981  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you believe we need more ways of advertising Bitcoin currency? on: October 15, 2015, 03:03:38 AM
--snip--
Everyone wants Bitcoin to do something it simply can't accomplish in a few years. Bitcoin will eventually be version 1.0 and ready to take on the world but it might take two generations to do it.

Absolutely, and the reason for that is, whether we like to admit it or not, we are still under the dominance of the baby boomer generation (throwing in some of the 60's kids) ... They are not the type of people that are up for a "change" just because it's so late in their life, and are riding out their end days.  When you are at that point, you don't want to see an exciting new idea that can revolutionize everything we do on a day to day basis.  I think it makes them feel like they are going to miss out on something when they're gone.

I mean, I feel like the majority of bitcoin users are around the ages of 16-30 and are just now climbing up corporate ladders to figuratively take the torch from the previous generation to start running things and to make a change in the way we see fit.  Maybe this will be one of the things we will leave our future generations to help develop, along with selfie sticks, facebook, meme's, and instagram accounts Roll Eyes

The picture of what you are going for looks insanely awesome... but what would be the dimensions of something like this, and what you are trying to create?  Would it be the size to fit into a safety deposit box, or the size of a safe?
983  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will the Banking Industry kill Bitcoin and keep the Blockchain? on: October 15, 2015, 02:39:59 AM
Every financial institution and every Bank seem to have their eyes set on the bitcoin and bitcoin these days... But being Bitcoin as a currency the main competitor to banks and the traditional financial system, won't it be possible to see Banks trying to stifle bitcoin while investing in the Blockchain?

Remember the early Internet? Where every company wanted to make their own localized version of it?

Remember how that ended?

Same with Bitcoin, Bitcoin is much better when it's global and all inclusive. Banks that make their own block chain will eventually be almost forced to just join the global block chain, because there is little to gain from having your own bubble.

Exactly, and just think about the fact that even if a bank issues their own local version of it, they would still mainly make fiat transactions riding on the back of the block chain; and not use (or I would think they wouldn't) the banks "coin" to be a currency in it's self since it gets money from the feds.  Plus, you have to deal with the fact that bitcoins have WAY more purchasing power than fiat.
984  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Bitcoin better that fiat? on: October 15, 2015, 02:30:13 AM
IMO, in fiat we have to pay some tax when we have/our income is more than the limit. But we don't need to pay even a single sat to hold lot of bitcoins. Because, bitcoins were anonymous and fiats were watched by banks(?)

Well, I can totally see that if bitcoin were to become a mainstay in digital currencies and were used by the masses (and by "used" I mean some businesses will start paying out their employees in bitcoin), then there would have to be a tax regulation on bitcoin, because the government doesn't want major businesses to be issuing out payments without giving them some.  This wouldn't have anything to do with the banks, because they wouldn't be issuing out bitcoins themselves if they remain dealing fiat currencies.
985  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or gold? on: October 15, 2015, 01:59:07 AM
Gold in my opinion is and will always win over the rest as a commodity. Yes even bitcoin because of it's stability.

I mean, yeah it's great that gold has a very stable price point right now; but you have to think about the implications of what bitcoin is doing and also the fact that bitcoin is still in its very early stages.  Bitcoin is without a doubt the first "digital gold" ever created.  It's finite, and can be sent any where in the world.  Sure bitcoins prices are very very volatile right now, but how would you know what the market price of gold was after, lets say the first 8 years it was discovered.  How much purchasing power did it really have?  How many goats, chicken, cows did it buy per ounce?  The question is meant to be rhetorical, because gold has been around for ever, so there's no telling what the "market price" of gold was when it was first being traded and used as a form of currency.

Sure bitcoin will see huge dips and rises in prices, but we're still around 8 years after "discovering" this new technological advancement.  But does that really mean we should just drop it and keep transacting a finite currency over the internet?  I personally don't think so.
986  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Getting a living from Gmabling alone is possible? on: October 15, 2015, 01:49:43 AM
Bet all your money on 10% win chance, it's proven to win you 10x your money around 10% of the time.

Well, if you want to be technical.. it would be ~ 9% of the time with the usual house edge a gambling site has now and days.
987  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcoin Exchange Gemini Approved for Launch in New York on: October 15, 2015, 01:48:13 AM
BTC being regulated (that means I have to provide my documents to "someone" in order to get verified), why would I use BTC while I already have a bank account, credit cards, debit cards and other traditional financial instruments?

I can do whatever I want by using a credit/debit card already and instantly with zero fees on my side. Smiley

It will the best thing you will (can) do. Do not use it and use all the others tool you mention in your post. Leave your bitcoin in your wallet. Theoretically the price of bitcoin can go very high. Only if regulated (otherwise with to much probability will be banned) and accepted legally as a normal currency in your country. That day you remember that you have bitcoin and again don't use those. Only do a change in your desired fiat money. You will have, using this way of action, much more profits than the actual use of it.

