Wait wait, so let's get this straight.

900-1200 BTC are missing--regardless of how.

They're going to "fix it", despite not having the solvency to fix it?

How do you fix that when your worth was nowhere near that to begin with? "Hey public / investors / folks, can we borrow 1200 BTC" ?
862  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] "BitBaY" Commission Shares thread! on: March 31, 2014, 03:47:23 PM
A private opening once it's "complete" to the 'investors' would be worthwhile.
863  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GPUC] GPU Coin | GPU on-line sales OPEN | Marketplace is live on: March 28, 2014, 03:49:54 PM
seriously, would you go to all this trouble just to get a gpu  (if you were not already into crypto's) ?

If the savings were decent (15-20%), likely yeah, as long as it was as simple as $->Coinbase->GPUC. I don't use this coin personally though, if I want GPUs I buy Amazon gift cards at 20% under market value, and then buy off Amazon at or below MSRP and get a super discount.

This.. people need simplest way possible to convert $ into GPUC directly..

What I described is the simplest legal method. The owner of the company can't do it himself without crossing into new tax boundaries and more, much more, regulation overhead. If he wants to commit suicide, then  yes he could.

Thanks, I might give it a try.  If you want to run it a little easier, I am getting 490kh from mine but not running as hard at that.  I am at Engine 1130, Memclock 1250, TC 5121.

270's are amazing. My group has them running 495-500 solid with 0 HW errors, some of my folks even have them 510-520kh which is nuts awesome. So far, MSI has shown to be the most stable brand. Sapphire/Gigabyte has been a mix. The TOXIC 280X is also great, if you don't mind doing some tweaking to the bios, you can run it 750-780 at 175-200watts. Out of the box it'll do 805-820 @ 320-350w.

Yes the coin may not be as unique in a technical sense but having a proper plan on distribution is far more important than fancy features. Look at DogeCoin. It brings nothing new to the table but due to its spreading and people promoting, it has become quite big.

I agree, but it also has no tangible value which is why it's beginning to tank. It's only stayed alive due to 'celebrity' popularity. It's the E! of scrypto.

This might have a future, but keeping this as a scrypt coin makes this also a good target for multipools. Scrypt-n would maybe be better.

Silly talk. If you want a coin to be stable and safe, you want hashrate. The more miners, the more security. People wanting to avoid scrypt and asic don't understand what it takes to create a longterm coin with value.
865  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Crypto Rush - Crypto to Crypto exchange on: March 28, 2014, 03:31:37 PM
I agree that if you need to get your btc out, transfer it to an alt and jump ships quick. Looking into some data and studying some reports, it appears the only reason other coins are functional is because they weren't attacked and still have value in the servers' wallet.
866  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GPUC] GPU Coin | GPU on-line sales OPEN | Marketplace is live on: March 28, 2014, 01:49:57 PM
gaming community and perhaps the college community ....

how would someone get Gpuc .. without knowing about crypto in general .....

Lots of folks in college know what BTC is, at the least. They can use coinbase to purchase BTC with $ instantly, and then simply go to an exchange (or maybe even GPUC store itself) to get GPUC. All of this could be linked in a simple how-to on the website.

The primary link could be "Buy GPUC with $" or something.
867  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ☆☆ [ANN] SURGE ~~ A NEW WAVE IS COMING! ☆☆ on: March 28, 2014, 01:05:47 PM
And the point is...?

I asked the same thing. Check out my initial post here, their response after, and my response to that: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=529227.msg5911444#msg5911444

Summary: Their coin is unique because they're working hard to spread the word of its great use.
868  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GPUC] GPU Coin | GPU on-line sales OPEN | Marketplace is live on: March 28, 2014, 01:02:11 PM
..Wow. People already talking about changing and forking the coin in its infancy. Pathetic. Few of you understand how any of this works.

It's not the coin or the algo or the pantone color of the grey on the website, it's a matter of getting the business to be known and used. Like I said hundreds of pages back, this coin is nothing more than a transaction transport, it doesn't matter of the technical design as much as the flow of the product. If anything, ScryptN hurt more than it helped.

