6121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [AEON] Aeon Speculation on: October 04, 2019, 02:31:22 AM
@bigslimvdub. That does not imply that there was a big attraction on Aeon before this bear market, however. We remained a small project during 2017's bull market and I reckon it will be similar during the next bull market.
6122  Economy / Speculation / Re: Q4 -Quarter 4 speculation thread, where will 2019 end, join the LIST on: October 04, 2019, 01:26:29 AM
Tom Lee oh Tom Lee where art thou my Tom Lee.

#Shakesperean haiku

No change in my prediction. Always $25k, for Tom Lee hehehe.
6123  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-09-29] A Dangerous Bug in Bitcoin’s Lightning Network Has Been Fixed on: October 04, 2019, 12:49:08 AM
@1Referee. Unknown bugs and attack vectors are fud? Will it stop to be fud only until someone loses his money because of a bug in the Lightning network?
6124  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum Never Designed for Scalability on: October 03, 2019, 02:49:54 AM
Never designed for scalability but that didn't stop them from promoting it as "the world computer".

I have great respect for Vitalik as a nerd but he's too often sounding like a shyster. Make up your mind, is it the world computer, or your backyard computer.

Agreed! The community should also learn how to distinguish between scamming and confident hopefulness. Both of them can be similar hehehe.
6125  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [news] EOS Maker Block. One Settles With SEC Over Unregistered Securities Sale on: October 03, 2019, 02:13:09 AM
They are paying the fee voluntarily to continue developing their projects undisturbed. I speculate that the scam ICOs will never settle and they are beginning to formulate their exit scam plans. Wait for those news articles hehehe.

Boston-based Nebulous, makers of the Sia network for decentralized data storage, has settled with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) over an unregistered securities offering and conversion scheme.

In a blog post Tuesday, the company announced the settlement without admitting fault. It will pay disgorgement of $120,000, prejudgment interest of $24,602 and a civil money penalty of $80,000. At the time of the 2014 token sale, Nebulous raised approximately $120,000.

The Sia settlement comes just a day after the announcement of Block. One’s $24 million settlement with the SEC for the EOS maker’s $4.1 billion securities sale.

6126  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: MLB playoff discussion on: October 02, 2019, 04:21:36 AM
I Like the Rays, Yankees, Astros, Braves and Diamondbacks, any of these teams could very well make it!

As far as my final predictions for the Finals. I am going for the underdogs.

I would like to see Astros vs the Braves. With the Astros going all the way!

Astros are a great team. I made money off of betting them this year. Atleast we know now that it is playoff season the starters and best pitchers should be well rested. I think we are in for some good games.

I like the cardinals as well as they can sink some buckets but I would not bet them to win. If I bet cardinals I bet the over as they can score but the games are always to close for comfort!

The Diamondbacks are not in the playoffs hehe.

Agreed on the Astros. They have the best chance to be in the world series versus maybe the Yankees from the American league. However, I wish it would be the Dodgers versus the Yankees hehehe.
6127  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: October 02, 2019, 03:57:59 AM
This GSP vs. Khabib again.

GSP is getting older so don't expect him to push himself again to fight at 155. He doesn't need this fight. He is open for it but he would not lose sleep if the fight doesn't materialize due to the weight terms. Khabib, on the other hand, can easily move up in weight to make this happen. I'm pretty sure the contract would have been signed already if only the the fighters, not including UFC and the managers, will talk.

I reckon that it might take 6 months or more for an older fighter like him. Also, not only to lose the weight but lose it and be in the best fighting condition.

@seoincorporation. Khabib will handle and smesh Nate for 5 rounds hehehe.
6128  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [news] EOS Maker Block. One Settles With SEC Over Unregistered Securities Sale on: October 02, 2019, 02:45:36 AM
I am literally shaking my head. What is this? It appears that the settlement is really a payment for Block One and EOS to continue on without liabilities from the American government.

I predict more payments from other projects to the SEC to continue hehehe.

In any case, is this a silent surrender made by the SEC because they cannot stop the ICOs? Has the cryptospace won?

Dan Larimer, the tamer of SEC

EOS maker Block. One must pay $24 million in penalties for conducting an unregistered securities sale, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced Monday evening.

The SEC said in a press release that Block. One “raised the equivalent of several billion dollars” over a one-year period in an unregistered initial coin offering (ICO). (A total of $4.1 billion was raised.) Block. One agreed to settle the charges, according to the SEC.

The fine amounts to 0.58 percent of the initial raise.

Notably, the press release highlighted that Block. One’s token sale began shortly before the SEC released its DAO Report but “continued for nearly a year after the report’s publication.” The company did not secure an exemption from securities registration requirements and did not otherwise register the sale, the SEC said.

