701  Other / Meta / Re: Legendary one day? on: April 29, 2018, 11:32:35 AM
I'm wondering if it's possible for the Hero members to check somehow if they have already reached the activity limit to become a Legendary, and it's only Merits that holds the rank up process back.
This is only a problem of the Hero members who already reached the 775 activity (and haven't reached 1030), but don't have 1000 Merits. Before the merit system, if you have reached the 775 activity limit, you were waiting for every second Tuesday to see if you have ranked up to Legendary or not, and if you were really unlucky, you had to wait until 1030 activity to become a Legendary, but as soon as you have reached the activity limit, you became a Legendary.
After the Merit system, those Hero members who were so unlucky that they there were only a few activity periods away from the rank up minimum of the Legendary rank, now are in a doubt, they don't know if they have already reached their personal activity limit and they only need to gather Merits (if they are below the 1030 activity), or they still need to gather the activity too, because they haven't reached their limit already.
I know this is only really minor part of the userbase, but I hope someone can understand the motivation behind this post Smiley
I also know that for most of the users it doesn't matter if they know that they have reached the activity limit and they need only the merits or they have to gather both (because it doesn't matter in the end), but from my point of view, it can be a motivation to see that someone has already managed to gather the necessary activity and only have to harden the efforts to deliver quality content to gain enough merits to rank up...
702  Other / Meta / Re: Is there a way to discover which report was not accurate? on: April 29, 2018, 11:14:16 AM
....
How difficult would it be to provide access to a list with our failed reports?

Not unless theymos changes it. I think people should be able to see their recent history though and reports marked good or bad. Would help people figure out what should and shouldnb't be reported.
I'm also interested in a kind of feedback about the reported posts. As long as I'm 100% it doesn't really matter but as soon as I'll have my first failure, I'll be really interested in the details.

Idea:
I'm sure that a huge % of the reports contains specific problems like spam, copypaste, offtopic, google translate ICO ANN, bump, etc...
Why not to have a brief list with radio buttons for the specific problems, and a last one with input text box, if the problem with the post doesn't fit into any of the above mentioned ones.
I'm sure that if you check 10 reports for the same issue, there would be at least 10 kind of definition about the issue with the post. Maybe it would be easier also for mods to see the issue (marked from the list) promptly, without having to read thru the reporter's sentences...
703  Other / Meta / Re: My posts are deceasing? on: April 29, 2018, 10:56:55 AM
Nowdays you can see a lot of topics that are locked in the Bitcoin Discussion thread, and another bunch of topics are deleted without prior notice.
The reason is simple: Those topics had 1000+ replies usually, newbies and spammers used to use those topics to post there meaningless posts without any new additional information to the subject of the topic. This was the place where they were able to increase their activity count, so admins have decided to get rid of the spam megathreads and deleted a lot of topics (and of course the posts were also deleted automatically, no matter if they were brilliant (if there were any) or spam (99,9%).
If a post of a user gets deleted, it decreases the post count, which can affect the activity count, if there were at least 14 posts deleted.
So posting in a topic that has a lot of replies already don't worth the effort, usually those topics are locked (better scenario) or deleted (worst scenario, in connection with the user's post count), if they become a heaven for spammers later on...
704  Other / Meta / Re: Easiest Steps to get Merit on: April 28, 2018, 08:25:34 PM

