801  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price, Where Next on: June 19, 2023, 08:50:25 PM
So what next are we going to witness a low price movement or more recovery that will place us on the verge of a market break out

If we're talking about about lows, what do you consider to be a low price?
Are these lows sub 15k? Only some youtube speculators still wait for it to happen.
Are these lows sub 20k? With enough bad news that's still possible, but not very likely.
Are these lows between 20 and 23k? That's more likely, but not concerning.

I don't care about the short term, and the future in 2024 looks bright. If blackrock's ETH gets approved in the next 3 months we might go to 40k in an instant. I don't expect new highs before the halving, but I'm sure we'll be at much higher prices at this time next year.
802  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: June 16, 2023, 06:28:43 PM
I don't understand the reasons for this massive admiration of Ukrainians for Western weapons, it looks like a cargo cult. The F16 fighters are an approximate analogue of the MiG-29 fighters, of which Ukraine had noticeably more than the wildest expectations for the supply of F16, and most of them have already been spent.

I don't know where you're getting these numbers from. First you claimed that between 100 or 200 F-16s would not change anything for Ukraine, now you say they had more of their own jets before the war...

Ukraine had around 100 fighter jets total before the war (of various types) which included less than 70 MiG-29, so getting even 100 F-16s would be a greater firepower than they ever had in store.

LOL what? The special operation in Ukraine does not interfere with the ordinary Russian at all. People here live as usual and do not wake up every night from air raid alerts. I think the majority of the townsfolk, with the possible exception of residents of the Crimea, Belgorod and Kursk regions, just do not follow the events in Ukraine too much. Almost a year and a half is too long to focus on one topic. But on the other hand, the overwhelming majority understand that the defeat of Russia will turn into a catastrophe and only await victory.

Especially the ones that had a Russian bomb dropped on their city by mistake, or those who are in fear of getting drafted, or those whose family members were drafted and sent to Ukraine...
Don't forget about the families of those who died. Maybe they don't care because they got a Lada, or the government officials paid their respects by baking them a cake.
I'm guessing you can sleep well because you don't live in or near Belgorod, or in Kursk where those warehouses blew up.

803  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gender in Gambling [differences between Women and Men in Gambling] on: June 16, 2023, 06:09:49 PM
I've read an article about the behavioral differences between men and women and one of the points why it's said that women live longer is that their most basic social role was to take care of children and create warm safe environment for the family. A women's role was to be careful, as she wasn't as strong as a man, while he was to provide food, secure new areas of land, new hunting grounds, fight off danger.
Therefore a man is made to try new things, compete, even at the cost of sustaining some damage, physical and mental. We, men, will die trying, but a woman knows if she's gone the child may not survive, so she'll naturally want to play it safe. For this reason you see men racing cars just to prove a point, while women scream at them to calm down. Smiley
804  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jake Paul Vs Nate Diaz boxing Aug 5th on Dazn PPV on: June 16, 2023, 05:52:07 PM
The news today is that Nate Diaz was pushing hard for a 10 round fight and finally Jake said OK.  Then Nate reversed his position and says he's fine with a shorter fight.  Not sure what the point of this was, but it seems to me like they rushed into the announcement a little bit and they're still trying to get the details worked out.  I haven't changed my mind though after seeing more footage of Nate boxing.  I think Jake will win and Nate will end the night covered in blood.  If they met outside of a boxing ring though, Nate would choke Jake out in less than a minute and I'd put money on that.

On one hand Diaz is fast, at least he used to be fast. Haven't seen him box but I watched some of his MMA fights. That said, McGregor was outboxing him in his prime, so I don't know...
I remember a few fights where Nate would start standing, trying to box, then get cut fast and start going for takedowns. The problem is this time there will be no going for the legs.

One thing is certain, both these guys are some extreme characters, you either love them or hate them, the way that if they were arguing about some stupid shit I wouldn't know which one to back because they both can act like assholes.
805  Other / Archival / Re: No panic while holding my Bitcoin on: June 15, 2023, 07:13:49 PM
This and many more is the reason behind my current confidence in Bitcoin's ability never to let me lose if I hold for a long time.
Indeed knowledge is power, because knowledge can save you when money failed, because knowledge failure is a lifetime problem but money failure in terms of investment is temporally and if I wait I will soon be in profit again very soon, that is what past records have shown and proven.

This is a bit childish, like you're trying to convince yourself that everything is going to be fine.
If you need assurance, you've invested too much in this.

