One that limits bitcoin from mainstream adoption is the 21 million cap on supply.

It really doesn't. The more valuable Bitcoin becomes, the more people start paying attention to satoshi units, and there is plenty enough of that to serve people in every corner of the world. On top of that, Lightning makes even satoshi units divisible, so there is even less unit scarcity than people think.

I have been playing with Lightning for over a month now due to all the new features mobile wallets added, and it's way easier to work with satoshi units than with 0.0000 whatever part of a Bitcoin. By the time Bitcoin has risen so much in value, we won't be saying 1BTC is worth $1 million for example, but a penny per satoshi.

I was not implying only the units. I was also talking about distribution. A cap on supply encourages hoarding, it also opens bitcoin to the problem of sustainability of security on fees alone. I predict that this might become another major crisis in bitcoin.

I also made a thread about it. None of the replies had the answer.

Is Bitcoin Fundamentally Incapable of Mass Adoption? The Economist Thinks So.

An article out today in the Economist lists several reasons why Bitcoin may never have a “long-lasting” recovery. The unnamed author writes, in part:

Quote
“The bust has been correspondingly brutal. Those who bought near the top were left with one of the world’s worst-performing assets. Cryptocurrency startups fired employees; banks shelved their products. On March 14th the CBOE said it would soon stop offering Bitcoin futures.”

so the Economist is basically declaring bitcoin dead? that's great news! this is the type of sentiment we need to put in a real long term bottom. at the top, everyone is interested. at the bottom, not so much. Wink

this all happened in 2014-15 too. merchants were dropping bitcoin, miners were liquidating operations, banks (like citibank) were shelving their crypto plans, exchanges were shutting down or exit scamming left and right. we've seen this before.

the CBOE futures listing never gained ground against CME. they marketed and packaged it badly and a re-tooling was necessary. i'm not sure it's just the crypto winter that caused them not to re-list the contract. CME is going full steam ahead as expected.

The title is clickbait, however, the article is not declaring that bitcoin is dead. I reckon we should face it, bitcoin has limitiations.

One that limits bitcoin from mainstream adoption is the 21 million cap on supply. Grin however might have a solution. I know that it is open to disagreement, but we are only in the early days of cryptoeconomics.

6983  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-03-29] Canadian Oil Companies are [Somehow] Mining Bitcoin on: March 30, 2019, 01:47:14 AM
The article never said who was mining. However, if they are, I reckon they might not have a longterm roadmap that goes beyond 20 years, after 4 halvings.

Also, the additional costs will be a problem. Maybe they only partnered with an industrial mining farm to sell excess electricity.
6984  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC on ESPN 2: Barboza vs Gaethje Prediction and Info Thread on: March 30, 2019, 12:41:19 AM
@Sithara007. I reckon Conor was asking too much from the UFC. According to some news adricles, he wanted ownership shares. However, he was told by Dana White that it was never going to happen.

Maybe this is another story board created by Conor and Dana to reboot Conor's MMA career hehehe.

Dana (i.e UFC) can survive without Conor (may be they'll lose a few hundred thousand Irish supporters). But can Conor survive without UFC? I don't know whether the rumors are true or not. If he is demanding the ownership shares, then I would say that he is bargaining too hard. Needs to be realistic about your demands...

Conor can survive comfortably hehehe. He made more the $100mil in his fighting career and he also has Proper no.12, his whisky distillery which is killing it according to Dana.

Also, why will Conor not buy the shares? Why does he want the UFC to give it to him as an offering?
6985  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-03-28] North Korean Hackers Don’t Give a $#%! about Crypto Winter on: March 29, 2019, 04:20:26 AM
Why should they?
It is "easy" money for them in some cases. It doesn't matter if we are in a bearish or in a bull market there is a chance for hackers in making money anonymously so they don't miss the chance to do it even in the Crypto Winter.

agreed. those who think about crypto winter are traders, speculators, or 'investors'. for those who can hack an exchange, it doesn't really matter how much Bitcoin or crypto worth, they can still make a ton in a short time.

It has always been cryptochristmas for all the hackers who have not been caught yet hehehe. The best hacker or group of hackers of them all is the Dao hacker. No one has gotten any leads on who he is or who they are.
6986  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [2019-02-06] Locked bitcoins in QuadrigaCX might be another exit scam. on: March 29, 2019, 03:33:07 AM
Another news update.

Whatever QuadrigaCX was, it is becoming clearer after every news update that it was not functioning only as an exchange. It was also something else. If it is proven true for QuadrigaCX, we can assume that it might be true for many of the other exchanges.

In a recent article published on CoinDesk, Christine Duhaime – a regulatory attorney in Canada who was hired by the exchange for a short period of time in 2015 – explained that Cotten was guiding his exchange down a precarious path long before his death.

Duhaime noted that her time at the company came to an abrupt end shortly after Cotten decided that he no longer wanted the exchange to be a listed company, which was directly proceeded by him firing all the employees that were, in his mind, “law and order” people.

“Gerald Cotten made the decision that he no longer wanted QuadrigaCX to be a listed company. On that day, he terminated the professionals that were, in his mind, the ‘law and order’ folks – the accountant, the auditor and me, the regulatory attorney,” she explained.

Furthermore, after this occurred, Duhaime explains that Cotten began running the exchange as if it has “no investors, no shareholders, no regulatory agencies and no law that applied to it – no corporate law, no securities law, no anti-money-laundering law and no contract law.”

