1442  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is Auto Pool Switching really a good thing? on: January 16, 2014, 03:37:51 AM
You mean "LTC", litecoin in the OP, not BTC.

There are still some small gains to be had. Some coins take a while (hours, days) to adjust difficulty, others have a good market depth, pool operators are careful at selling, etc... That said, you have a great point and I rarely use pools that claim to mine the "most profitable coin".
1443  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best GPU for mining (and some gaming thrown in) on: January 16, 2014, 03:28:54 AM
The OP posts an almost ready PC, is crystal clear he wants a device for mining and gaming, and some ignore his doubt and start pushing ASICs and talking about power efficiency.  Roll Eyes

Sapphire or Asus 280x are the best choices imho. The ATI drivers aren't so good, throw crossfire and some games under-perform/crap out.

Thanks for giving me some info which relates to my OP.

Whats up with the ATI drivers? Not thinking of multi-gpu unless I build a mining rig
I have had games that played fine on Nvidia 8800gt and mis-behaved/crashed when upgraded the card to 2xATI 6950. Could be settings stored on Steam Cloud, could be a problem with my cards, however I don't really have a good experience with ATI on gaming.

That said, you're going for single card and recent drivers, so...

There's a lot of variation in these cards and I guess it has to do with vram speed, quality and programmed latencies on the bios. Since there isn't afaik a way to program those timings with software or bios mods, one has to handpick cards.

Please post as much info as you can from brand, model, hashrate, miner settings, voltage needed, power usage ... Thanks

Don't the 7950/280x ones work? Or you mean compiled for 32765 thread-concurrency and so on?

I've seen them more expensive than a R9-290. So, what's the point?

What the hell happened for the idiot to "sue" (lol!) dogecoin?
1454  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: WHAT! :( Butterfly Lads won't deliver the Monarch Till March or April:( on: January 14, 2014, 07:21:02 PM
How is KNC able to set a date for delivery and meet that date and BFL has never been able to be on time?
How? Perhaps E.U. companies have to deal with pesky consumer rights protection and other statist regulations.

Enjoy your "free market" over there in the U.S.

1456  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How to keep 4x 6970 cool on: January 13, 2014, 08:08:22 PM
It helps to run them as unlocked 6950's. That is, still with 1536 shaders but at 1.1V instead of 1.175V. You can still pull ~480 Kh/s out of them at core 880 and ram 1500

Thanks for everyone's help. Nothing effectively solved the problem.

At least, both the Asrock MB and the 7870 videocard are faulty. The store is sending the MB to RMA (locks up running prime95 with my and their Phenom CPU) and I'll get now an ASUS instead. Sending the 7870 card to RMA is a pain, though. I _may_ be able to stabilize it at higher voltage and use it for gaming or sell it at discount.

Alternatively if anyone knows of any site where I can purchase btc's IMMEDIATELY in a quantity of over 1.0btc instantly (no grace period), I'd be more than grateful for the suggestion!!
See if okpay.com is suitable for your needs ...
1459  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Under $150] Best AMD card for mining ? on: January 12, 2014, 09:52:59 PM
270x and 7870's are a good deal, depending on the video ram they use. Some give 450+ Kh/s, with others you'll have an hard time reaching 380

<dm> I discovered that you'd never get an answer to a problem from Linux Gurus by asking. You have to troll in order for someone to help you with a Linux problem.
<dm> For example, I didn't know how to find files by contents and the man pages were way too confusing. What did I do? I knew from experience that if I just asked, I'd be told to read the man pages even though it was too hard for me.
<dm> Instead, I did what works. Trolling. By stating that Linux sucked because it was so hard to find a file compared to Windows, I got every self-described Linux Guru around the world coming to my aid. They gave me examples after examples of different ways to do it. All this in order to prove to everyone that Linux was better.
* ion has quit IRC (Ping timeout)
<dm> brings a tear to my eye... :') so true..
<dm> So if you're starting out Linux, I advise you to use the same method as I did to get help. Start the sentence with "Linux is gay because it can't do XXX like Windows can". You will have PhDs running to tell you how to solve your problems.
<dm> this person must be a kindred spirit of mine
