6081  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-11-10] CFTC says Bitcoin AND ETH are Commodity on: October 15, 2019, 02:00:56 AM
ETH was ICO - doesn't work as promised and goes PoS - Vitalik controlled, is even more what a security defines ( Shares = right to min and earn dividends )
It was an ICO, but it's current status is no longer that---what it is known as today is a POW network---therefore is put in the same category as Bitcoin. People may not agree with that but things are as they are.

As for Ethereum being Vitalik controlled, maybe, but his influence on what happens is declining as time goes by. Important is that the CFTC doesn't look at Ethereum like that because they continue to call it a decentralized crypto.

Regarding POS, it's not certain yet that it will happen. The CFTC just focuses on how Ethereum runs today, not how it might run in 2020 and after. I don't consider Ethereum a security either. Bitcoin bulls on the other hand do. Cheesy
Agreed, I think they actually had a thread on this very forum for their ICO, and it was the first successful ICO that was ever run, here's the link I found.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=428589.0

That's a piece of history there.

I don't really like CFTC's sorting of the coins, I think bitcoin needs to be in its own section, but what you are saying does make sense.

How many of the ICO coins did they issue to investors and to themselves and how much of the total are mined Ethereum coins? What is the ratio?
6082  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [NEWS] U.S. Regulators Sue Crypto Startup Telegram Over Initial Coin Offering on: October 15, 2019, 01:18:25 AM
Everyone might not have understood what is happening or what my comment on the article was saying. What occured might be the beginning of a form of failure by the SEC to regulate the industries and end up with the industries dominating the SEC.

Why was EOS only asked to pay a fee to continue operating while Telegram was sued?
6083  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Motosport General discussion tread --- Formula1, MotoGP, WTCC, ETCC, DTM..... on: October 14, 2019, 02:43:17 AM
@coinlocket. Agreed. Monaco is the trophy that every driver dreams about. I reckon that if there was a plan to remove it, another prestigious street race should replace it. Maybe London or Paris?

In any case, another Mercedes constructors championship. When is the engine change hehehe?
6084  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: MLB playoff discussion on: October 14, 2019, 02:15:01 AM
@mich. Baseball is not similar to basketball or most other team sports, I reckon. The skeptical me thinks the news article is made to create some interest in the championship series which became unexciting when the Nationals won versus the Dodgers hehe.

@notblox1. Agreed! However, Kron the sadomasochist can take the punisment hehehe. Also, he must learn how to use level changes and wrestling single or double leg takedowns together with his jiujitsu. Walking to his opponent whole striking will not always work.
6086  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-11-10] CFTC says Bitcoin AND ETH are Commodity on: October 13, 2019, 03:40:11 AM
@1Referee. That is not the argument. The argument is Vitalik's ICO prospectus was to build scalable dapps on Ethereum. However, they admit that they knew Ethereum was never going to be scalable in a developer conference. What was that? An admission of failure?

Also, Ethereum will not create a layer 2. It will reboot to a scalable Ethereum 2.0. What is that again?
6087  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Errol Spence Jr. Vs Manny Pacquiao on: October 12, 2019, 04:13:41 AM
I reckon his managers and his fight promoter might be now more open to negotiations on giving him the best fights possible after this accident. It might be too late, however.

Not really, according to the news his in stable condition right now. Lucky, he didnt get any broken bones and fractures. He only had facial lacerations maybe caused by the broken windshields or some sharp objects thrown towards him. I guess, thats the perks of being an athlete with your body trained so hard that you still managed to be in a stable condition after the car flipped over multiple times.
I hope it wont bother his mental health such as post traumatic stress after the accident that could potentially affect his focus and preparations for his upcoming fights.

It is the perks of driving a car with a good interior built for safety and security in case of a high speed accident hehehe.

Some news articles said he did not wear his seat belt. He is very lucky, however, that Ferrari interior certainly helped hehe.
6088  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-11-10] CFTC says Bitcoin AND ETH are Commodity on: October 12, 2019, 03:54:24 AM
@1Referee. What growth? Ethereum cannot scale. They already admitted to this despite marketing the platform as a world computer back when they were beginning development.

Also, Vitalik is Ethereum. Ethereum will be whatever platform Vitalik says is Ethereum and the community would follow it.
6089  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [NEWS] U.S. Regulators Sue Crypto Startup Telegram Over Initial Coin Offering on: October 12, 2019, 03:36:28 AM
It appears that some ICO investors might have the right connections in the American government and would allow the ICO they hold pay a fine to continue operating in American soil undisturbed. Some do not and are sued.

Next ICO buying strategy, research and be certain which venture capitalists and hedgefunds that invested in the ICO are politicaly connected hehehe.

U.S. regulators sued a company that raised $1.7 billion through a cryptocurrency offering that became one of the largest such deals ever.

The Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday said it obtained a legal order to halt Telegram Group Inc. from distributing its crypto asset, known as gram. Telegram, founded by two Russian brothers, developed a messaging app that is popular with cryptocurrency traders and developers.

The SEC’s order seeks to block the company from distributing as soon as next week in the U.S. an asset that regulators say can’t legally be traded in the country.