Have you ever thought how many of us approach this so that we're completely calm and don't even need to check the price? We either invest so little that it doesn't matter, or we're so far in profit that it's basically impossible to be at a loss ever again. I check charts from time to time, see bitcoin up or down by 10% and don't even care. The only thing that makes me angry is bitcoin being involved in this strange war of the US vs shitcoins and all that it's going to lead to is US being left behind by all the crypto companies and deprived of tax money that it could've had.

Bitcoin is going to be here in 2024 and in 2025. All that will change is the places where people will mine, buy and spend their coins. You can be in or out, but bitcoin will be there with or without you.
806  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ambivalent attitude to gambling on: June 15, 2023, 06:55:10 PM
It seems that lotteries are not included in gambling because we may experience seeing many people collecting tickets from shopping, collecting points, or others, which can be exchanged for certain prizes depending on the number of their tickets. Even though it falls into the gambling category, the business owner packages it into entertainment with prizes so that it makes people not see it as gambling.

The lottery has now changed into many varieties and forms so people don't think it is a hidden gamble. They keep collecting as many tickets as possible to get their desired prizes. So it depends on the attitude of each person. If they judge the lottery as gambling, they can't buy and leave it. Or if they feel that's okay or not a form of gambling, they can buy the ticket or collect as much of the lottery as possible.

Staking money or items of value for a chance to win a prize is gambling. If you gamble without money, with points, the way children sometimes do at parties, it's not gambling, but you're mixing two different things here.

As another user pointed out:

We have to put a clear line between lotteries where you gamble with something that you get for free like store points given to you when you spend a certain amount of money and real gambling where you buy a ticket with your money that you could've spent elsewhere.
807  Economy / Gambling / Re: Gambling addiction causes ear deafness? on: June 15, 2023, 06:45:23 PM
I thought at first from your topic title that the individuals had physical deafness until I read the entire message and this is why I decide to comment since the title is misleading because there is a difference between ear deafness and not listening to advice and I think in this situation you have over-emphasis and push too much.

But all the same,  you are right when you said those who are addicts are not aware or simply overlook their gambling excessiveness but another person can easily notice that.

I had the same idea. I thought he'd cite some pseudoscientific article claiming that gamblers become deaf.

It's like OP is trying to take one of the old topics and add a twist to it so it doesn't look the same because we've already had a number of articles asking why gamblers don't want to change, but this is the first time that I see someone ask why they don't listen to advice and come to a conclusion that they could be deaf Cheesy

They don't listen for the same reason why a drunkard keeps drinking even though he's at the bottom, sleeping in a park.
808  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: June 14, 2023, 10:44:54 PM
If. Grin

Yes, if. You started to speculate here that it would not change a thing. The thing is, it would.
They aren't probably going to get this much but it would make a difference and I hope they will get it and push Russians outside their borders.
If Ukraine were to do enough damage to make them run back to Russia I'm sure it would make life easier for everybody, even the average Russian who goes to work and watches TV every day hoping for the war to finally end. Since Putin doesn't want to end it, somebody else has to end it for him.

I love your cherry picking when you quote only these articles that fits your narrative. Why not initial US intelligence stance that Russia is responsible for it
https://english.alarabiya.net/News/world/2023/06/07/US-intelligence-indicates-Russia-being-responsible-for-Ukraine-dam-attack-Report
Or Rishi Sunak saying that was Russia's new low:
https://www.politico.eu/article/rishi-sunak-blasts-russias-new-low-ukraine-dam-explosion/
Finally, this messages from 205th separate motorized rifle brigade means nothing and it's not evidence against Russia:
https://t.me/mototroopers_205/1033

I'll tell you how Russians will react to this:
First link is US, so it's a lie because US is clearly anti-Russian, so it's fake news.
The second link is from another NATO country so obviously they will blame Russia because they're on Ukraine's side.
In the third link they're saying destroying a dam was a mistake, but maybe they mean a Ukrainian mistake Wink
Still no evidence against Russia. Cool
809  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Easy or hard to quit? on: June 14, 2023, 10:32:40 PM
It depends on the amount but I probably wouldn't be able to quit. If the amount was high, but not high enough to change my life, like $100k, I'd keep playing thinking that's not a big deal, many people win 100k... If the amount was really high like a million or more, I'd think that I have enough to not care about a loss.

As you can see in both situations I'd keep gambling and I think that most of us would because having big money only makes you more confident.
810  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: June 14, 2023, 07:59:52 PM
ps Video of collecting trophies in the Zaporozhye direction. In the frame, the American Bradley A2 with a running engine and the German Leopard 2A6 also seem to be in quite good condition. I think this technique will be towed to the rear for a detailed study.

