861  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [WTB] $50 of BTC. Just trying to see if by any chance someone accepts Dwolla on: August 24, 2014, 10:10:28 PM
You're using the same payment method that brought Tradehill down to its knees, and this is why no one has used it for years.
862  Economy / Speculation / Re: I AM HODLING on: August 24, 2014, 10:06:06 PM
The infamous hodlign thread that started it all

You're doing it wrong. It's HODLING
863  Economy / Lending / Re: Loan request ... on: August 24, 2014, 09:30:31 PM
As for respect for the law, I have no respect for the law, but I do have respect for my fellow human beings. As an agorist/anarcho-capitalist/libertarian etc., I really feel that pre-emptively restricting your fellow human beings behavior in order to prevent them from harming others is not morally acceptable. Holding people accountable for their actions is; however, in this case, I did not harm anybody. The girls were both fine, the taxi was not damaged. I did no moral wrongdoing. The police are simply jack-booted thugs protecting the interests of the state, there is no honor in cooperating with them. I consider myself to have been captured by the enemy.

You have good morals in one aspect, but it lacks in a different area. Lets not look at the law for a second. You still had two fellow human beings in the back when you ran. You put both of their lives and the taxi driver's life directly in danger, and indirectly put everyone else around you in danger as well. You ran to save yourself, and the two girls had no say in whether they want out or not. Hows that for respect for your fellow human beings? It COULD have ended pretty bad. Just because nobody was hurt does not mean your actions are justified.

This is almost the equivalent of saying you brought fully automatic guns to a school shooting, hailed some bullets at everyone but happened to miss every shot. But it's perfectly ok to do so, just because you didn't actually kill anyone.
864  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'm dissapointed about using bitcoin as a currency, it really should improve on: August 24, 2014, 09:11:53 PM
I've paid several times in bars and restaurants with bitcoin (I go there especially because of bitcoin) and every time I was ripped of.
Every time I paid a premium of 5 to 10% above FIAT price when I paid in bitcoin.

5% is a reasonable premium, but 10% is pushing it. It also depends on which exchange you base the price on. Even if you use the highest priced exchange, you can't really use a 1:1 ratio, because it cost money to wire fiat into an exchange or withdraw fiat out, and another small fee to actually make the exchange. These fees are factored in the premium.
865  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [Exchange]Paypal to btc-e code. Only UK-£238 on: August 24, 2014, 08:44:45 PM
Basically you're asking for a 1:1 trade, right?

It cost money to wire into an exchange and also risk having the wire flagged by a bank, so you might have to offer higher than a 1:1 for a paypal transaction.
866  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core 0.9.2.1 has been released on: August 24, 2014, 08:29:54 PM
^ Thank you for the link. Just found this bit of info from it, which I just noticed in the OP as well  Undecided

Downgrading warnings

The ‘chainstate’ for this release is not always compatible with previous releases, so if you run 0.9 and then decide to switch back to a 0.8.x release you might get a blockchain validation error when starting the old release (due to ‘pruned outputs’ being omitted from the index of unspent transaction outputs).

Running the old release with the -reindex option will rebuild the chainstate data structures and correct the problem.

Also, the first time you run a 0.8.x release on a 0.9 wallet it will rescan the blockchain for missing spent coins, which will take a long time (tens of minutes on a typical machine).
867  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core 0.9.2.1 has been released on: August 24, 2014, 07:33:27 PM
I've used this new 0.9.2.1 version for almost 2 months now. I accidentally opened up 0.8.6, and now when I open up the 0.9.2.1, all the blocks have to be reindexed which will take hours. I can't use Amory either, until all the blocks are reindexed  Angry

Why are the two core versions not compatible with the same database?
868  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Expedia Accepting Bitcoins on: August 24, 2014, 11:05:07 AM
Actually bought tickets two weeks back from Expedia. Won't be wasting BTCs for this, though it does sound cool Smiley

A bit of an old post, but how is this a waste? You're getting something for your btc. A waste would be deleting your wallet and getting nothing in return. But as mentioned before, you currently can't buy tickets with btc anyways. I'm sure this will change in the future if the hotel thing proves to be successful.
869  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BitBrokers ATM tested out on: August 24, 2014, 09:52:22 AM
Selling was extremely simple and fast, but too fast. You click pay, and it prints out a voucher... I could easily double spend that after I get my cash