In its own press release, Block. One said the settlement only applies to the sale of the original ERC-20 token it sold. EOS holders swapped their ethereum-based tokens with the proper EOS tokens when the network first went live.

More significantly, Block. One’s statement said that its ERC-20 token is no longer in circulation “and will not require the token to be registered as a security with the SEC.”

6129  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-09-29] A Dangerous Bug in Bitcoin’s Lightning Network Has Been Fixed on: October 02, 2019, 02:18:43 AM
@BitHodler. I am skeptical. They might be fake.
I'm obviously skeptical too, but we can't rule out any of these claims either. I'm trying to find the conversation on Twitter where I read the complaints but without success. My browser deletes history upon exit. I'll keep searching.

Maybe that Carlton Banks can hop in to shed light on this matter as he is much closer to the workings and progress on the side of the developers, but I'm not sure if he's going to do so because it might feed the skeptics and haters.

In any case, I did not intend for this to irritate some people when I said Lightning network can quickly transform bitcoin as secure money into bitcoin, the unsafe money. But it did in a way, however.
It's important to choose your words wisely, because there is no other way to decipher what you wrote. Not the first time though....

I know I might be wrong sometimes, however, is it not right for someone to criticize, to question and to make skeptical comments in the forum anymore? Is it deserving for someone to be accused of opening a discussion because I only want attention?

The argument does not need to be deciphered. No one agreed because it is an unpopular opinion. Bitcoin transactions might be insecure in the Lightning network because of unknown bugs and attack vectors. True or false?

6131  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [news] Binance Launches Staking Platform with Support for 8 Cryptocurrencies on: October 01, 2019, 01:27:23 AM
This is actually a good news for those who prefer to hold their coins into Binance as they now can start staking instead of simply holding the coins there but after I have read the staking returns are actually lower than if you would have staked for yourself ? at least it seems so. This might be only the first initiative of them as only 8 projects have this support now and for sure more and more will come but the coin must be listed on BNB before to enable this feature. Would be nice to see a masternode feature on BNB, I would definitely use it if they list low ranked masternodes.

However, would it be good for the project if Binance is staking more than 50% of the total percentage? I reckon that would be something similar to a 51% attack on bitcoin.

Also, would this not give Binance too much power on voting in masternode coins?
6132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin wallets on older iphones are insecure on: October 01, 2019, 01:11:20 AM
It always surprises me how willing people are to place their entire lives on their phones in a way no one would ever have dreamed of a generation ago. Even worse, most phone manufacturers will abandon you security wise after a year or so. There are people running around with truly ancient devices with gaping holes.

It is only business. You are required by the vendor to upgrade your hardware to run the updated software. I reckon the solution would be to create opensource hardware and software devices where the community can continue its maintenance and security updates.
This is a bad business. The planned obsolescence tactics help maintain sales in a saturated market, but I don’t want to change my smartphone every year, simply because the manufacturer is too concerned about its financial performance. This is a serious problem that goes beyond the scope of this topic.

Agreed. However, I speculate that there will be a smart CEO who would take a different direction in the smartphone business that might utilize opensource hardware and software and also modularity of the devices.

It will be the smarter smartphone hehehe.
6133  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-09-29] A Dangerous Bug in Bitcoin’s Lightning Network Has Been Fixed on: October 01, 2019, 12:45:10 AM
@BitHodler. I am skeptical. They might be fake.

In any case, are the receivers of channels not required to verify the amount of the funding transactions?

If you're connecting to peers running old versions of lnd, then yes.

Agreed because nothing happened. However, there was a dangerous bug that would have been exploited. What would the news be if someone exploited the bug?

I suppose there would be nasty sounding headlines for a few days and then everyone would move on? People working on Lightning have repeated ad nauseam, "don't put funds on LN that you can't afford to lose."

Now there is a pull request to the specification to add the requirement. Bottom line, we'll have a more robust specification now. This is what beta testing is all about.

The old versions required verification of the amount of funding transactions? I assumed the old version did not and the new version did.

In any case, I did not intend for this to irritate some people when I said Lightning network can quickly transform bitcoin as secure money into bitcoin, the unsafe money. But it did in a way, however.
6134  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Spence Jr vs Porter on: September 30, 2019, 03:33:13 AM

Spence promised a knockout and didn't deliver. He's not the champion he thinks he is.

Later at the end of the post-fight press conference Spence was then heard saying he will beat Thurman, Garcia etc, and after the fight he dared to drop Pacquaios name lol.

Thurman beat Porter by UD, and Pacquiao beat Thurman, Spence gets whooped by the Pacman.

We would never know if Pacquiao can still fight toe to toe with younger boxers. I think Manny should hang his gloves. Anyways, I want to see how he would fight against Thurman. This would be an interesting fight since they are both young and talented boxers.

