I found the wikipedia article to be very helpful.  Also check out different forums and read lots of posts to get a good idea of bitcoins, not just the technical stuff but the social things as well.
362  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blocksize growth: Extrapolation attempts on: June 10, 2015, 01:35:58 AM
I remember an interview where Gavin explains that it takes time to implement the block size change so you have to get the process started well in advance.  If you need months of lead time then you have to be more careful with calculating block size usage.  This is why he wants to push forward in stead of waiting, because if we wait then it might be too late to increase the block size by the time it is needed.

Under certain conditions, with the correct lighting setup, that bright yellow is downright excruciating Shocked Someone nursing a massive hangover would be blinded on the spot no doubt. Crazy how you don't think about such things until all the necessary ingredients align and then boom! Cheesy Anyways always nice to see new people on here, welcome and have fun!  Smiley

The trick to reading this and post like it is highlight all of it.  When you highlight it on my system it turns to blue around letters and white letters.  This makes it much more readable.   No matter what colors are used I can use this and see.

But welcome OP to community.  In future you might pick one color and go with it entire post Smiley .  As far as where to make yourself more active I say it depends on what part of Bitcoin you enjoy.

Ha!  This is exactly what I did, highlighted the text.

Welcome to the forums!  Just relax and have a look around.  I was lurking here reading stuff for a long time before I even posted anything.  Just know that some people tend to be mean to noobs, but just ignore them.  Mostly the community here is great.  You won't get hoodwinked if you don't let yourself.  Don't give anyone any money, whether it is an investment, website, or trade on the forums without making sure the other party is legit.  For trades you can simply use an escrow.  They are cheap, good, and a great way to not get ripped off.
364  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Advertising Networks on: June 10, 2015, 01:25:45 AM
If you use adsense make sure you read the rules because they are pretty limiting.  Most likely you will break the rules and try not to get caught.  But just be prepared to replace the ads with something else in case you lose adsense.
365  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: regarding bitcoin affiliate program on: June 10, 2015, 01:23:07 AM
Like they say it depends a lot on the campaign.  My sig is a campaign that I get paid a little bit for, but also it is a ref link too.  So I am supposed to get a little bit if someone clicks on it and plays at the site.  Pretty good deal if you ask me, I will post anyway so why not make some spare change?  I have not been doing this campaign for very long, and so far I didn't earn any money from refs.  But you never know I guess.

I know it isn't exactly what you are looking for but here is a thread summarizing the current ad campaigns.  Sometimes it is a little slow to update so make sure you read the thread for the program you want.
366  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is my bitcoin address? on: June 10, 2015, 01:17:35 AM
Best practice is to create a new receiving address EACH time you receive a payment.  This way you avoid creating long transaction chains and can remain more anonymous.
A hundred times this! Each payment you receive should be on a new address.
What is the advantage of changing address for each payment (multi-signature) compared to a single address?  Undecided

If you have too many linked transactions then it is easy for a would be thief or hacker to target you.  This is a disadvantage of bitcoin.  Anonymity is not just for crooks and tax evaders, it is for everyone.  You wouldn't walk around with a sign on your back advertising how much money is in your pocket would you?  I think for most of us it is not a big deal because we don't have that  much in bitcoins.  However if you have some, even a few k worth of fiat, then it is advisable to switch your address regularly.

Also if you want to dissociate yourself with an address you can use a mixing service.  Its not just for crooks!  I have never used a mixer, and I have heard that some can be scammers so read up on them before you decide.

I think that you are confusing multi-sig and simply changing your address for your wallet.  I believe that electrum does this automatically unless you tell it not to.
367  Economy / Gambling / Re: Any good slots to recommend? I have one to share you guys on: June 08, 2015, 08:28:20 PM
I like the jewels and gems game on 777.  The gem shop is really fun, especially because you get to choose from different bonuses.
368  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: PROMO 200% in 2stages. At each stage, participants receive 140% of total earning on: June 08, 2015, 08:22:49 PM
Unless there is some way of actually generating profits, there is no way this can last long term.  If you are just relying on deposits from other users then it is a straight up ponzi.  This means that sooner or later deposits will dry up and it will fail.  This is inevitable.