Nice, good for you.

Anyway, here's a video showing how Ukrainians are flushing rats from under a tank
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlE8g-hJlfM

even the supply of a hundred or two F16 fighters, which Ukraine so dreams of, will not noticeably change the current balance of power and it is not in favor of Ukraine.

200 fighter jets would not change anything? Since the beginning of the war Russia has lost over 300 planes. Obviously if Ukraine were to get 200 it would have complete air superiority, provided they'd have enough pilots to fly them.
811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stop stressing kids with bitcoin on: June 14, 2023, 07:38:07 PM
Please don't get me wrong because I'm typically  not against teaching  or maybe introducing bitcoin  to your kids but I'm  on the opinion  that rather than bother them with this complicated digital asset (bitcoin) knowing fully well that no matter how much knowledge  we have about it, if we don't have the money to buy, then we'll  certainly  miss out, and judging from this, I don't think it's wise teaching them or wanting to force it on them when we know that they can't afford it.

I don't agree with this at all. What does having money has to do with owning bitcoin? You don't need money to get it and this forum is a perfect example to support this claim.

What age children are we talking about? I have a little girl that cares about going for a walk in the woods, playing with her dolls, chasing our cats around the house and things of this sort. I'm not going to teach her about bitcoin yet. When she's 10, I'll be trying to get her to know bitcoin, that's for sure. I don't think she'll be stressed by that any more than playing chess or reading a book would stress her.

Bottom line, if your kid is smart enough to learn how to use a phone and use the Internet, he or she isn't going to be stressed by bitcoin.

Hey, I feel negative vibes in your mood (and also a bit of presumption).

No negativity mate, I can simply recognize when someone is full of shit and trying to put the blame for his own actions onto someone else.
If you look at the posts on the previous page, they were mostly talking about You, not Fil. About your votes being added on the last day by new accounts made on that same day.
Then you come and say that although Fil is a friend, you will point a finger at him, because his votes are suspicious too.
Don't you find this to be childish and pathetic? I sure do.

Anyway, looks like we're sticking with the story of: I made 10 of my friends who never had discord register and vote for me on the last day, so I could win...
Congratulations on your well deserved first place. I'm done here.

Well what can I say .... a little less hypocrisy.

813  Economy / Economics / Re: Binance crisis - how will it affect the crypto market? on: June 13, 2023, 01:24:20 PM
Binance is the biggest exchanges and if you experience a crisis, of course this is very dangerous, but I'm sure Binance has a large capital and will not experience a crisis, and about 6 hours ago I withdraw from Binance and everything is no problem.

You should've done that long ago.
If this crisis makes people worried about the safety of their funds and learn about self-custody it's all for the better.

I see a lot of positive aspects in this. First of all this is going to put a pressure on Binance. Stress test it so that we'll finally, in Buffett's words, se who's swimming naked.
Then there's the issue of Binance's insider trading and commingling of funds, which shouldn't be happening. They were too full of themselves and playing with fire, until they got burned, so if that makes them lose money on lawyers and fines, it's fine by me.
Finally, we have the issue of regulation in the US. The fact is, crypto regulation doesn't exist yet, but Gensler is trying to make exchanges look worse than they really are and working outside the law. A great example of this is comparing Coinbase to Binance, when Coinbase was being audited and it wasn't doing any insider trading and commingling of funds.
Armstrong said they're ready to go to court, and IMO this is going to take many years, so the SEC will have another chair by the time we see a verdict.

Out of curiosity, I checked the exact account creation time and date via Discord ID (which is unique for every account and you get it by right clicking on someone and clicking "Copy User ID") of the last 9 accounts that voted for Mendace and results are interesting. All those accounts are created on the evening of June 10th (afaik last day of voting) in an hour or so its probably one person behind all of them.

For those who want to check it out by themselves, here is the tool https://hugo.moe/discord/discord-id-creation-date.html

Correct, as pointed out earlier in the thread by another user:

You don't have to be a detective to see that a large number of people who voted for this year's winner created their discord accounts on the same day (June 10) that happens to be the last day of the voting and all these people have very similar generic cartoon avatars.

It's really curious to note how many accounts were registered during 2022 and some a few days before the closure but the thing that makes me think more is that some are registered in the same days... funny isn't it?

I don't want to cry out to the scandal but it all seems very surreal, almost as if it were a year-long preparation or simple coincidence. Wink

Edit: he also voted for himself

Dude, are you trying to sidetrack the conversation?
The accounts you've listed as proof of suspicious behavior were at least made BEFORE the 10th of June.

