421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Increase block size or increase fees? on: June 02, 2015, 11:48:38 PM
Increase block size.  This is what I voted for and I think it is the best solution.  If anyone can think of an idea that is better and/or easier I urge you to start a thread so we can discuss it.  This is a great and talented community and I would not be surprised if someone came up with a good alternative.
422  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Flood attack 0.00000001 BC on: June 02, 2015, 11:43:54 PM
Thanks elux this thread is great.  You can also go look at Gavins recent posts and I think you can see that he is not an ego maniac like some suggested, but actually a pretty levelheaded guy.
423  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: On consensus principle on: June 02, 2015, 11:13:12 PM
Um, I am sorry but I am not 100% sure what OP is trying to say.  But the problem is that the 1mb limit is quickly being met and will soon be surpassed.  Something needs to be done about it.  Gavin's idea is the best solution right now and will prevent pain down the road.  You are correct in that if there is not consensus then it will not be implemented.  But SOMETHING needs to be done or it will be trouble.

Edit:  No there will not be two chains, there will not be double coins, there will not be an alt coin.  All of this is just fud and misinformation being spread around the forums.  If you read up and care to understand the issue you will see it is really not as frightening as it first seems.
424  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BREAKING: Satoshi Loyalists Upgrade to Bitcoin XT Before Deadline on: June 02, 2015, 11:08:23 PM
There is no decision making mechanism in the current bitcoin core devs group, thus the chaos

In fact bitcoin is centralized around its protocol, the protocol is very centralized, there is no freedom in selecting different parameters of the protocol, that's the only thing that all the bitcoiners agree upon. So the protocol should be highly centralized around those basic promises like limited total coin supply, shrinking block reward and block reward incentivized mining

But block size limit clearly showed that even a small disagree on one of the parameters of the protocol can make it split, so it is better to let the rules written into stone and no one would be able to change it in future (So that we don't run into these political fight again and again in future)

Satoshi said the block size limit can be lifted when needed, but even raise it to 20MB will not be a permanent solution, a permanent solution will be either totally removing the hard cap (soft cap can still be set by miners) or set the cap by a dynamic formula. A genius formula will be the real solution but that requires huge wisdom, maybe Satoshi will throw in a formula some day

That is the holygrail of bitcoin.

I agree that the obvious solution is a sliding scale for the block size.  You think it would be easy because they already do this with the difficulty.  However I know little of math and I am sure that it is more challenging than it seems to the layperson.
425  Economy / Services / Re: ★☆★ 777Coin Signature & Personal MSG Campaign ★☆★ Newb to Hero [RE-OPEN] on: June 02, 2015, 10:54:03 PM
Great!  Thank you!  Also I don't know if you saw I upgraded to full member.  I know the pay is the same, it is just a reminder Wink
426  Economy / Services / Re: ★☆★ 777Coin Signature & Personal MSG Campaign ★☆★ Newb to Hero [RE-OPEN] on: June 02, 2015, 03:31:20 PM
Oh good, it isn't just me then?  I was wondering where the payout was.  The spreadsheet looks like it has not been updated.  Hopefully everything is ok, and the campaign manager is ok.  Lets be patient for a few days before we start jumping to conclusions.
427  Economy / Speculation / Re: Big picture.. on: June 01, 2015, 11:23:55 PM
I'm slowly getting worried that even though BTC will perform very well this year it will not be because bitcoin is so awesome and its opponents suddenly start to see the light but instead because some large scale shit will happen that brings down the conventional markets. When bad things start to happen they will happen all at once. Yes your bitcoins will be worth millions of dollars but at what cost? at what cost?

The markets should go into bear territory later this year when interest rates rise.  However for a crash to happen you need a catalyst like a major war or other political event, or for a major company to fail.  It is not inevitable.  I hope it doesn't happen even though it might benefit me in some ways.  Lots of people will get hurt in the process.

The bitcoin price is dropping fast right now.  I think it is because of the 20mb feud.  People who don't understand what is going on think that the sky is falling and pull all of their money out.  This is fine for me because i am patient and I love a chance to buy low.  When this thing is resolved expect the price to shoot back up.
428  Economy / Speculation / Re: Block Halving in 2016 - Boon or Bane for BTC price ?? on: June 01, 2015, 11:10:33 PM
But due to the new hardfork we will have 2!! versions of Bitcoin, which means that block halving gets evaporated and is meaningless (only if Bitcoin is still alive until 2016)!  Huh Sad

This is nonsense.  Please listen to this interview with Gavin in this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1075510.0

Block halving:  I think this will make the price go up but not to the moon.  It may be a catalyst for higher prices but by itself I don't anticipate it having a huge impact.  What would be nice for the price of bitcoin is if we stop the 20mb fud, which I believe is the cause of the recent price dip.  When that is resolved or everyone figures out what is really going on I expect to see a bounce.
429  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to get free bitcoin? on: June 01, 2015, 07:01:54 PM
show your boobs

Believe it or not this isn't a bad idea.  There is a service like this available listed on the forums Cheesy  But like others said the best thing to do is get some sort of job.  Playing faucets is a waste of time.  You would be better off doing almost anything else.  What skills do you have?  Surely you can offer something to this community.  Can you make art?  Programming?  Maybe you can hand carve wooden bit coins to sell as a novelty?  Go check out the market section and see what others are doing there to make money.  I bet you can do something too.  Also look in to escrow if you plan to sell anything.  Until you build up a reputation as trusted you will need an escrow.