“Our emergency action today is intended to prevent Telegram from flooding the U.S. markets with digital tokens that we allege were unlawfully sold,” said Stephanie Avakian, co-director of the SEC’s enforcement division.

Earlier this month, an overseas-based startup behind another large coin offering agreed to pay $24 million to settle the SEC’s allegations that its deal violated U.S. law.

The SEC has said many of the fundraising deals violate U.S. securities laws because the startups behind them didn’t provide investors with required disclosures that explain the company’s finances and business model.

@LTU_btc. Which might really be the ideal schedule for the teams and their drivers if this sport was not a business hehe.

Also, bet for Max to win? It might be a wet race.

@RivAngE. Also, Grin's monetary policy removes moon math, removes the early holders advantage and makes it more fair for late adopters.

I love bitcoin, however, there might be something in its monetary policy that is preventing it from wider distribution.
6092  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] AEON [2019-09-27: Upgrade to version 0.13.0.0 ASAP HF@1146200 Oct 25] on: October 11, 2019, 04:03:17 AM
I think the coingecko dev rating is actually based on some metrics about commits, issues, etc. from GitHub. At least that's what it was a few years ago.

It must be correct, with the code refactor and other development work done on Aeon and this new coming hard fork. We are very undervalued, we should be more than 10% of Monero's price!

@bigslimvdub. What guide?
6093  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2019-10-07 CNBC - ‘We’re closer than we’ve ever been’ to bitcoin ETF approval on: October 11, 2019, 03:15:59 AM
Rejected. However, the good news is no one might be caring anymore. Bitcoin is up regardless of this bad news hehehe. The hype behind it, approved or rejected, has clearly gone.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has rejected the latest attempt at creating a bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF).

The SEC announced Wednesday that the ETF proposal, filed by Bitwise Asset Management in conjunction with NYSE Arca, did not meet legal requirements to prevent market manipulation or other illicit activities. The SEC placed the burden on NYSE Arca, rather than Bitwise’s proposal itself.

To date, the SEC has rejected all bitcoin ETF proposals, citing market manipulation and fraudulent activity concerns.

The rejection by SEC on the Bitwise Investments ETF proposal is not surprising to me as the odds are really against it. I think that SEC for now is not inclined in any way to approve of such a platform due to the many grounds cited in the decision which had been the same reasons for the rejections of other ETF applications in the past. To the SEC commissioners, this is not the right time, the market is not really ready for ETF and there is no adequate infrastructure and parameters in placed to counteract possible manipulations and frauds. Surprisingly, there seems to be no pull on Bitcoin by this negative decision and this means that we are all past waiting for any ETF approval and in reality ETF does not matter at all as the whole industry has already moved on without it.

The reasons cited seem to be merely excuses for rejection, not the main reasons. At root I think the main reason is that it is not controlled by any governmental agencies and that alone is enough for rejection in the short term.

Agreed. Price manipulation was also mentioned. They do not want to give that privilege to the people outside the privileged. Similar to the privilege of money laundering which the cryptospace opens for everyone.

If Libra is released, I predict a Libra ETF approved before any bitcoin ETF hehehe.

i have seen Javier Mendez telling that when Khabib came to the gym initially he never used to wear protective gears nor mouth piece even while training and even if his coach ask him to do so he will never listen because when he competed in combat sambo there was groin strikes and head butt and Khabib fought and never got defeated and he was not comfortable wearing all the protective gears and that shows his mentality.

Exactly. I would suggest McNugget Fans to watch "Anatomy of a fighter" youtube series just to get an idea where the guy comes from. When you have been trained for war the ring is nothing. A 'cut' is nothing when you have been training for your whole life both Mentally and Physically. The only way I see Khabib going down is by a TKO, else I don't see how he ends up on the losing side.

However, Conor was the only fighter to win a round versus Khabib. I reckon that with more focus on training and none on the drink and cocaine, he might give the fans a more competitive fight.

Not exaclty sure how this rating is calculated, but Aeon is #2 among cryptonote coins sorted by "Developer" rating.
https://www.coingecko.com/en?hashing_algorithm=Cryptonight&view=gecko

It calculated that stoffu and smooth are more capable than the other cryptonote coins' development teams hehehe. Which is true, however.

@stoffu. Thank you!

@plast555. I reckon that its monetary policy is making the biggest difference on how Grin is taking the change in coin distribution and adoption.

Beam is after bitcoin's moon math, while Grin is taking it in another direction. An infinite supply might make it sustainable for miners and more stable for the economy accepting Grin, assuming that it is widely adopted.

Is there a date for Pacman versus Errol Spence already? I reckon that we should have only one boxing gambling thread instead of creating new threads of fights similar to this one that might not be organized or promoted.

Also, agreed on all arguments that we boxer never see the best boxer is because of promoters' interests.

@Bttzed03. I am a baseball casual hehehe. I only watch it more closely on the post season. The regular season is hard to follow because there are so many games.

@wheelz1200. The Cardinals are in. I hope they play in the championship series versus the Dodgers.