wow. what a incredable and awesome post sir!.
by the way. i see'ing and i observe that only 45% of this furom not related to merit. so came-on guys dont be over thinking of miret. lit the miret cames to you and dont set to your mind that you need to gain a lot of miret.
I usually don't reply or quote posts like this but using the "miret" instead of the Merit several times in one sentence (which means it's not a simple typo but something else...) is something I need to stop and have a closer look...
For the members like Legendary, Hero, maybe the Sr. Member, it took years to gain enough activity, knowledge, experience, etc... to reach their rank. They were just doing their job and posting useful things here on the forum (of course there were also spammers that time as well), and they were waiting with patience for a long time.
Nowdays newbies and junior members are complaining after a week or a month because of the merits, and they want everything now, they can't wait...
I think the merit system still needs some time to become as efficient as it was planned to be, so we need to wait a bit more. Sooner or later people will find out what the merit system is about and spammers will understand that if they want to continue to rank their user up, they have to create quality content...
705  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Relief In Crypto Taxation: France Brings Crypto Taxes Down To 19% on: April 27, 2018, 09:49:16 PM
There's no need to look outside Europte to find 0% tax on crypto, it's Germany, the neighbour of France has a really different tax policy on cryptos. But to be positive, it's a good decision from France to decrease the taxes on cryptos. Somewhere I have read that it's an EU policy what Germany has implemented, so all of the EU members would have to implement it sooner or later, but we need to wait for that...
706  Other / Meta / Re: Where can I find new members to award with merits on: April 27, 2018, 08:27:21 PM
I do not have a lot of sMerit to share, yet even I can't find enough "new" members to reward... The quality of new posters' messages is appalling, either shilling, begging, Engrishing, Marinecoining or spamming. So I've decided to simply reward those who deserve it, no matter what his rank is. If he is a Hero or Legendary member, so be it.
It's a really good idea, Hero members needs to gather 500 merits to rank up just one level, and everyone is just looking for newbies and jr. members to send merits to them, and nobody cares about the Heros...
(You know, the real Heros also need merits just like the newbies and the others Tongue )
I also send merit to Heros and Legendary members, because it seems that in the end, the post quality is somehow determined by the rank (or you can find some decents posts easier if you search among Legendaries and not newbies...)

707  Other / Meta / Re: Against newbie topics on the Bitcoin discussion board - again... on: April 27, 2018, 05:24:50 AM
We did see a lot of topics being locked in the past couple of weeks. So that's a start.
But if somehow we can prevent the Boards from newbie spammers, mods will have more time for the other parts of the forum
The only reason why the newbie jail/whatever is not being implemented is that, legitimate users are not able to do much with so many restrictions. A lot of them don't know English and a lot of them don't know that something called bounty campaigns exist. The spam has comparatively reduced. Its not less now,but it has reduced. Reporting should work out just fine.
Locking topic is a kind of solution for the short term. Unfortunately newbies don't care about existing or non-extisting topics if they need to grow their post count, some of them post wherever they want (even offtopic things or one-liners) but some of them don't mind to open topics for questions that already have existing topic...
708  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Germany gives tax exemption for bitcoin exchange operators on: April 26, 2018, 08:51:57 PM
Idea:
What I would do is the following: opening a small shop at the biggest airport's duty free zone in Germany and would sell jewellery or anything that's small in size but really expensive and I would advertise myself with the bitcoin acceptance.
Also I would offer a kind of compensation (paying e.g. 50% of the airplane ticket to home) for the customers if they just fly to Germany to buy jewellery at the airport with bitcoin.
I know this sounds weird now, but if it's legal somewhere to spend your bitcoins, it can make people to think about visiting that place.
709  Other / Meta / Against newbie topics on the Bitcoin discussion board - again... on: April 26, 2018, 07:49:47 PM
I had a look at the Bitcoin discussion board, and found the spamming megathreads reopened again:
E.g.:
What is the best way to buy bitcoins?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3406222.msg35653872#msg35653872
How do you cashout from bitcoin?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3406904.msg35662104#msg35662104
is it the rise of bitcoin ?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3407018.msg35663382#msg35663382
Who is Satoshi nakamoto ?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3407051.msg35663884#msg35663884
bitcoin is better than gold.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3407099.msg35664483#msg35664483

And this is only 1 newbie (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2022457;sa=showPosts)
And it took only 2,5 hours from the registration to copy the titles of some of the most "interesting" topics, to restart spamming (or just to gain activity....)
And the spammers are gathering, some topics have answers already...

Is that true that we can do nothing else but reporting the posts one by one?

Edit:
Mods were quick
But if somehow we can prevent the Boards from newbie spammers, mods will have more time for the other parts of the forum
710  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin fees on: April 25, 2018, 10:01:15 PM
What are is lightning network and How to integrate lightning network into the bitcoin?
How to decrease bitcoin transaction fees and an increase in the speed of transaction!

