The 'squared circle' or 'squaring the circle' is a 17th century alchemical glyph or symbol for the creation of the Philosopher's Stone. The Philosopher's Stone was supposed to be able to transmute base metals into gold and perhaps be an elixir of life.

Philosopherstone (PHS) - a fork of DiamondCoin, with several algorithms fixed and improved. It is descendent of Novacoin/PPCoin with Pow/PoS. It combines the great features from Luckycoin (random blocks) and Florincoin (transaction message), is launched! No Premine!

Philosopherstone provides annual interest rate of 50%, for stakes that are not moved during the period. This equivalent to 3.44% monthly interest. PoS blocks will be generated if the stake is held for more than 5-10 days.

Other specifications:

   - Each normal block has 64 Philosopherstone
   - 2 minutes block time
   - Difficulty retargets every block
   - Mining payout will be halved every 3 months (or every 64800 blocks)
   - Expected total mined coins will be 8,891,840 Philosopherstones (Current estimate <3million)
   - 4 confirmations for transactions
   - 50 confirmations for minted blocks
   - Support transaction message
   - Maximum number of Philosopherstones to be generated is 2 billion

   - Random bonus blocks are (on average):
      - 1 superblock of 512 Philosopherstones every day
      - 1 superblock of 128 Philosopherstones every hour (24 such blocks per day)
   - When getting superblocks, different images will displayed, so it is easy to see.

   - The default ports are 16281(Connect) and 16282(RPC).

To encourage accumulating initial stake, for the first 5 days all the payout will be doubled.

This thread is going to turn into a "these are the coins i have the most of" thread. I love these threads.

If you want a truthful answer to your question, look for the coins actually acquiring services and not just shills. Also try to find the fair coins that arnt created just to benefit the early adopters. There are only a few like that. Good luck with your research.

What is Philosopherstone?
Philosopherstone (PHS) – a fork of DiamondCoin, with several algorithms fixed and improved. It is descendent of Novacoin/PPCoin with Pow/PoS. It combines the great features from Luckycoin (random blocks) and Florincoin (transaction message), is launched! No Premine!
There were a couple of new PoW/PoS coins launched recently, most have problems with PoS generation. Either we see zero-coin PoS blocks generated, or the generation is not accurately reflected in desired PoS percentage. In Philosopherstone we fixed these issues, and after 5-10 days the PoS blocks will be generated reflecting the precise interest rate defined by the coin (in this case 50% annual interest or 3.44% monthly interest). Proof of stake coin is more secure and is much more resilient to 51% attack.
Philosopherstone provides annual interest rate of 50%, for stakes that are not moved during the period. This equivalent to 3.44% monthly interest. PoS blocks will be generated if the stake is held for more than 5-10 days.

87  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What Alt-Coins Do You NOT Consider A Pump & Dump? on: December 04, 2013, 04:54:51 PM
I see so many pump and dump worthless altcoins being created in the past few months, it's crazy and could harm BTC's reputation.

The only altcoins I can see that could serve a genuine purpose, or offer something different to Bitcoin would be Litecoin and Peercoin, and potentially primecoin.

What do you all think? Do you notice any altcoins that offer something more beneficial over BTC?

Litecoin and Primecoin have no real purpose.

Datacoin has: http://www.datacoin.info/
Litecoin was the first attempt at speeding up the transaction speed on the massive blockchain of BTC and avoid the ASIC Arms Race in mining but that may change with the advent of Script ASIC boards ... LTC is a first generation coin with lots of adopters and more services coming as well as publicity on TV. ... so, may be a contender.  Primecoin is mixing pure math with money, unnecessarily burdening money to do EXTRA math.. useful as a toy but the block chain will get ridiculous and mining will fade and perhaps only science labs should run it...IMHO

the only way to avoid a pump and dump is to start at xorxors list of ALT COINS.  If a coin is dedicated 80% to foundation(some), completely premined (Ripple), or the dev didn't do an honest launch which can be determined by examining the block chain and seeing if the first significant amount of coin went to ONE wallet before the announcement or very soon after the announcement - which can be done lamely so as to intentionally fail in reaching interested crypto-miners.   Some coins that fall in that category of GOOD launch, good adoption, good dev , good and growing services (either inherent in the coin or by virtue of its network) as well as having a relatively stable trading market, ie listed on cryptsy - tech analysis of the charts there will tell you how the demand for the coin is holding up) will appreciate just like the fiat currencies of well managed national banks rise above other national banks (except in this case there is no central bank but a democratically-created network of supporters).  One way to guage the rabbidness of the various alt coin community is to go into the forum and just ask one good question and one BIG DOUBT statement about the coin and watch the community answer technical questions and react to someone "diss'in" their coin... just a sociological insight...