If this particular ponzi has a magic formula that somehow changes math then let us know.  Anything is possible.
369  Other / Off-topic / Re: Creepy way of dying on: June 08, 2015, 08:19:06 PM
Crazy.

I think that flesh eating bacteria, ebola, and parasitic brain worms are also very creepy ways to die.
370  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which series is better? on: June 08, 2015, 08:17:59 PM
I have not even seen Better call Saul, but the show looks interesting.  I really like that character so if it is well written it could be a really good show.

And why not compare the two, it is possible that someone might prefer one over the other.
371  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: questions about mining software on: June 08, 2015, 08:14:58 PM
The most important thing with mining is your cost of electricity.  Mine is ~.15 so it would be really hard to make a profit.  Yours may be cheaper, in which case you can think about home mining.  Try going with a pool, I believe nowadays this is the best way to earn with your own equipment.
372  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Experience with cloud mining on: June 08, 2015, 08:12:06 PM
Cloudmining companies are either a ponzi scheme or are never going to ROI. Even though some of the companies may appear to be trusted, they still hold on to your money and can run at anytime. Just like what ANTminer did.

Wait, do you mean Bitmain's cloud mining service or a different one.  I never heard of Bitmain ripping of anyone, so please explain if you can.  Thanks!
373  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Instant Bitcoin by offers. No minimum ever. on: June 08, 2015, 05:12:50 AM
Hi IDK if this is still under construction, but I have one suggestion and one comment:

1. Up there someone said that they had to DL something.  If DL is required, then people won't join.  Its just that simple.  Paranioa is a way of life here in bitcoinland, and most of us will not download anything.

2.  I have tired different sites like this in the past.  I always have had a problem with conversion.  I am convinced that this is intentional.  Either offers are pointlessly vague, or outright scams.  Once I took a survey, and 90% of the way through I got a message saying "sorry but you do not qualify for this survey."  WTF!  They should have determined this at the beginning of the survey!  I think that some of these offers are straight up scams.  If you want your site to be successful you need some way to vet the offers and eliminate the ones that are scams or at least unreliable.  This would make your customers happy I think.  I don't go to these sites anymore, not even as a hobby.  The conversion rate is so low that it is basically a waste of time.  However I think there is a great demand for this type of service, so if you can make your website GOOD then you stand to be very successful.

Good luck!
374  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: S5 vs S7 on: June 08, 2015, 04:42:27 AM
There is no release date yet for the s7, but I would wait to pull the trigger anyway.  I think your best bet, depending on your electricity cost, is to look into undervolt s3.  That might be better than s5, but if your electricity is not too expensive then maybe the s5 is better.  best of luck, I hope oyu make some money Wink
375  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Blocksize & Pools on: June 08, 2015, 04:32:22 AM
I think we should keep in mind that the fork will not be forced.  If there is a 50/50 split, or a 30/70, or whatever, then nothing happens, the fork does not happen, there is not created an alt coin.  Only when 90 or 95% (I forget the exact number sorry) consensus is reached, then there is the fork.  Even if a full 10% use the old stuff, they will be left out in the cold.  Problem solved.
376  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Will the Stealth BIP (Bitcoin Improvement Proposal) ever be done? on: June 08, 2015, 03:27:51 AM
So, in plain english what is the stealth bip and why should the average non-techie noob like me care? Is is a modification to make bitcoins more anonymous?  That is what it sounds like to me but I am not sure.

As I understand it in a basic way, the Stealth Address will help mitigate the problem of address reuse, though this may be an oversimplification of what it does.
(One socially meaningful function that people could really appreciate right away is that stealth addresses would likely make a straightforward and guilt-free way for a organization (non-profit for example) to post such an address to receive donations, as they would not then be revealing a bunch of information about the donors [and others in the network] every time someone donates to the organization.)