What you need to do, as some folks pointed out, is get the gaming community and perhaps the college community, involved. Let them know they can save a few bucks by using this system. You'll have GPU miners always since the hardware can adapt to any algo, but the volume of that target audience is going to go down dramatically this quarter, and short of something unique occuring, 2014 will see some new algos but no increase of GPU needs over supply.

Watching this project is like being at a most interesting zoo.
869  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Crypto Rush - Crypto to Crypto exchange on: March 28, 2014, 12:39:37 PM
BTC withdrawls still failing several days consecutively. IRC support channel useless.

Any CR staff care to talk about this? Just trying to get my tiny bit of BTC off.
870  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GPUC] GPU Coin | GPU on-line sales OPEN | Marketplace is live on: March 27, 2014, 08:06:17 PM
Exchange won't matter. Lifeblood is in the flow of the product off the shelves, and the restocking. People need to be using the coin. I realize this discussion is coming from people not having enough coin to make a purchase (at least, some folks), but there are folks who do have plenty of coin and are simply holding.

To be honest if you look at the price in the store and upvert it to USD, it's a good deal on many cards. I'm surprised someone isn't simply buying GPUC, buying the cards, and then reselling.

I'll be honest, I've considered doing that since I can pick the cards up from GPUCoin himself.
871  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GPUC] GPU Coin | GPU on-line sales OPEN | Marketplace is live on: March 27, 2014, 07:49:16 PM
I hate to be contrary but the bid price is the best reflection of the 'real' price.  What people are willing to pay vs get paid...  works in our favor I guess.

Hendr1x, can you index the storefront items to market price?  I want to be able to list in the storefront but not at a fixed GPU price, I want to be able to specify a $ price (as the GPUs are) and have the system compute the GPU price.  Possible?

It is definitely possible but it won't be done right away.  I wrote it down on my todo list and won't forget about it.

It may be wise to evaluate the method I mentioned to you in PM, which takes into account for volume. Otherwise anyone could literally control the price of the coin with a few accounts on exchanges and very little ownership in the coin.

872  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POT] PotCoin Launches Today 01/21 @ 4:20 on: March 27, 2014, 05:39:59 PM
I would also take all news with a grain of salt until a volume of undeniable evidence can point to one direction or another; whether coin was hacked/stolen, the wallet simply lost, etc. Don't leave any significant value in any exchange. Even Cryptsy is vulnerable, in fact all exchanges are.

Why use XYZ coin instead of Bitcoin for ABC purpose? That's always a good question. IMO if there's a business model in place with special features and/or agreements, then the unique coin in question would be worthwhile--otherwise use BTC.

LTC and FTC were geared toward smaller transactions, for example.
873  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GPUC] GPU Coin | GPU on-line sales OPEN | Marketplace is live on: March 27, 2014, 04:46:31 PM
With Asics ruining normal scrypt now, and will DEVISTATE it soon, our coin
being scrypt-n should be THRIVING, not getting lower.  We need some good

Roll Eyes

...and this is what you and folks like you don't understand. Value has nothing to do with the algo, otherwise BTC would be worth an ant's fart. Scrypt coins will go up in value, but only certain ones worth a damn. Poopcoin and Happycoin and Dogecoin  and Whatevercoin will not continue to rise over time, whether they use Scrypt, or ScyptN, or X11, or FunkynoodleAlgo or whatever.

This coin would actually be worth more right now if it were Scrypt. I know that's a hard load to swallow but it's true. I went over the math long ago as to why, but you hit on one of the points: electricity. When they switched the algo they failed to take into account electrical costs. They could've gone X11 with better results than ScryptN, but they didn't.

Anyhew, that's a dead horse. Like I said.. the business needs to get more and more attention. This would fix your problems of profitability.
874  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GPUC] GPU Coin | GPU on-line sales OPEN | Marketplace is live on: March 27, 2014, 04:22:26 PM
Well at current prices the sapphire 280x cards are selling for $318.36731376 which is a problem for the coin not the buyer. The original quoted price was supposed to be 380 the 62 in savings is a huge gap, I'm surprised there is still inventory in the store.

