2501  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The anonymity war is over. No one won. It is now the asset arms race. on: August 24, 2014, 02:43:06 PM
Until all this tech is closed source, and until people stop tossing money at it the coin du jour, the onslaught will continue.

Maybe it's not about the coins at all. Maybe it's all about the tech, and the learning that is going on.  The fact that Satoshi's coin is being cloned isn't what is interesting to me any more. What's interesting now is that Satoshi is cloning himself. The number of people who are innovating in this space is growing exponentially and I don't think we have good idea yet exactly what this means 1, 5, 10 years from now.

Soon Wall Street will try to pick a winner to serve their own purposes, and banks will buy in. Anonymity will never be part of the Wall Street anointed coin.

Truly, I don't see an end to this. I see it ramping.
2502  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Next Crypto Wave. on: August 24, 2014, 02:27:43 PM
Your list left off "Commodity coins," like Uro, and "Cause Coins" like CleanWater.

Maybe what you identify as "Exchange coins" is the trend toward building apps around a coin. The utility of an app gives a an immediate perceived value and an economy of users, at least for a few minutes.

I don't care what is done around a cryptocurrency, I don't want I don't want any part of it if it isn't open source.

Guess who is setting up an exchange?
And guess which coin will be there?

Hi Mark. What do you think of the work that has been done at http://www.cryptotc.us/ ?  How close does this match your vision of trust-based p2p crypto exchange?

POS is working nice  Tongue

It sure is working well. Snowcoin just keeps going. The network keeps growing. A month ago I could hardly find one connection, now there's always 5 or 6.

It's trading at http://www.cryptotc.us/market#SNC

Hi sirsmokesalot,

Yes, I love a good blockchain mystery. It all seems to fit together pretty well.

Cryptsy used to store Uno in individual wallets, so when you did a withdrawal you would sometimes get multiple inputs from many small wallets.
Now they have changed things by putting most of their Uno holdings into a huge cold storage wallet, and having smaller hot wallet that that moves every transaction. When you withdraw, now the only input is from that hot wallet (which changes its address with every withdrawal).

I'm not 100% comfortable with having nearly 30% of uno stashed in one big wallet. We saw how that went down at Coinex. Cryptsy is no Coinex, but now there's only one private key to be stolen or lost instead of many. Maybe this is crypto-security best practice now-- I don't know.

I updated my original post to include a new observation: no network fees are being paid for processing these large transactions which include moving the hotwallet each time. I don't know how that works, exactly. I think the size of the transaction is made up of many inputs; if you move  2k uno but it is comprised of 500 small transactions, the "cost" of moving that 2k uno is high, but the next time that 2k is moved the cost is less, since now it's just one 2k Uno input.  So maybe how this works is when cryptsy moves 2k uno there is no network fee because of this.  Maybe Blazr or someone more versed can shed light on how those network fees are determined.
2507  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Unobtanium Mac wallet. on: August 22, 2014, 07:54:52 PM
I'd still like to sort my Mac Unobtanium client out as all my other clients (6) I are fine on Mac. Maybe need to wait for a new version?

We'll build a new version for you with the testnet and alerts fixes we pushed to Weener's github. Seems he's lost interest in Un, but we're still in for client updates. Watch for an updated Mac-Qt shortly.

Thanks for pushing it forward. It's been a long time coming. BW mentioned confirmed he is working with a Blocktech programmer who is building Mac wallets for all blocktech.com supported coins including Uno.  They are going to be certified (is that the right term?) with Apple so that it's easier to install as a Mac app, but there has been a delay in finishing them.

Added Blazr's new Mac wallet to the OP. Here's the Virus Total report's clean bill of health:

It's been a sore spot for the community for a long time.  Much appreciated! Smiley
2508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / uRan = Cyptsy on: August 22, 2014, 02:36:57 AM
I've noticed that there has been a large amount of Uno moving through the blockchain, so I decided to test the idea that the uRAN wallet is Cryptsy's.
Remember a week ago or so they split off about 5k UNO from the main wallet into what was (for awhile) the #2 wallet in size.   And then a couple of days ago, the Uno from that #2 wallet began moving through the block chain.

I was messing around today with Cryptsy and here's a transaction where I withdrew 11.111111 Uno:

http://cryptexplorer.com/block/0000000000001601e68308ade07753101fbb22372f60781ec63ef2f349ca5035

You can follow the inputs and outputs quite easily on CryptExplorer.

