must be a pretty good pucker moment launching weather sats right now no?  positive launch and sep..completed burn into a parking orbit. wtg NASA
GOES-T

Atlas V and the RD-180 with SRB's at full roar

Yeah.. I am sure that was one of the most closely watched launches from several places in the world at once...  whew

As to mutually assured destruction.,

1.  It would take madness for Putin to do a nuke strike, and the agreementr enough of his people to pull it off.  I comfort myself with that.
2.  This whole thing is a show, and a way to wreck the dollar (as well as the ruble, pound and so on.) and bring in digital IDs/Wallets and CDBCs.

THAT is what I think this is about.  We are seeing history made before our eyes gentlemen, and it is hard right now to know how the story will be told.  Because that totally depends on the outcome.
742  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 01, 2022, 08:21:42 PM
So the whole world is now undergoing it's SECOND lesson on why Bitcoin matters.

Remember when the lightbulb went on for you for Monero?  Most of us, we were Bitcoinners first.  Obviously if we go back it was the only choice.  Then things like tennebrix and solidcoin appeared.  (LOL)  Most of us were lucky enough to be able to avoid these scams...  But then around 2014 I started hearing about Monero.

The lightbulb for me was this:

Monero did something that Bitcoin did not.  Something fundamental and astoundingly useful. But it was a different set of tradeoffs.  And I came to the conclusion that this was a use-case that had an excuse to be.  AND did something that took away some of Bitcoin's properties.  I never saw it as Bitcoin=Bad Monero=Good.  I saw them as complimentary.

Anyway, I am surprised to this day so few of us take that position, but that is neither here nor there.

My thougt is this:  A certain percentage those awakening to Bitcoin and why it is important are going to stumble across Monero and why it is different just like we did.  I mean they already know about NFTs, and many are seeing why that is just the wrong thing to be focusing on right now.  But a certain number of these hundreds of millions who are now seeing Bitcoin for what it is are going to realize why Monero matters.

And then they will buy some.

The questions for speculation:

How many?
When?

One thing I do not question in the least is that it is going to happen...  if you are reading this, I'd say you are in a good spot!

Attention Radio Geeks:

8131 kHz USB (Russian Air Force)
Military Transport (Aviation)
6.685 kHz USB (primary)
8.847 kHz USB (secondary)
11.360 kHz USB
18.030 kHz USB

There's several lists online, this one was sent to me a few minutes ago from a friend living in Poland.  Most here won't have radio gear, but you can probably poke around on websdr.org and find a station in Europe that could get good propagation.

I've been a ham since 1980, General class.

Seventy threes...  I wish I could give you my station ID.

grew up with MARS. gotta ton of QSL cards. played chess with peeps all over the world. was fun.

73s too

I have always wondered.. why didn't the MARS folks just use the same region numbers as the Amateur territories?

I am not a seasoned, or very knowledgeable radio user.. but I enjoy, mostly listening, actually.

I think it REALLY starts to get interesting when we break 42k.

Here is a little picture to be less annoying while people talk about war etc.

But already the question I was going to ask has been answered.

I have a funny feeling about this one... (the GOOD kind of funny feeling)

Does anyone have a valid, non-scam BTC address to donate to Ukraine>

I found this, but don't know: https://cryptotips.eu/en/blog/how-to-donate-crypto-to-ukraine/

As far as I can tell the 357a3So9CbsNfBBgFYACGvxxS6tMaDoa1P address is legit.

But obviously DYOR.  I can't tell what is real anymore really...

That said... what are you donating to?  I am not answering that question, only asking it.  Who is in on this global psyop?  Could the money going to that official (?) Ukraine address be funding the people putting the show on for us, instead of the victims of aggression?

It's really hard to know for me...

OK.  I am mildy drunk, and I think that my WO brethren will not be mad about talking about something tangentially on topic under the (very understandable) circumstances while geopolitical pressures are taking center stage, but if not?  Well get infofront to delete it... whatever.

  Bob.

OK.  So the channels I have with you tend to flow to the liquidity being on your side.  Both DEEJ and JEED  are that way right now.

So for now what I am going to do is set the fees on our channel UP a little.  And also all other Wumbo outgoing channels I will drop their fees.  If my poor stupid brain is tracking this will attract traffic to flow INTO our channel, but then OUT OF my others (which is where the fees get charged).

I really want to make our channels go back and forth  constantly... 16mm IN, 16mm out rinse, lather, repeat 300 times.   So once I get the liquidy back onto my side I will switch again, and flow it all our again...  Hopefully the script you found ends up automating this... but I thought I'd try it with our channels first to see how it goers.

CURRENTLY I could care less about fees.  I just do not want to LOSE money doing this.  And I want to have the highest traffic possible.   Once I achieve this some more... then I can optimise to make at LEAST enough to cover layer 1 fees.

Moje sudno na povitrianij podušci povne vuhriv!!!

cAPSLOCK is offering some very active inbound liquidity (dude, check your nodes, both are down), as are some other folk who have connected to me, and even transacting at my default 1000/250 rates upon connecting - Not going to complain AT ALL.

I have been running on a 16GB SD card since the beginning a couple years ago.  That is becomming not quite enough anymore.  So I moved the node over to a 128GB card.

Once the migration was done the bitcoind daemon is not reliably starting.  *sigh*

I have rebuilt the thing a couple times, and each time it's the same... so for NOW I just am bring it up manually after a reboot.  And voila, it's working like a charm.