In other words, do your own research - this is the MOST TRANSPARENT of markets ANYWHERE).  -digeros

Hai

Can someone tell me where is the big pool for PHS?

I use minar when network hashrate below 100k + minar over 20-30k.
But every 1-2 h network hashrate goin up to 250+ k and destroying minars efficiency => ppls leaving and the few remaining like solomining with 0 efficiency
PHS is starting to pass the point where you can solo mine it. try loadbalancing in cgminer between a pool and your solo mining wallet on your local machine and you will be playing the lottto for solo blocks in addition to getting some hash(reduced by hash given to localhost) at a pool also.

POOL NEWS -  phs.minar.cc is the best PHS pool and Sheinsha will be updating the interface which should improve data and speed.
new client for large stake holders to reduce CPU demand - thanks Palm  please post link again.

Stakeholder Value;Sate of the coin

Currently we have 1.423 million Philosopherstones in existence, this is well below original intentions , and has also greatly lowered the risk of inflation. This is caused by the move to mostly PoS blocks, crowding out larger PoW blocks/miners. Of course, PoS blocks are much cheaper/easier to generate, and PoS is doing its job with energy conservation.

With the recent QRK run (with 256million coins,  mining reward halving every 3 weeks) I was wanting some feedback from stake holders on possibilities of lowering long-term inflation, maybe slowly lowering stake reward over time, as 50% yearly might be a hindrance to store of value and current price.  We could half the stake reward every year, 50%..25%..12.5%, ect (never 0 to cover transaction cost).

Idea: Every 4 times the PoW reward drops in half (yearly), we could also cut the PoS reward in half. We could begin at the 4th PoW halving, which would still allow time for early mass distribution of coins, while also increasing store of value and reducing long-term inflation. We could also leave it as is and see what happens.

Other quick ideas to lower inflation...We could also double fees and destroy half+, or make a use for the PHS messaging feature (add text/urls/torrents/small data). (digeros )

Let me know concerns/thoughts on the matter here or in PM. or If you have other suggestions to promote PHS or improve on the protocol

I think it's also time to begin looking for some more developers to get involved with PHS , and at the minimum to work on a new web presence and promotions.

well my .02 phs's

Is that a PHilosopher's Two Cents?  haha

Seriously, I think that we should leave the coin the way it is and figure out a way to increase transactions on the network  - yes i like the idea of using the messaging service on transactions ESPECIALLY if we can get the messages encrypted with something like PGP and store the messages in a separate but parallel blockchain ( thus not necessary for users only interested in currency feature and reducing the blockchain problem of storing extra data in the blockchain -->  BlockChain Bloat.  IMHO
-digeros

50% inflation is fine for the first year or 3 - long term think about how inflationary that could be.... Also look at the coins at the end of their mining... new cyrpto blood likes coins with low/no production rates. Blockchain bloat is very easily solved with a fee and also don't forget PoS generation on all nodes makes the users benefit($)from hosting data in the chain.

In 3 YEARS!!! that won't be "new crypto blood" that will "late to the plate" morons --- PHS can build blocks and confirm transactions WITHOUT POW MINERS if I am not mistaken - is this right???  - digeros

Guys

Today few of qrk.coinmine.pl miners found an exploit to cash out more coins that they actually mined and hot wallet was completely dry out. This exploit was possible because of site upgrade I was doing and its not related to pool software.

I know this was kind of my fault but I am kindly asking honest users to give back Quarks to this address: QY9f1fRFMv3xJha9XH637k2Yey1WSkvGBA

Will appreciate your cooperation.

feeleep

I should have received a 100 QRK auto-payout today which does appear in the website in transaction list, it is marked as "Confirmed", but my wallet is still empty, and the 100 qrk are gone from my pool account. What should I do?
did you ever get your quarks???  what pool??? -digeros

Added a high performance client for windows.

For some windows users who have accumulated many stake transactions you may notice the cpu running high/100%. This could cause problems with the client in a situation with large amounts of dust/older wallets. This should speed things up and bring down processor usage. Will only work on non-legacy machines, I may release a more optimized one for newer machines if the need arises.

"PHS_Qt_HP125a.zip"

https://sourceforge.net/projects/philosopherstone/files/PHS/

I have dust on dust trans in my PHS wallet & it seems to be running at only 15% of CPU...

i  will give it a try...

Is anyone interested in possible crowd-funding a website for PhilosopherStone... don't we kind of need a website???

-digeros

PS now I will check what other wallets do to CPU Demand... thanks for the tech idea...