Where have you been all this time, Pacquiao just dominated Thurman, and the boxing world is all praises for Pacquiao for showing that he is more younger than Thurman, what made you think that Pacquiao cannot beat Spence, there we go again doubters, Pacquiao always makes this doubters eat their words.

Another question is - would Pacquiao's camp be willing to fight with Spence Jr, if in case he will go inside the ring one last time? What would be at stake on this fight? Is it important for him to fight with Spence? Another boxer trying to get a good paycheck by asking Pacquiao's fist.

Pacman will only be fighting someone who can give him more money. Who else would that be except Floyd Mayweather? Terrence Crawford, Errol Spence? I reckon they would be a big risk. Promoters should pay Pacman more if they want him to fight either of them.

In any case, I thought Shawn Porter was winning the fight. He was more aggressive and appeared more wanting to win it.
6135  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-09-27] Hyperinflation Forces Venezuelan Central Bank to Explore Bitcoin on: September 30, 2019, 03:05:13 AM
@Carlton Banks. It was not a bait. I did laugh.

@1Referee. I should have highlighted the whole statement on the article.

The Central Bank of Venezuela is exploring whether to hold Bitcoin and Ethereum in its international reserves.

The assumption that they are exploring Ethereum to be held in their international reserves is already very funny. They might not have done the proper research hehehe.

However, if you think Ethereum is a success, it will not be funny. But, following Vitalik and listening to him pivot from a direction to another direction, I reckon Ethereum might not achieve what it was created to do.

if you think that's right, you obviously don't understand what happened

and if it's that easy to fool yourself into thinking something that's not true, it would be really easy for you to get tricked by other people.

Wise up

6138  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Spence Jr vs Porter on: September 29, 2019, 02:49:15 AM
What would a victory for Errol Spence imply for his next fight? Would it be versus Terrence Crawford? I reckon there is no fight that would be more exciting other than that except Pacman versus Money Floyd or Tyson Fury versus Deontay Wilder.

I doubt that, reason being is boxing politics (very sad), Spence is calling Pacquiao even after accepting the Porter fight so for sure that will be their number one priority. Otherwise, it will be on the same stable of fighters or PBC.

We wanted to see a Crawford match, but since Bud is on the Arum's stable of fighters, I doubt that they can negotiate and see who is the best in 147 lbs division.

It would be a better career decision for Errol Spence, however. There will be more money and Pacman might be the easier fighter for him than Terrence Crawford which might also pay him less hehe.

However, I shake my head on how the Lightning network can quickly transform bitcoin as secure money into bitcoin, the unsafe money.

Do not listen to people who are encouraging everyone to be reckless.

A popular payments network running atop the bitcoin blockchain suffered from a long-standing code vulnerability – one where attackers could drain users’ of their money.

While initially flagged to the public on Aug. 30 by bitcoin developer Rusty Russell, the full disclosure detailing how this vulnerability could be exploited by an attacker was released Friday.

“An attacker can claim to open a [lighting payments] channel but either not pay to the peer, or not pay the full amount,” Russell wrote in the full disclosure.

Without the proper checks, an attacker could pretend to open a new payments channel and send fake transactions. Being duped, an honest user could then send back real money to the attacker not knowing the previous transactions had been completely artificial. It’s unclear how many users fell victim to such attacks.

Lightning developers, he added, did not want to risk revealing the vulnerability until absolutely sure no users were at risk.

“There are always problems. Even on the bitcoin protocol, there have been bugs,” Padiou said, adding:

"There will always be bugs. What matters the most is how to handle this in the best way to protect users."

6140  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin wallets on older iphones are insecure on: September 29, 2019, 01:16:11 AM
The people that go to cryptocoin conferences should be more skeptical if their iphone was lost and then returned to them by a good samaritan hehehe.

In any case, sharing this article here instead of the press subforum for more views. Keep your iphones safe.

Litecoin Foundation’s full-time developer, Loshan T recently stated on Twitter that Bitcoin and Litecoin wallets were no longer safe on iPhones older than and including iPhone X. This was followed by the developer recommending users to upgrade their iPhone devices, considering that several people use smartphone according to Litecoin Foundation’s internal data. Additionally, Loshan explicity stated that updating iOS would not solve the problem as it is “an unpatchable exploit.”

Loshan made the statement in the wake of a Tweet made by Axi0mX. The Twitter handle had stated,

“EPIC JAILBREAK: Introducing checkm8 (read “checkmate”), a permanent unpatchable bootrom exploit for hundreds of millions of iOS devices. Most generations of iPhones and iPads are vulnerable: from iPhone 4S (A5 chip) to iPhone 8 and iPhone X (A11 chip).”
