1101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] cudaMiner - a new litecoin mining application [Windows/Linux] on: February 15, 2014, 04:35:01 PM
Christian, please -- and this isn't completely related with coin mining -- if you have direct contact with Nvidia and Maxwell chip has indeed an ARM CPU, tell them to add an USB interface (or supply a separate USB hub that links to the first few PCI-e pins) and allow standalone operation. No motherboard, no Intel/AMD CPUs, no 4gb system RAM, no Windows. Just plug the PSU PCI-e power pins and the card boots ARM Linux from a connect usb pendrive

I'd like to add a bit to this request.  Could we also see a parallel port added to the video card.  If i'm going to run Linux, I'm going to need to print.

Ethernet port would be logical as well, so I can connect to the internet.

Maybe a few sata ports, so I can connect storage harddrives too.  If this is going to run an OS, it should allow me the ability to have decent storage, at a decent speed.  Sata is way faster than usb, even usb3.

And lastly audio output.  Both digital and analog.
Get lost. In this thread and forum, we're not talking about "videocards" but mining devices.
1102  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: jamaican bobsled team didn't mention doge on: February 15, 2014, 04:18:32 PM
why are they wasting money on that  crap anyway.

should put all money raised into dog trust or dog charities..... who gives a turd about some jamaican crappy bobsled team?  i think you will find if the media picks up that doge coin actually raises money for animals particularly dogs a lot more people would come on board. Never underestimate animal lovers.

oh jeez you got to be kidding me lol

i see they are getting creative in trying to prop up the scam now..
not surprising i see people dumping the crap coin and leaving in larger and larger numbers and price is tanking
and its only going to get worse as mining gets harder and harder.

NONE

of you give two fucking shits about dog charities.. your greedy brats using that as an excuse to lure people
into a pyramid profit scheme and you couldn't care less about anyone at the bottom,
when you guys decide to scatter with little to no warning.. anyone who says other wise is lying through their teeth !
I have not seen 1 guy on the internet brag about helping dogs with a charity.. i hear nothing but bragging about "much profits".
don't play dumb..
+ 0.5

What kind of "charity" is that, done to generate goodwill and inflate one's holdings?

I get a few giggles out of self-interested posts that insult people's intelligence. It's a mix of being amused and feeling pity for their lack of understanding of how other people see their naiveness. But this shit is becoming so predominant that is getting to the level of spam! No wonder some want to get rid of the alt-coin section.

Edit: oh, and you're annoyed the Jamaican team didn't mention Dogecoin. I thought it was charitable and altruistic without asking for anything in return!
1103  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If rich Dogecoin miners destroy Dogecoins. Will this increase Dogecoins value? on: February 15, 2014, 04:10:14 PM
In short term perhaps, but why would they? To increase the value of yours?
1104  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why Doge coin is bad on: February 15, 2014, 04:04:40 PM

This guy is seriously delusional; he believes we are bad for the crypto-currency scene and that he's somehow the savior. In reality he's more a cancer to the crypto-currency scene than most of us here.
His elitist BS attitude is the same attitude some Bitcoin evangelist have and it's why Bitcoin isn't even really widely used as a fucking currency but more like a speculative asset in the crypto-currency world.

Seriously, 21 million Bitcoins? This is somehow supposed to be a universal currency used around the world? On a planet inhabited by 7 billion people and growing? And please don't give me the whole 8 decimal points spiel, the average Joe doesn't count to 8 decimal points; and even if they did that still means there is only 0.00300000 Bitcoins per person on this Earth, and that's all without even accounting for lots coins/wallets that can never be retrieved due to a myriad of different circumstances.

This is one of the reasons why Dogecoin has been so successful. 100 billion coins on average in total circulation...
...
Dogecoin isn't what's bad with crypto-currency; this guys shitty attitude is.
To be fair, he has more an issue with Dogecoin fans, than with the coin itself  Tongue

I love alts, but I start to have too, if fans feel the need to attack Bitcoin to defend their favourite coin. It's with Nxt, with Maxcoin, with Doge, LTC and any other. Bitcoin has it's set of problems but is the gateway between fiat and alts, and is the only I can directly use to buy stuff. If BTC goes down, all others go too (unless you consider "paper gold" safe and love to hold Zimbabwe dollars)

1109  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is it a bad idea to have a rig that doubles as a gaming computer? on: February 14, 2014, 05:42:46 PM
Yes, of course you can use a gaming rig for mining. You should use mining best practices though.

Please undervolt and move the cards as far as you can. Watch out for Gpu-z "Sensors" while mining.

You can even get more cards, long PCI-e risers with USB cabling, remove the case side or back panel and place those extra cards out of the gaming rig. With a core i7 4770k, you can also mine some CPU only coins.

Wait for the incoming R9-280's, basically rebranded 7950's.
1110  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why Doge coin is bad on: February 14, 2014, 05:34:54 PM
Yeah, Franko is much better than Doge, that is clear.

The point is that if Doge is detrimental to the crypto-currency scene, and if the Doge followers are detrimental too. If the dominant part of the Doge community is a bunch of 4chan teenagers trying to scam or ponzi other people, well, that is of course terrible.
1111  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Huh? on: February 14, 2014, 05:16:36 PM
Is this to make it easy for this "community", or is there some sort of agenda here?