Bitcoin fees are too expensive but hopefully that fees are appropriate. They need that fees for the maintenance, storage etc. that contributes to the good services that will provide or providing to us. What if there's no fee, I think the system is very slow or there are anomaly happening within or might get all our Bitcoin. So, think of it, that fee is for our own good.
1. Bitcoin fees are not too expensive (this time, this was true last year December, maybe you have forgot to update your thoughts.)
2. Fees are for maintenance, storage, etc?Huh Bitcoin is not a hardware store or anything like that...
The fees are for the miners good, that's all....
711  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ‘We Welcome Anonymous Cryptocurrencies’ : US Federal Reserve Breaks Down Bitcoin on: April 25, 2018, 09:43:33 PM
...

This is what truly stood out to me though. This just seems to relevant because so many countries seem to want to release their own crypto lately. This, of course, is their own view of the matter, and others may have different opinions, but this tells us those who are interested in releasing their own aren't releasing true cryptos. They're not going to be anonymous, they're not going to be centralized, and they're going to be made not for the people, but for the government itself. One example is Petro, which is Venezuela's answer to sanctions.
There's a common misunderstanding when it's about governments (or the central banks) and the national cryptos. Countries are not going to release a new kind of cryptocurrency for themselves. All they want to do is to change the backend of the current 'digital fiat' in order to cut the costs of the current systems, which requires a lot of manual interventions and checks. If they can upgrade their current system to a blockchain-like system (more or less automated system) they will have some great improvements, compared to the current systems. This means they will be able to track the transactions more easily and they will need less staff who manages the system (less headcount, less cost).
The governments won't create anything decentralized or anonymous, that's not their interest...
712  Other / Meta / Re: Our very own sMerit Network Picture on: April 25, 2018, 09:11:55 PM
I really like this tool Smiley
Is it possible to somehow include it in the profile section of the users?
I would be happy to see this visualization.
(And I know that spammers would hate to watch the empty white box on their profile page Tongue )
713  Other / Meta / Re: My idea about BCT account registration on: April 25, 2018, 08:51:29 PM
...

But how if moderators give different random questions for each new member and the list of registration questions will be changed every month or week. I think it can help although just a little bit.
You just can't imagine but those who earns their living here by spamming and farming, they would solve this problem, with a little bit of coding, most of the systems like this can be easily bypassed.
There's no use changing the questions, because as soon as an answer has been found, the bots will easily answer it from the very next moment, so we need something really different.
I know that IP address can also be a unique identifier, but VPNs are hiding the people's real IP address and also a few people, using the same VPN service provider can share the same IP address, so that's also can be tricky to rely on the IP or not...
714  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: About when this tx will be confirmed? on: April 25, 2018, 08:42:27 PM
I was about to add your transaction to the viabtc accelerator, but it seems that someone has already added it:

If everything works as expected, you'll have your transaction accelerated in a few hours time.

Edit:
Hold on a second, it seems on the blockcypher's browser that this transaction has already been double spent...

Edit nr2:
Hold on for another second, as far as I know, ViaBTC only accepts transactions above 10 sat/B (or this was the limit last year December

I'm curious now what will happen to the transaction and when...
715  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion : Merit Jail on: April 24, 2018, 09:44:52 PM
Remember we used to have newbie jail?
Why not make a Merit jail as well?
If you do not get a certain amount of merit, you will not be allowed to post 'normally' outside of that board or not at all maybe.
We can do this for each rank and not just newbies. Might also need to make the admins of that board become the defacto merit sources. Their job would be to exclusively asard merit to decent posts within that board.

What do you guys think?

A newbie jail would be the best way out of the current problems. Having a separate jail for different ranks seems to be going overboard. A better step might be to make a requirement of a single merit for promotion to junior member.
A newbie jail, and the paid Copper membership is still a solution, if they want to jailbrake Smiley
So if they think they will earn a hell lot of money spamming the forum, they should pay first and they will be free to post (and the mods will stop them if needed...)

716  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestions to improve the forum and limit shitposting - the easy way on: April 24, 2018, 09:07:02 PM
...

