781  Economy / Economics / Re: George Soros and Bezos have paid almost zero taxes on: June 24, 2021, 01:58:50 PM
2. Now let me keep this in a manner you will not like. Microsoft and many other companies developed infrastructure worth Billions in the US Alone! If the US today is called the biggest superpower it's solely because of these companies! Now, these companies could easily argue that we have delivered a profit of much more than 20$ Billion to the US Treasury itself. Also, we have provided thousands of jobs to the citizens of the US making their livelihoods better. This is the leverage that these companies carry and they use it to make sure they get these advantages in their favor.

Your arguments are not right. Here the tax avoidance is being done by Bill Gates and not by MSFT. Someone who hold $1,000 worth of MSFT shares need to pay 20% capital gains tax on his profit. But Bill Gates, who own $100 billion worth of MSFT shares will never pay any amount if these shares are sold, because the sale will be done by BMGF, which is a charitable trust. If the authorities are extending this tax benefit to all of the shareholders, then no one will complain. Here Bill Gates is getting a preferential treatment when compared to the other share holders.
782  Other / Off-topic / Re: John McAfee Found Dead in Spanish Cell After Extradition Announcement on: June 24, 2021, 12:01:35 PM
Can't forget what he did to the market in 2017.But he is undeniably an inspiration to many of today's crypto celebrities.

Inspiration to whom? Scammers? For me, John McAfee is at the same level as Ruja Ignatova (of the OneCoin scam) or the PlusToken scammers. Each and every action he undertook in 2017 had only one aim - to accumulate as much money as possible, by any means. He caused around $200 million in losses to cryptocurrency users. Apart from the scams in cryptocurrency sector, he is also accused in dozens of other crimes. While he was residing in Belize, he murdered one of his neighbors (Gregory Faull). Since Belize is such a corrupt country, he was never charged for his crimes. Live by crime.. die by crime.
783  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: June 24, 2021, 11:48:26 AM
There will be 3 T20 matches between England and Sri Lanka. England won the first match easily. And I think England will win easily in the remaining two matches. Because, the Sri Lankan team is not very experienced. And, there are not enough talented players in the Sri Lankan team now to resist England’s extraordinary players. So, in the remaining two matches in the T20 format, I will bet on England winning.

The gap between smaller teams such as Sri Lanka and the big 3 teams have increased and there is no chance that Sri Lanka would be able to put up a credible performance against England (even if they are missing some of the big names such as Ben Stokes). However, if Sri Lanka could win at least one match, that will help them with the ICC Men's T20I Team Rankings, and eventually they may not need to play in the qualifying tournament for the next T20 World Cup. At this point, they are ranked #8, which is enough to avoid the qualifiers.

Although I am an Indian citizen, I was supporting New Zealand throughout this test match. Virat Kohli makes it hard for people like me to support the current Indian team. His celebration after the dismissal of Kane Williamson in the first innings is the perfect example. He was roaring and jumping like a monkey, as if his team has won the trophy. And the New Zealand captain is just the exact opposite. I still remember the words he said, after New Zealand was robbed of the 2019 ODI World Cup trophy. There is a reason why cricket is known as "gentleman's game". There is no place for intimidation or bullying in cricket.
785  Economy / Economics / Re: Founders of South African Bitcoin exchange disappear after $3.6 billion 'hack' on: June 24, 2021, 05:15:35 AM
These Cajee brothers were just 20 and 17 year old kids. While they may have struck the proverbial goldmine with the exchange, it could wholly be possible that they themselves are a victim of the 5-dollar wrench attack.

3.6 Billion is a lot of money. I have no idea what precautions these people took for their safety but young people are prone to boastfulness. If this "disappearance" continue to remain a disappearance, it could as well be that they were gobbled up by someone far more powerful.

The excuse for not investigating is also pretty weak. It has already been a few days and will be impossible to track if something untoward has happened to them. Watch for those proceeds ending up in some politician or powerful policeman's Swiss bank stash.

