162  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: attn mods: please remove false feedback from my trust profile on: June 18, 2013, 10:23:48 PM
Mods cannot remove false feedback, and we would prefer if it stayed this way, like on bitcoin-OTC. Before the complaints come in, note that I've a few false feedback either anyway.

John,

How about a way to at least address the negative feedback?  They had something similar on Ebay (maybe it's still there haven't used it in years).

For example, if johnblaze receives a negative feedback from CanadianGuy, he gets to make a small retort.  Perhaps a link to the scam accusation thread or a 160 char limited response.  This way people looking at feedback have a little more context without the trust system getting overly spammy.

Right, a rebuttal system would be nice to have.  It wouldn't change the score, but at least people could see why  something is.

Not only "why", it would allow people to apologize for things, explain their circumstances, explain that the person is just a scammer/spammer/extortionist, etc. Reputation is a social thing. Allowing people to libel/slander against you without allowing you to apologize or defend yourself is taking all the benefits of society away and leaving all the negative parts.

I wish I was first to respond to this thread because I was going to say "We caught you scamming and demoted you", but now I see that joke would no longer be funny.

Hi Matthew. It's always funny! But probably you wouldn't like at all that some rule demoted you from Hero Member and took some gold coins...  Grin

I'd gladly trade for some gray coins.

This is bullsh*t. If your going to do a post/activity ratio crap, you need to have both available next to the avatar. No one is just going to click your profile?

It's discrediting longtime forum members. Please Fix this immediately!!

Everybody has been saying that measuring people based on post count is a bad way to grant trust, so this should not affect anybody detrimentally.

Yeah I agree, but it's simple, just put both stats up. I don't think it's a bad idea, it just is incomplete.

I also don't know of many forums that don't display your post count next to your name, it's just weird, so let's get this fixed!!

If you really want that badly enough, change your theme. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;sa=theme
167  Other / Meta / Re: Activity on: June 18, 2013, 09:23:51 PM
Don't this incentive spamming?

No, it would take a long time to reach a high activity score with a new account, I hope people will be spending less time adding posts with no value to the discussion now that they see they can't become Hero members in a week.
Too bad activity doesn't affect maximum signature height Tongue

It really should, and ability to use colors and format codes and smilies and everything.
168  Other / Meta / Re: Activity & new membergroup limits on: June 18, 2013, 09:22:24 PM
Spamming is discouraged but so is posting.
So you post only if you feel you get trust from this?
You're exactly the point of the new system...

That's not entirely fair, he never came off like a guy posting here to build trust. Just seems to want to be involved in some things but busy enough not to be able to be involved in all things. For people like that, I don't know, maybe this hurts their activity rating and when people are saying "Low activity = scammer", maybe that's going to affect him negatively.
169  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Is Avalon mining with customer hardware? Answer is here. on: June 18, 2013, 09:17:37 PM
lol @ BitSyncom threatening to refund for customers that complain.

Like... wtf... how dare you threaten your customers like that... you are no better than BFL when you start doing that kind of shit, that is just wrong.

You realize most of my orders are not even mine? Some people have payed up to 2.5x what I originally payed just to get shares in payouts of the equipment I ordered. Do you realize how pissed these people will be when I tell them that BitSyncom cancelled my order and they now get <however much they payed> divided by 2.5 back?

Not only would they be quite mad, but I would be seeking any legal recourse possible for loss of income and the negative impact this would have on my reputation and on behalf of all the angry investors.

Customers have the right to complain, especially in this case because the complaints stem directly from your false promises and inability to deliver.

This. The childishness of Yifu's responses is getting old. This is from someone who used to call *me* unprofessional in the DCAO. Why don't they hire someone to do PR for them to help them on the front side? There is nothing wrong with customers wanting to know more, the attitude of "goddamnit, why do I have to answer so many questions after taking all your money?" is a sign of a scammer, I'm sorry. Try to remember Pirate and tell me that you want to be remembered like that, Yifu.

time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
activity = min(time * 14, posts)
I don't like it.

It embodies the assumption that any post above once per day (averaged over two weeks) is not contributing; which I do not agree with.

At the very least number of posts per day should be increased, e.g. min(time * 28, posts).

And you should consider more sophisticated metrics such as sum of f(x) over all two-week periods, f(x) being x / (1 + sqrt(x/14)) or x / (1 + x/28).

Time spent logged in will also be useful to include as a component.

I flunked math, but I could add that logged in time is easily gamable now with sites like newbiejail.org, so it would probably make more sense to judge length of posts as well. The best thing would be if Theymos accepted my request months ago to make a "post vote" and "user trust circle" function to allow for ratings of posts by content, eliminate newbie jail entirely by having a trusted user trust you, etc.

The next logical step would be to cut the status of people who haven't posted in X time interval.

You can't be a Hero if you've not posted the past week, you can't be Senior if you've not posted the past month. It'd help with the buying/hacking old accounts to prop scams.

This.
satoshi would wind up being a newbie Cheesy

Edit: he's fixed at "founder"

Nah, he's listed permanently as "Founder".

No, changing people's titles to "Scammer" and "Untrustworthy" despite evidence of the opposite is discrediting longtime forum members. This is allowing long time forum members to be respected for what they actually are--- ACTIVE-- and stop rewarding newbies for creating new accounts and spamming.

It's called a rebuttal, and I have screamed this to Theymos to no end. He just ignores it. Without a way to respond to negative feedback, there is no reputation system imo. It's just a slander system.

Oldsport, I have no opinion on the topic at hand, other than to say that what you're accusing that member of is typical of most members here. Did you really think all the members on this forum who post in "praise" of another member are separate individuals? Did you really think that everyone hates Ripple? Did you really think that anyone used that new Altcoin that came out yesterday? Welcome to the idiotic world of anonymity.
176  Other / Meta / Re: Activity on: June 18, 2013, 09:01:48 PM
I miss post counts. Activity is fine and all, but I still want to see post counts without having to click on the user's name.

Make a greasemonkey script.
177  Other / Meta / Re: Activity on: June 18, 2013, 08:42:56 PM
Wow, this is weird. I wonder if posts are time-weighted or bytes-weighted, and if time logged in plays a part. Maybe theymos won't tell us until someone figures it out  Grin

Easy way to figure out.

I'm gonna start deleting majorly long posts like those garbage "build a quite pyramid" ones.

edit; here goes nothing. 574 activity, now deleting a pyramid quote.

edit2: nope, didn't change shit.

edit3: still deleting huge posts of nonsense, not seeming to affect score at all.

edit4: I'm feeling a bit weird and tingly in deleting these posts. I'm starting to think faster.

edit5: I suddenly understand Calculus. Apparently the effects of removing shitposts have increased my IQ.

Redaction: It occurred to me that my presence is no longer necessary here as my new time travel machine requires my undivided attention. Adu.

You all registered in 2011 but Scott has about the same activity than post count, edd gets a /2 and Matthew a /10...

Maybe my posts are deemed "untrustworthy".

At least on the bright side, mine is my old area code.

I like this system simply because I'm higher than Matthew  Wink

That'd also be true for everyone on SilkRoad.
180  Other / Meta / Re: Activity on: June 18, 2013, 08:27:04 PM
Time for someone to make another bitcoin forum... Theymos and is ban crazy admins are ruining this one.

people would never migrate leaving their trusted accounts and everything, so that's not an option

it's an established monopoly for sure

Migration is pretty easy. Copy and paste the entire public database to a new forum software, allow people to "claim" their accounts by proving ownership over here with a code in PM. Pretty simple really.
