861  Economy / Exchanges / Re: www.BITSTAMP.net Bitcoin exchange site for USD/BTC on: February 11, 2014, 10:09:59 PM
They have much better PR than gox, I'm inclined to believe them.

This chaos is a good time to take a little break from btc craziness and go on with your real life stuff.

863  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mt.Gox SCAM? $38million disappeared. Large sums affected. on: February 10, 2014, 12:12:11 PM
http://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/2014/02/10/mt-gox-blames-bitcoin-core-developer-greg-maxwell-responds/

Confirmed. It IS MtGox's shitty code at fault!

Since MtGox has now firmly boxed themselves into a corner, I wonder what they will say and/or do?

now they will say we have enough bitcoins for withdrawal after they bought at US500/btc (it went to US102/btc at one point)

what a nice trick.. now the problem is fixed and everyone is happy.

If that's the case, then I applaud them. Imagine if people reacted in other way and raise price instead of panic selling?

In the real world, if you have two supermarkets nearby, and in one of them roof collapses, berrying people underneath it. What would happen to the other supermarket prices? They would become higher.

People on the other exchanges should react in same manner. If there's a problem at gox, that means noone can exchange btc over there, that means we should raise price because people will be forced to buy from us on other exchanges.
864  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Views on AlternatePool.com ? on: February 07, 2014, 08:13:08 AM
Big vern found some time to reset servers?

Well anyway, now with middlecoin hashrate, alternatepool is rather pointless...

wow, thanks for pointing that out. Did not hear about that pool before. Just as I wanted to point one of my miners elsewhere to increase variance. I wonder how will these two compare in a long run. Alternatepool has better options at the exchange in theory still.

UPDATE: looks like pool stopped adding to people's balanses. I'm stuck at 0.95 and 0.8 for more than a day or two now :/
865  Other / Off-topic / Re: Xbox One vs PS4 on: February 06, 2014, 01:58:50 PM
PC only and forever.

Although I would not mind if some of the games were to be ported. For example heavy rain, and beyond: two souls. But buying a console only because of those platform exclusive games? Maybe borrow from someone for a week or two, and that's it.

Other that those exclusive games, I see no point in wasting your money on any console whatsoever.
866  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Noise Level of Six 280x on: February 06, 2014, 01:51:55 PM
Depends on the card. Our five GPU rig with Gigabyte WF3 280x are virtually silent at idle, and barely audible at 80% fan. You can barely tell when the fan ramps up, but they do move some air, and are all <70C. You can hold a normal conversation right next to them with no issues.

No when a single blower 290 spins up, that sounds like a hair dryer. When we reboot the 290 rig, you can hear the noise difference from the other room, through 2 closed doors.

I concur. Triple fan cards are almost inaudible. My two fan cards are also quiet if below 70% fan.

For me the noisy culprits are cheap PSUs I have. They make up for most noise, but I cannot afford to swap them. I use good PSU for my desktop miner so I can use it comfortably, and the rest of PCs are angrily whining in the far corner. Although I does not bother me much, even when I go to sleep. If the noise is constant in it's nature - your brain will start to cancel it out, as with being in a room with unpleasant smell for long
867  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First great article on BTC by FT on: February 06, 2014, 01:44:45 PM
Article is somewhat good, I like multiple analogies authors tries to put there.

But wow, a news site which needs your email just to view an article? Preposterous. That's one of the many reasons I avoid facebook and alike.  Simply viewing should be open to everyone.

Sometimes when google-cache fails , I use temporary e-mail sites like 10minutemail and alike. Sometimes it's blacklisted, but they cannot blaclist ALL of the temp e-mail sites.

On a side-note wanted to share that btc found it's way into my country press yesterday. It was not presented in a good light though, basically Bank of Latvia and Finance and Market Committee are aware of bitcoin and ask our people to avoid it or at least to be uber-skeptical about it. And also that local gold traders are interested in bitcoin.

here are the links to latvian:

and russian articles, if someone's interested.

868  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: litecoin dead ? on: January 31, 2014, 12:18:48 PM

Even Quark is as relevant as Litecoin.