Good luck, and make some coin!
430  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ross Ulbricht is liable for value of fake identifications worth over $1M? on: June 01, 2015, 06:06:36 AM
Lawyers have a bunch of goofy formulas that they pull more or less out of thin air.  For example once the record industry tried to sue Limewire for more money than the Global GDP.  Who knows where they come up with this stuff?  I don't think it even has to have a basis in reality.  It only has to be a number that the lawyers think they can convince the Judge with.
431  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Blockstream the reason why 4 core developer won´t increase the blocksize? on: June 01, 2015, 06:02:07 AM
I found this earlier:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1075510.0

It is in the press release section.  It is a thread about an interview with Gavin and he talks about the 20mb size and other related things.  I think everyone should listen to this it might help to put things into perspective.
432  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another High Transaction Fee Again(about 25BTC) on: June 01, 2015, 05:57:36 AM
This seems like another mistake CMIIW, I think the user meant to send 25 BTC with 0.001259 fee and instead of doing that he/she entered different values in amount/fee fields.

Don't know what client they use I tried sending a transaction the other day using electrum and I entered a bit high fee trying to get it confirmed fast but electrum gave me a warning before pushing it out.

I sincerely hope that it was not a mistake of that magnitude.  This is a good reason to lock up your ledger in a vault before you start drinking.  Otherwise if it was a real transaction fee that is a really strange number.
433  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-05-30] Audio: Let's Talk Bitcoin! #217 The Bitcoin Block Size Discussion on: June 01, 2015, 02:28:39 AM
This is a great listen, and very timely.  I wonder if a MOD can move this thread to the main bitcoin forum?  The reason is that not as many people come in here to look at these things, but everyone needs to listen to this.  I think this would eliminate 90% of the FUD threads if people actually listen to it.

And to the host:  get a de-esser please!
434  Other / Meta / Re: Is bitcointalk.org slow for everyone or is it just me? on: June 01, 2015, 12:22:51 AM
Yep, it was working great for a few days here as well.  Today it has been really slow off and on.  I wonder what is going on behind the scenes?  These slowdowns kinda make me paranoid, I hope everything is ok.
435  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: buying btc with Credit Card? on: June 01, 2015, 12:21:05 AM
You might look down just a little.  Someone asked this a day ago - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1074240.0

Fee's will be expensive.  I highly suggest using a checking account to buy from an exchange.  You can even open up a new checking account just for BTC and keep small amount of money in it so no worrying.

I found the cheapest for transfer from a banking account to be coinbase.  There might be cheaper but I wasn't able to find anyone reputable.  I wanted to use a credit card as well but the fees were astronomical so I chose the slower method of transfer.  It did take a week to get my funds but at least I kept more of them then I would have otherwise.
436  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: US Government Subpoenas Bitcointalk for PMs, Affecting 600 Users on: June 01, 2015, 12:18:14 AM
This is what we get for having the patriot act.  This is big brother but no one seems to care that we no longer have our constitutional rights any more.  Obama promised an end to this crap but all we got was more of the same.  Sites like bitcointalk have very little if no power to protect themselves and their users from the government taking any information they want.  It makes me sad.
437  Economy / Gambling / Re: www.bitpoker.io on: June 01, 2015, 12:06:18 AM
it is just good that i did not deposit any coin there:

i came there, played a freeroll, all other players are dead [afk]
and when i tried to withdraw my winnings, nothing came, and support does not respond!

consider this "abandoned"

Plus it seems odd that they can give sign up bonuses, offer no transaction fees, and no rake.  How are they supposed to make any money?  I am not saying this was/is a scam but I would certainly be careful with these things.  If it sounds too good to be true it usually is.
438  Economy / Gambling / Re: 5:55 LOTTO • Guaranteed ฿10+ JACKPOT • Daily Drawings @ 5:55 UTC • Provably Fair on: May 31, 2015, 11:58:29 PM
Hi this looks like a lot of fun and I like the low ticket price.  However there is absolutely no way that I will download something to play it.  I suggest you guys get that browser version going.  If you are not seeing much traffic this is likely the cause.  You might also try a sig campaign as those seem to be pretty effective at promoting various services.
439  Economy / Gambling / Re: Dark Knights of Poker Promotion $25.00 Free!!! on: May 31, 2015, 11:54:47 PM
Don't mean to change the topic of this post but I looked everywhere for how to add an avatar to my profile. Am I missing something? Can someone tell me how and where I do this?

Thanks

Hi there is a forum for questions like this : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=39.0

You should post these things in there in the future.  To answer your question, you need to be a full member or above to have an avatar.  There are other benefits to higher ranks, and you can find all about them in the noobie forum link I posted.

Welcome to the forums and have fun Wink
440  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You have a choice if you control pre-fork bitcoins! on: May 31, 2015, 08:40:07 PM
I am not entirely sure but I don't think that is how it will work.  From what I understand it will not double the coins in existence and the average user doesn't have to to anything or vote on a side.  You should read around a little more.  The more I read about this the less scary it becomes.