Lol what agenda? It's a harmless addition which will improve the quality of life of a (small) proportion of users who feel uncomfortable having to identify as male or female.
Yes, I get it will improve individual's quality of life. When I say agenda, I'm thinking for example about the opportunist use of gays rights by the West to bash Russia and silence about gay rights in, e.g. Saudi Arabia. I'm also thinking about promotion of sexual confusion with the long term objective of population control. Also these "gay issues in the spotlight" are very clever way to give the illusion of freedom to a population.

otoh, I may be overthinking it, and it's only ... weird.
1112  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Teamviewer 9 to prove coin ownership on: February 14, 2014, 04:44:44 PM
Don't trade like this in the first place. Use escrow.

There are very reputable escrowers in this forum: JohnK, Tomatocage, SebastianJu and others

Guys, thanks for the divergent views on LTC, I must think this over.
1114  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Maxcoin doing so well? on: February 14, 2014, 04:12:53 PM
A while back I started to realise that even bad publicity is good publicity in BTC/ALTC world.

snip..

All IMO of course!  Smiley
Yes, but not everyone looks at the speculation angle. For example, the ones that see Cyprus bail-ins and IMF peregrine ideas. I rather store to LTC (which I can use to buy real stuff here and there), then on volatile and totally virtual MAX or Doge

I'm not sure about that. If I were fleeing from a fiat I would probably put 1/3 in a 'good' CPU coin (maybe like frozen), and 2/3rds in a couple of scrypt coins that have some further innovation over BTC (more than simply using scrypt). Maybe vertcoin and HoboNickels.

LTC seems to be on a downward track in the short/medium term - where are the fiat gateways, the mobile wallets and the merchant services?
BTC-e is a fiat <-> LTC gateway, I don't need a mobile wallet to store. Services, some here: http://weuselitecoins.com/, https://litecointalk.org/index.php?board=7.0

However, I'm of course open to suggestions. If there's some downhill trend as you say, it's idiotic to use LTC for storage, you're 100% correct there. But where are the fiat gateways and merchant services for those other coins you mention?
1115  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Tip: 270 "non-x" @ 490Kh/s = 0,33W / Khs on: February 14, 2014, 04:01:18 PM
OP, it's just one. For many, the higher density of 280x is convenient, so is the high shader count for non-scrypt coins. Furthermore, the R9-280 and R7-265 (rebranded 7950 and 7850) are going to be introduced.

Then, with 270's, why did you go dual-PSU? Couldn't you get a EVGA 1300W?

Either way, I don't want to distract. Great rig, congrats  Smiley
1116  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Maxcoin doing so well? on: February 14, 2014, 03:34:55 PM
A while back I started to realise that even bad publicity is good publicity in BTC/ALTC world.

DOGE got a lot of publicity as a joke coin, not to be taken seriously. - It continues to ride high.

Quark, Frozen had infamy in their roots - always get a reaction one way or another - doing well.

MaxCoin is the epitomy of a coin born in a scream of fury - I predict it will rise and rise and rise.
Believe me - I am a Max Keiser fan and I wish that weren't the case! However as a trader I now am buying in big positions.

The coins that elicit publicity and/or emotion will fly, the ones that don't won't.

The old Alt leaders that are plodding away and not pissing anyone off (LTC, FTC, PPC) will sink further.

All IMO of course!  Smiley

1117  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] 1GH.COM - MMC / PTS / MAXCOIN Pool ★ on: February 14, 2014, 03:29:40 PM
I'm mining MaxCoin with 1GH.com using Cudaminer, and I have an NVIDIA Quadro 4000 graphics card that I'm using. Oh, and I'm on a windows 7, 64 bit computer. Things seem to be working, but I want to be sure that I'm not potentially burning up my graphics card.  I have my connection string set to:

cudaminer.exe -H 1 -l F512x16 -a keccak -o stratum+tcp://maxpool.1gh.com:17333/ -u account -p password

I'm getting what I think is decent performance, I think... but not earning much in the way of maxcoins...seems to take a lot of effort just to earn tiny fractions.

The command window indicates that hashes seem to average around 28280 khash/s unless I start doing stuff on my computer, then it gets lower.  Anyway, the temperature seems stable around 77 to 78 degrees, and it is operating at the gpu stated upper limits.  I'm getting quite a few yays, and only an occasional boo.  Here is a link to a screen shot of the command window and gpu z.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1E0rFsXEmnBVDh6aWlGSVEzZk0/edit?usp=sharing

Can someone who understands this stuff tell me if I'm within a good range to maintain optimal performance while keeping my graphics card in good shape???  Or am I risking wearing it out?  Is there a more appropriate setting for my graphics card?

Also, I've been letting the program run pretty consistently all day (probably over 16 hours I think), and I've only earned 0.16 MAX.  That seems kind of low, doesn't it?Huh

Would appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks

Katherine
That card is too expensive to use for mining. It is not worth it, specially if your job depends on that professional device.

Please request assistance at the cudaminer thread, though. I'm an newbie at Nvidia mining too  Smiley: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=167229.0

If you actually love to try mining, I suggest you rent an Amazon EC2 GPU HVM spot instance Windows Server 2008
or purchase an ATI R9-270 card (or better yet, wait to evaluate the incoming R9-280 and R7-265).

Glad there is such a nice fallback coin to mine when I'm not sure where to point the rigs at. Not now, though.

1) You're right, I do not particularly give a flying shit about the alt coin community as a whole but it does not invalidate the obvious concerning 1GH.com.
To be frank, atm I only view alts as a way to get BTC without risking money in ASICs which I clearly hate. Perhaps you should consider why alts started to thrive a long time ago, before you create FUD or do whatever else you do.