LOL.. seriously? A 17-year old was allowed to run a multi-billion business? Is this even legal in South Africa? Here in India it is not legally possible. You need to be at least 18 years old to own a private business. And I am even more surprised with the carelessness from the users. They were keeping billions of USD worth of coins in an exchange which is run by a 17-year old? BTW why these two are missing? That makes me suspicious. What if this is an inside job? BTW, the promoters look much older in this photo. Difficult to believe that one of them is 17 years old.

786  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: June 24, 2021, 05:00:50 AM
The quarter final lineup looks fiery!

We have Belgium vs Portugal on 27th June. Although Belgium may be the clear favorites, it is going to be no cakewalk for them. Another interesting match is going to be England vs Germany. In this case, it is difficult to predict who has the upper hand. Going by the recent form, I would say that England are the favorites. Germany's performance against Hungary was not up to the mark. Also, they lost the match against France.
787  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tether bug in CMC. on: June 23, 2021, 06:06:13 PM
Every now and then Coinmarketcap throws up such errors. They were very reliable before the acquisition by Binance, when they had limited themselves to around 1200 coins. Now due to an urge to overtake Coingecko, they are listing close to 10,000 different coins and tokens. And many of these coins have similar sounding names, and this give rise to bugs once in a while. In a way, I am happy that they are listing almost all the coins. The vast majority are either dead or dormant. But at least we can get some information about them.
788  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: June 23, 2021, 05:42:40 PM
New Zealand are the champions!

The first ever trophy for them in an ICC global tournament. Test cricket is regarded as the toughest format and New Zealand should be proud of the fact that they managed to overcome the challenge from the Big 3 teams. And the three South African imports played a large role in this victory (BJ Watling, Devon Conway and Neil Wagner), so they should thank the South African quota system as well.

Isn't it unfair with the losing team, in this case the Indian team. If there were no reserve day, then this match would have been drawn.

What if there were two days lost in rain, should they extend the match to 7 days ?

I disagree. Almost three days of play was washed out (including entire days play on 1st and 4th days) and despite that New Zealand managed to win the test match, and thereby the first ever World Test Championship.
789  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: June 23, 2021, 05:32:22 PM
UAE was the home ground of Pakistan for a decade and only recently PCB started conducting matches in Pakistan but due to the mishap they were forced to move the PSL to UAE and i assume it is not a big deal as audience were not allowed and it is not a big loss for them in terms of gate revenue.

I know that UAE was the home ground for Pakistan. But back in the 1990s, Sharjah Cup was regarded as one of the premier cricket tournaments in the world. But the growth of cricket in the UAE came to an abrupt halt, when the BCCI decided not to play there anymore, after the match fixing scandal (a few other locations were also banned, such as Singapore and Toronto). It was a big blow for the ECB, because individuals such as Abdul Rehman Bukhatir played a huge role in making cricket popular across the globe.
790  Economy / Economics / Re: Real Inflation only happens when Central Banks print High Denominated Notes? on: June 23, 2021, 05:16:30 PM
High denominated notes are printed after inflation takes affect. I don’t think govt print high denominated notes and after that inflation happens. When people have more money (less value of course), they need high denominated notes for easier carrying. Zimbabwe didn’t have that trillion dollar note before inflation, it was printed after the inflation happens in unusual way.

That's true. It is foolish to blame the banknotes for inflation. If that was the case, then Switzerland should be having one of the highest inflation rates in the world. Ever heard of the CHF 1000 banknotes (equivalent to $1090)? But Switzerland has a near-zero inflation. Their currency is one of the strongest in the world and the exporters there recently had to request the government to devalue the Swiss Franc. Similarly, both Singapore and Brunei have $10,000 banknotes and yet have some of the lowest inflation rates in the world.

