901  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: June 10, 2021, 10:55:46 AM
First let BCCI complete 2021 IPL then we can talk about the auction.

Rashid Khan is a good player and he has proven that he is good for T20 format. At present he is part of the Hyderabad team in IPL, we need to wait and watch whether his salary gets increased in the next season.

I am not much concerned about the remainder of the series - mainly for two reasons. First of all, the tournament is taking place in the UAE. The quarantine requirements are very strict there and therefore the players would think twice before breaking them. Also, a majority of UAE's population has been vaccinated. And secondly, from what I have heard the BCCI wants to make sure that the players receive two doses of the vaccine before the tournament starts. This should eradicate any small risk, which could have been present.
902  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I Don't Want To Hear Anybody Crying When BTC Will Reach 1M Per Coin! on: June 09, 2021, 06:47:14 PM
I don't know whether such expectations are justified. As of now, the total global wealth stands at $400 trillion. Out of this figure, cryptocurrency accounts for 0.4%. Can we expect this figure to grow to 5%? If it happens, then Bitcoin will be having a higher market cap compared to gold. And it's market cap will be higher than the combined wealth of all the Latin American countries? It is theoretically possible to have such a high capitalization for Bitcoin. But I don't know whether it can be achieved in reality.
903  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are all altcoins dependent on Bitcoin? on: June 09, 2021, 06:25:40 PM
Yeah right, even the project tried to pushed for more but if Bitcoin continue to experienced downfall most of the time alts will follow and also experienced the declined,

Investors are working on every opportunities but if they've seen that the main asset are not performing very well they need to hold on and pause for a while.

Cardano is the best third generation altcoin, in terms of technology. And that justifies it's position as the 5th largest cryptocurrency and the market cap of >$50 billion. But in terms of acceptability, Cardano is lagging behind some of the smaller altcoins such as Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash. Despite the advanced features, the developers haven't succeeded in making this coin very user friendly. They need to learn from coins such as Litecoin, which are really user friendly. We need to remember that less tech savvy users also need to use cryptocurrency.

I was happy to see James Faulkner playing for Lahore Qalandars. When he made his test debut in 2013 against England, he was regarded as one of the most exciting young prospects in Australia. He picked 6 wickets in that match, but was never considered for the test team after that. Now it may be too late for him to make an international comeback, but his performance today made me cheerful.

BTW, Islamabad United seems to be in deep trouble. I would be surprised if they are able to make a three digit total.
905  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ICP (Internet Computer) on: June 09, 2021, 04:31:09 PM
Price is already going down steadily because a lot of people got the airdrop (including me, but i only got the small amount of 28 ICP and not 119 like others, multi accounts not even counted in) and a lot of them sold off their airdrop which of course creates a heavy pressure on the price. I personally haven't sold any ICP yet and i am not planning to do so because i hope and think that the price will stabilize and will start to grow again once the airdrop sell off is finished. If we should go into a real bear market and we will see a price of <40$ per ICP then i will probably buy a few more ICP myself.

Looking at the order books, the feeling I get is that ICP is still overpriced. The market cap went down by almost 75% in a week or so, and I won't be surprised if it goes down by another 50%. And I don't think that users selling their airdropped tokens is the sole reason behind the drop. The market cap (even at current levels) looks too high for a project that has limited acceptability. And if I am not wrong, the airdrop started in 2018. There is no reason to assume that all the users who have waited for so long will dump their tokens all of a sudden.
906  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: June 09, 2021, 04:18:29 PM
Trent Boult is a natural selection in the team and Mitchell Santner would have been replaced even if he was not injured as he did not have any role in the first Test match but the inclusion of Trent Boult is a major boost for the team and they will trouble the England players.