That's the thing though. Most of the questions that get asked over and over again are already covered in stickies -- or countless other threads on the same topic. So if something like a newbie jail actually encourages people to use the search function or google first, that's a plus in my book.
This is my opinion also, you can check this post:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3345485.msg35112842#msg35112842
Using google if something is needed is not a big deal, but it doesn't increase the post count, so it's an evil thing Smiley

...
I believe that restricting new accounts to signature-less posting on starter boards, and only allowing them to post on the main boards once they had been awarded 5 merits ( say ) would be the simplest solution.
+1 for this. Taking part in signature/bounty campaigns should not be a right but a merit...
(this is not that Merit Smiley )
717  Other / Meta / Re: Legendary one day? on: April 23, 2018, 09:02:41 PM
Got the merits.. now need the activity! I wasn't fussed about leveling up, now that I have cracked the 1K merits I think it will piss me off every 2 weeks. The way my luck is running I wont get it till over 1K activity!

Haha, yeah it seems sad but I was happy to become Legendary too Grin
I think I reached it at around the mid 800’s in Activity terms. You’ll reach it in no time buddy, you’ve already done the hard bit getting to 1000 Merit points seems as though you must have started at 500 with the new system?

Itll come in time fella.. not that it actually makes much difference to me.
Congrats, it seems you'll be really the first one who made it to become a legendary with the merits you have deserved.
Take it easy and think about the others, who maybe has already reached the activity level but they're still struggling with the merits... seems so similar but it's a totally different problem Smiley
It's better for you that you don't know when you will become a legendary, but it's only depens on your luck because you have done your work now so the question is not about becoming a legendary but when.
I have read about the legendary activity calculation in a thread somewhere, and it seems that a function calculates the activity needed from the hash of a text (which contains your user ID and some 'salt' in the database which is a secret seed) and because of the unique user ID, it differs for each member.
Don't be impatient, you're fine already with your achievement, so be proud of it instead Smiley
718  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the best Virtual Credit Card there is? on: April 23, 2018, 08:27:55 PM
...

There are services like Yandex Money, EntroPay, Money Polo, and Neteller, they are all fiat wallets, but they also offer virtual credit card. The wallets have one account with the virtual credit card, meaning if you deposit money into your wallet, you can use this money to make payments as if you were using a real credit card. The virtual credit cards are usually issued by MasterCard.
...
Thanks for the clarification, yes, I misunderstood your question.
Regarding the virtual credit cards, it's a bit misleading that we call them a credit card, but why not, if it's better to sell them with a name like this, no problem.
Too bad for us that the card that has the less complains is denominated in rubel and not USD, but that's life. The problem is you can't influence the exchange rate of the card issuer, so they can use any kind of exchange rate, which is no good for us, especially because of the double exchane (buying, selling the fiat).
719  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin will do to banks what email did to the postal industry. on: April 22, 2018, 09:00:00 PM
Bitcoin will eventually win the banks over, first the blockchain technology, then bitcoin as a currency to be used a basic exchange medium, like dolla and pounds in fiat..
Nah, that is not possible. No matter how much we don't like what banks do and how they make money out of other people misery, there are advantages in having banks around.
Ask yourself... if there was not for banks, where would people leave their valuables? Or should people hold whole their savings in their houses maybe... Nah, banks are necessary evil in this world.
With bitcoin and blockchain out there, they will not die, they will merely adapt and everything will continue.

Banks will change, because they have to change, if they want to stay on the market... On the short run, it's only money transfer which is affected by the cryptos, using the blockchain, but the other services of the banks are untouced, and will be untouched for the long run also.
This means that banks will have time to think it over, what they want to do in the future and how they want to do it. They will have time to develop themselves again, if it's needed, and they can afford to hire the best IT staff, if it's about their future.
So I think the two things (banks and cryptos) will live next to each other for a long time
720  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: EU - Deposit/Withdraw from/to Fiat, best ways ...? on: April 22, 2018, 08:26:27 PM
This it the problem I was worried about, and now it happened.
I don't know which is your country in the EU, but if one of them has made it, the others will copy the regulations as always...
Unfortunately if your bank don't accept wire transfer from exchanges and don't let you to send some fiat to exchange realted bank accounts, you can do nothing but to search for a crypto friendly bank.
Have you checked Estonia? They are really leaders in connection with cryptos, so maybe you can apply for a e-citizenship and use their banks to wire money to exchanges and back? Just an idea