On some exchange that I have never heard of and might not even exist.  Roll Eyes

But them numbers next to BTC-E lulz

I think its a new exchange - and one that accepts canadian dollars (i know lol, fake money buying fake money) and us dollars

more like toy money buying toy money. But yeah, CAD is not backed by gold or etc. In fact they do not have enough gold to back anything, being at the bottom of top 100 gold reserve list.
869  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Views on AlternatePool.com ? on: January 31, 2014, 12:11:50 PM
looks like it's working again, let's see if there are withdrawals too Wink

ah yes, forgot about this thread. resumed mining there yesterday with 1 of my  lesser miners, looks stable so far. Will post if/when payout happens.
870  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people think income tax is ok? on: January 30, 2014, 04:17:16 PM
When people like me see the word tax they go apeshit.

This topic should be about INCOME tax only, I guess that way it would be less prone to flaming.

Rather then imposing tax on people, the gov should make money in other ways. Like running a state company for example. The best use I can think of - is to fine people/companies for different stuff, to improve things.

Let's say you local grocery store throws out spoiled products, which, it could sell if only the price would be more appropriate. But no. Greed led to spoiled products. Which is now fined in our glorious country. Next time the store manager will think twice between setting high prices or maybe will order less stuff. Or goes bankrupt, who cares. Another example - people on your block recycle less stuff, than required by law? Here comes the fine for everyone living on that block. And the government lives off those fines, amongst other sources of income.

Also the government cuts its military expenses by 80%, bureaucracy bullshit by 60%, election-associated stuff by 90% and so on.

871  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: BitInstant CEO arrested by FBI on: January 29, 2014, 10:56:40 AM
This forum search capabilities are the worst.

Heard these news, rushed to find more info on the forums, and what do I get? 2012 threads? Had to use advanced search, which is not perfect. In the end I just stumbled on this topic in "unread" section.

I guess most of early adopters have used SR in one way or another, and some % of those early adopter became big. Me, myself, first heard about bitcoin in some thread about SR on 4chan, not the other way around.

873  Local / Политика / Re: Латвия on: January 29, 2014, 10:17:15 AM

874  Local / Политика / Re: Украина on: January 29, 2014, 10:11:59 AM

875  Local / Майнеры / Re: Как часто перегружаете WiFi роутер? on: January 29, 2014, 09:42:31 AM

877  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people think income tax is ok? on: January 29, 2014, 09:29:12 AM
If stealing/taxing is necessary then, personally, I would prefer that it be done when the money is spent as opposed to when it is earned.

Where one guy spends his money another man earns it. But yes, it makes sense in a way - to remove income tax. Rich are paying more taxes already because they spend more Smiley.

Anyway, If I was happy with my country or it's government I really would not mind to pay 50% if I could afford it. But I don't see it happening anytime soon. Only if I get to make my own government, or if someone  establishes new bitcoin themed country with the prospect of brighter future.
878  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: newbie in mining on: January 25, 2014, 03:06:59 PM
one question, can i use the same worker on 3 or more computers at the same time or do i have to have a worker for each computer?

you must make a worker for each connection, it's also an easiest way to monitor separate hashrates.
879  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people think income tax is ok? on: January 25, 2014, 03:05:35 PM
They don't pay taxes in Qatar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qatar )- I suppose the anti tax US contingent of bitcointalk.org could move there - but then the US already owns Qatar doesn't it ? Or am I thinking of Kuwait/Saudi Arabia/Iraq/Oman/Libya/Nigeria/UAE etc etc.

If you do move there I hope you won't be going there to work [as well as avoid paying taxes through some kind of "libertarian" idealism]

    http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jan/24/qatar-2022-world-cup-185-nepalese-workers-died-2013

Its no place for the needy.

"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free"  ??  You must be having a laugh - not in Qatar sir - and not in the USA any longer it would seem. Embarrassed

What have you become America ?

Hate to break it to the "anti tax US contingent of bitcointalk.org" but http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expatriation_tax

LogMeIn was good until they turned in to bastards and pulled the free version without any warning a few days ago.

wow, really?
hamachi too?

imho that decision will bite them in the ass, as userbase diminishes, and there's no new converts without free option users.