The question is whether they want to go with an all pace attack. Now they don't even have a part time spinner (as Williamson is injured). And let's not forget that Dom Bess has been called up to the England squad. There is a good chance that the pitch for the second test may be more conductive to spin bowling. So they need to think twice before going out there with an all pace attack. I would rather go for at least one spinner (even if that means dropping someone like Colin de Grandhomme).
907  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is Bitcoin? Will Bitcoin be traded in all countries in 2025? on: June 09, 2021, 02:05:12 PM
Bitcoin is already traded p2p in every country of the world despite all the bans and regulations governments and dictators have, but my prediction is that most country will adopt Bitcoin the same way like they adopted gold.
By 2025 Bitcoin will probably be used as backup for main currencies and it would be much easier and faster to trade with Bitcoin than it is with gold.
People need to realize that nobody can stop them if they want to separate money from state and use Bitcoin for that.

^^^ This.

The OP could have rephrased his question to something like this - Will Bitcoin be traded (legally) in all countries by 2025? I am skeptical about it. There are large number of countries, where Bitcoin users face harassment. India, China and Nigeria are a few well known examples. I would say that a more realistic target would be to have Bitcoin legal in a majority of the countries by 2025. There are a total of 193 member states of the United Nations (UN). I would be happy if 97+ of these countries make Bitcoin legal in their jurisdictions.
908  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1 Year From Now: 5-10 Countries Accepting BTC As A Legal Tender on: June 09, 2021, 01:53:24 PM
It's possible. But do not make such predictions.

What is wrong with such a prediction? Before the announcement came from president Nayib Bukele, no one really thought that any country (apart from micronations such as Liberland) would make Bitcoin as the legal tender. In all probability, if you had talked about the possibility of such a scenario to any of your friends, they would have mocked you. Now one thing is sure. El Salvador is not going to be the only country to take this step. Once the other countries take note of the investment flowing in to El Salvador, they also will rethink about the status of Bitcoin.
909  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-06-05] El Salvador to make Bitcoin Legal Tender on: June 09, 2021, 12:35:27 PM
The significance of such an event should not be overestimated. Venezuelan President Maduro has also tried to boost his country's economy by using bitcoin as a means of payment. They even began to pay pensions to old women in bitcoins. We do not see any particular result yet. Inflation continues to break records there.
First of all, El Salvador needs to think about introducing a national currency in order to raise the economy. Bitcoin can only help if it walks simultaneously with the national currency, which will support all economic calculations.
In any case, this will be another experience of introducing cryptocurrency into government.

It is a very significant occurrence and no one is overestimating its significance. For cryptocurrency users, it is like a ground breaking event. For the first time, Bitcoin has gained a status that is equal to the fiat currency. To be honest, I was not expecting Bitcoin to become legal tender anywhere in the next 5 years. This was like a bolt from the blue. Getting the opening is always difficult. But since we have one now, I expect the next phase to be relatively easy. A number of countries are likely to follow El Salvador in making Bitcoin the legal tender.
910  Economy / Economics / Re: Economy after COVID-19 on: June 09, 2021, 12:22:17 PM
clear, we paid for all this with so many victims and this is very sad

but on the other hand we have made monstrous strides
- vaccines created in record time
- super technological vaccines rna
- smart working
- cryptocurrencies

All these are valid points. The situation could have been much worse (similar to the 1918-20 Spanish flu pandemic, which killed tens of millions of people). I am not discounting the deaths from COVID so far (which as per official numbers are close to 4 million). But without the vaccine and advanced medical treatment, it could have been easily 40 million. On top of that, there have been several positives. People like me are working from home, and thereby saving a lot of expenses on commute and transit. Then there has been a rapid growth in the digital payments market.
911  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: El Salvador has become the first country to make #Bitcoin legal tender! 🇸🇻 on: June 09, 2021, 12:06:56 PM
Just a minor addition to the fact that the bill has been passed and approved: It will come into effect in 90 days time, which is an ambitious timeframe for such a large change. Being so, article 12 of the bitcoin law states that those business that cannot adapt their technological infrastructure to accepting bitcoin, will not be obliged to accept bitcoin. The state, nevertheless, will promote the necessary mechanisms to allow the population to access bitcoin TXs.

Article 12 is therefore an exit side door to escape from being forced to accept bitcoin in the given 90 day timeframe, but if all goes well, it should only be a temporary escape whilst businesses adapt.

