1481  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: R9 Graphics Card voltage locked/unlocked list on: January 03, 2014, 03:10:20 AM
For clarification, what do you mean voltage locked? The ones where voltage can't be changed directly by cgminer/Sapphire Trixx/MSI Afterburner or the ones that do not even support bios modding by http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/vbe7-vbios-editor-for-radeon-hd-7000-series-cards.189089/ ?
1482  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Random lockups/freezes on mining rig. 0.1 BTC bounty for a fix on: January 03, 2014, 02:43:19 AM
Part of the hardware was returned to the store (Asrock 970, CPU FX-6100 and RAM). In a week they'll report.

I've read all suggestions and I'm in the stage of trying this again. The 2nd base system is now solid (knock on wood) with a Sempron 190 and a single 7970 @ 1.06V. I will add another card tomorrow, either the 6950 or the 7870, dunno yet.

That said, I suspect that it's a combination of 2 or more problems (including what some mentioned): the PSU is not sufficient for these 3 cards + the FX-6100, the FX-6100 has problems with the chipset, the cards don't play well together, and the 7870 has crappy voltage regulators (I can't undervolt it so much or even worse, stresses the PSU)
1483  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Selling 0.1 bitcoin. on: January 02, 2014, 02:03:04 PM
What is an escrow I have never done that before.
An escrow is someone (much) more trustworthy than any of the 2 trading partners, to which you both have to send your funds before receiving. When he receives both, he keeps a small fee for his service and completes the requested trade.

If one of the trade partners intends to scam, he will never get the money because he doesn't have the advantage of sending last. If he does not hold up his part of the deal, the escrower refunds who sent, after a while.
1484  Economy / Currency exchange / [WTS] BTC for Paypal [CANCELLED] on: January 02, 2014, 08:15:46 AM
I want to sell small quantities of BTC for Paypal $US at MtGox rate, but I'm open to negotiation. I understand that Paypal is reversible, so there's the risk of me ending up without BTC and suffering Paypal chargeback. Therefore, I ONLY accept offers from reputable members with positive feedback and trade history. I'm willing to send first. Up to 0.1 BTC per person, for now.

Start by posting your offer here, please do not send pm.

Edit: Going to lock. I've read more regarding Paypal and I see further risks (including cancelling my account). I feel like an imbecile for wasting people's time. I apologize.

1486  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: R9 280x Hash rates on: January 02, 2014, 02:59:29 AM
280x's are sweet but they've been very rare to find the last month and are priced over MSRP by about $100 right now. It is much more efficient right now to buy standard R9 270's (non-x versions) then overclock them.

I have 8x standard 270's going right now running at 425-440k each. Standard 270's also only take 1x PCIE 6pin power plug as well. Cost was 179.99 per card and all of them included BF4 key tokens which were able to be sold for about $25-30 each.
What brand and settings allow 440 kh/s ?
1487  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is GPU power the single most important factor in mining for BTC? on: January 02, 2014, 02:53:03 AM
If you want to mine with GPU, its better chose to mine some scrypt coins, because you wouldn't get any money mining BTC with GPU.

And yes, the GPU is the most important factor, however there are some minimal requirements as well, which depends on how many cards you want to run.
Make sure you have enough PCI-e slot on your MB, and for a 4card setup you would need 4GB of RAM as well under ubuntu.
Don't be cheap on PSU.

Nonsense, you don't need more than 1GB of ram to run a linux miner. I have one rig with 2GB, and two with 1GB and they all hash wonderfully fast. What really matters for scrypt mining is GPU ram.
This is not accurate. When the miner software uploads code to the videocard, a large amount of ram is required. The higher the thread-concurrency the more RAM is needed, even more with some larger hand-optimized binaries out there. This is mitigated by the swap file, but considering the cost of 4GB RAM vs 2GB in the context of a $1500+ rig, it is silly to restrict someone else's machine to just 2GB even if it works for you. They may be interested in installing utility software and/or Windows 8 64bit instead