It's important to do research with projects you invest.
If you don't do it. You'll also have the same experience as the others that did experienced scams project when they invest.
Look to the potential of the project through several methods like its team and white paper if it makes sense.

By now, most of the users are capable of distinguishing scam projects from genuine ones. Only the noobs get fooled by such projects nowadays. But at the same time, I see a lot of users investing in overpriced projects such as Dogecoin and XRP. Even users with a lot of expertise sometimes get attracted to these coins, driven by an urge to get good returns in a short duration. Those who make their invest during the start of the pump phase will get good returns, but others will lose their hard earned money on such projects.
792  Economy / Economics / Re: Xi Jinping Beats Crypto, Bitcoin Mine Closes on: June 23, 2021, 04:25:21 PM
This is only closed mining, I don't think there will be a big impact, moreover the influence of bitcoin is strong everywhere, even Bitmain has moved mining to other countries so in my opinion closed mining on Qinghai province and a district in Xinjiang has no impact on global investors.

I heard that one big mining firm moved their mining equipment to Kazakhstan. But we don't know much about the expenses involved and the duration it took to transport everything. Ideally I would like to move a considerable portion of mining activity from China to other countries. But I have serious doubts about the financial viability in doing so. Also it needs to be seen, whether countries such as Kazakhstan and Russia are happy to have such energy intensive activity in their jurisdictions. In the end, it may be a necessity however, given the increasingly hostile stance of the Chinese government.
793  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: June 23, 2021, 04:17:41 PM
OK.. so PSL is coming to a conclusion and the final match will be played tomorrow. Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi will play in the final match and it is difficult to predict who has better chances. Anyway, congratulations to the PCB, for organizing the second phase of the PSL in such an organized manner. They faced a lot of criticism for the bubble breach in the first phase. But they made sure that the mistakes were not repeated. And congratulations to the Emirates Cricket Board as well. After a gap of two decades, the UAE is once again emerging as a major cricket hub.
794  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: June 23, 2021, 04:05:24 PM
I am not following this match because it is not shown anywhere in Pakistan. Too bad Sad

However i just checked the score on Cricinfo and found that we are in the sixth day of the test match  Shocked How can a test match be extended above 5 days ?
What changed here  Huh

The ICC wanted to make sure that they get a result from this test match (since it is the final of WTC). So they added one extra day as reserve, in case there is rain interruption. The reserve day kicks in only of there is a rain interruption. And they were proven right, as the first day was washed out. Now in all probability there will be a winner in this test match, and it looks increasingly likely that New Zealand will be crowned as the the first WTC champions. They need 74 more to win, with 8 wickets and 27 overs remaining.
795  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crpto investment in 2021 on: June 23, 2021, 02:30:09 PM
Bitcoins seems a good buy right now, the price dropped quite a bit since the ATH this year and now we can afford to buy again. Doge Coin seems not so attractive anymore, some investors already moved on. It could take a while for the next hype. My favourite alt coin in 2021 is ETH. They had such a good run so fat this year, and this likely to continue in the second half 2021. From my June and July salary I will probably top of my BTC and ETH coins, splitting 60% in BTC and 40% in ETH.

Dogecoin will be attractive once more, when the market cap drops to somewhere around its fair value (which is around 1/1000th of its current valuation). And regarding Ethereum, the developers have realized that they have bite off more than they could chew. And that is why they are trying to delay the ETH 2.0 implementation. Even before the ETH 2.0 rollout, Ethereum was plagued with various bugs and security issues. ETH 2.0 just made the situation worse, as it was rolled out without proper checks and testing.
796  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will BTC fall below $30,000? The high-yield risk opportunities are in MEME? on: June 23, 2021, 02:18:20 PM
can and it happened yesterday. bitcoin fell below 30k, to be more precise bitcoin touched 29k. but there hasn't been a day, the price has returned to the top. this proves that bitcoin is strong enough to withstand a fall. and meme are not opportunities, it's just momentary hype. so it won't move the market. so it won't help bitcoin.

