The fact that DOGE is transacting as much as ETH.

I don't know how to even process that info.

I don't want a bat slap... but I have a thought about DOGE and appropriately why Bitcoin will crush it into dust.

Elon always talks about how Doge has something that makes it good to transact with that Bitcoin does not have.  Has he ever identified it?  I personally think the SEC might should be interested.  Even though that upsets my own libertarian tendencies.  Aside from high fees and a massive inflation... well it can only be one of those.

And why would anyone choose to do business on the chain that is guaranteed to lose value at a fast rate?  I know the classical answer is the velocity of money argument, but why would anyone expose themselves to that risk if they do not have to?  Bitcoin will never do that as long as it has not been captured and destroyed.

So it seems to me, if he is as smart as he likes to act?  The only motivation he could have is manipulation.  Right?  He's a weird hero/villain type isn't he?

Even after all this time, I do not think I am ready.

Just a word.  It's going to get weird.  And intense.  And the sorts of mistakes we could make will suddenly be very different.  Some people will need to be very careful.  This is a dangerous place we are headed.  Think of Mircea Popescu, or kooky old Risto Pietila.  Think of Roger Ver.

There are members here that went before you.  And they have wrestled with what it means, and some have stumbled, but others have gotton along fairly well!  Be like those folks!

Be who you really are (which means to KNOW who you really are)  and do not let what's coming bowl you over.

Where we are going looks very shiny and fantastic, and in some ways it is.  And in others it is more dangerous than where we have waited so long...

About right here??  It wouldn't hurt to check your seat belts.

such drama

such wow

I know it!  But I am right too. Wink

Honestly this sounds exactly like the CYA someone would try who now fears getting subpoenaed by the Fed govt over this whole mess. I'm sure they are pulling all of her Twitter DMs, other social media messages, and phone records.

Exactly!  Delicious isn't it? Wink

847  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 10, 2022, 02:41:19 PM
Had more money than the entire market cap of Monero.

And kept it poorly encrypted on a cloud service /facepalm

I like the nuance here, though it is not orthodoxy.

As a defender of Bitcoin Maxis to some extent this guy goes too hard most of the time, though he is also usually right.  But in THIS case?  I would be willing to bet he is not looking deeply enough.

It will be shown, most likely, that they went in and out of Monero at some point, but any details as to those things will only come from outside leaks.  In other words they may have gone into Monero via some dark market, or exchange... but how many DETAILS will we see.

Using Monero cannot fix dumb.  But I bet if you look deeply there will bhe some pretty big holes in the data round those orange places on the flow chart!

Well... as we do... we have reached the top of the current channel.  But one of these is either going to break UP or DOWN.

So at the moment we are on the UP location.  So chances are we bounce up from here a bit and roll down back to .0040ish.  But then, like I said one of these times we will break up.  Could this be the one?

You tell me.

***EDIT NEXT DAY***

Well that was a quick one... and that's a nasty gap under the line...  Russia tension, I'd figure?

Not really a lot between here an 0.0037

***EDIT 2/12*** (I am doing this to save the mod the trouble of annoyingly combining posts.. I suppose the database is getting unweildy on this 12 year old forum.)

I guess on thinly traded assets the validity of these things is questionable, but it looks like the bottom trend line has flipped to resistance...  But at least we are seeing some volume.

But wait 'till you hear my flip side theory.  Hehe... It's a doozy.

Next post.

We (perhaps royal) need that like we need another hole in the head.

 Cry Cry Cry

cAPS: Flip side theory.

Shit!!!!!!

I'm too late.

This is not a new theory, but I have never taken it seriously until today.  But I also give it very little credence.  It's a wild ass crazy thing.

Central Banks have been rushing around trying to figure out how to make a digital currency for a decade now.  They are getting closer to a test that I would have thought possible.  But they are super far behind.  And you KNOW they know they are fucked.

What if... the most powerful central bank hired... uhh... I dunno, say the inventor of SHA256 to develop a viral, unbeatable new world currency that they would control to the extent it would be possible considering the fact that one reason that it would be viral is that it is TRULY a decentralized system.  Or, even better the FED did NOT hire them, but instead it was launched by a secret (possibly even rogue) element in our intelligence world.

Say they just released it on the cypherpunks mailing list under some pseudonym Nakamoto, SAtoshi and did everything they could surreptitiously to help it catch on?  How would they control it, you ask?  Well they wouldn't once it was launched.  But they would be able to virtually "premine" more of it than anyone else.  And then someday after it gained worldwide traction and the price of it stabilized they could come clean (or not?  I am not sure about this part) and  introduce a plan to monetize the USGvmt with the Satoshi coins?