What takes the Toxics to 800 Kh/s? Low latency VRAM.
1489  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: XFX 7970 FX-797A-TDKC bios flash issues on: January 02, 2014, 02:26:01 AM
I bet this variance in hashrate amongst cards is related with the kind of RAM used and the memory timings that the bios sets. It seems that XFX cheaped out on the ram

They surely aren't a ponzi scheme.
1491  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What makes some GPUs better than others on: January 02, 2014, 02:19:33 AM
I don't remember the details but from what I've read, NVidia lacks a few (or is it just one?) particular integer instruction(s) required for speed of scrypt mining. While ATI can do that operation in a single cycle, coding the same on NVidia requires a few instructions, clock cycles and therefore results in hashrate loss.

That's evident not only on coin mining, but also on some password cracking software and other integer oriented tasks according to some benchmarks I've seen.

Due to those being sold out or with inflated prices, the Sapphire 7870 GE for 137€ and R9-290 w/Battlefield4 for 341€ are my current candidates

Could someone disprove my assertion by providing a link to sub-270€ 7970's or 280x?
There seems to be a stock shortage on the 280x, sorry, I can't disprove your assertion.

For shipping, which part of the eurozone do you want them sent to?
Yeah, it's insane. The very few that still have 280x, ask 300€ and above.

I'm from Portugal.

1494  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CPU & GPU mining question on: December 31, 2013, 08:47:33 PM
Hi, i have an i7 that i am mining quark, it says 78-80 khash x core, it has 8 so its a total of 640 khash right? i dont understand there so, i got in other pc 2 x 7870 hd that give me in total 750 800 khash mining Litecoin, is the same value? maybe is a noob question but if i mine litecoins with my i7 i will do it in 650 khash close to my dual 7870, or i will get only one core velocity that is 80khash.

Thanks
The Quark khashes/second are completely unrelated with Litecoin ones, which also have nothing to do with Bitcoin, Protoshares or Primecoins. Different algorithms present completely unrelated and arbitrary values.

You must mod and reflash the bios then

the Muslim terrorist

Learn what is "salafism", and you need to know, that a muslim must newer make nothing against any established government, they make attacks, and that is against Koran.
In this light "salafi terrorists" are not muslims, they are a totalitarian sect.

Nobody has to learn or even care about what is salafism. At this stage, after what the Quran says, after 1400 years of history of Islam and recent events, the burden is on muslims. If muslims are worried for having fingers pointing at them, then take the initiative to weaken salafism and supress terrorism

1) There are just an handful of cases where Brazil didn't respect patents.
2) Brazil does not have to respect patents derived from stolen plants inside their territory, mostly from Amazonia

In case with countries like Brazil and Botswana, the main issue is with AIDS medications. Around 1 million are HIV +ve in Brazil, while in Botswana a quarter of the population is infected. The government can't afford costly ARV medication. So they gave permission for the mass production of cheap copies.

Nothing to do with Amazonian plants here, but that occurred in some other instances.
No, 2) has to do with Amazonian plants, 1) has to do with AIDS and a few others. I never claimed that 1) and 2) are directly related
1498  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mining Equipment Experience on: December 31, 2013, 04:09:20 PM
Have at least a GPU mining rig with 4 or 5 ATI 280x, so that you don't miss the alts and most-profitable coin pools. Don't neglect the 7870 cards, they are good hashers considering the upfront cost and power use. Have a trusted friendly store to supply you with hardware parts and provide quick and flexible returns (e.g. the videocard doesnt undervolt, the PSU can't handle the load, the MB is fucked, there are lockups, etc...). I learned this at my own expense. I'm having trouble with AMD based motherboards and processors, maybe it's me, maybe not.

Invest on a powerful CPU on that rig for CPU-only coins or a budget one (a Celeron or Pentium G) and have an Amazon EC2 account or similar to mine those.

3. Medical patents are respected in the US / EU, unlike some countries such as Brazil and Botswana.