What does this all mean?  It shows that every time someone does a withdrawal, Cryptsy will not send just the withdrawn amount. Instead, they create at least 2 transactions in each block: the first transaction moves their entire Hot wallet (less the withdrawn amount) to a new address, and the second transaction in the amount of the withdrawn Uno is sent to the person who initiated the withdrawal.

In the link above, you can watch this happen; I can confirm that the 11.11111 Uno in that transaction was my withdrawal from Cryptsy.

I don't know why Cryptsy wants to move the entire hot wallet in the blockchain for each transaction. I guess Big Vern has his reasons, and maybe the fees will help the miners [update: just noticed that there are never any fees paid to miner for processing these large transactions, even though a network fee is charged by Cryptsy to the person requesting the withdrawal].

You can watch their hot wallet move through the blockchain, getting smaller and smaller, and each time the remainder of the hotwalelt is moved to a fresh address.

Block         Uno
476557     2,059
476597     2,038
476602     2,003   and so on.

I assume that when this hot wallet is depleted, then Cryptsy will split off another chunk of the cold wallet and the process will continue.

Wanted to ask you guys about storage onto a usb stick. Do you just save the wallet.dat file on the usb?
Never done this before and thought I'd see what you guys have to say before messing with it. Too many beautiful UNO's

My local wallets for all coins are encrypted and stored in 3 places: usb stick, local drive, and a cloud drive.

Your observations are interesting. I hadn't really considered the timing for when this community came together. Maybe that's the difference in tone.
I think we also have more experienced group here who have ego's that are not so easily threatened that they feel they have to win every argument.

FK, what cloud service do you trust your UNO to?

I like MegaSync from mega.co.uk

Yeah, crazy, right? Either there are several metric tons of UNO stored there by us UNOers or Cryptsy is trying to corner the market? Wonlong abandoned his stash at Cryptsy? Sad
My hope is for a thousand people each holding an average of 50 Uno. Smiley
Unless you get Big Vern drunk, you'll never know.
2512  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNO] Unobtanium Info & Discussion - Update Now to 0.9.5 wallet on: August 20, 2014, 07:52:41 PM
My second uno withdrawal from cryptsy came through, woowoo! I have no reason to trust cryptsy, i have no reason to not trust them. Well, the lack of trust is weighted a bit more after having to wait a combined two weeks for two withdrawals, but they did eventually come through.

It looks like the number two wallet is an exchange. That number one wallet though, hmmmm, i just don't have any logical reason as to why it would be an exchange. Why would an exchange have 30% of the coins?

Based on what I've just witnessed, I'm going to side with the people who think that uRAN is Cryptsy cold storage.

Yesterday's #2 wallet seems to have been distributed to the people who are reporting their Cryptsy withdrawal orders being fulfilled.
We know that the #2 wallet from yesterday came directly from the present #1 wallet (uRAN).

The present #2 wallet is old udYSEGNw, which hasn't moved in 126 days.
2513  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Wallet Watching on: August 20, 2014, 12:52:12 PM
I thought it was notable that nearly 9k Uno moved last night in block 475615.

Nearly 5k Un from the previous #2 wallet on the Rich List, uWAMa9Xq,  (Recall the Uno in uWAMa9Xq began in the #1 URan wallet a couple of weeks ago and was sent to uVNVNZCFyar, before arriving in uWAMa9Xq) was shuffled through several new wallets in a short time frame last night (Aug 20, 2014).  Most of the uWAMa Uno is now in uWDe2zcQ...

The same block, 475615, moved 4k Un from uTb4Cif3.

Are you guys seeing your Cryptsy withdrawals arrive today? If so, perhaps this is Cryptsy fulfilling your withdrawal requests.

you can get pokerchips with the Uno-logo on them there. Thought i post it here.

Those are cool!  I'm adding them to the OP.

Let me know if you find any other cool products like this.

These Uno prices are just too tempting, and bitcoin is just to cheap. I can't pass up this opportunity to lower my overall cpu (cost per Un) with some new money.

I moved btc to 3 exchanges today. Bittrex was by far the fastest to confirm my btc for trading; another feather in their cap.
The order book is looking better and better at Bittrex, with the buy depth increasing.  There is still very little Un to buy at Bitrex; just 2.5 btc of buys will move it to .01. I probably won't be drawing any big spikes, but I will be glad to catch drops for those who want out.

I am increasingly concerned with Cryptsy. I really hope they resolve their issues soon. I have traded their for a long time and have always liked Cryptsy.  This pattern of slow withdrawals, poor service, does not bode well historically for crypto exchanges. I'll gladly give them a second chance when they can resolve and credibly explain these problems.