It just means that the support levels are strong, even if we are in a bearish phase now. Institutions and whales are using the dips to increase the size of their holdings. And during the meantime, the individual investors are picking useless shitcoins at inflated prices. Only time will tell which one of these strategies are right. Some of the shitcoins sailed to market caps in excess of $50 billion, without any involvement from the institutions. Now I don't know when the dump is going to happen.. but once it is triggered it is going to be bloodbath in the alt market.
797  Economy / Economics / Re: FBI aims to keep valuables, $86M cash confiscated in safe deposit store raid on: June 23, 2021, 02:06:56 PM
According to the article, 75 boxes have already been returned, and another 175 will also be returned to their owners - meaning that the feds return everything that is not illegal, as well as those boxes for which it can be determined to whom they belong. ~~~

OK.. that's pretty cool. Why limit this to safe deposit boxes? Let FBI seize all the property owned by the Americans - cash, real estate, stocks, bullion, antiques.etc. Then they can ask the owners to submit evidence to prove that these assets were not illegally obtained. If the Feds are not satisfied with the documents, then they can just seize the assets and distribute it among themselves. Sounds like a really cool idea. BTW, what about the allegation from one of the victims that $75,000 worth of gold coins are missing, after the feds rifled through the boxes?
798  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: June 23, 2021, 01:53:39 PM
52 overs remain and New Zealand need 139 runs to win. India need 10 wickets. Weather prediction rules out rain interruption, and that means that unless there is some magical performance from one of the Indian bowlers, New Zealand will be able to win their first ever global ICC tournament. There was a lot of criticism over the exclusion of Siraj. I checked some of the tweets and they mostly came from politically motivated individuals. IMO, Ishant (who got the selection ahead of Siraj) performed really well. And I have no reason to suspect that an inexperienced guy such as Siraj could have done any better.
799  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: June 23, 2021, 01:38:52 PM
Germany will probably play with full concentration to not let any surprise happen. We saw Hungary defense pretty well in previous matches, in that case Germany need to find an early goal, possibly at first half to avoid outcome of Portugal game. Hungary defended 85 minutes in that match, Germans don't want similar crisis. If they find goal they will play more controlled and put pressure on Hungary. I expect Germany to win this game.

Germany already have 3 points, so even if they draw their match against Hungary, they will be able to progress to the knockout phase. But the toughest match is going to be France vs Portugal. France is having 4 points from two matches, but they still need a win to finish at the top of the group.

Now coming to the other set of matches, there is a real danger that Spain will be kicked out of the tournament. They need a win against Slovakia. If they finish with a draw, then they are out. How ironic, given the fact that they were one of the tournament favorites.

You are right. The emergence of such a talent from Zimbabwe is truly astonishing. Earlier the Zimbabwe team was strong enough. They fought hard against big teams. Now they are very weak. Hopefully there will be more talented players like Muzarabani in the Zimbabwe team and Zimbabwe will regain their old glory.

Emergence of indigenous cricketers such as Blessing Muzarabani is good news for the future of Zimbabwe cricket. They can't depend on the white community for cricket, because the white population has gone down from 300,000 to 25,000 in the last four decades. And the outflow of white cricketers from Zimbabwe is not a recent phenomenon. Graeme Hick, one of the best English players of the 80s was born in Zimbabwe and changed his nationality later. Recent examples include Sam Curran, Colin de Grandhomme and Gary Ballance.

When indigenous players such as Trevor Madondo and Pommie Mbangwa represented Zimbabwe for the first time, it was considered as an exception. Because back then, cricket was largely considered as a white sport in Zimbabwe. Henry Olonga was the first black to play for Zimbabwe, but he was born in Zambia to a Kenyan father.

-----------

Islamabad United seems to have started well, and they are 62/2 after 7 overs. Colin Munro is so far responsible for two-third of those runs.
