701  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Gauging interest in a S5+ / 3xS7 specific power supply breakout board on: December 09, 2015, 07:41:38 PM
Is there anyone powering 3 S7 with this? Which fan do you use / recommend for cooling the PSUs?

I am. My own contraption, but the same end result as j4bber's breakout board. His solution is just much more elegant. I'm using 2 Delta fans, approximately 150CFM each. Could get by with lesser fans, but I had these on hand so why not.

this last pic is SO WRONG ...it is so mesmerizing thou...it just wants to suck me in....(must resist argh....) it is a CHAOS TALISMAN
of some type....LOOK AWAY.....(it burns my eyes....)

A chaos talisman, I love it, lol!  I though the same thing when I saw that pict, it's like a little ball of wires that somehow mines.  GOT WIRES?  Grin

I dig the "thing" to power the 3 S7s, but shouldn't you cover up that copper bus bar to prevent accidental electrocution?  Looks terrifying!  I hope you don't have a cat...

Nah, 12v is too low to get even a shock from, much less getting electrocuted. I think you start feeling electricity somewhere around 50v or so. This is assuming dry skin, of course. Wet skin would be lower. The only danger would be if something made of metal were to short the 2 bus bars out.

For the most part you are correct.  Just do not wear rings when working with this.  Seen several people have cooked fingers from letting rings hit bus bars back in my DC datacenter days.

Ha! Never thought of that. Probably since I don't wear rings, so I'm safe. Smiley

I have the 1600w Titanium. It's seriously an incredible PSU, I measured 96% efficiency at 50% load and 94.5% at 100% load. The fan doesn't even spin until somewhere around 1000w load. I no longer need it if anyone wants to get their hands on it for a great price vs retail.
704  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] IBM 2880W Platinum PSUs on: December 09, 2015, 06:50:43 PM
Have 3 of these available. Each comes with a j4bberwock breakout board.

Shipping from Quebec, Canada. Use postal code J7Y 4Y7 to calculate shipping costs to you. Pickup / meetup is an option in the Montreal region.

$120USD each + shipping. Escrow with OgNasty is fine, at buyer's expense. Perfect for running 2 S7s or 3 Avalon 6s, or any other variety of miners.

I'm out of town for a few days, shipping won't be before 12/17.

SOLD! Thread closed.

Have 4 S4 boards available.
706  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Any way to make IBM Bladecenter H 2880W fans quieter? on: December 09, 2015, 06:21:23 PM
Ear plugs. Or mod the PSU by adding 2 powerful 120mm fans to the top of it.

I stopped using my 3 PSUs, just too damn loud. I had them in a detached garage and they were still too loud, could hear them in the house and down the road 100 feet away easily.
707  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: December 09, 2015, 06:16:57 PM
yes, i have already found and posted in the kano thread.
i like the transparency of the admins and have been hashing there for the last 3 days.
I had to bring my miners down for few hours today for my electrician to install another 90amps.
will be online in kanoi.is in a couple of hours - new blocks pls wait for me :-)

Sounds great!  Hope it goes smoothly for you with the upgrade.

I'm actually waiting for the power company to call me this week to add another 400 amps to my house.  I've found out now they will foot the bill for installing a larger underground feeder cable and larger transformer [Providing I use the power I'm asking for].  If I don't use the power I'm asking for [But I will] they will back charge me for the materials and labor costs invested in the upgrade.  I hope to have the upgrade completed before Christmas time.  Keep your fingers crossed.

Thanks for the answer earlier!!!   And Congrats on the NEW Power.

Sure, however, I don't have it yet.  I've called the power company several times over the past 5 weeks.  They finally have a work order generated and sent it to the engineering department.  Now I'm waiting for someone from engineering to call me to set up an appointment to come out and see what I want to accomplish.

Sorry I missed helping out on Kano/CKPool forum.  It looks like someone else was able to assist you though.

Are they replacing your main service, or adding a second 400A service? I'm only allowed 1 service per building here.

I'm only allowed one meter at my house.  I'm getting electricians to add two more 200 amp Main Service Panels, a quick disconnect for both of the new 200 amp main service panels that can be shut off manually and by the smoke/fire alarm system.  The entire upgrade will cost me close to $5,000 with a new meter, distribution panel, two main service panels, quick disconnects, wire, labor, etc...

I see, sounds like the same setup as it would be here. To be clear, you already have a 200A service, and are adding 400A more for a total of 600A 240V at your house? Awesome if so!
708  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer s4+ issues on: December 09, 2015, 05:58:50 PM
You can definitely run it with only 3 boards. Just unplug the power and data cables.

Not sure if an S4 board would work, but I would think so. I have 4 spare S4 boards if you want to buy one.

You can not save face, damage has been done! You, kano and your bossom buddy ck are slimy.

Do you have any idea how ridiculously stupid you sound? But please, keep digging.

Cringe worthy.

Atta-boy! Welcome to an honest and transparent pool. I know you'll enjoy your stay. Cool

First there is a pool section. => https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=41.0

Second, current luck doesn't represent the future

Third, thanks but no thanks

I understand there is a "pool section."

I'll take it down in a few.

As for luck...  They had only 1.1 PH/s a few days ago.  Now they are over 4.6 PH/s.  They've recently had a couple of decent size farms add some hash in the last couple of days to make it where the variance is more manageable.  Hence, the rise in luck with better variance.