This is a real first case scenario for an all-out countrywide bitcoin adaption, and all eyes will be on the playing ground.

https://www.information-age.com/el-salvador-becomes-first-country-to-adopt-bitcoin-as-legal-tender-123495550/

Wow!!! That was quick.

When the news about announcement from the president came, I was thinking that it will be some empty rhetoric and it may never be implemented. But I was proven wrong. They have moved very fast on this. And I guess this is the reason why Bitcoin prices have shot up by 15% during the last 24 hours. I would compare this news to the one we had last year, when PayPal became the first major payment processor to integrate Bitcoin to its platform. And I hope many more countries will follow the example set by El Salvador.
912  Economy / Economics / Re: How to protect from inflation? on: June 09, 2021, 11:51:28 AM
There is no relation between inflation and the price of bitcoin, inflation is happening in the economy and this is not a bad thing, inflation happens when your countries economy is going strong and that makes inflation, while the price of bitcoin is naturally changing, the pumps and dumps happen because of the buyers and sellers, there is no centralized that can be affected decentralized or bitcoin.

Inflation is bad for those who have their savings in fiat denominated assets. In case most of your assets are in the form of assets that are protected against inflation, then you don't need to worry. One issue that I have faced is while calculating the capital gains tax, most of the governments don't consider the loss from inflation. For example, I purchased a stock 10 years ago at $100. Now I am selling after 10 years , for $250. As per the calculation for tax, my net gain is $150 and I need to pay the capital gains tax on this amount. But if the inflation rate is high, then the net gain may be as little as $40 or $50 and the applicable tax maybe higher than this amount.
913  Economy / Economics / Re: No new millionaires come from stock market in 2020/2021 on: June 09, 2021, 11:40:40 AM
That's an impossible thing to claim, a lot of money is circulating in the stock market and there is no such thing as no new millionaires in there because they produce them everyday, we just don't know it yet. Also OP, if you are trying to make crypto market look good by saying there's no new millionaire in stock market, I think that you have failed miserably.

Well.. there was this statistic that I read in one of the mainstream media portals. Stock market capitalization increased by $15 trillion in the last 12 months. Stocks listed in the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) alone increased by $9 trillion in valuation. And then we have a few idiots who claim that no new millionaires have come from the stick market. How many billionaires and millionaires would have come from this $15 trillion? For heaven's sake this amount represents 5% of the global wealth. It is simply huge.
914  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has Bitcoin been hacked?? Are your BTC safe??? on: June 08, 2021, 05:51:04 PM
Everything you need to know: https://twitter.com/adam3us/status/1402179970277982210

I must admit, it's a bit worrying to see so many people talking about this subject. It just shows how most of the community is just here for the money and has no clue about how bitcoin actually works.

I agree with your post. Even the title is misleading. Bitcoin can't be hacked for heaven's sake. It is your wallet that is susceptible to hack. And if you take the most basic security precautions, then I believe that 99% of the hacking attempts can be prevented and your coins will be safe and secure. And regarding the retrieval of coins by the FBI, I don't think that they have hacked in to any of the wallets. According to Adam Back, the coins were recovered after FBI took over the cloud server.
915  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elon musk is for crypto or just for attention to boost Tesla, SpaceX? on: June 08, 2021, 05:38:16 PM
Did anyone mention his late agenda regarding "green" mining etc in the US? Given that this guy is one of the largest manufacturers in solar power equipment I find it hard to believe he won't try to push his "green" stuff to miners, while lobbying legislation supporting it.

After all, he is a businessman and one of the richest individuals in the planet. Don't expect these people to do something just because they believe that it will benefit the humanity. There will be a selfish motive behind each of his moves. Now I can't confirm Elon's connection to solar panel manufacturing, because this is the first time that I am hearing about it. But I won't be surprised if it's turns out to be true. Elon Musk is one of the main beneficiaries of this climate change debate. If the concern about climate change is not there, then no one would actually purchase his overpriced EVs.
916  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ FIFA World Cup 2022: Qualifying Games For Qatar on: June 08, 2021, 05:26:08 PM
A team like Indonesia will not be able to qualify for the World Cup even if it gets a chance to participate in the World Cup. I watched a few matches of the Indonesian national team. Very bad performance. Passing and receiving, nothing can do perfectly. They are not a team to participate in the World Cup. They need to improve themselves and practice more.

