to ignore complete topics (spamming megathreads, etc...) to have an easier overview of the new topics and posts in this shitpost ocean, where the quality posts are as rear as desert islands...
So, my idea is the following:
If someone, someday will decide to start to ignore the spam threads and the spammer users, and works hard on it, after a while he/she will have a decent list of the topics/users to ignore.
In the current situation, each and every user have to do the same, search for all the topics/posts to ignore, if they want to have a clearer view in the end.
I would propose a kind of 'filter' which is similar to an adblock addon, like you can input a list of threads/users to ignore and that would apply for you only, and after the forum would list only the relevant topics, posts for you.
Everybody would be able to set the ignore list up for himself/herself, but there should be an option to 'load' a list from someone who you trust/agree with/like/etc... or from a central repository.
Just and example:
I know that e.g. JetCash has a quite long ignore list, so if some users are happy with JetCash's ignore list, they could apply that filter for themselves as well, and they would save the effort for themselves...
I know it's hard to develop and to implement, but this is only an idea...
If people would start to use a solution like this, this would cause that spammers and shitposters won't bother the majority of the forum, but only each other and the few remaining users who won't apply any kind of 'filter', because this would only be optional (I don't want to force anybody to do anything...)
Let me know your cons Smiley

2.
So, I had enough trying to locate a working neutrino compatible node for the LN mainnet (I don't want to run a full node on the raspberry PI, because this is the point of the neutrino node).
So I switched to testnet and voilá...
Code:
 lnd –bitcoin.active –bitcoin.testnet –debuglevel=debug –bitcoin.node=neutrino --noencryptwallet --neutrino.connect=faucet.lightning.community
It's running (OK, still "Catching up block hashes"), but at least there's no problem with finding proper nodes to connect to.
So I'll start now with testnet and later on with the mainnet...

673  Other / Meta / Re: Poor translation, random word generator or something else? Mod, please review. on: May 07, 2018, 08:52:38 PM
How can even bounty managers pay these users ? Don't they check the posts quality before approving the weekly payments ? Not only the member is questionable but also the campaign manager should be reviewed.
Don't compare campaign managers (manages signature campagins with really high quality posts from the enrolled users) with bounty managers (manages bounty campaigns where the enrolled users share advertisements on social media sites and only comes to this forum to give a weekly update about their weekly 'job' and waiting for the bounty...) Of course, there are some kind of bounties where you have to spam this forum to get the bounty (post as many shitposts as possible...) in order to get the bounty, so the real problem here is the bounty part of the forum where the managers just don't care about quality but only quantity (the more the merrier Smiley ) to advertise their (usually) shitcoin or anything they give out as a bounty...
As long as the bounty managers are not forced to pay for the quality posts only, there will be little chance for the forum to get rid of the spam and the shitposts... but unfortunately there's no universal solution for this...

674  Other / Meta / Re: Meaningless and Redundant Topics on: May 07, 2018, 08:30:33 PM
Well removing signatures would put a stop to it for sure. That's the only reason we have all these terrible topics being posted everyday and the shitposters who are all too happy to post in them. You can report any unsubstantial or duplicate/similar thread and they'll likely be removed but the sad thing is most people don't bother reporting them so they just get filled with spam pretty quickly.

I also wouldn't be against setting some restrictions on who can post what where. Maybe new or lower ranked members should be limited to Beginners until they hit a higher rank. That way new users can still get answers to their questions but can't just come here to spam the same old rubbish that has been posted dozens of times before as fast as they can. I really think we should prohibit new/lower ranked members from posting in Off Topic and Politics. There's really no good reason why Newbies would need to post in those two boards and some of them post exclusively in there (and they're really not here for their Politics).
I fully agree with all of these, as I just can't stand the current situation on the Bitcoin Discussion board...
I don't know what would be better, to restrict users (from rank member and up) to wear signatures (this would increase the account sales and also the prices, so account farmer would win in the end...) or to let newbie, jr. members to post in beginners only (they would spam the hell out of that poor board...)

meandmrjones, you can have a look at this thread, it's not old, and has nearly the same subject, if you need further ideas:

The Singapore company Tangem released bitcoin-bills, which the developers themselves call "smart banknotes."  However, they are not made of paper - in fact it is hardware cold wallets with an integrated S3D350A chip from Samsung.  At the same time, the novelty has common features with traditional banknotes.  So, each bitcoin-bill represents a certain fixed denomination in BTC and can be transferred physically for payment.  In the company itself Tangem development is called "uncoolable cold wallet."

If it requires an NFC connection to chech the current balance, why the banknote is different from a mobile wallet? It's only that if you hand it over, it does not require a transaction to wait for?
...
They look like a pretty cool hardware wallet but I couldn't consider them bank notes.

This is like handing over your trezor or ledger nano S Smiley
I know it's easier to handle for a person who is not so tech savvy, but what in the other topic of this I've already asked the founder: what happens if I have this banknote (card) and by the time when I want to hand it over, the secure chip fails inside? I know that the coins will still sitting on the blockchain but how I can move them if I can't make a backup?
If I lose it, then it's the same like I lose a real banknote, because it's my fault, but if there is a hardware fault, that's not the same...
678  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Banknotes on: May 05, 2018, 10:42:08 PM
Does that mean that the notes don't have the Bitcoin address printed on them? If not why was it done that way?

Anything printed is trivial to counterfeit. When you validate a Tangem Note over NFC, there's a cryptographic challenge–response authentication which is impossible to fake. In a few milliseconds the app gets the public key and a proof that the private key is on the chip, as well as another digital signature that attests the manufacturing authenticity of the item.

Since we already rely on NFC and the secure chip to establish value and authenticity, adding too many physical cues could decrease overall security by making people rely on them in some situations.

If we apply Tangem technology to national cryptocurrencies, governments can limit redemption of the crypto banknotes they issue to accredited agents that guarantee physical destruction at redemption — then people can rely on physical properties for those banknotes.

If it requires an NFC connection to chech the current balance, why the banknote is different from a mobile wallet? It's only that if you hand it over, it does not require a transaction to wait for? If the lightning network starts there will be no (or very short) time needed to the LN transactions to complete.
Maybe the only thing which is different is the anonymity if someone hands over the banknote and this has no track in any database...

You do a beta test with bitcoin and after you can start to work with national currencies?

Question: Should this thread be here or in Scam Accusations?
I mean I know its more closely related to spam but still.. Meta doesn't seem like the right place to do it.
Neither...
As mentioned above, there's a dedicated topic in Meta, where everyone can report the copypasters:
...
2. We already have active thread to report them "https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1926895.260" ,OP do not require to create a new thread in Meta.
680  Other / Meta / Re: User Nicholasio: Created 16 topics in no time - Acceptable practice or spamming? on: May 05, 2018, 09:32:12 PM
Let the mods decide if it's spam or not...
But what happens if we don't allow newbies to open a huge number of topics in no time... it will free up some time for the mods, because there will be less reported topics to decide about...
This user is not a bot, but this behaviour looks like how bots create topics in no time... and there are a lot of them in the offtopic section...