Trust me on that : current luck doesn't represent the future whatever variable/formula you want to put into your reflection

I'm aware of that.  I'm mainly referring to "variance."  The variance is more manageable with a higher hash rate on a pool operated by top notch staff when "luck" is low.

Totally opposite on Slush Pool.  They have a hell of a lot of hash but staff that doesn't know what they are doing.  Look at the orphans they have...

I would be willing to bet if you saw all of the hash rate you see at Slush on CK/Kano Pool, you would not see all of those orphans.

Pointed my 4 S7s and Avalon 6 to Kano right after your post, hopefully, you are right. 21 hrs no block yet, missed 2 payments ~$65 each from antpool already. I will continue to run at Kano a few more days to see if I get comparable payment.

You have to mine at kano for a little over 5 days to start getting full payouts.  Look at your shifts page.  When your shifts get to the red line then you are getting the full payout.  So your first payouts will be less than later ones assuming there are blocks found in the next 5 days (which there definitely should be).

Also, S7's under 4 BTC now on bitmain's website.

So, first 5 days or so payouts will be significantly less than other PPLNS pool. I received a payout of .00333 today from Kano. How about after 5 days, will payouts be about the same as other PPLNS pool such as Antpool or better? If it is the same, I don't see any benefit in mining at Kano, other than supporting lesser hash rate pools. Since I have to pay hosting fees no matter what, I am just trying to maximize gain for 3-4 months.

What's important to understand is that your 5 days of building up shares isn't lost. When you stop mining there, you'll continue receiving full payments on each block for the next 5 days, even though your miners aren't mining at kano.is anymore.

Give it time, you'll love it. You'll make more than at antpool.

Never has a thread title been more accurate.  Tongue
714  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: December 09, 2015, 03:22:26 AM
So I started to notice a big difference of temperature between my two S7 batch 6 units. One is running at 58 C and the other 66 C. 8 degrees lower than the other, with the same PSU, in the same room in the same conditions!? So I looked at the front fans and also notice they are different!

The fan on the right miner runs faster and obviously cools down better the miner overall. I've set both to 24% fan speed.

Right miner: @ avg 58 C
Speed (r/min)    2,400    0    2,400

Left miner: @ avg 66 C
Speed (r/min)    2,520    0    1,920

I've seen the post from Prelude and looks like his fans are the slower one. Anyone else got a miner with the better fans? I thinking about changing the slower fan for the same model as the fast one in the other unit.

Hmm, that's really weird. Looks like the old fan they used on the S1 and S3. Are you sure the one on the right isn't the 1920RPM one? The 3 running 24-2500RPM are like the one pictured on the left, no? The fan on the left is the standard bitmain fan since S4.
715  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: December 08, 2015, 10:00:12 PM
buddy of mine told me next batch is already available for order but released in mainland china for now & delivery is somewhere in jan 2016.

the more you oc, the more hw error, rejects, dupes & others NOT accepted share by the pool even if you see a low HW error. do keep an eye out there especially oc'ing fans.

PLEASE DO NOT OC if you do not have a PSU with an output of minimum +12V with loads. i'd say +12.5V & up below 13V then prolly a tad with good results on both miner & pool side. let it run 12 hrs or more & find a suitable setting.

obviously keep an eye on the temps too. so far i think most find that the chip works more "efficiently" around the 60 deg C range.

GL to all & hope to see more results.

the more you push it, the shorter the lifespan.

always your own risk in oc'ing.

These miners will be obsolete in about a year  or two (MAXXXX)  who really cares about the longevity. Milk the most you can out of the hardware

And if milking them kills them after 4 months? Remember, these things are built as cheaply as possible.

...
And to think, I almost made a pit stop on ck's pool before switching over from slush. Was thinking about going at it for 24 hours or so. It's all good though, I'm happy to have found a block for the pool, and I wouldn't necessarily have found one on ck's pool. (right?)
Yep, a block found in the time frame of one work item has, currently, a 1 in 79billion/X chance of producing a block during that time frame with any other work item any where else.

Of course you could have found many more on solo or none.
Yep it's random with a bit of poisson distributed luck thrown in Smiley

tl;dr;
X ~= hashrate * Y / 2^32;
Here Y <= 30

Gracias.  Smiley
718  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Looking for a good Pdu on: December 08, 2015, 06:47:15 PM
Here's what one of my switched PDUs looks like:

719  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Looking for a good Pdu on: December 08, 2015, 06:35:51 PM
PDUs aren't areally good or bad. They're electrical devices that all conform to the same electrical standards. The main differences are: Dumb PDU (basically a glorified power strip), metered PDU with ammeter (displays current use) networked PDU (has web interface to view info) and switched PDU (web interface + port control ie remote rebooting etc).

Get what suits you best in terms of available plugs and features.

Figured I'd post this here for people who don't follow the S7 thread.

Decided to "make a thing" to power my S7s Grin. Hope some of you will appreciate this!

2X 2000w server PSUs sharing the load of the 3 S7s. Will shortly be replacing the PSUs with the 2500w versions since I'm actually pulling 4400w DC from them right now, which is 200w over their rating on each.

I've adjusted the voltage output to 12.6v on the PSUs.
