when the last coin is mined in 2140, then all the miners will shut down and the network will die.
Bitcoin will still be used and will generate transactions fees. Hobby miners would still keep some equipment connected even without any reward. Plus, the transaction fees get distributed with the mined block too. And if Bitcoin catches on, there will be MANY transactions.

Its just people claiming to have more than 100 Coins. Probably not true. Why's it so unbelievable for someone to have more than 100 BTC?

Oh, I didnt know about that. Thanks for the heads up. Question: Whats the real deal? How am I supposed to get my torrents now? Private trackers, or just try torrentz.eu (it's a meta search engine). Any good private trackers out there? iptorrents.com is pretty good for a beginner. Keep in mind that private tracker have very strict rules and you have to mantain a download:upload ratio. Which means, you must leave your torrents on seed and/or upload new content.

Checkpoints are added by the devs at every new release (except perhaps some very minor patch releases) but the problem is that you need to be able to trace back UTXOs to their origin (known as "coinbase") which actually still includes the very first blocks created.
I gather that "pruning" will eventually help reduce the burden by being able to remove all spent UTXOs from the data needing to be kept.
I don't think pruning is a good idea. One should be able to keep ALL history. If it's too much for you, use Electrum or something similar.

If it's too resource intensive for you, you can use more lightweight clients like Electrum.
Bitcoin Core uses the entire blockchain because it runs like a node and has to contain everything, from the genesis block. It's needed for proper functionality and helps decentralization. It wouldn't be good if the entire blockchain is only on 10 places in the world.

Wait, what wallets are you trying to install? I'm pretty sure you can apt-get Bitcoin Core.
Also, every other wallet will have install instructions on their forum thread/website.
