I'll try to get the part number for you later today..

The other problem with the S7 updates is that there is no text accompanying them describing the changes from the release firmware. It may even be that they are the release firmware and that you are running the risk of an upgrade for no gain at all?

Rich

Certainly seems to be the case with the S7 firmware update.
723  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: December 08, 2015, 03:39:46 PM
Decided to "make a thing" to power my S7s Grin. Hope some of you will appreciate this!

2X 2000w server PSUs sharing the load of the 3 S7s. Will shortly be replacing the PSUs with the 2500w versions since I'm actually pulling 4400w DC from them right now, which is 200w over their rating on each.

I've adjusted the voltage output to 12.6v on the PSUs.

Great rig man. Kudos! 12.5V+ opens up some good OC headroom on the S7.

Thanks, it certainly does! Just wondering if I should tempt fate by lettings them run that high.

Regarding firmware, I'm with phil on this one. The only update that has been worth it for me was an S4 update which actually made the miner work. When it shipped it was unusable. On the other hand, bitmain has a history of removing features with firmware updates. Removed voltage control on S4, and removed overclocking on S4+. The S4 can be flashed to older firmware to get it back, the S4+ can not. Complete bullshit on bitmain's behalf, they can't be trusted.

Here we go! Feels like my miners are back where they belong.  Cool
Very glad you did Smiley
You found our current block Smiley

 Cool Grin

Awesome!!

3rd block I've hit! (that I'm aware of at least)

And to think, I almost made a pit stop on ck's pool before switching over from slush. Was thinking about going at it for 24 hours or so. It's all good though, I'm happy to have found a block for the pool, and I wouldn't necessarily have found one on ck's pool. (right?)

Is your breakout board able to handle 5000w if DPS-2500BB are used instead of DPS-2000BB?

Sweet any plans to sell your creation? hows the over volting working for you do you notice any substantial hashing gains?

if he is not, I've this breakout board that does exactly the same thing:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1178099.0

-load sharing
-voltage adjust (11.3v to 13.0v / 11.7v to 13.7v)
-optional sideplates for easier mounting of the fans.

Finksy will sell them soon for the North America market, in the mean time, I'm taking care of the orders.

Heh, I was actually about to post a link to your thread. That's definitely the way to go! I already had all of this equipment on hand, so I decided to make the best of it.

Don't think so, it was incredibly labour intensive. Don't think it would be worth my time.

Over volting allowed me to set much higher frequencies:

I don't recommend overclocking this much, though. Can probably end up killing them.

PS mindtrip, could you please remove the [ img ] [/ img ] tags from your post so my pictures aren't repeated? They take up a lot of room in my post as it is, no need to have them copied below. Smiley

Ok, time for another question to all ya guys!!!!
If there was a way to keep track of last used volts / clocks for any given cube which was previously plugged in or swapped around on the pi ... would it be useful for yall?

I believe i can code something up that would do this, using the serial number of each cube to keep track of their previously used clocks & volts on a specific pi.

IE: If I coded this up, this is what would happen: lets say you have a miner with 2 cubes and you moved those 2 cubes to different ports or even swapped them around(on the same pi), the next time you boot the miner up ... the voltages & clocks would have moved automatically w/ the cubes to their new slots.

While I could see that being useful, I don't really see myself in particular needing it. I never unplug the cubes or move them around.

How were you pulling power from them? You must've made a mistake or omitted something somewhere. Here's what my setup looks like, yours should be very similar:

You made a bus bar for 12V and ground, right? Something like the 2 copper strips in my picture? Those are what you need to pull the power from, your PCI-e wires should be connected directly to one or both of the PSUs.
733  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 07, 2015, 06:10:29 AM
It is very stable with 12.6 volts for me using the 750's.  The ones I have on those PSU's have been running since they arrived at 3.8-4.0 Th.  I have tried using higher quality wires vs. lower gauge wires and it seems to have little difference in the hash rate but made a small difference in the voltage.  I suspect Finsky is correct about them except it didn't raise enough to actually kick up the hash rate.

Do you mean the Dell 750w server psu? If so, can you share how to adjust their voltage?

How's overclocking on these guys? Same string design principal as S5/S7 right? Upping the voltage on S7s really gives them wings. Wondering if these will have similar results. What frequency controls are offered?
it will auto over clock to 4000gh with volts at 12.6. Freq 500

This gear auto clocks based on

volts
temps
 fan speed
 freq control

Good to know, thanks. Is there a way to control the overclocking frequency manually? That would be ideal.

Just need to edit cgminer.conf

Anyone know how to restore overclocking to the S4+?
739  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S7 Dell 750w Server Psu Question on: December 06, 2015, 09:41:49 PM
Perfectly fine. I'm using a similar setup. 2x DPS2000 PSUs load sharing to power 3x S7s.
740  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer s4+ issues on: December 06, 2015, 09:19:42 PM
Good to hear that you won't get stuck with a bum unit. Is your unit still running the original firmware? I made the mistake of updating mine, and bitmain sneakily removed frequency options above 200mhz. Make sure you don't update if you plan on overclocking. Wish I could revert my units back to the original firmware!