Good for Sapphire, but MSI 280x are $280 on Amazon if you use BTC->Amazon giftcard. So maybe people are doing that?

As for the pricing on the website, can the web dev post up his algo for that? I'm curious as well. Mostly to see if they took my advice Smiley
875  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GPUC] GPU Coin | GPU on-line sales OPEN | Marketplace is live on: March 27, 2014, 04:00:46 PM
51% or a Fork will be a 51% or a Fork regardless of where it comes from. GPUC is not secure from this yet, network hashrate too low. I know a few farms which could destroy the coin in a matter of minutes if they decided to. Hashrate secures the chain. You guys need more people on the entire network, regardless of where.
876  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POT] PotCoin Launches Today 01/21 @ 4:20 on: March 27, 2014, 03:45:20 PM
People just need to remain steady. If you want to mine it, mine and stay on your favorite pools. If you want to just hold some coins, buy them now before the price goes up. Pick one, or both.. and stick to it.

Unless you guys were around in BTC's early days, things were no different honestly. Potcoin is still, like its competition, a fetus. It hasn't yet been born into the commercial world, and has yet to grow, but there is great potential.

877  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GPUC] GPU Coin | GPU on-line sales OPEN | Marketplace is live on: March 26, 2014, 07:33:34 PM
As predicted, the weak minded are concerned about the very volatile price of GPUC and exchanges. If it's low, buy it low. They should be more focused on volume/flow of the actual business market (buying GPU's). Otherwise, the owner can't process another large order of GPU's at a low price, and the entire business plan will stall and crash.

Here's an idea, buy GPU's and resell them to get your money back. Jump start the business. The community is the blood of this project, without flow, there won't be any hope for it. It's stalling because not enough purchases are being made. If it's due to the market.. let the market settle down.
878  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ☆☆ [ANN] SURGE ☆ Human Mining (Promo) ☆ IPO - ESCROW ☆ Public Spread ☆ on: March 26, 2014, 02:36:37 PM
Yes we understand your concerns but the difference between this coin and any other is that we take this stuff very seriously and are going to be engaged into making this our top priority.

It's not so much a concern, as I likely won't ever mine this coin, I'm just analyzing it and helping others see the bigger picture. I could debate your 'we take this stuff seriously' by pointing you to about 12 other coins claiming the same, but instead I will wish you the best.

A better and easier to use wallet is already in the works and as I mentioned in my previous post, hopefully will be ready by launch. We aim at making the coin as widespread as possible and that is our primary goal.

I do agree that the wallet design is really far overdue for a change, as most people just copy/paste the current one. I think Megacoin is the only one I've seen actually functionally different.

We just launched the project not even a day ago and progress will be seen in the upcoming weeks.

Well, best of luck.
879  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ☆☆ [ANN] SURGE ☆ Human Mining (Promo) ☆ IPO - ESCROW ☆ Public Spread ☆ on: March 26, 2014, 01:31:50 PM
I checked the website and the promo section, it was all sparse at best unless you have a direct link to something I missed.

So far what I see is..

..no business backing/partnerships
..no commercial use at launchtime
..nothing awfully unique (many other coins have used rewards to incentivize people to spread the word)
..nothing apparently forward-thinking regarding sustainability

Not trying to skewer you, just cross-examine and determine value of what appears to be another hyped-idea of a coin platform.

BTC buy-in won't set market value as you'd like to claim; miners hitting the exchange and using the coin for commercial purposes will. If you have no commercial outlet or business partnership, this leaves only mining, and miners need to pay their electric bills, and will dump the coin for whatever value they can get.

On the positive side, you have a nice logo, I do like the logo.

Surge, what's the point of this coin project? Aside from claims for faster/better common-use transactions, why not use something else? You're pulling an initial BTC buy-in for development, toward what goal? I skimmed the thread but didn't see anything in particular--perhaps I missed it.