This is a dream that it is impossible in this world. The banks will never allow what you say here. Smiley
The people follows the banks and not an utopia.

The banks want their own currency(they want control) not Bitcoin. The banks may only use some of the tech of BTC and nothing more. The banks already have the debit cards and also the mobile payments which will be a BOOM soon. They don't need any BTC with its +15 min processing transaction and with +80% black market.

You have to understand that BTC is a niche market and this is how it will remain. BTC regulated = Paypal or any other similar payment processor. Why would the people using it? Yes, it's ok for speculation for now but don't have dreams regarding to Bitcoin.

When MTGox went down, the price drooped with 50% in 48 hours; same with Silk Road....BTC has around of 3 mil users and much less are owning funds in BTC. BTC has a BIG buzz in media and the results are modest.  What are we talking about? Smiley

You maybe right about saying banks don't want to have to deal with bitcoins and only take bitcoin's blockchain technology and use it... but you still have to regard the fact that bitcoins still hold more purchasing power than any fiat in the world, by a long shot.

So even if they were to create there own "crypto" using a blockchain technology.. they are still going to be dealing in fiat.  So I guess my argument is, if banks do use the blockchain and in a way promote it, it might turn more people on to figuring out what this whole block chain thing is about.  Then people maybe start realizing that bitcoins just hold a value to its name that no other currency holds.

Can a full time gambler lead a life just from the earning from gambling. I think it's possible when we get some experience over time. But some of friends claim they are all successful from day one itself.
It would be nice if you share your experience whether a modern days internet gambling will provide enough and regular money for getting a living out of it.

I have never knew of anyone who was successful from gambling online... except for this one guy...

My brother had a roommate in college who was SUPER into gambling on poker websites, mainly texas hold'em. This was still at the time when online gambling was still legal in the US, maybe around like 2006 or so?  Definitely not a part of the bitcoin gambling scene, but I'll tell his story any ways as it might interest some of y'all.

This kid just had a knack for gambling.  Sometimes when I would visit my brother at his college, we would play texas hold'em... we never stood a chance.  I guess from playing online, he came across as having this blank look like he was looking at a computer screen when playing, seldemly drinking at all when playing, he was very serious.

Then he started to get more into gambling.  It was a serious addiction, but it was an addiction that he profited off of, so I guess that's a good thing?  He would get into some pretty heavy buy ins, and would stay in his room for hours at a time.  Then, when/if he got in the "final table" he would quickly run to the library and go on the basement level to isolate him self from everything... no cell phone service, just wifi.  He would just literally disappear and stay there all night long until morning and maybe even in the afternoon if the game was really long.  There was times when my brother said he would come back with bags under his eyes and just a grin on his face as he sat down his lap top and goes... "I won 100K..."  Of course my brother and all his friends where estatic for him and would through these parties for him, where the guy would fund all the alcohol they wanted.

After he graduated (Accounting) he started flying out to Vegas and playing in tournaments.  He would win some pretty nice sized pots there as well, and started making a name for him self.  Major poker players would "sponsor" him and funded his entry fees to play in these tournaments, and he would just have to pay back a portion of the profits to the lender.

Anyways, he never has worked a day in his life... still flies out to Vegas.  Does pretty well in WSP tournaments (though hasn't made the final table there yet). Oh... I forgot to mention that he has won a couple of $1K-$20K pools on FanDuel before and thinks nothing of it.

But he was one of the coolest, nerdiest, most genuine guys I got to know from my brothers friend group.  Ended up buying a 50 inch plasma screen from him for $50 dollars, simply because he didn't want it any more... lol Roll Eyes

yup, the case is very rare but it is indeed true. there is a lot of these cases in texas poker and the amount you can win from the major tournament is really really huge. he really put in a lot of effort into this and that is why he successed. so overall, u can see that in order to win big, you still have to put in a lot of committment and effort.

Absolutely.. My brother said there would be these periods in time where he wouldn't want to socialize at all by going out with them and doing some occasional partying.  He would just be that focused into playing poker.

Now is that a healthy way to make a living? Hell no. But does he enjoy what he's doing, and not having to slave away hours for someone above him through work? Well.. maybe, considering he does take some sponsorships to play tournaments and has to pay a percentage of his winnings to investors, but still... Makes my day job look like shit considering the hours I work and at what wage rate.
989  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there a way to earn at least $1 in BTC per hour? on: October 15, 2015, 01:37:32 AM
There are endless ways to make $1 in BTC per hour, but all of them involve a certain risk, the only thing that involves 0 risks is faucets and signature campaigns, but it involves dedicating a lot more time than anything risk involved, so choose your poison.

I think you really nailed the nail on the head with this one...

In short there are really only two ways; 1) Risky trades/investments 2) Dedication of time, money, and effort.  This could be said about anything though, but at your rate of $1 per hour, idk if that would be worth it IMO.  Entreprenuralship through the forum by creating a new business or offering a service falls under the "dedication" category as well.  But I mean, really, that's just a fact of life and capitalism at it's finest.  Can't earn anything by simply doing "nothing".
990  Economy / Speculation / Re: yay btc goes ~$250 ! on: October 15, 2015, 01:33:39 AM
According to the Bitcoin predictor the price will be around $275 by the end of this month.