Sorry to interrupt you in the midst of your seemingly detached fantasy - but it seems to me that several of the fall outs of the 2017 forkening attempts and the various subsequent failures have already negated the possibility of any supposed decentralized coin to displace bitcoin - absent a clear an unequivocal 10x plus improvement over bitcoin, and surely what you describe is not even close to having a chance.

By the way, what you wrote kinds of reminds me of several of the conspiracy theories regarding what bitcoin "really is", which there are pretty decently sized contingencies that presume that the USGovt or various status quo TPTB have backdoors into bitcoin - so surely you seem to be describing one way to overcome bitcoin is to have a back door into it.

At another time, you had mentioned that you thought that pumping Ethereum's success could be another kind of backdoor way to conquer bitcoin.. which seems to be a more convincing angle than anything that you have so far presented today in your part 1 and part 2 attacks of these undermining bitcoin questions.

Don't get me wrong.  I am not even asserting that some of these might not be tried or that they may already be in the process of being tried.. USGovt siding with faketoshi for example could be one of them.. but still, there is no real evidence that anything they are doing so far is even close to successful and part of the reason that some of us (inckluding yours truly) have been considering bitcoin to have been and likely to continue to be successful way beyond our even most wild of our imaginations of bullish scenarios.

This would be the perfect way to launch the worlds dominant CDBC.  And ahead of all the competition.  And it would be done in a way that would be both a gift to the world, and a great benefit to the creating country.

Ok.. this part is a bit better.

How would this government act during the first 20 years of it's existence?  Well they would act disinterested.  They would slow play their hand.  They would act like they did not really SEE the risk.  And most of them would not know because it would be ultra-argon-xoomax Top Secret.  They would not make it illegal... and they would wait on OTHER COUNTRIES, perhaps even their enemies to take it up first and embed their economies with it.  Some of them would bitch and scream, but over all they would just go on printing dollars like usual.  Well more than usual.  They would be printing them faster and faster.  They saw this coming too after all.

Then after Russia, and perhaps China, and some other economies adopt it... after it is safe to do so, they could begin to pull the curtain back, and though this might cause all kinds of temporary instability the game theory here works itself out pretty fast as well.

*Sigh*.  I can only wish that the US government, or ANY of them for that matter was wise enough to think up a thing like this...

But the result will end up the same no matter what.  This monetary avalanche is well underway and unstoppable at this point.  There will be winners and losers, of course, but it will not be stopped.  At least I do not think so.

Well, at least you come to the right punchline conclusion, and I am not even disagreeing with the idea that they are trying things and they have "things up their sleeves."  At least we are in agreement that they are too little too late, even though you want to speculate regarding ways they might be working on supposed projects.

Anyway... I said it was crazy and do not claim it to be original... I mean I have never read anyone else really try to flesh it out, but I know people have theorized it.)  But all the things that have happened?  They can actually fit a theory like this fairly well...  lol.  An obviously I have Americentricized this.  It could be many other world powers that did it...

I agree with this part too.. .Various countries and status quo institutions are trying various things.... and that is likely to continue as ongoing and perhaps as severe as they can get away with from time to time.. even while they are getting called out and having to back down at various times when they are found out.

[edited out]

Dude they already did it BTC is the name of it. Grin

Exactly!!!   That's the already existing theory.  You beat me to it philip.

Well, I evidently did the worst job ever presenting my case, because that is precisely what I was saying!

What they going to do?

Are they going to end up scaring bitcoin outside of the US?    Is there going to be any kind of distinction between Bitcoin and shitcoins?  or is that going to be part of the upcoming mistake?

Well... I see this with a lot of nuance.  But there are several things they could try to do that would be ultimately futile, but could cause some nasty ripples (pun not intended... but then...) as well as harm to certain individuals.  As a US citizen I could be in that bucket, sadly.

First there is the precedent of Executive Order 6102.  I think this is unlikely, but not impossible.  Right now all governments including the US gvmt are not doing well in the reputation and confidence arena.  And that kind of move by an administration that is fairly well hated by everyone but the choir would likely not go over well for them.  Also the Bitcoin virus has already spread so far and deeply that not only would this be bad for many businesses, but it would hurt individual government folks.  And there are also several other practical differences that I will not take the time to go into here.  But that is one route forward.

Another, is if they were to pull a China and ban bitcoin or more likely try to neuter bitcoin by regulation.  Again, they are way too late, and this will not stop bitcoin no matter what they do.  It will just hurt the US.  But the amount of stupid we have been seeing from our government as well as the amount of evil... well I would not put it past them.