You're saying that Fillippone's votes are suspicious because the voters registered in 2022, while some of your voters did that on June 10 2023, the last day of voting.

Let's stop ignoring the elephant in the room and ask you a direct question that we'd all like to know the answer to.
Did you create accounts that came to vote for you on June 10?

A warning to whoever thinks this is a legit offer. OP doesn't want to make a deal with you on the forum and wants to talk via telegram. You'll probably be invited to a private group where you'll be asked to pump shitcoins or advertise ponzi schemes. That's why he doesn't want to leave a trace here on the forum. They may also want to scam you by making you do a job for free.

Or it's this:

About the project - it would be a platform where users need to bring other users on board in order to earn something. Yeah we know this looks ponzi/scam and for that we were building a completely decentralized platform where no one would actually have control.
816  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: June 12, 2023, 09:44:39 PM
This is direct evidence against Ukraine. Maybe you, in contrast, have direct evidence against Russia, in addition to unfounded accusations? No, you don't have them, and no one has them, otherwise they would have been circulated by all Western media. There is no evidence that Russia did it and there is no motive for Russia to do it. The best argument against Russia is that if there had been no invasion at all, then the dam would have been intact. This is a ridiculous argument.

A himars hit that occurred more than 6 months ago is not a direct evidence against Ukraine. You don't seem to know what a direct evidence is, so I'll help you with that.
When someone gets murdered and that person was attacked some time before, this is not direct evidence against that former attacker. The fact that he tried to do it a year before doesn't mean he did it again and succeeded. A direct evidence would be if you had a murder weapon with his fingerprints or you'd found victims blood on his clothes.

That hit in 2022, or any other existing plans for it did not blow up the dam. Planted explosive devices did. Ukraine doesn't have a single missile capable of such destruction. It would require multiple hits to level the dam and there's evidence for a single explosion.

Even one test hit and a frank admission of it is much more than zero.

It used to be direct evidence and now it's more than zero. Your confidence seems to be decreasing with time.
Again, a test hit 6 months ago is not an evidence against Ukraine.

which were confirmed by the action in the form of shelling. Lol. Grin

Shelling with what? Confirmed by what sources? Russian?
AFAIK there are even reports from seismic watchers in Norway that there was an explosion at the dam, not shelling. US satellites confirmed the information with infrared sensors that detected a single explosion.
Also, according to reports from Ukraine the dam was rigged with explosives some time ago, long before the counteroffensive. This is consistent with the way Russians operate. They did the same in Zaporizhzhia power plant and almost blew it up when one of their mines exploded unintentionally near one of the buildings.

Washington Post ok?

I'd expect something better than an article from 2022.
I guess they're now equipping himars launchers with delayed fuse that explodes 6 months later. This reads like a story straight from kp.ru

Quote
Glad you're having fun. If Russia is fighting so badly, where is Ukraine's successful counteroffensive? Grin

It must be going well for the Ukrainians if Russians are blowing up dams and drowning their own soldiers in the process, trying to stop it.
818  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can bitcoin die? on: June 09, 2023, 06:43:26 PM
If all countries make regulations that bitcoin mining is prohibited, is it true that bitcoin will die?

It's never going to happen the way you describe it because of the following reasons:
1. All countries cannot even agree what the age of consent is, if jihadists are terrorists or not, if Russia should be condemned for starting a war, if drugs should be banned, capital punishment, abortion...
If they can't speak with one voice in these terms they will never agree in softer topics like bitcoin, that isn't killing anyone but enabling freedom and banking the unbanked.

2. There are already countries where bitcoin is accepted and regulated and the right to own bitcoin and mine is protected by law, so even the rest of the world turns against it, there will always be places where it's allowed.

Let's say it would get banned in 100% of the world, which is impossible, but let's imagine that it for a moment. It would go to the underground, like torrents and dark web markets. It wouldn't die but it would become hard to get and would lose most of its trading volume and take a price hit, but it would still be there waiting for better days.
819  Economy / Economics / Re: To Hodl or Lend: What is your take? on: June 09, 2023, 06:33:21 PM
I hold my coins and avoid any exchanges or lending platforms. I used to feel like it's important to keep generating bitcoin by constantly putting it at risk: trading it, gambling, lending, investing in shitcoins, now I know better.

Having a lot of wealth stored in bitcoin also helps to make a decision because the more you have the less you feel like risking it. Spend time reading posts by newbies here and you'll see that they all want to make money fast and are willing to risk it all. Long time users, people who were here for 10 years will almost never do that. All of them will tell you to stay calm and hold bitcoin, maybe with some occasional trades if you feel like it.
