Total noob here.  Ive been studying cryptocurrency and blockchain technology for a couple weeks and I have a couple questions. I wont be starting out with a lot of money tied up in this.  I am only going to start with around $500.  Any suggestions as to dos and donts or any general advice would be nice.

Thanks,

The Noob

Sure.

- Don't invest more than you're willing to lose. It will make it much easier to go through days when the price drops 30%+...
- Read a lot! https://lopp.net/bitcoin.html is a good start. It's centered on Bitcoin, but most articles apply to all crypto in general.
- Don't keep all 'your' coins on an exchange. They're YOUR coins when they are in your wallet and only you control the private keys. On the flip side. This also means you can lose them if you lose your wallet. And there's exactly nothing you can do to recover them.
- Always triple check the address you are sending to is the right one. When doing your first transaction of any type, try it out with a small amount first.
- Do some research on any crypto you want to invest into. Guilty until proven innocent is the best approach. Avoid anything that doesn't have full public access to the blockchain and a GitHub page with all the code. If it's centered around a company/page and has incentives/affiliate/lending programs it's 100% a ponzi (BitConnect & Co...).
- Trust nobody. Not even me  Grin

Dev why am I not receiving any profit from my lending since January 8, 2018. I wrote several times to the support but there is no reply.

It's a dead project. The only way to learn about ponzi schemes is to loose money in one. I hope you learned your lesson. Move on...
725  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched! on: January 17, 2018, 11:39:23 AM
Where can I check how much are the funds that has been raised?

Nowhere. The answer is zero. This is a true decentralized cryptocurrency. It is mined.
726  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched! on: January 17, 2018, 11:37:27 AM
If you do not sell now, you will lose everything. I have already gone to fiat.

Just bought yours.
lol, now to sell is ridicules,...HODL or buy back

What is the all time high of ltc/btc? In what year it has been reached?

Thanks

You really should learn to use Coinmarketcap Wink

It was in November 2013. It hit a high of 0.05 BTC/LTC with the price of around $50/LTC.

I have to say I don't understand why we are really not pushing for better exchanges. Tradesatoshi is just horrible, and thats assuming you can get into it.... most of the time I have tried it's down..... People keep saying it's about PR, and yet, what are we saying by not trying to get it on better exchanges. IMO we are just saying it's another meh coin to go along with the 1000's others....

See this come up a lot, everywhere we have a presence, this question is asked on Reddit, Discord, Slack, Twitter, Facebook, Here, Everywhere....

We push for exchanges everyday.  Exchanges do not happen overnight - and especially for the BIG name exchanges everyone wants.  Sorry, it just doesn't work that way.  If you were working behind the scenes everyday sending emails and filling out forms you would understand.  Another issue for some is funding.  We've had generous donations and the community has raised a decent operating budget - but it's still not enough to just hand over thousands of dollars to Cryptopia and HitBTC.

Pushing for exchanges has been an EVERYDAY thing since this community launched.  I can guarantee you we're not just sitting on our asses with our fingers crossed hoping someone magically adds us.....that's not the case at all.

Personally, I hope everyone understands this.  Also, we encourage steady growth - this is not a get rich quick scheme - or a scheme at all.  It's a community with a lot of talent that's growing everyday.

This!

Steady growth is the way to go. I'm getting old for all this roller coasters  Cheesy

PLZ DONT INVEST IN THI COIN.....IT BEEN 3 WEEKS AND THEY HAVENT RELEASED MY BITCOIN.......
THEY ARE DISGRACE TO CRYPTO COMMUNITY .........
YOU GUYS ARE WARNED.....

I've written many warnings on the first two pages, all ignored. This scam was clearly visible from space on day 1. Sorry about your loss mate. There's a sea of oppurtunity in crypto. Avoid everything that promises a profit and you'll be good Wink

They've said they want to be the next BitConnect. One of the biggest ponzi scams in crypto. Every single respectable person in this space has said as much (Andreas Antonopoulos, Charlie Lee, ...)

I have been waiting to use your exchange for a few weeks now, any ETA on your upgrade yet?

This is just a guestimate, but it's way better than anything the geniuses behind 'the best bitcoin exchange' have been able to say:

Kraken will successfully upgrade it's systems on the day Hell freezes over, pigs fly and we witness the return of Elvis.  Wink

Yes!
734  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched! on: January 09, 2018, 01:25:19 PM
About $3.81 billion worth of payments has been made using Litecoin in the past 24 hours. That’s about 26.81% of its market cap.
Litecoin is vying to become a “medium of exchange” for the digital world. Its end goal is to complement, if not fully substitute the slower and more expensive cryptocurrency, Bitcoin. To achieve that, however, LTC prices must stabilize to become more predictable.

Where did you get that news? I find the figure doubtful but of course i'll be very happy if it is indeed true. Care to share the link?

See the 'Sent last 24h'. It's all public knowledge.

735  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin is officially dead on: January 08, 2018, 02:08:53 PM
Anybody know what was the price of Litecoin when it was first launched a few years back? I am curious as to what happened to the earliest investors of this coin whether they got rich or just keep on holding for years now. Would you hold a coin for years?

The price was zero. There were no investors, just miners.

Buying LTC is extremely risky. I expect us to have a multi-year bear market like the one we just had where LTC dropped 90% in value $50 ----> $5

Pozdravljeni,
kakšen predlog, kam se najbolj splača na hitro investirati okoli 500-800€? Smiley Long term ali ne, ni važno

Long term: Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum
Short term: Nihče ne ve. Kdor ve, laže.

If they are doing nothing then how are they ruining Bitcoin code?

with SegWit code -> potential of Lightning Code
Bitcoin is unequipped to deal with the amount of transaction now with $50 transaction fee and hundreds of thousands of unconfirmed transactions so how is a layer 2 solution ruining Bitcoin code? LN still relies on the blockchain.

Do you own investigation, read more what LN is.

In simple words it's centralized hub, where you can send your bitcoins (remember: to made this you need to make on-chain transaction(s) with high fees!) and you can lose you bitcoins at all Smiley

With simple explanation you already have Lightning Network. It is any exchange ( specialty exchanges with "codes" or possibility to withdraw funds to other user account at the exchange.
Exchange = lightning hub.

You send to Exchange(lighting hub) your bitcoins and then you can send it to other users, spend and pay for other services that this exchange support with low fees. Also you can do "atomic swaps" on exchange(lightning hub) to other crypto coin. So, think that exchange=Lighting hub, then answer me how LN will solve your problems if it will be announced? Smiley

"Exchange = lightning hub" is a flawed perspective. You do not irreversibly send Bitcoin to a LN hub. Without going into too much detail, you basically lock up an amount of BTC by opening a payment channel. But they are still your Bitcoins. Yes this is an on-chain transaction, and you have to pay a fee. Then you can make offchain transactions via LN. Within the LN you create valid transactions but you don't publish them to the BTC blockchain. Once you publish the last valid transaction to the blockchain, the payment channel is closed. And this again carries a fee.