What do you really expect from a team that is currently having a global FIFA ranking of 160? I don't think that any team with such low ranking has ever participated in the World Cup (i.e the main tournament and not the qualifiers). If I am not wrong, the lowest ranking team ever to participate in the world cup was North Korea, when they took part in FIFA World Cup 2010. Back then, their rank was 105. Apart from DPRK, I don't think that any other team with a global ranking of >100 has ever participated in the world cup.

Looks like the situation in the England camp is pretty bad currently thanks to the Ollie Robinson suspension which stunned many including me. This is a big blow since he performed well with both bat and ball against NZ.

Seems that another English cricketer is under investigation for his tweets though his name hasn't been disclosed yet. Karma is kicking them for their stupidity.

Disappointed with the over-reaction from ECB. They want to show that they are politically correct and gave a disproportionate punishment to inexperienced Ollie Robinson for tweets made more than a decade ago (when he was a minor). The tweets in question were posted in 2012, when he was 17 years old). I would say that this is the height of stupidity. What next? Are they going to ban some other player, claiming that when he was an infant he showed dislike towards darker shades? And then we have clowns like Michael Carberry applauding the move by ECB.
918  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-06-06] Senators Urge Crackdown On Crypto As Ransom Payment After Gas Pipe, on: June 08, 2021, 05:02:23 PM
Ransomware is something that affects people who do not have the basics of computer literacy anyway - which means that firstly they are not aware of what the Internet is, and secondly what backup is. It is easiest to blame cryptocurrencies for everything, but it is not the tool that is to blame, but the people who use it.

I would definitely agree with this. As someone who is working in the IT sector, we are made to undergo training on how to avoid phishing mails and trojans. And I believe that anyone with basic computer knowledge will be able to avoid such attempts. So first they need to analyze how the computers got infected with ransomware in the first place. How can they be sure that this was not an insider job? And perhaps the talks about targeting crypto may be a diversionary tactic to shift attention from these flaws.
919  Economy / Economics / Re: How to protect from inflation? on: June 08, 2021, 04:38:52 PM
Over the years, accumulating bitcoin at all price levels was the best thing I did to tackle inflation.
Now, the MSM are starting their narrative around inflation and trust me we need to expect troubles around the value of fiat money.
I believe there's gonna be a lot of turbulence at the end of the summer. Fasten your seat belt, and act accordingly: protect your wealth.

It is going to get worse. Back in 2020, the governments were thinking that the pandemic will be contained within a few months. So they took out these big spending plans and stimulus measures. The plan was to increase the revenue generation in 2021 and make up for what is lost in 2020. Unfortunately, now it looks as if 2021 will be even worse when compared to 2020. So obviously this means more government spending in the end, and more inflation for many more years to come.
920  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: June 08, 2021, 04:26:48 PM
First of all, I dont really trust with the vaccine because according to me this is the fastest vaccine that have been made. But, I also don't want to share the negativity that makes other people afraid of vaccines.  I did see a lot of chain news in whatsapp groups and others about fake vaccines, the impact of death due to vaccines and even this covid is engineered.  I'm on the neutral side and don't want to be easily provoked by the ambiguity of things. Because if we think too much about everything, our lives are full of vigilance and become slow in making decisions.

I agree with you when you claim that this is the fastest vaccine ever made. But that doesn't necessarily mean that the quality checks and the clinical trials were skipped. All the vaccines have either completed their phase III trials, or they are in the process of wrapping them up. All of them have completed the Phase I/II trials many months ago. Now this is important because if a vaccine has passed the Phase I/II trial, it means that that particular vaccine is safe for administration on human body.
