Most scams derive from the stupidity of the victim, does that make it legitimate practice to "prank" or "teach" the (naive or inexperienced) stupid person a lesson?
I can't tell if you read what I said or not, but you realize that was also my point? What I did was stupid and I'm not interested in every doing something like that again. I learned a lesson. The point of this thread is, "is TradeFortress going to learn his?" and "Is Theymos going to pick and choose when to have standards for bans and scammer tags?" On a slightly unrelated note, I am glad I did not accept those ASIC shares now as it is not good business to involve yourself with people whol like to fuck about with your money.
Not sure what to say to this as I think it was said in misunderstanding of what is going on..

My other account is hero member. No worries I'll start testing with some friends. What's your other account? (That would help people know if they're wasting their time or not). For example, if you were "dank", then people probably would call you on Skype en masse, but for an entirely different reason.

Did anyone at the conference say "Buttcoins"?

You miss the point, programming is done uniquely by each and every one of us. There's basically no limitations. Oh yeah, there are people who offer the same old boring stuff, eg. make me a Bitcoin converter. I'm talking about something unique, something different, otherwise there is no point. Although, if you want to run this sort of business, you need to learn for a long time, it does eventually pay off.
The point? The point is that there are a ton of programmers and "programmers" offering their services. Basic supply and demand states that OP should try and start something that isn't a programmer offering their services, since there's already a huge supply on that front. Unless, of course, there's some kind of creative angle to be had by applying programming skills. I'm actually having a fuckload of a hard time finding anyone with any skill in node.js.

Maybe it would help (just a bit) if people actually knew that you weren't just a 12 year old claiming to know something about bitcoin. Right off the bat having a newbie account makes one suspect "not a veteran".
Just sayin'.

Welcome! That business model sounds like a wonderful one where lots of people will set themselves up for having their money reversed back into your account up to 1 year later! Count me out.
Good luck!

This entire debate is the same as my Pirate bet where I didn't ask for escrow (because I was trying to prove a point about making bets without escrow and trusting strangers on the internet). I never accepted a penny from anyone and I still got instant scammer tagged and was held to actually paying people the balances of my prank.
The general consensus was that I "scammed expected value" or some whatnot. Despite feeling awful for others having made ignorant financial decisions based on that bet and having learned my lessons, you'd think this community would have learned it's lesson too. Instead, here we are again, except this time it seems Theymos is waiting on something (I'm honestly not sure what that is). I don't know what he's waiting on for BFL either.
Bottom line for community (a lesson I learned the hard way): Don't fuck with other people's money to "teach them lessons", despite your passionate crusade against stupidity.
Bottom line for mods: Stop having double standards for everything that happens on the forums. It's either okay to scam expected value (cheating), or it's not. Pick one and stick with it. </end thread>

Also isnt the point of Bitcoins to keep it private?
Everyone uses bitcoins for different reasons. I don't think the *point* of bitcoin is privacy, nor is the *point* to be able to buy drugs easier, people just use it for what they want. Personally? I use it so I can buy a plane on a forum easily without ever stepping foot on the tarmac.

I wouldn't be surprised due to your attempts to obfuscate (something the internet hates by nature) the very next person who gets information from you simply releases it here in this thread. I think you made too big of a deal about it and should have just kept things simple.

The reason nzhang has to hire a security detail is due to the perception in China that he is raking it in, not necessarily due to the fact.
In our hallway conversation with Yifu after his talk, I believe he mentioned that Batch 2 was a break even to money losing proposition (someone else who was there can confirm). This was why the price of Batch 3 went up. SMT lines aren't cheap.
I do not understand. Why buy an SMT Line if you are not going to make machines anymore? I thought Generation 2, they were just selling chips? Maybe they're renting one.

Update: - gweedo opted to upgrade 2% (from 4% to 6%)
- jski laid claim to 5% and is awaiting coinbase fund clearance
This leaves 3% left at 1.95 BTC available for purchase still. 2 parties have already inquired but not sent payment.

To start a business now in bitcoin, you need to be creative. To be creative, you need to remove yourself from that which dilutes your creativity (aka this forum). Take a look at other places on the internet for inspiration, focusing on places where bitcoin could actually solve a current problem or expand on an existing solution. It may take a while but sometimes those inspirations will just jump out at you even while you're walking down the street. Sometimes those aren't inspirations, but are really muggers. Either way, you'll probably lose money in the end.

so how do we handle payments? where do I need to send?
PM the OP. Payments for your winning shares in this auction are made directly to him. He already paid me for his shares long ago. Once payment is made and confirmed, I will change his information to yours. To change information I will need: - an email address you don't mind being displayed publicly in association with this purchase
- a bitcoin address you don't mind being displayed publicly in association with payments from the ASIC mining profits

Since I'm ignorant of the UK banking systems and such, why wouldn't just withdrawing through SEPA from Bitstamp be better? Isn't that free?

Matt, how come you are registered as untrustworthy?
Off-topic, but click the link in my signature. It should help explain that.

From the original auction: Quote from: Matthew N. Wright on April 02, 2013, 09:25:30 PM Quote from: ninjaboon on April 02, 2013, 09:11:37 PM show us proof, like the email receipt. Please read this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=163795.0I'll share it with Tysat since he's a moderator here and he can either confirm or deny my claim of receiving one here in Korea. I can confirm that he has an order for a batch 3 Avalon that's been paid. No need to worry about there not being a unit. ------------------ Never has it been mentioned before that you have two units. For me it doesn't add up, sorry. I'm out. Ah I remember now (on my phone or I would have checked). Tysat verified the order from Avalon. Seems like you sending a PM to Tysat would help clear up your confusions. Cheers.