At this point several people would say "Well it's just the US.  This can't stop bitcoin".  And that is true! But it could hurt the US and it's citizens (me!). But, on the other hand this would also be a reality they would see if there is a peanut in any of their heads.

Anyway... It is not impossible for there to be a bad move made on the part of my country, and honestly?  I like at least what my country USED to stand for too much to see that happen.  Plus if they take away everything I have worked hard for I will be double pissed.

But wait 'till you hear my flip side theory.  Hehe... It's a doozy.

The more that we find out, the more implausible the whole story seems -... yet we do know that some dumb peeps do exist in this world, but somehow they might end up coming across fortunes of BTC or some other cryptos.  Something is missing in this story in terms of transferring online and into one wallet rather than maybe having some coins spread in various other places..

The only way i can try to shoehorn sense into this one is she has synesthesia, which means she is likely autistic which would explain both the really odd art/communication style, and could also account for an unusual ability to manipulate computer systems.

But yeah...  even that sounds like craziness, really.  Something/someone else has to have been involved.

I am sorry for all of you getting hit by Covid.  Hospital data shows that the recent variants are little more than a bad cold.  And even the prior bad ones have >99% survival rate for all but the very old or multiple comorbidities.  If you have a couple comorbidities you should see healthcare if you ever have trouble breathing.  Otherwise, statistically you are going to be fine.  And the current variants are God's own vaccine.

But.  Bitcoin.  Oh my God.  I cannot believe we are here.

The only fear I have right now is, as an American, our stupid government is more likely to knee jerk and fuck up than I would like to think.

The Bitfinex thieves (or at least the ones that ended up with the coins):

The most interesting thing to me here is confirmation that the feds are taking an interest in financial criminal activity the crypto/Bitcoin world.

It also shows something else too.

Shitcoiners want to rail on btc for being pseudo anonymous and for transactions being traceable. But it's a feature, not a bug. I guarantee you that if it truly weren't, the governments of the world would have made a concerted effort long ago to declare Bitcoin illegal. In some ways, it is Bitcoin's saving grace in terms of governments and corporations embracing and adopting it.

You see a lot of people railing against bitcoin because of that.  But I have a theory.  There are two kinds of people who take that postion:

1.  Alt-coiners (usually the ones bitter they "missed" bitcoin")
2.  Bitcoiners who are rich enough for them to "become principled".

That second group is something I have seen over and over.  it is as if early adopters made crazy huge amounts of USD value and then saw all the new Bitcoinners acting like greedy speculators exactly as they had in a previous cycle.  And they can now point their finger because, well what's the difference between a 50mm windfall, and a 300mm one? Either way they are set.  Now they can ride a high horse and be rich at the same time

Roger did it.  Junseth and Derose kind of did it... and so on.  I honestly think people feel guilty for getting rich and project that guilt on others to feel better about themselves.

Perhaps I am being too judgemental.  I am now seeing the Samourai folks and some other privacy/security curmudgeons complaining about NGU at all costs.  And perhaps they are truly just principled, but I do think a lot of these folks are in the "can ride a high horse now" category.

I guess it's a good thing that criminals are idiots.

Cobra doesn't agree with this.

Are we seriously to believe the absurd notion that someone capable of hacking 100K BTC stores the private keys in… CLOUD STORAGE?

I'm just surprised how many actually believe that story. How much more ridiculous a story must be for people to laugh at the source and not the silly story that they put out?

I see very few who agree with it.  Everyone thinks there is something fishy about it.

Are you guys seeing it?  My eyes are about to pop out of my head.

-The WHOLE WORLD is watching as governments collude with private businesses to steal 10mm from good faith donors
-At the same time the people have seen decentralized BITCOIN based solutions take in hundreds of UNSTOPPABLE thousands
-The US just topped over 30 TRILLION dollars USD
-Billionaires are tearing down the doors to get in.
-At least 25% of the globe has awakened to a worldwide conspiracy to push us into pods/no-meat/metavere/digital passports/CDBCs

THOUSANDS OF MILLIONS OF PEOPLE ARE GOING TO COME RUNNING.

"We are still early" <- Almost over.

I will put it another way.

That curve for the internet adoption includes millions upon millions of cell network towers being built.  It includes satellites being launched  into space.  It includes cables being laid across the bottom of the ocean.  It includes an entire generation of people in every country adopting smart phones (and/or computers).  It includes documents being converted into electronic form.  Entire  libraries digitized.  Millions of miles of coaxial cable strewn all over the earth. And then the same thing again but with optical fiber.  And most of that took, what?  About 30 years?

Bitcoin adoption?  Well it requires all the above, which is already done, and then?

Someone to download an app, and produce an address/invoice.  Not going to take 30 years.  The young generation can do that in 30 seconds.