What "Bitcoin predictor" are you talking about?  Is there a site that acts like a ticker, but gives predictions on price? If so, that's pretty neat and have never heard of it before.
991  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Secure BTC Market Coming Very Soon on: October 15, 2015, 01:31:20 AM
Secure btc market sound very interesting to me, is it going to be like silk road market that was shot down?

This isn't anything at all like silk road... silk road was to buy and sell drugs through a secure network on tor.

But, I'm not quite sure about what you mean that you can make "private" transactions. Do you mean "private" in where you talk to the buyer/seller through a private encrypted messaging system?  Because I don't think it would be possible to make any transactions with BTC to be "private".  Everything is listed directly on the blockchain and can be easily traced.
992  Other / Archival / Re: A currency exchange platform! on: October 15, 2015, 01:25:13 AM
Cool site idea, but why exactly are you only incorporating paypal and bitcoin?  I feel that you are limiting the site by a good margin.  Maybe if you allow skrill and other payment methods things would be better?  Also, there would definitely need to be an escrow or a couple of them along for the rides so that they can be in the chat and communicate with buyers and sellers to make everything legit.

994  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price going up for no apparent reason? on: October 14, 2015, 11:46:45 PM
Not sure if a new thread was required for this 'price movement'. There's not much to discuss really is there, the price has gone up 5 USD. We used to have massive price swings daily. A 5 USD move isn't really anything to get excited about.

I'd be moderately excited if we moved into the 300's, at the moment I'm just relaxed, HODLING & looking on.

Yeah, it seems as if people have forgotten the better times around the $500, $750, $1K mark... I just think people needed some kind of reinforcement boost, so it's no surprise people are going bananas over a $5-$10 jump.
995  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 14, 2015, 11:35:33 PM
I've met Aubrey several times actually. Cool dude! I've also been in attendance at the first Singularity Summit in SF back in 2006. It seems to me we are now in the first part of the "knee of the curve" of Kurzweil's exponential (law of accelerating returns). The steep part of the knee of the curve should come once some of these experiments with deep learning and machine learning advance further. These advancements in AI is what will fuel the breakthroughs in aging and nanotechnology in the the mid to late 2020's. We may get to super intelligent AI's by the mid 2030s.

By 2020 I'm thinking 1 XMR to be worth 0.2 BTC

I wonder how these super-intelligent AIs in 2035 will value XMR vs BTC.

lol... It's funny to me when people speculate what it will be like when a certain year comes around, but it's really cool to ponder. I remember back in the early 90's I was thinking that it was going to be definitely some sort of "Jetson's" reality when the 2000's came.  Flying cars, Cities built on top of sky scrapping needle points (for some reason unknown), the whole works... then when the 2000's hit, it just became kind of a "disappointment" ... No doubt there will be better computer technology when that time comes around, but to say there will be "Terminator-like" AI's walking around and being citizens of the world is kind of far fetched and will probably never happen.  If there were to be AI's in the future, then it won't be something that would be allowed to walk around and become an artificial "citizen"...

But then again who knows... Huh "Meet George Jetson!"
996  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you believe we need more ways of advertising Bitcoin currency? on: October 14, 2015, 11:27:52 PM
BankAmericard, Diners Club and American Express all had public perception issues when they first came out. If we wait the same amount of time it took them to really get established worldwide Bitcoin will overcome all the negativity. That's about 60 years by the way.

http://wephoneswipe.com/get/files/image/galleries/7XCcOXT9.jpg?500x328

That's actually a really nice way to put things, I never really thought of it like that.  I mean for American Express though, I've never really heard of "Dinner's Club" before... but still a nice reference to what bitcoin is going through now and days.  If you think about it, American Express used to have TONS of commercials still back in the 90's, but when it grew up and matured more, there was no need... It just already made its reputation of being a good credit card to use for easier transactions.
997  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying Bitcoin was a worst decision of my life on: October 14, 2015, 11:23:16 PM
I decided what I was comfortable with and went in with that amount. My sympathy for anyone who didn't is limited. No one's got a clue where this is headed and if you listen to anyone who thinks they do then you both need a slap

Exactly, go with your gut feeling and if you think it's going to rise up in value over the short period of time (if you want to marginal trade on bitcoin), awesome... but if you don't think so, don't buy it... it's as simple as that.  As for me, I tend to make that decision every day for my self.  I see what new innovations are being made that might help out bitcoin in the long run and I go for a bigger purchase to hold; no matter if it starts to dip in price.  But for me thinking that a couple of coins might make it big time in the future, I purchase a mixture of them when I have extra funds.  But for now, I just sit back relax.. and when I have time to post on the forum, make some extra funds to hold on to with the sig campaign.