Why should you care?  Essentially it's from a privacy angle, as that address reuse is done then this conveys information about you and others in the network.  One could measure the extent to which you may be compromising privacy of others in the network based on your actions but without getting into that here, suffice it to say, address reuse isn't that great for the privacy of the network, and if wallets had support for stealth addresses, and if people had the ability to choose to use stealth or not to use it, depending upon their preferences of course, then that would be a good thing.

It's actually not what I would call "anonymity" because the use of Stealth as described wouldn't result in anonymity per se (IMHO).  I believe it would actually result in enhanced privacy.    From the original paper by Peter Todd, "The txin's owned by the payor are not revealed to the payee. In fact, they could be held by a third-party who simply makes a transaction with the appropriate txouts on behalf of the payee. (...) Less information about the txouts is leaked."  I don't consider such developments anonymous actually, but it's a pretty good privacy scheme.  Here's what I believe to be the first ever successful stealth transaction:
https://blockchain.info/tx/63e75e43de21b73d7eb0220ce44dcfa5fc7717a8decebb254b31ef13047fa518
Notice that there are things you can see about it.  It's certainly not fully anonymous, from my perspective.

OK, the final part of your question was, BIP.  What is the stealth BIP?  That's the Bitcoin Improvement Proposal.  Stealth has been suggested to be made as a Bitcoin Improvement Proposal so that this would have support in bitcoin / core.  The process lays out ideas that would help improvements happen and the developers vet them.  There's a 'readme' that covers that here:
https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/README.mediawiki

Respect,

ABISprotocol

I just wanted to say thanks for this summary.  I am sure that many people will read this.  It is clear and concise, and readable by people that are not computer programmers.  Thank you for taking the time to write it darling!  Kiss
377  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mechanical Turk + Signature campaign? on: June 07, 2015, 11:49:55 PM
I doubt it.  It is unlikely that some random person who is willing to work for pennies an hour would have enough depth of knowledge to make on topic and constructive posts in this forum.  If you tried this it would be a fast way to get the mods attention, and also that of the campaign manager.  Neither one wants spam posts on these forums and people don't want to read it either.  So please refrain from using mechanical turk.  It is for your own good  Kiss
378  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: XMLGold Bitcoin to PayPal Exchange on: June 07, 2015, 11:46:26 PM
i exchanged bitcoin->paypal multiple times over the last few weeks but yesterady i wanted to exchange again and had to notice that there is no paypal option on your website anymore.

Today i checked again but still, no paypal, will that change in the future?

Regards

Paypal isn't usually accepted for bitcoins because of the possibility of charge backs.  Probably only exchanges that you register with and give them all your information would take cc and paypal to buy bitcoins with.
379  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin price stability !! on: June 07, 2015, 11:43:45 PM
Bitcoin price can only be described as wildly volatile.  Actually in my experience all cryptos pretty much are volatile.  The reason is that there is an awful lot of speculation and short term trading in the market.  This isn't exactly a bad thing as bots and traders provide liquidity.  It is bad however when they cause wild swings in price.  Bitcoins need to be stable in price before they are wildly adopted as a currency.  until then they are just another investment like gold or bonds.
From the long run it is not good for the ecosystem of crytp currencies. Ppl tend to speculate on the wild swings in price and get quick profits. IMO we need long term investors to support the buildup of bitcoin infrastructure and need loyal bitcoiners to spread bitcoin ideas to increase the adoption rate. If there is no average users and business, who buy up bitcoins, what is the point of liquidity on the market? Can you remember the situation in the end of 2013? Many speculators are flocking to bitocin then suddenly bitcoin bubble burst!

Actually I agree with you.  I think first businesses need to start accepting bitcoin payments, and then their suppliers.  But yes none of this will happen until these wild price swings tamp down a bit.