I'm a little concerned at the low volume at MintPal. We don't want to lose that market. Sure, we could go in-house for trading, but major exchanges like MintPal give us good visibility, credibility, reliable addnodes, and provide price services to coinmarketcap, Cryptonator, unobtanium.uno and many other sites through their API, which further enhances Uno's visibility. I fully understand the risks of storing on exchanges, and I don't think all your Un should be on exchanges, but there's also a downside to having very little available. Where is the balance?  Let's not be so stingy with our Uno that our market becomes uninteresting to the exchanges.  It's difficult to get listed, but easy to get delisted.

Hi everybody,

Just wanted to put (another?) call out for someone who would want to be a webmaster for our Blue Crypto Award.

It would be a simple list of our nominees with summary and UNO voting addresses that I would provide.  We hope to get the list to update - sorting with most-voted-for up top.  Not sure how a coder would work with the blockchain to do that, though.  The website doesn't actually mess with hot funds at all.

We will put out calls for nominees, and I would personally write fair summaries for each and assign the voting addresses, so the webmaster would just get data from me, almost on a daily basis for updating.  This should be a simple process for the webmaster, then.

Add typical UNO crypto info, like how to obtain UNO (exchange or wallet download) for voting, etc., and some UNO promotional graphics, and that's it!!!

Easy!

Anyone interested in this opportunity to run our website?  Do you know anyone who could reliably get the job done?

Would appreciate any help, thanks.  (Not looking for funding ATM, looking for someone who really wants to participate in the project.)

Thank you!

(P.S.  'Sent a nice PM asking learminer.)
Check PMs Wink

Unfortunatelly I'll be gone for a few weeks, so I cannot help within that timeframe. After that I'm all ears though. Good luck with the awards, its an excellent idea!

If someone else with some web dev talent can step up to do the hard stuff, I can provide hosting. A wordpress installation can be setup. Or a subdomain from unobtanium.uno can be configured to point anywhere you'd like.

Cheap Bitcoin!  What an opportunity for $$>Btc>Uno

Timing is important. Today your dollars and rubles and euros buy more Uno.

My crypto stays in crypto and I have no plans to jump back to the USD ever. I can sleep better with that mindset, because I don't sweat when those bitcoin crash stories are everywhere.  I actually prefer it when Btc is falling; when Btc is rocketing I get less Uno for my dollars.

still waiting for withdrawals at cryptsy. Support is unresponsive now.

same @24hrs+

lol. They must have lost their privatekeys to their coldstorage  Tongue

Just waiting on my last few to withdraw. INteresting, I've had other website problems with them to. Pages not loading, I'm not allowed to access this or that, etc...

GOX II?

I want successful markets on all of our exchanges. I have always worked to promote all of Un's exchanges, and to helped make markets.
But it is getting more and more difficult when I can't withdraw my Uno (Cryptsy) or deposit  my Uno (MintPal).  These Cryptsy problems have been going on way too long now. They've been a wonderful exchange for Un for nearly a year, but I am growing concerned about their inability to resolve these withdrawal issues. In this Post-Gox/ Post-Coinex cryptoeconomy, I understand any paranoia.

Bittrex just keeps looking better and better.

By the way, there is Un at Allcrypt again.

@ Blue Crypto: have both a major open section and a Young Inventors.section. People always do better work on things they are more interested in. Benefactor organises Open; V500, Young Inventors.
We've already concluded it might be best if there wouldn't even be a 2nd place or 3rd place prize, just winner-take-all.  (This year)  We will just focus on a single prize, a single contest.  This will also help to reduce the webmaster workload.  Speaking of which....

Neither V500 nor I know how to run a website as webmaster.  We really, really, really need someone to volunteer to make a website for this project and update it until the award is given on October 18th.

I would be taking nominee info, summarizing it, assigning an UNO voting address, and forwarding this data to the webmaster.  The website is simple (I think).  Just the list with a summary of each nominee, the associated UNO address, and then preferably self-updating with the most-voted-for nominees up top.  I would probably feed new nominees to the webmaster almost daily.

We would start a new thread on bitcointalk, here, for the project, and nominees could be suggested on there, although don't wait - suggest away!!!  (I'm looking for 10 nominees up front to feed data to our currently-absent webmaster, and only have 1 so far.)

Please HELP to find us a webmaster who can host this project.

I'll send you a PM. Maybe we can work something out with unobtanium.uno.
