What an opening statement, bitcoins used for illegal drug trading, terrorism etc etc.     Roll Eyes

I hope one of those talking to the senators highlight the thousands of cases of illegal and terrorist activities funded by US dollars over the dacades...
One is not an excuse for the other. The opening statement isn't false, regardless of the use of the US dollar.

I hope they move forward with anti-crime measures, still considering legal the virtual currencies. That would be twice victory for BTC!

My point being about the focus, not the accuracy, its easy to create a good or a bad picture based on how much of the talk is spent discussing the positive or the negative aspects, so far its fiercly pro-negative highlighting.
Yeah, I see...

The highest threat is against the US (petro-)dollar pulled out of thin air, _then_ criminal use of virtual currencies. If any doubts, ask the invaded Iraqis and the "lazy" PIIGS the consequences of bypassing or competing with the petro-dollar.

1646  Economy / Services / Re: BTCMiners "Cloud Hashing" | $8.50 USD per GH/s! on: November 18, 2013, 07:21:57 PM
I tried to order 10 Gh/s, input my email, clicked 'Next' and the website hangs...

Edit: is there _any_ way to order with fiat?

If you're still having issues, try clearing your browser cache or try to a different browser perhaps.  If it still hangs it seems that there is an issue with Coinbase as it's a script from their servers.   If you try to access it from Tor, you probably won't have any success.
It doesn't work with either Firefox or Chrome, cache cleared on Chrome. I will try tomorrow

1648  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Real Time Socialist Train Wreck (again) Happening Now in Venezuela on: November 18, 2013, 04:57:58 PM
President Nicolás Maduro ordered a military "occupation" of the company's five stores as he continues the government's crackdown on an "economic war" it says is being waged against the country, with the help of Washington.
So, this is impossible?

Is it possible the CIA is trying to destabilize Venezuela? Is it possible the CIA tried to poison Chavez and succeeded by creating his cancer? All those could be true but...

Occam's razor: when faced with competing hypotheses, select the one that makes the fewest assumptions.
Well, one could make this same argument when Kissinger ordered the replacement of Salvador Allende by Pinochet, or when Indonesia invaded East Timor. Being hard to believe, sometimes has nothing to do with the truth.

1650  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Beta] CatchCoin - Earn Bitcoins without mining (41 pages) on: November 17, 2013, 11:20:35 PM
This is actually a pretty cool collector. 41 faucets all linked up together on one site, very convenient. I suggest getting a domain and some good hosting because free hosting isn't the best (duh).
It's fine as it is.
1651  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Thread concurrency to low on Saphire 4890 Viper X 2GB on: November 17, 2013, 08:25:06 PM
Thread concurrency doesn't really matter per itself. What's important is to maximize the hashrate without hardware errors.

So what if he doesn't write proper English??? Let's assume it's more than a misunderstanding with cryptsy support; is that a justification to downplay a potential scam? Does he deserve to be screwed if he can't make his point across??

1658  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: US Regulation on: November 15, 2013, 12:46:32 PM
If bitcoin becomes centralized, there are alt-coins and there will be even better decentralized projects.  You can't "un-invent" stuff.

Regarding the US, the attack on Bitcoin is for the same reason the Euro was attacked 3 years ago, and for the same that Iraq was invaded: the petro-dollar
1659  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Decent Mining GPU for around $200 on: November 15, 2013, 10:03:10 AM
The best GPU for mining at your price point is the AMD Radeon HD7950. It has the best combination of price/hash rate/power consumption. It is also very good for gaming. If you find a "newer" R-280 for the same price, that's probably better.

There are 2 advisable tweaks: 1) undervolt; 2) download a particular modified .bin for extra hash rate.

Regarding Nvidia, they are inferior at mining either bitcoins or litecoins/alt-coins. You also get more  btc if you mine litecoins or other scrypt alts, instead of directly mining bitcoins