I want to learn all this! Can someone give me links to threads, discussions and articles about single chip and multichip Asics and why single chip Asics are undesirable specifically in Grin?

Google is not much help.

@RivAngE. Thank you. The all time difficulty chart is good enough.

@Zadicar. I reckon it might be something similar to what Floyd Mayweather is doing. He comes out of retirement only if the money offered is high enough for him.
6991  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price Breakout Scheduled for August, Says Fundstrat’s Tom Lee on: March 28, 2019, 01:38:11 AM
I reckon we need a new bitcoin price prediction expert to laugh on. Someone who is the opposite of Tom Lee hehehe.

Any suggestions? I need a bitcoin bear.

I have noticed, that it is becoming common to put a women fight on on the main card.
Few years ago women in ufc were something new, now almost every event has 1-2 fights.

Some women fights are more watchable than men fights unsurprisingly if the girls fighting are 2 beautiful women hehehe.

Both are 33 years old and nearing the end of their career. IMO, the best lady out there is Maryna Moroz of Ukraine. She recently lost to Angela Hill in a very keenly contested match (unanimous decision after 3rd round), but her performance was awesome.

33 years old but looking better than most 18 year olds hehehehe. Certainly in this modern time of fast food, tv entertainment and video games.

Also, Conor has announced his retirement from MMA.

6993  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2013-03-23] 95% of Reported Bitcoin Trading Volume Is 'Fake' on: March 28, 2019, 12:50:25 AM
Would you also reckon that it is also possible that many of those exchanges with fake volumes are a part of a global money laundering ring?
It could very well be yeah. Most of the exchanges in crypto are unregulated, and plan to stay unregulated. If your goal was to gain ground as legitimate and compliant exchange, which Coinbase is, you are completely open and willing to go for it.

Some exchanges do ask for KYC verification, but that's just an attempt to shake off unwanted attention from authorities. We don't know what's going on behind the scenes and they still are an unregulated entity.

Binance mildly started to ask for more personal information, but there is a reason they don't want to become regulated, and money laundering might be part of that, or maybe they just want to continue making insane amounts of money as they are doing now.

I might be totally wrong on the money laundering aspect, but I somehow feel there is something shady going on with Binance.

I reckon that a sign that exchanges are being used for money laundering are exchanges that have a lower than average price of bitcoin trading in them similar to BTCe. This might be because they are bitcoin to fiat exit points.

@stoffu. That was honestly my first impression. They potentially left the real argument out to hide the most effective statement in your proposal.

Will Aeon be the first Sha3 cryptocoin if we follow your proposal? I tried searching but I did not find one.

In any case, I reckon Karolina is the real karate hottie, but I predict Michelle Waterson will win this, however. She has improved her clinching where it showed during her fight vs Felice Herrig.
6997  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Motosport General discussion tread --- Formula1, MotoGP, WTCC, ETCC, DTM..... on: March 27, 2019, 01:26:19 AM
I reckon the warmer track temperatures of Bahrain might be what Ferrari needs to win the race. Barcelona had warmer temperatures and they did very good in testing before the season started.

In any case, if Ferrari ends behind Redbull again, I reckon that the Honda engine might be more powerful than what was first thought of it.

Hey I feel it’s just not about the tracks it’s about the winning mindset that Ferrari has been lacking since quiet a while now. Also did you hear that Williams have found a major problem with their car, and they won’t be able to fix it anytime soon. It’s also pertinent to note that McLaren has threatened to quit F1, I really doubt they’ll quit as this threat looks more like a negotiation technique to me.

Ferrari has always been in a fightning mindset since Sebastian arrived, however. They almost had a championship season if they did not have team and driver errors on the 2nd half last year.

6999  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2013-03-23] 95% of Reported Bitcoin Trading Volume Is 'Fake' on: March 27, 2019, 12:07:51 AM
But I'm not sure about that. It's possible that crypto currencies have been traded more aggressively than stocks, and then the volumes on CMC are more or less correct.
Nah. It wouldn't surprise me if the volumes of most altcoins are for 98% fake. Exchanges are incentivized to continue pumping up their volumes because their competitors do that as well.

If one exchange reports $10 million in volume, the other will push it to $12 million, then another one does $15 million, and this continues till these manipulative exchanges implode (which I do hope to see happen sooner rather than later).

The amount of garbage we have to go through here is mind boggling. Instead of seeing markets mature, we're going backwards where people don't even seem to care about it anymore....

How do cryptocoin exchanges with fake volume earn money if they are only wash trading with themselves? Also, why are they doing this?
7000  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: China Center for Information and Industry Development altcoin pumps on: March 25, 2019, 03:05:16 AM
It is surprising to know that the rankings came from the government. I do not think it's proper for government to rank  censorship resistance/decentralized blockchain. They will end giving undue advantages to  government friendly centralized blockchains

It is not a part of the Chinese government, I already edited my original post. It is a ranking service run by private consulting firm. However, it does not change that it might be corrupt and that it might be under the influence of certain Chinese billionaires who have invested in some projects in the cryptospace.

CCID Consulting was the first Chinese consulting firm listed in the Growth Enterprise Market (GEM, Chinese: 創業板) of Hong Kong Stock Exchange, and is a direct affiliate to the China Center for Information Industry Development (CCID Group). Headquartered in Beijing, CCID Consulting has branch offices in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Nanjing, Wuhan and Chengdu, with over 300 professional consultants.