So you should see my node again now.  Hopefully.  Though I still have some work to do to understand why the damn thing is not coming up after a reboot... seems almost like tyhere is a window of time where the daemon's pid file (stored on the HDD) cannot be written at first...  Anyway.  I will deal with this later.  Now it's time for a nap. Do we think China is starting to have any second thoughts about the carpe diem they might have been tempted by?

I gotta admit.  I have always been afraid that Hyperbitcoinization would be accompanied by geopolitical upheaval and possibly war.

Chicken?  Egg?

It's not turning out really how I had expected, really.

You guys can call me a nutbag.

But I think this whole thing is part of the same plan that has been executed since 2 years ago (several decades, really)

Covid was an attempt to get the "vaccine passport" in our phones as a way to grease the rails for digital IDs, and eventually the CDBC wallet.

This "war" being put on for us all?  This is the way to crash the old financial system and usher in the new one.

The first part of the plan did not go nearly as well as they had hoped.  And now we see what is happening with the second part.

The ruble is going to implode on Monday, and there will be a huge run on the Russian banks.
754  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 27, 2022, 12:07:27 AM
Seeing scattered early reports that they are going forward with locking Russian banks out of Swift.

Steady as she goes.
755  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 26, 2022, 08:34:41 PM
Surprised to see the strength & resilience at the moment to be honest. Price is effectively unmoved despite us being on the verge of WW3. Maybe young bitcoin is maturing, maybe a large % of the weak hands have already mindrusted.

Will be interesting to see where we go next but the bottom could be in?

Well... this has been my thought recently.  But.  I have had a string of wrong theories so far recently, AND this is a time where all kinds of kooky things could happen.

For example... I was expecting the "bad guys" (Russia) to announce they would use Bitcoin to avoid sanctions, and that this would cause a negative sort of reaction in the bit central bank governments, and possibly things would be done that might cause shocks to the price.

BUT instead what has seemed to happen is the "good guys" (Ukraine) have invited funding from the world via Bitcoin.  This is a fairly interesting wrinkle.  As this puts the "righteous" use case in FRONT.  Good press for Bitcoin.  So now if the nation states that are likely to knee jerk to Russia using it would also be damaging Ukraine's situation.

But that really is Bitcoin doing Bitcoin things isn't it?

I have been telling my meatspace friends that Bitcoin is poised to go one way or the other fairly dramatically, but that I am not ready to bet on which way (though my long range bet never changes).
756  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: February 26, 2022, 05:19:18 PM
Feather is by far the most underrated Monero project of all.

-Solid familiar interface (Electrum clone)
-Compatible with hardware wallets
-Extremely lightweight
-Portable single executable on Windows and Mac
-Appimage for Linux/Tails
-Super useful (but semi-proprietary) seed system that includes seed genesis date - 14 words. (Has an underlying 24 word seed though)
-Integrated TOR
-Integrated Price in Fiat
-Integrated Local Monero (Exchange)
-Integrated News, and dev fund etc.
-Integrated mining.

It's really the best desktop Monero wallet... Period.

Saylor on bitcoin(crypto world)today with MacKenzie Sagalos.

Quote
Go short the currency, go long the property..and that's a time tested strategy by pretty much every successful investor.

CNBC
https://youtu.be/2vaf4bCgfYY?t=278

The whole clip is pretty good. Saylor distills it down so eloquently...though I would like to see him on a longer format more often..maybe Joe can get him on.

One interesting bit is he has created a VERY compelling narrative supporting the idea that Bitcoin is not currency.

And yet he understands bitcoin much better than most people.  So he has most CERTAINLY come to the obvious understanding that Bitcoin will indeed be the currency of the world inevitably over time.  It may even do so with various smart contracts that look like a loan against liquidity as he describes.

He knows this.  I would bet 0.1BTC on it.

So his great narrative is this...

758  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 25, 2022, 09:41:13 PM
I know some will not align with his politics, and others will (somewhat rightly) criticize his use of the word "crypto" a little too frequently.  But this guy really does GET Bitcoin compared to his peers.  He even got the fact that it will help the power grid in Texas, and his understanding of that is fairly deep.

Anyway, I get a kick out of his delight at the nunchuck letter.

Some may say he is a politician and none of them can be trusted... also possibly valid.

Ukraine soldiers leaving for war and most of them will never return.

You figured it out. He has eyebrows like the other guy and because he is wearing a glove that must be him.

You are forgetting something, the Azov Battalion are proud Nazis, and happily show that, mainstream media keeps trying to cover that up, but the ice is getting thin. Azov Battalion is on Facebook.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azov_Battalion

Whenever you see this insignia/logo from mainstream media coverage of Ukrainian soldiers, you know who it is.

EDIT:

Do you remember this story?

The 78-year-old Ukrainian grandmother preparing for a Russian invasion

https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-europe-60374655

In the very beginning of the clip, look for the insignia on the arm of the instructor.

Oh great.  We seem to have our own in house Russian propagandist.

I hate Nazis, it will never change, your move.

OK.  I am going to say one thing, and then no more.

The Nazi narrative is being used all over the world right now to justify aggression, censorship, and totalitarian moves.  Putin brought it up as part of his justification for attacking Ukraine.

It's bullshit.  Just like the "Nice People" bullshit used by the current US president, and the absolute steaming bullshit coming out of Canada last week.

There is currently absolutely NO DANGER in the world right now from Nazis.  Anywhere.

But there is a serious current dangerous threat coming from people using the word Nazi to justify war, and totalitarianism.