There's no such thing as too fast. Imagine if you wanted some quick cash, but have to stand there an average of 10 minutes before being able use your cash at a hotdog stand across the street. And I don't think it's THAT easy to force a double spend, otherwise it would be widespread by now. Nearly every restaurant that accepts btc don't wait for confirmations before giving you your food (or letting you leave). The same thing applies here, and IMO that's rightfully so.
870  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: haploid23 SCAMMED MY BITCOINS !!!!!!! on: August 24, 2014, 09:29:53 AM
If you're wondering why I have 3 posts in a row, talking to myself, it's because the guy actually just deleted all his posts in between, then edited out the whole first post after being discovered.

Hey changed the OP, what was he selling?

The title is still in some of the middle posts before he changed it. But here is a summary: OP tried to sell multiple Amazon gift cards, expert4knowledge and I questioned their legitimacy, he said they're purchased on Gyfts, I requested screenshots, he sent me fake ones then asked for btc, I requested another easy proof that can't be faked, he couldn't provide, finally ran off after I made it public, and here we are.

edit: this thread had just been moved from digital goods to Scam Accusations.
871  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SELLING AMAZON GIFT CARDS FOR BTC on: August 24, 2014, 09:04:46 AM
Just spoke with OP in PM. He sent me dodgy screenshots and tried to get me to send btc first, so I asked for code verification a different method to catch him off guard. As expected, he can't provide it.

Codes are not legit and will eventually lose balance Smiley
872  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: More Proof of Capacity coins coming (Hard Drive Mining) on: August 24, 2014, 08:35:35 AM
Why is this in the bitcoin mining section? Don't confuse bitcoin with another shitcoin.

I'd like to get in on the next POC coin early.
So put in the time to look it up yourself?
873  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: $70 of PayPal for BTC on: August 24, 2014, 07:36:39 AM
Must have good rep and site history

Oh the irony.
874  Other / Meta / Re: Positive (Green) Feedback on: August 24, 2014, 07:09:56 AM
Trust makes no difference, I could make 50 accounts and give myself trust, trust means nothing at all.

50 accounts with zero posts, all giving trust to the same guy. Yeah, no one will notice  Roll Eyes
875  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SELLING AMAZON GIFT CARDS FOR BTC on: August 24, 2014, 06:42:09 AM
I never directly said they were hacked. There are several fraudulent ways to get a GC.

PM me proof they were bought from Gyft, and also the rate you're selling them at. I'll buy it if everything checks out fine.
876  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Need A Paypal Partner must have 3K in Paypal Bitcoin project on: August 24, 2014, 06:27:33 AM
PM me your skype and we can talk this over. I have 3 different types of paypal accounts for different purposes, all verified. Hopefully it can mutually benefit both of us.
877  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for a micro loan on: August 24, 2014, 06:21:53 AM
Oh shiz, did Vod really just give out a micro loan instead of police this section? And no collateral??
878  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SELLING AMAZON GIFT CARDS FOR BTC on: August 24, 2014, 06:15:40 AM
And I'm sure your words are backed up by your reputation, right? If you can prove to me they're legit, I'll buy them all, depending on rate.
879  Economy / Lending / Re: Offering BTC loans [no collateral] on: August 24, 2014, 01:37:58 AM
Amount of BTC: 0.10
Collateral: None
Reason: to buy some alt coin
Denied. You already got a loan from another thread.

Asking: BTC0.5
Denied. Amount too large for your account, and you don't have a single trust.
880  Economy / Lending / Re: Need .505 BTC Within 15 Minutes on: August 24, 2014, 01:28:59 AM
Wardrick, has your withdraw gone through yet? If so, please use it for my repayment. If not, please use the loan that Somekindabitcoin sent you to pay me back. You got two identical loans, and I'm just not a fan of stacking such large amounts. I'd like to request mine back, and you can keep that 0.01 interest if you're using Somekindabitcoin's for repayment.
